Mitigation of Collaborative Blackhole Attack using TRACEROUTE mechanism with Enhancement in AODV Routing Protocol

MANET is multi-hop network in which collection of mobile nodes is self configurable and co-operates together for communicating data without the need of any centralized component for management. Due to this dynamic nature of topology and infrastructure less frame in MANET, these nodes have to rely on each other for data transmission in multi-hop fashion and thus are prone to packet drop attacks like Blackhole attack, CoOperative Blackhole attack, etc and various types of data security attacks. In this paper, Solutions are proposed to detect Collaborative co-operative Blackhole attack in MANET. We introduced the mechanism of TRACEROUTE that helps in detecting the source of collaborative Blackhole attack and thus break the collaboration by eliminating and marking source of Collaboration between those malicious nodes. AODV routing protocol is enhanced by introducing new field that helps in finding the optimal, secure and reliable routes. These Solutions are compared with W-AODV for Packet Delivery Ratio, Control load, accuracy in Blackhole detection and accuracy in Blackhole detection.

A Novel Approach for Detection of Single and Collaborative Black Hole Attacks in MANET

Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector Routing is an extensively accepted routing protocol for Mobile Ad hoc Network. The inadequacy of security considerations in the design of AODV makes it vulnerable to black hole attack in which, malicious nodes attract data packets and drop them instead of forwarding. Among the existing black hole detection schemes, just a few strategies detect both single and collaborative attacks and that too with much routing, storage and computational overhead. In this paper, we propose a novel strategy to detect single and collaborative black hole attacks, with reduced routing and computational overhead. The proposed D-MBH algorithm detects single and multiple black hole nodes using an additional route request with nonexistent target address, computes a threshold ADSN, creates a black hole list and invokes the proposed D-CBH algorithm. Using ADSN, black hole list and next hop information extracted from RREP, the D-CBH algorithm creates a list of collaborative black hole nodes.

A SURVEY ON PREVENTION OF BLACK HOLE ATTACK INMANET

The Mobile Ad Network is a collection of mobile nodes that can communicate with each other via wireless links without using fixed infrastructure or centralized infrastructure. Since there is no centralized infrastructure each node acts as a router as well as hosts. Manets often suffers from security breaches because of its characteristics like dynamic topology, self-configuring node etc. These types of network may be within the network or outside the network.Black hole attack is one of them. Black Hole attack is a type of attack where a node starts behaving selfishly or starts misbehaving in terms of packets. Manets adopt AODV (Ad Hoc on Demand Distance vector) routing protocol. One of the major issues in AODV is Black Hole Attack. The malicious node advertises itself as the shortest path to the destination and the source sends the data to the malicious node and then all the packets are dropped out by the malicious node. This paper provides a comprehensive research on prevention of black hole attack in Manet. A wide variety of literature in this field had been identified and reviewed.

A Cross Layer for Detection and Ignoring Black Hole Attack in MANET

MANET Mobile Ad hoc Network are evolved through various characteristics such as shared media, this property make a routing protocols vulnerable. AODV is a reactive routing where each intermediate node cooperates in the process of route discovery. In this case, the node that behaves as malicious exploit the malfunction of specified service. The black hole attack uses the sequence number that is used to select the freshest route and attract all exchanged data packets to destroy them. Many researchers have dealt with this attack and many solutions have been proposed. These solutions target the network layer only. In this paper, we present our approach to counter black hole attack. This approach is entitled CrossAODV and it is based on verification and validation process. The key point of our approach is the use of the inter layer interaction between networks layer and medium access within the distributed coordination function (DCF) to efficiently detect and isolate malicious nodes. During the route discovery, the verification process uses the RTS / CTS frame that contains information about the requested path. The validation process consists of comparing the routing information with the result of verification phase. Our Approach have been implemented, simulated and compared to two related studies using the well know NS2 Simulator. The obtained results show the efficacy our proposal in term of packet delivery with a neglected additional delay. Algorithm to Detect and Overcome the Black Hole Attack in MANETs

In Mobile ad-hoc network to resolve security or any other issue, broadcasting is the common factor in networking. MANETs is very new concept and gives us to very different direction to the internet and when we use it, it will become reduce the cost of both the network i.e. with infrastructure and infrastructure less networks. Mobile Ad-hoc network not need backbone infrastructure support and easy to detect in wireless ad-hoc network is very reliable and also contains the routable networking environment in MANETs. In our paper, the effect of black hole attack in AODV based network is studied. The network parameters like Throughput, Packet Delivery Fraction (PDF) and Average End to End Delay are calculated with normal network (without black hole) and a network with one black hole. The performance of network parameters are compared in all the three scenarios. We proposed some scheme is able to finding string of single malicious nodes which drops all the packets.

A Secured Data Transmission Method using Enhanced Proactive Secret Sharing Scheme to Prevent Blackhole Attack in Manets- A Review

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks are the collection of Selforganizing, Independent nodes that can interact with one another by creating radio network. In multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks, the nodes not in direct range rely/dependent upon intermediate nodes to interact. For securing its limited resources or to organize Denial of Service (DoS) attack, the middle node for instance the intermediary node drops all the packets going through it instead to forward them to its Descendant. This review paper can deal with the misbehavior called Blackhole Attack which is one of the Security Attacks and occurs in the Network Layer. Nodes interact with each other without any access point. It is a Dynamic network having the capabilities of real time network. Due to mobility of nodes network is easily affected by many types of attacks. In particular Blackhole attack the it can cause packet dropping and misrouting the information from source to destination. To reduce the impact of this attack, the new approach has been proposed i.e. New Enhanced Proactive Secret Sharing Scheme (NEPSSS) to detect the Blackhole nodes and to verify the Data Authenticity, Data Confidentiality and Data Integrity. This proposed algorithm divided into two phases. The first phase is the Detection of Blackhole Attack achieved using Trust Active and Recommendation of the Nodes. In the second phase the New Proactive Secret Sharing Scheme is used to provide the data authenticity and data integrity. The simulation results shows that the proposed algorithm achieves the better packet delivery ratio, misbehavior detection efficiency, fewer packet overhead and low end to end delay than the existing schemes.

An Ad hoc network is the network with no fixed infrastructure. There is no central administrator so any node can come and move in and outside of the network in a dynamic manner. This makes it more dynamic and complex which makes it more prone to attacks. They can attack either active or passive. Some effects of malicious nodes are Denial of service, Routing table overflow, Impersonation, Energy consumption, Information disclosure etc. A black hole attack node attracts all packets by falsely claiming a fresh route to the destination node and absorbs them without forwarding them to destination. In this work the effect of Black hole and Gray Hole attack on DSR protocol has been considered. Simulation has been performed on the basis of performance parameters and effect has been analyzed using NS2 simulator.Â

A Review on some aspects of Black Hole Attack in MANET

A Mobile Ad-Hoc Network is a collection of mobile nodes that are dynamically and arbitrarily located in such a manner that the interconnections between nodes are capable of changing on continual basis. Due to security vulnerabilities of the routing protocols, wireless ad-hoc networks are unprotected to attacks of the malicious nodes. One of these attacks is the Black Hole Attack. The black hole attack is one of the well-known security threats in wireless mobile ad hoc networks. The intruders utilize the loophole to carry out their malicious behaviors because the route discovery process is necessary and inevitable. In this paper we presented a review on few aspects of Black hole attack in MANET's. We have tried to discuss about the reasons why such attacks are seen in mobile ad- hoc networks and performed an analysis on its performance and result on a few of its simulation parameters.

Simulation and Analysis of AODV and DSR Routing Protocol under Black Hole Attack

In this paper, two routing protocols (AODV and DSR) are simulated under regular operation, single and cooperative black hole attack. This work has been performed by simulator to show consequence of black hole attacks in MANET by using various graphs which are used to collect data in term of several metrics. One common method to perform most of researches in the MANET security field is to simulate and analyze the routing protocols in various scenarios. This work has been based on the implementation and experiments in the OPNET modeler version 14.5. Finally the results have been computed and compared to stumble on which protocol is least affected by these attacks.

Modified DSR protocol for detection and removal of selective black hole attack in MANET

A black hole attack in ad hoc network refers to an attack by malicious nodes, which forcibly acquires the route from a source to destination by falsely advertising shortest hop count to reach the destination node. In this paper, we present a Modified Dynamic Source Routing Protocol (MDSR) to detect and prevent selective black hole attack. Selective black hole attack is a special kind of black hole attack where malicious nodes drop the data packets selectively. We proposed an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) where the IDS nodes are set in promiscuous mode only when required, to detect the abnormal difference in the number of data packets being forwarded by a node. When any anomaly is detected, the nearby IDS node broadcast the block message, informing all nodes on the network to cooperatively isolate the malicious node from the network. The proposed technique employs Glomosim to validate the effectiveness of proposed intrusion detection system.

A Novel Approach for Detecting Black Hole Attack in MANET

The communication in Mobile Adhoc Networks play a vital role in situations like natural calamities or military operations, but due to the dynamic nature of the adhoc networks, it is very important to take care of the security issues, one of the major security issues is the detection of compromised node. The calculation of trust values on the neighboring nodes can significantly solve this problem. This paper presents the calculation of trust values based on the threshold value, if trust value of a node goes beyond the predefined threshold, it is considered to be malicious. The trust value of a node is calculated by taking average of all the trust values for the node. The proposed scheme will be able to detect and isolate the compromised node from the network.

A Cluster based Technique for Securing Routing Protocol AODV against Black-hole Attack in MANET

Mobile ad-hoc networks are prone to various security vulnerabilities because of its characteristics mainly high mobility of nodes, and no well defined architecture. Security measures are difficult to implement as there is no central administration. Several attacks on Mobile ad-hoc network have been identified so far and Black hole attack is one of them. In this paper we discuss black hole attack on Ad-hoc network and propose a solution to the hijacked node behaving as black hole node. A scenario has been considered where a node inside network has been intruded andcompromised to cause black hole attack. The proposed security solution modifies original AODV using a hierarchical based intrusion detection method to identify hijacked node and exclude the particular node from network.

SFTP: A Secure and Fault-Tolerant Paradigm against Blackhole Attack in MANET

Security issues in MANET are a challenging task nowadays. MANETs are vulnerable to passive attacks and active attacks because of a limited number of resources and lack of centralized authority. Blackhole attack is an attack in network layer which degrade the network performance by dropping the packets. In this paper, we have proposed a Secure Fault-Tolerant Paradigm (SFTP) which checks the Blackhole attack in the network. The three phases used in SFTP algorithm are designing of coverage area to find the area of coverage, Network Connection algorithm to design a fault-tolerant model and Route Discovery algorithm to discover the route and data delivery from source to destination. SFTP gives better network performance by making the network fault free.

Mitigating Black Hole attack in MANET by Extending Network Knowledge

The Optimized Link State Routing Protocol is developed for Mobile Ad Hoc Network. It operates as a table driven, proactive protocol. The core of the OLSR protocol is the selection of Multipoint Relays (MPRs), used as a flooding mechanism for distributing control traffic messages in the network, and reducing the redundancy in the flooding process. A node in an OLSR network selects its MPR set so that all two hop neighbor are reachable by the minimum number of MPR. However, if an MPR misbehaves during the execution of the protocol, the connectivity of the network is compromised. This paper introduces a new algorithm for the selection of Multipoint Relays (MPR) with additional coverage whose aims is to provide each node to selects alternative paths to reach any destination two hops away. This technique helps avoid the effect of malicious attacks and its easily to implement the corresponding algorithm.

As the previously used security systems fail to protect the MANET from insider attacks, the need for an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) becomes evi- dent. IDS based on Mobile Agents is long been used for se- curing the MANET. The prior works seem to suffer from computational overhead leading to performance. This paper proposes a mobile agent based IDS in order to reduce the overheads. The use of distributed ID consists of multiple mobile agents which assist over a large network and to make communication with each other, or with a central server that provide advanced network monitoring, incident analysis, and instant attack data. This as a whole reduces the network bandwidth usage by moving data analysis computation to the place of the intrusion data & sustains on the heterogeneous platforms.

Security Enhanced DSR protocol to prevent Black hole attacks in MANETs

The dynamic changing nature of network topology makes any node in MANET to leave and join the network at any point of time. There are many routing protocols that establish the routes between the nodes in the network. The control towards the management of the nodes in the MANET is distributed. This feature does not give assurance towards the security aspects of the network. There are many routing attacks caused due to lack of security. The routing attack addressed in this paper is the black hole attack. The Black hole attack is that where a malicious node advertises itself as it is having the optimal route to the destination. Most of the Routing protocols do not address the issues of the routing attack. This paper describes a solution strategy which will overcome the black hole attacks in MANETs. The proposed solution is that the nodes authenticate each other by issuing security certificate in digital form to all the other nodes in the network. The proposed method is to be adapted on DSR protocol .This method is capable of detecting and removing black hole nodes in the MANET.
