Two new copper(II) coordination polymers [(BIX) 2Cu 3Cl 6] n, [(BIX)-1,3-bis(benzimidazole-l-yl)methylene]benzene hereafter 1,3-BIX and 1,4-bis(benzimidazole-1-yl-methylene]benzene, hereafter 1,4-BIX] have been synthesized. Magnetic susceptibility data have been measured in the temperature range 5–300 K. These compounds exhibit slight ferromagnetic interaction with J values of +2.70 and +2.71 respectively. An extended chain structure of Cu(II) bridged by chloro anion and BIX ligand has been proposed for these complexes on the basis of variable temperature magnetic moment, FAB-mass and ESR spectroscopic studies.
