Correlation between background education, willingness to invest into new technology, and success factors of heavy-duty transportation: crane rental business in Samut Sakhon, Thailand

This research aims to observe and analyze Correlation between Background Education, Willingness to invest into New Technology, and Success Factors of Heavy-Duty Transportation: Crane Rental Business in Samut Sakhon. This research applies the quantitative research method, purposive sampling, the data was collected using reviewed questionnaire. The questionnaire dived into 3 parts: Demographic of the business operators, business background information and perception of the business operators toward future investment. Data collected from 120 crane rental business owner, or management team with least five years-experience in crane renal business. All educational background is positively related. There is no significant correlation between background education and year in business, size of the business and total employee. There is significant correlation between year in business, size of the business and total employee. The respondents agree to invest of all aspect in business. There is significant positive correlation between willingness to invest on human resources management and year in business. There is significant positive correlation between willingness to invest on management technology and total employee.

Career Preferences of Bangladeshi Public University Business Students

Planning a career can be defined as a sequence of processes that build up a career. Choosing the right career is essential for business graduates, especially in this competitive age. This study aims to identify the career preferences of business background students of Public Universities in Bangladesh and the factors that influence their career choice, which will help the business policy maker. Both the structured and the semi-structured questions containing pre-coded and open-ended questions were used to development of the questionnaire. Likert scale and multiple-choice were also used in the questionnaire. For this study, we have 97 respondents as our sample size. We have done frequency analysis, ratio analysis, percentages, and means to reach our objective. The result shows that most business students prefer Government/Public sector jobs, especially Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS). Teaching is the second choicest profession for graduates. The key factors influencing career choice are authority and power, social recognition, job security, mental satisfaction, and payment. The most common constraints graduates face when choosing a career are a lack of practical education, subject-specialized jobs, practical education systems, unfair hiring process, and experience needed at an entry-level position. However, the findings of our study will help both students and policy maker about career-related issues. Furthermore, the in-depth extracted policies are recommended to bring more insight into the matter.

The entrepreneurial mindset and self-employment intention of high school learners: The moderating role of family business ownership

Entrepreneurship, through successful business venturing, plays a pivotal role in a nation’s endeavor to create jobs and boost the economy. The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) reports state that South Africa’s early stage total entrepreneurial activity (TEA) is lower than most countries that are at comparable levels of development. Therefore, the entrepreneurial mindset of high school learners and its influence on self-employment intention were assessed in this study. Also, the moderating effect of family business ownership on the relationship was measured. The data collected from 320 learners in randomly selected 10 high schools in Gauteng were analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. The study finds that the level of an entrepreneurial mindset is above average, which provides the potential for a higher total entrepreneurial activity (TEA) in the future. Both entrepreneurial skills and entrepreneurial traits significantly influence self-employment intention, while learners’ family business background moderates the relationship. The study establishes the entrepreneurial mindset level of high school students in a country with one of the lowest TEA in the world, South Africa, where (possibly) the latest entrepreneurial mindset measure, the Entrepreneurial Mindset Profile (EMP) instrument is used. Also, it’s unique in testing the role of family business background in intensifying the entrepreneurial mindset toward self-employment intention. Therefore, the Department of Basic Education should aim to tap into the existing desire in high school learners and develop a curriculum that integrates theoretical and experiential learning. It is expected that this intervention will improve the future TEA of the country.

Entrepreneurial Intention Among University Students: Does Family Background Matter? A Narrative Review

This paper explores the influence of family business background on the entrepreneurial intention of university students and how it affects their career choice. Entrepreneurial education has limited success in promoting entrepreneurial activities among the educated youth prompting academicians to look at avenues to ameliorate it. Though family business background has been regarded as an influencing factor in recent empirical studies, it has received modest attention. Besides, conflicting views have emerged. This paper therefore reviews literature on the influence of family business in entrepreneurship and the implications it may have in planning effective future entrepreneurial activities. 34 original articles from Scopus, Google Scholar and Science Direct databases were reviewed. Findings revealed that family business plays a key role by enhancing the students' knowledge, skills, confidence, and attitude towards entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurial education too was found to be more effective on students from a family business background. Policymakers and curriculum designers need to consider the family background of students to make optimum use of available resources and ensure greater entrepreneurial ventures in future. This paper also discusses on the gaps in existing knowledge and directions for future study.

Choosing a coach: the influence of age, gender and experience in shaping preferences for business coaches

ABSTRACT The present study examined people’s preference for an executive coach. A sample of 504 participants completed a questionnaire in which they were asked to rate eight potential coaches stratified by sex (male vs. female), age (under 40 vs. over 50 years), as a proxy for experience, and background experience (business vs. psychology). There was a significant main effect of gender, with female coaches being preferred over male coaches; effect of experience, with less experienced coaches being preferred over those with more experience; and background, with those from a business background being preferred over those with a psychology background. There were more important interaction effects, particularly around the sex of the coach. These results are discussed in relation to the extant literature on preferences for different types of professionals. Implications and limitations are noted.

Policy on Forest Land Use Change for Oil Palm Plantations in Lamandau Regency, Central Kalimantan Province, Indonesia

The conversion of forest functions has often occurred in Indonesia with the background of regional development, tourism and plantation business. The various impacts of this forest conversion can be categorized into environmental impacts, namely hydrology, erosion and sedimentation, fires, extinction of flora and fauna, and impacts on the socio-economic community around the forest. The aim of this research is to analyze the policy of forest conversion into oil palm plantations in Lamandau Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. The research was conducted using the socio-legal method with a qualitative approach which is expected to find hidden meanings behind the objects and subjects to be studied. The data in this study were obtained through observation, interviews, document interpretation (text), and personal experience. The results showed that the policy of the Lamandau Regency Regional Regulation was in accordance with the Forestry Law No. 41 of 1999 Article 48 paragraph (5). The policy is to ensure the best possible forest protection. To ensure sustainability, communities with their local wisdom are involved in forest protection efforts through the provision of assistance, services, technical assistance, education, training and socialization about forest management processes. As suggestions, State Forest Company in Lamandau Regency is expected to increase socialization to palm oil companies and communities around the Lamandau forest area regarding policies related to forest protection. For forest village communities, in order to maintain the sustainability of production forests in Lamandau Regency, they are expected to be more concerned about natural resources in production forests.

The 1-2-3 of Market Research for Business Startups: A Case Study in Library Instruction

This article describes a practical way to teach student entrepreneurs to search and use market data for business startup plans. The conventional way of teaching students to find articles and business intelligence based on a class assignment can be challenging for many students without an academic business background. This library instruction approach sequentially uses three databases enriched with business data and infographics to support the development of critical thinking for student entrepreneurs. It teaches entrepreneurial personality support, analysis, visualization, and market mapping.

Research on the Teaching Reform of “Inter- Professional Comprehensive Training” Based on the BOPPPS Model under the Background of New Business

With the development of new technologies such as the Internet, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and big data, new business models and new industrial forms have emerged. The demand for talents is also rapidly increasing across industries. This also puts forward new requirements for the cultivation of business talents and the reform of business teaching mode. “Inter-professional comprehensive training” is a highly applied course. By simulating real job content, business process, business documents, etc., students’ job skills, professional quality, business decision-making ability and innovation ability are cultivated. This paper analyzes the development of inter-professional comprehensive training in Z school, analyzes its existing problems, and proposes, among other things, targeted teaching reform suggestions, so as to provide reference for schools that carry out relevant courses.

THE BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGIES: DO WE REALLY KNOW WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT?

The purpose of this study is to give insights into individuals’ perceptions of blockchain technologies (BCT). A model is constructed to explore drivers of BCT use and tested empirically using structural equation modeling (SEM) to survey data. Data is collected from a sample of 300 working individuals with engineering and business backgrounds and a multi-item questionnaire is used. Results indicated that reputation affects attitude towards BCT through perceived usefulness and perceived risk and intention to do transactions via BCT can be explained by attitude towards BCT. Intention to use BCT was quite high among the respondents and interestingly their educational backgrounds did not have any effect.

Collaborative Online International Learning Classes to Enhance Co-Creation in Canada and Japan

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) globally accelerated distance learning. Students who wish to create new businesses pursue collaborative learning in a cross-cultural environment. However, the research on the effect of collaborative learning on such courses is scant. This study investigated the changes in students’ entrepreneurial competencies and cross-cultural knowledge, skills, and abilities before and after participating in an online global career course and the differences between students from three Canadian universities and a Japanese university in collaborative online international learning (COIL). Survey data were collected from June to August 2021, before and after the course, from 33 participants. The questionnaire survey was based on the five main categories of knowledge, problem-solving skills, communication skills, cross-cultural understanding and teamwork skills, and confidence and motivation. The results revealed statistically significant differences in all the categories before and after the course. Considering the effect sizes, all five categories except for confidence and motivation improved following the course, showing that both the individual and the collaborative learning in the course design worked well in the COIL approach. Although most of the students lacked a business background, they could understand the basic frameworks for business planning through self-study in the asynchronous sessions and considered the tasks and solutions in the synchronous collaboration stage. Furthermore, the students from the Canadian universities performed well in all five categories and the students from the Japanese university performed well in four categories. Considering the budget and accessibility, students’ learning outcomes in COIL have a positive effect on their understanding of global careers.

Consumer behaviour analysis in social network using Big Data

In present, the social network plays a vital role in every person of the society irrespective of age, community, gender, business background etc… At present, 3.4 billion to 3.6 billion people were connected through social networks, and also there will be an increase in the number of around 4.50 billion by 2025. This massive usage of social media platforms paves the way to many E-Commerce companies to promote their growth by targeting the customers according to their needs. But it is not easy for the companies to reach their respective customers as they want to analyze huge data that were generated in a social network of different age groups and backgrounds. To analyze these huge volumes of data, Big Data comes into the role which handles both the structured and unstructured data. An algorithm is needed to implement on these data that analyses and classifies the consumer based on their behavior that satisfies their needs. To provide an optimal solution to this problem two mechanisms are applied in this paper.

Exploring kin and family support to young firms in Ethiopia

PurposeThis study aims to compare the outcome of support extended by the family and kin for new firms. The authors specially consider business performance, challenges, demography and personality traits of entrepreneurs.Design/methodology/approachA structured questionnaire was used to collect responses on the socio-demography aspects of the entrepreneur, family, kin, business performance, personality traits and perceived challenges were collected from 350 young entrepreneurs of South Wollo province of Ethiopia. The ANOVA test for continuous variables and the Krukal–Walis test for nominal variables were conducted to find differences across eight groups with family and kin, their occupation (business/non-business) and extended support (yes/no).FindingsOnly 40% of entrepreneurs reported support, non-business families support entrepreneurial effort more compared to business families. Support is associated with perceived business performance and sociocultural challenges, but not with revenue. Entrepreneurs with less age, education and prior experience received more support compared to others. Entrepreneurs with higher need-for-achievement traits reported less support. Interestingly, entrepreneurs from business backgrounds are likely to perform better, with or without support.Research limitations/implicationsThe extension of support to entrepreneurship depends on socioeconomic, demography, or personality-related factors and their interactions. The study did not investigate support from peers, an extended network, or the nature of support.Social implicationsFamily and kin support influences entrepreneurial persistence, overcoming the sociocultural challenges and arresting quit intention among entrepreneurs at the initial stages of a venture.Originality/valueThe influence of immediate family or a network represents extremes, overlooking the role of kin. This study fills this gap and extends understanding of the role of kin in the context of Ethiopian young entrepreneurs.

Political leaders with professional background in business and climate outcomes

The literature on how the ideology of political parties in power correlates with climate policy outcomes is abundant, but there is no similar literature for the individual characteristics of government leaders. This assessment is the first study of its kind, building on a dataset of government leaders of OECD countries for the period 1992–2017. We find that national presidents or prime ministers with a professional background in business are strongly correlated with bad climate mitigation outcomes. In particular, higher emissions and lower renewable energy deployment are more likely to occur during the tenure of former business people. Our results suggest that voters and pressure groups should pay attention to candidates’ professional backgrounds, in addition to their party’s ideology.

Business intention of students with family business and entrepreneurial education background

The study aimed to examine the effect of family business background and entrepreneurial education background on the business intention of the fourth-year students. To deepen the understanding of the topic and to establish the theories of the study, literature was reviewed. It used a descriptive correlational research design. The population of the study was the fourth-year students and total enumeration was applied. The results of the study indicate that family business and entrepreneurial education background are correlated significantly with the business intention of the students. It further found that students who have a family business background and entrepreneurial education background have higher business intention compared to those who have no both.
