Dielectric properties of barium hydrogen phosphate (BHP)

The dielectric constant and dissipation factor of a capacitor containing BHP as a dielectric medium have been measured. Capacitance and dielectric constant ε′ show the true dielectric behavior. A plot of ε′ versus lnf shows coupling of charge carriers or a dipole with acoustic phonon. Dissipation factor exhibits two Gaussians (normal distribution) located at 413 and 453 K. The d δ/dln f is also found to be a Gaussian with ln f as a variable. A theory has been developed to explain these Gaussians.

DC and AC Conductivity of Barium Hydrogen Phosphate (BaHPO4)

D.C. conductivity of the ferroelectric BaHPO 4 is measured and is found to lie between usual conductivities of semiconductor and insulator. Its temperature dependence shows intrinsic conduetion in defwctive crystals due to H + ions. The a.c. conductivity calculated from the measured dielectric constant follows σ-ω 1.54 , a power law. Frequency of 20 kHz resolves the resistivity peak of a.c. conduction into two Gaussians. The Inσ vs f plots at different temperatures show an exponential dependence and existence of a focal point.

Vibrational Studies of Magnesium Hydrogen Phosphate‐ and Barium Hydrogen Phosphate Crystals

AbstractMagnesium hydrogen phosphate and Barium hydrogen phosphate crystals were grown in the presence of sodium meta silicate (sol‐gel method). Raman and IR spectra were measured for the above crystals. Vibrational assignments were made for both the crystals. The large shift of the stretching and bending modes of water from the free state values indicates the different hydrogen bonds strenghts present in the magnesium hydrogen phosphate crystals.

Physico-chemical characterization of BaHPO4 crystals

Characterization of the gel-grown barium hydrogen phosphate (BHP) crystals was performed by utilizing the techniques of chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction, infrared and thermal behaviour. The results show that BHP crystals had chemical composition BaHPO4 at room temperature. TG and DTA studies revealed the BHP crystals to be anhydrous at room temperature and decomposed at temperatures above 370°C and the decomposition was an endothermic process. Magnetic susceptibility measurements indicate the material to be diamagnetic.
