Research on the Consistency between the New Era College Entrance Examination Evaluation System and Career Planning Education

This paper systematically analyzes the relevant characteristics of career development theory and the core functions, assessment content, and requirements of the college entrance examination evaluation guided by the “China College Entrance Examination Evaluation System” in the context of educational evaluation reform in the new era. It discusses the implementation of career planning education in high school to meet the basic goal of "student-oriented" in the current education evaluation reform, which helps to form a college entrance examination evaluation system of "categorized examination, comprehensive evaluation, and diversified admission". Through investigation and research, it summarizes the policy support and practical situation of implementing career planning education for high school students across the country. Ultimately, it suggests approaches to highlight the principle of "integrated development with dual wings" and to foster students' "meta-competence" in order to enhance career planning education at the high school level.

Career Adapt-Abilities Scale: Reliability Generalization Meta-Analysis.

The concept of career adaptability emerged from the broader field of career development theory and has received increasing attention in the past two decades. To measure career adaptability, there are different scale development studies in the literature, but the most widely used and preferred one is the Career Adapt-abilities Scale developed by Savickas and Porfeli. Therefore, in the present study, the general reliability of the Career Adapt-abilities Scale was measured through meta-analysis. One hundred forty nine study (N = 82519) were included in the analyses. For the CAAS overall score, the average reliability coefficient among the 171 reliability estimations was high. However, reliability estimates in the studies included in the research show high heterogeneity. As a result of the moderator analysis, it was concluded that reliability estimates of these scores differ by item level, culture, language, category of items, different forms of CAAS, age, and SD. Regarding the application of the CAAS in research, the consequences of these findings are discussed in light of the relevant literature.

“We Try to Build Relationships”: The Role of School Community and Belonging on Career Preparedness

High school graduation and successful entry into post-secondary education or the workforce has been a priority for educational policymakers, career development scholars, and educators for decades. Consensual qualitative research methods were used to analyze 11 education professionals working in high schools with high free and reduced lunch rates and were graduating students at a rate above the national average. Analysis of the data identified three domains: (a) School Climate (b) Community Impact and Involvement and, (c) Societal, Systemic, and Logistical Factors as being supportive of college and career readiness. Within domains were seven categories further describing specific factors perceived to be related to student post-secondary success. Limitations, future research directions, and implications for career development theory, practice, and practice will be discussed.

Career‐related parental support and learning engagement: Exploring the mediation pathways of career adaptability and life meaning

AbstractParents greatly affect youth's vocational and educational development. The objective of the study was to investigate how parental support in career development affects adolescents’ learning engagement and the mediating effects of four career adaptability aspects and life meaning. The participants were 516 high school students from Guangdong, China. The study found that: (1) Career‐related parental support had a positive impact on learning engagement; (2) career confidence and life meaning acted as mediators connecting career‐related parental support with learning engagement; and (3) there was a chain mediation path among career‐related parental support, career concern, control, and confidence, life meaning, and learning engagement. Our findings add to the prevailing literature by confirming and extending self‐determination theory as well as career development and systems theory. Based on these findings, we hope that schools and parents may implement some interventions to promote the academic engagement of students.

The Career Trajectories and Outcomes in Substance Use Recovery: A Scoping Review

This scoping review provides a comprehensive overview of the reported trajectories and outcomes of individuals in recovery from substance use disorders (SUDs). Database searches of PsycINFO, Medline, and ERIC were conducted, resulting in 33 relevant studies. Thematic analysis was used to identify the themes that emerged in the literature. The key themes that emerged from the studies fell under two main categories: trajectories (the role of work, characteristics of working in recovery, and education and aspirations) and outcomes (employment status and long-term recovery and career success). The results of this scoping review offer several suggestions for the career trajectories and outcomes implicated in substance use recovery and career development concepts and theory applicable to the needs of this population; this also includes the need to continuously support clients who are in recovery with their career development.

Linguistic profiling and career development through the lived experience of service sector employees in Pakistan

PurposeUnderstanding linguistic profiling and its substantial consequences on employee career development is essential in diverse workplaces. This study utilizes Levinson’s eras and career development theories to analyze the complicated relationship between linguistic profiling and biases, which hamper employee career development.Design/methodology/approachThis study used an interpretive methodology and conducted thematic data analysis. It documented lessons learned from diverse viewpoints through semi-structured interviews with 19 participants conducted in November and December 2022.FindingsThe study demonstrates that linguistic discrimination occurs in diverse workplaces. After data exploration, four intriguing themes appeared. The first theme was related to employees who were discriminated against because of various languages. This shows how often language choice affects employees. The second theme examined how linguistic profiling intersected with marginalized groups, increasing discrimination. The third theme, linguistic profiling and career development showed that bias had a huge influence on career progression. The fourth theme emphasizes organizational policies for preventing language discrimination, promoting career growth and inclusive organizations.Originality/valueThis study advances the understanding of linguistic profiling and career development in a multilingual society. In addition, it furthers discourse and provides ways to minimize biases, creating a more inclusive workplace environment.

A Phenomenological Exploration of Individual and University Supports Affecting U.S. International Students’ Job Searches

The present study explores the individual and university supports of U.S. international students during their job searches. Twenty-eight international students (93% Asian, 7% African; 57% female) from a U.S. Midwest public university participated in one-on-one semi-structured interviews in Spring 2021 regarding their U.S. job search experiences. All 28 participants (64% graduate students) were within one year of their graduation date. A transcendental phenomenological approach was employed to conduct a thematic analysis. Lower-order themes that significantly contributed to international students’ successful job searches in the US were organized into individual and institutional-level supports and collated into six key themes: (a) early planning for post-graduation; (b) networking; (c) in-demand majors and degree levels; (d) university-industry connections; (e) personalized department support; and (f) campus career services. Based on these findings, several implications for career development research, theory, and practice are discussed.

Analyzing the Application of the Theory of Career Selection and Development according to Tom Holland to Students

Career guidance is one aspect of developmental guidance, so it is very necessary throughout a child's development. According to Holland, a very basic important element is that choosing and adapting a career is a reflection of a person's personality. One's career choice will represent an expansion of one's personality and an attempt to implement a broad range of personal behavioral styles within the context of one's work life. The subjects in this research were students in class IX-3 with a total of 30 students. The data collection technique used to analyze the data was by distributing questionnaires over a number of sheets of paper and analyzing them again using a Google Form review and the percentage results are then managed to find problems. This research uses primary data sources, the data analysis technique used is qualitative data analysis . So research results were found which showed that some students at the school did not have interest and talent in investigative and conventional environmental models. So that there is no suitability for applying Tom Holland's theory among students, which means that the problem is found in the field of learning, namely learning difficulties in understanding regular number calculations as well as well-organized language and the intellectual domain which influences the personality in determining the next career direction. because it is difficult to be an individual who is systematic and structured and has good and thorough planning. What role a counselor can play in providing career guidance services really depends on the focus of the career guidance/counseling they are dealing with.

The Effects of Demographic Factors on Professional Career Success: An Investigation of Higher Education Staff in South Africa

Professional career success has received great attention in the organisational management literature since the 1980s as organisations strive to attract and retain top talent, understanding the factors that contribute to career success has become imperative. Since it is an important topic for individuals, organisations and researchers, there have been efforts to comprehend the organisational elements and people-related factors that contribute to employees' professional career success. Located within the career development theory, this study aims to understand the sociodemographic aspects of academics that contribute to favourable perceptions of professional career success. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire on 253 male and female academics and the data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, namely the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The results of the empirical survey revealed that there were practical significant differences among academics concerning their job classification, professional experience, and their perceptions of their career as successful. Nonetheless, the findings reported no statistically significant differences among gender and age of academics and their perception of successful professional careers. Additionally, the results showed that job classification and professional experience of academics were significant predictors of professional career success since individuals with higher job classifications often have more autonomy and decision-making power within their organisations and departments. Individuals with more professional experience may have a better understanding of their industry and are required to comply with its requirements. These findings may enrich career success theories and offer developmental recommendations to support academics’ professional career success in higher education institutions in South Africa.

Career Development Dynamics and Expectations of Singing Students Receiving Vocational Music Education

This study examines the factors that affect the career development of vocal music students, as well as their expectations, experiences and challenges. The aim of the study is to reveal the factors that influence the students’ choice of vocal music as a major, their career planning and development processes, their personal and professional goals, their university experiences and how they cope with the difficulties in vocational education. The study group consists of 12 students who receive vocal music education in different regions, degrees, universities and faculties, and this way, the general patterns related to the subject are determined. The study is conducted with a qualitative method and a case study design. Data obtained from unstructured observation, unstructured interview, document analysis and semi-structured interviews are handled from the perspectives of Super’s career development theory and Bandura’s social cognitive theory. The analyses are carried out with Maxqda qualitative data analysis software. As a result of the analysis, themes are created under the headings of career planning, career development and goals, personal goals, university experience and coping with professional difficulties. The results of the study are expected to contribute to the determination of students’ career expectations, the organization of teaching strategies and the foresights to be created for the development of guidance and counseling activities.

Analyzing Student Career Development at State Middle School 35 Medan Based on Life Span Theory, Super Theory

The research was conducted to analyze and determine the career development of students at SMP Negeri 35 Medan based on the Life Span Theory and super Theory. Here, the research subjects were 30 students at SMP Negeri 35 Medan. This research uses primary data sources, which are obtained directly by researchers. This research uses a questionnaire method, so the data source is students at SMP Negeri 35 Medan. Data is analyzed quantitatively, which is systematic scientific research on parts and phenomena and the causality of their relationships. Quantitative research aims to develop and use mathematical models, theories, and/or hypotheses related to a phenomenon. From the results of the research that has been carried out, it is clear that the students who are the research subjects can be seen from the results of the questionnaire answers given to this question. In the twelfth question, whether you are confident and easily mix with others. There were 33.3% who answered Yes and 66.7% answered No. A problem found among students was a lack of self-confidence. This is related to self-concept with the theory of career selection and development according to the Life Span Theory and super Theory regarding (child and adolescent development). So that self-concept is a part and description of the whole self, it can be concluded that a lack of self-confidence can affect an individual's self-concept later.

Research on Strategies for Improving the Employability of Chinese College Students

This dissertation aims to discuss the strategies to improve the employability of Chinese college students and put forward corresponding countermeasure suggestions. Through theoretical analysis, the thesis firstly analyzes the current challenges facing college students' employment, including factors such as fierce social competition and diversified career demands. Subsequently, through the comprehensive use of relevant psychology, pedagogy, career development theory and other disciplinary theories, the importance of college students' career planning is discussed in depth, and strategies to improve college students' employability are comprehensively elaborated. Finally, this paper puts forward a series of feasible countermeasures, including strengthening career planning education, expanding internship and practice opportunities, and establishing a diversified employment service platform, etc., with a view to providing theoretical support and practical guidance for improving the employability of college students.

Assessing subjective career success: the role of career commitment, career resilience and self-efficacy: a evidence from hospitality industry

PurposeThis study aims to examine how career commitment (CC) affects hospitality employees perceived subjective career success (SCS) using a serial mediation system that uses career resilience (CR) behaviour and self-efficacy (SE) as serial mediators.Design/methodology/approachTo examine the proposed relationships, a comprehensive theoretical serial mediation model was constructed. The proposed hypotheses were tested on a sample of 316 hospitality employees from India using regression analysis (Process Macro Model 6) with 5,000 bootstrapping at 95% confidence interval.FindingsThe regression analysis confirmed a strong, positive relationship between CC and SCS. It also highlighted a significant indirect effect, involving a serial mediation through CR and SE, demonstrating how CC influences SCS.Research limitations/implicationsDrawing from three prominent theories – career self-determination theory (CSDT), career construction theory (CCT) and the contextual action theory of career development (CATCD), this research underscores the importance of fostering career-committed behaviour among employees and advocating for strategic career development initiatives. Understanding CC elements may help firms retain and encourage individuals, which can boost job satisfaction and performance. Importantly, the results advocate for the implementation of targeted career development strategies and the promotion of career-committed behaviour within hospitality organisations. This, in turn, fosters resilience and competence, ultimately contributing to individual career success and organisational excellence.Originality/valueA serial mediation model with CR and SE introduces a fresh perspective that, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, has not been extensively explored in previous research examining the relationship between CC and SCS.

Influences on Career Development for Gifted Adolescent Girls in Selective Academic Programs in Australia

Despite adolescent girls’ superior school achievement and high career aspirations, fewer women than men achieve career eminence. Understanding early influences on the development of gifted girls’ career-related values and aspirations may help to explain this discrepancy in career outcomes. This article reports findings from a qualitative, cross-sectional study of influences on career development for 18 girls in eighth, 10th, and 12th grades in selective entry high school programs in three Australian schools. Data from two rounds of interviews were analyzed thematically in relation to the career development theories of Gottfredson and Savickas. Findings highlighted the interrelated influence on career values, goals, and choices of (a) perceived personal traits, strengths, and interests, and (b) relationships and experiences grounded in home, school, and community contexts. Key findings are discussed for research and educational practice related to supporting career development in gifted girls.

On the other hand, with the continuous increase in the number of employed people in society, the expansion of enrollment in colleges and universities, and the rise of higher vocational colleges. Competition for employment among graduates from various institutions is also becoming increasingly fierce. This has also made the employment issue of technical school students gradually become one of the hot issues that has attracted social attention. Technical schools are the main form of technical education. Its sustainable development depends mainly on the employment status of students. As the saying goes, "Employment is the greatest livelihood of the people." The employment issue of technical school students not only concerns the students and their families but also affects the Chinese technological and economic development and social stability. It has both theoretical and practical significance to research issues related to students' employment in technical schools, timely discover the deficiencies in student employment and propose practical and effective solutions. The employment situation of students in any education system is a significant issue related to education and society. There are few studies on career choice in the secondary vocational education system. Therefore, this article first sorts out and analyzes the research background and significance of the selected topic and relevant domestic and foreign research. A questionnaire was designed based on career development theory. The current situation of graduates' employment choices was investigated through questionnaire collection. Use correlation analysis to analyze existing problems and the reasons behind them. Analyze the factors that influence the employment choices of secondary vocational graduates. Focus on analyzing the current situation of employability of secondary vocational students. And explore ways and methods to improve the employment choices and employability of secondary vocational graduates.

2022 개정 교육과정에 따른 실과 교과서 개발 방향 - 진로교육을 중심으로-

This study aimed to formulate plans for developing career education content and textbooks for
 elementary school Practical Arts programs, aligning with the 2022 curriculum revisions. The research
 methods employed included literature reviews and expert reviews from the field.
 The key findings of this study are as follows. First, the study underscores the significance of
 elementary school career education, given that this phase corresponds to a crucial period of
 intensive career development according to career development theory. It was emphasized that the
 2015 school career education goals and achievement standards need to be revised and supplemented
 to align with the revised 2022 curriculum. Second, despite the broader scope of career education
 introduced in the 2022 revised curriculum, including the concept of ‘career linkage education’, there
 was an overall reduction in the presence of career education within the Practical Arts Education
 curriculum. Nonetheless, evidence of content related to career education was identified across various
 areas within Practical Arts Education. This indicated the potential for developing textbooks that
 integrate career education concepts. Third, the study proposed that the structure of the career
 education component in Practical Arts textbooks, according to the 2022 curriculum revisions, should
 include an independent unit focused on career education as the first unit of the 6th grade.
 Furthermore, the entire Practical Arts textbook should be transformed into a career education
 convergence textbook incorporating career education. The objective is to reconfigure Practical Arts
 textbooks to emphasize life and career education. To this end, the study presented specific
 alternatives and provided practical and scholarly recommendations for implementation.

Introducing Sources of Self-efficacy and Dysfunctional Career Beliefs in Socio-cognitive Career Theory in Entrepreneurship

A missing link between entrepreneurship education and career choices is how and when alumni decide to behave entrepreneurially. This question pertains to the impact of entrepreneurship education as envisaged in various educational policies. The vast majority of relevant studies have examined the concepts of entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention across courses and audiences worldwide. A recent trend adopts more systematic career development theories as the social cognitive career theory (SCCT). In this line, the present article provides new insights in SCCT models including the construct of dysfunctional career beliefs that represents an essential element in career decision-making. The article presents a small-scale quantitative research through a sample of Greek adults aimed to examine the relations between entrepreneurial intention and dysfunctional career beliefs as well as the informational sources of self-efficacy representing fundamental premises of SCCT. The pilot findings show that “significant others”, a dimension of dysfunctional career beliefs, influence the entrepreneurial career decision process as an extraneous personal parameter. Linear multiple regression analysis demonstrated that positive emotions, mastery experiences and the perceptions regarding significant others’ influence in career decision-making significantly predicted entrepreneurial intention. It is also shown that influence from significant others moderates the relationship between positive emotions and entrepreneurial intention, that is, intensifying the previous relationship when influence of significant others is low and decreasing it when this influence is high. These findings are discussed in the context of entrepreneurial career decision making with implications to educational and career counselling practices.

Reflections on the Construction of Career Development and Planning System for Counselors in Private Universities in the New Era

Abstract This paper aims to conduct a systematic study on the career development and planning system of counselors in private colleges and universities in the new era. This study analyzes counselors’ cognition of career development with the help of Schober’s career development theory, analyzes counselors’ career planning through career choice theory, explores the influencing factors of college counselors’ careers based on the division of career development stages, and analyzes the degree of influence of different factors on counselors’ career development based on the ecological position model. When counselors make career planning, their factors are the most important, which are 4.5%, 9.06%, 22.46%, and 32.48%, higher than school factors, social factors, family factors, and role orientation, respectively. In terms of the degree of influence, the promotion policy and management system of private colleges and universities have the greatest influence on the career development of counselors, followed by the professional background and subjective will of counselors. Counselors in private colleges and universities should strengthen their career autonomy, improve planning techniques and methods to turn passivity into initiative and win career development opportunities, prepare career growth manuals, and strengthen career planning awareness.

‘Zero Gravity’: Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Professional Intentions and Career Pathway Vision of Sport Management Students

The pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has transformed the professional landscape and people’s career expectations. Especially among students, who now face new challenges not foreseen when they started their studies before the pandemic. Nevertheless, to date, there are no specific studies that examine in depth how the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have reshaped the professional expectations of future sport managers. To address this research gap, the main purpose of the study is to explore how COVID-19 pandemic has affected the professional intentions and career plans of sport management students. To this end, we share the visions collected in written essays, that a group of 90 students from the Paris Saclay University (France) have concerning their professional future and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on it. The essays were qualitatively analyzed based on the self-concept theory of career development through the person–environment perspective. The findings suggest that the COVID-19 outbreak influenced sport management students’ self-concept, their future workplace and employment time choice planning, and overall, their vision and intention for their career path. Accordingly, sports management educators, educational institutions, and policymakers need to ensure that sport management curricula and teaching practices address the new demands of the sports industry prompted by the pandemic, together with the expectations and educational needs of the sport management students.
