Virtues of Academic Exploration:

As many as 75% of college students change their major at least once during their undergraduate career (Gordon & Steele, 2015). This study examined the impact of academic major changes on bachelor’s degree attainment within six years. Using data from the 2012/17 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (n = 13,800), we found a significant increase in odds of degree attainment for students who changed their major one or more times. Accompanying our analyses and results, we offer implications for early advising and transition programming including the role of meta-majors, and consideration for student backgrounds as they seek advising and choose majors.

Farid al-Thariqah al-Qiyasiyyah fi Ta’lim Qawa’id al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah li al-Nathqin bi Ghairiha fi al-Madaris al-Islamiyyah bi Lombok

This research aimed to find out: 1) the process of applying the measurement method to learning Arabic grammar in one of the secondary schools in Lombok for the students of class X at Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie; and 2) the difficulties in applying the qiyasi method to learning Arabic grammar for students in class X at Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie. As a whole, researchers tried to find the uniqueness of the qiyasi method, while the measurement method was one applied in learning Arabic, especially in learning Arabic grammar in class X at Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman. It is not known whether the method is suitable for all students, considering that this method is more suitable for use at the upper level or university level, whereas students at Madrasa Nida’urrahman come from various educational backgrounds, including beginner-level students. This research employed a descriptive-qualitative method. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results fell into the following: 1) The process of applying the measurement method in learning Arabic grammar in class X Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie demonstrated some information. The teacher repeated the lesson from the previous week, explained certain grammar, and gave examples. Hence, with these examples, the teacher explained the rules in more detail. After it was deemed sufficient, the teacher asked students to work in questions from the book to find out the extent of their understanding of materials that had been explained. 2) The obstacles in the application of the measurement method in class X Madrasah Aliyah Nida’urrahman Bebie subsumed (a) the obstacles faced by the teacher, namely the different backgrounds of students, and environmental factors; and (b) the obstacles faced by students covering a lack of knowledge, boredom when studying, and sleepiness when studying.

Contextual factors that affect the English learning process of students in Mexico.

Learning a new language always takes a considerable amount of time, constant effort, practice and commitment. It is a process in which the learner is influenced by different aspects, such as school factors (under teacher´s control) and contextual factors (external factors that are not under teacher´s control). For this reason, talking about the challenges during the English learning process requires noticing the background of students. Through this article, different situations and problems are exposed in order to ponder about the contextual factors of the students in Mexico. It is presented the definition of contextual factors and the aspects that compose it. Afterward, an overview of general education in Mexico is presented, as well as the current English teaching situation and the low level of English in Mexican students. The relationship between the socioeconomic level and the level of English of the students is also shown. Moreover, it is address the influence of parents on the academic performance of their children. The article incorporates the changes in the perceptions of English learners through the past years and the new perspective towards the English language. This article culminates with a conclusion of the contextual factors and a reflection about the changes that could be done.

Energy justice in education sector: The impact of student demographics on elementary and secondary school energy consumption

Reducing school energy costs has become an important issue, while the energy saving should consider different school systems and student backgrounds. This study investigated the impact of student demographics on energy consumption in elementary and secondary schools and explores the difference of energy consumption in different types and levels of school systems. Data were collected from 3672 schools (including 3108 elementary and 564 secondary schools, respectively) in Ontario, Canada. The number of students whose first language is not English, the number of students who receive special education services, the number of school-aged children who live in low-income households, and student learning ability are all inversely proportional to energy consumption; student learning ability has the largest negative impact. The partial correlation between student enrollment and energy consumption has a trend of gradually increasing as the grade levels increase in Catholic elementary schools, Catholic secondary schools, and public secondary schools; however, the correlation shows a gradually decreasing trend with the increase in grade levels in public elementary schools. This study is helpful for policy-makers to clarify the energy implications of various student backgrounds and the energy consumption difference in different types and levels of school systems to facilitate their formulation of effective policies.

Implementasi Pendidikan Akhlak Santri PPT Al-Hamidiyah NW Kediri Lombok Barat NTB

Education has a very important role, even its position in religion becomes an obligation. One of the most important educational roles in human life is moral education. Moral education has always been a major problem that has plagued humanity throughout history. The objectives of this study are 1) To know the concept of the moral education program for students of PPT Al-Hamidiyah NW Kediri. 2) Knowing the implementation of the moral education of students of PPT Al-Hamidiyah NW Kediri 3) Knowing what are the obstacles encountered in implementing the moral education of students of PPT Al-Hamidiyah NW Kediri and their solutions. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. While the research location is centered on the Al-Hamidiyah Integrated Islamic Boarding School, NW Kediri, West Lombok. The results of the study are: 1) The concept of the moral education program at PPT Al-Hamidiyah NW Kediri is in the form of intra curricular and extracurricular program activities, as well as the daily activities of the students, 2) The implementation of the moral education of students at PPT Al-Hamidiyah NW Kediri is divided into three stages, namely the stages: (a) Planning (b) Implementation and (c) Evaluation (3) The obstacles encountered in implementing the santri moral education at PPT Al-Hamidiyah NW Kediri include laziness, difficulty gathering during planning meetings, limited infrastructure. sudden event invitations, diverse student backgrounds, the impact of increasingly uncontrolled technological advances, psychological factors, the lack of openness of the asatidz board in expressing their opinions during evaluation meetings, and the busy life of the pesantren leaders. The solution is to collaborate with all parties, prepare back-up asatidz, look for a khos youth for transferring students and provide punishment for rule breakers.

Implementasi Integrasi Keilmuan di UIN Salatiga

This study aims to determine the implementation of the concept of scientific integration at UIN Salatiga. The research was conducted with a qualitative method. Collecting research data through interviews and documentation studies. The research informants were the Chancellor, Deputy Chancellor I for Academic and Cooperation Affairs, Dean of the Tarbiyah Faculty, Quality Assurance Institute, Lecturers and Students. The results of the study show: (a) The Circle of Wasathiyah Knowledge's concept of scientific integration is published in the form of academic manuscript documents, (b)The strategy for implementing scientific integration at UIN Salatiga is through: learning, research and community service, (c) The curriculum at the study program level does not have specific subjects related to scientific integration, but is directly implicitly included in the implementation of learning in the classroom, and scientific integration can be seen in the lesson plans for their subjects, (d) Supporting factors: Lecturer human resources and adequate infrastructure, the concept of scientific integration is developing and the availability of science-based study programs. While the inhibiting factors: not all lecturers have sufficient insight into Scientific Integration, the backgrounds of students are diverse, there are no guidelines for implementing scientific integration at UIN Salatiga.

THE ROLE OF AKHLAK AQIDAH TEACHERS IN IMPROVING MORALS AT MTS AL-URWATUL WUTSQO JOMBANG

The purpose of this study is to describe the role of the Aqidah Akhlak teacher in improving the morals of students at MTs Al-Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang, to describe the morals of students at MTs Al-Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang, to describe the supporting and inhibiting factors for moral development at MTs Al-Urwatul Wutsqo Jombang. This type of research is qualitative research with data collection techniques using observation techniques, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis starts from data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The role of the teacher at MTs Al-urwatul wutsqo is the role of the moral creed teacher as a communicator, motivator and mentor. The communicator looks familiar to the students and the teacher. The motivator can be seen from every time the teacher always gives encouragement to do good, both ukrowi and worldly motivation in the form of praise. As a mentor, it can be seen that the teacher always reminds students, for example, if there is student misbehavior, the teacher must guide students in a good direction so that they do not deviate from Shari'a.’at-syar’adhere to Islam and motivate students not to do that again. Morals that appear are commendable morals. Examples of not exaggerating, good behavior, humble, knowledgeable, charitable, honest, true to promises, istiqamah, steadfast, courageous, patient, grateful. The supporting factors are the Madrasah environment, namely the pesantren, curriculum,. The inhibiting factors are the different backgrounds of students, the home environment of students, and the lack of awareness in students.

Cultism in Higher Institutions in River State and its Implications for Educational Development (1960-2020)

The menace of cultism has eaten deep into the Nigerian Institution of higher learning especially in Rivers State and inspite of the jail term for airing members of a cult group caught by the authorities as proscribed in the Nigerian 1999 constitution as amended. This menace is still growing and gaining more grounds in the entire higher institutions on daily basis. Cultism constitutes a major social problem to the peace and harmony that ought to exist within the academic confines of Rivers State. Admittedly the menace have attracted so much tension and concerns of major stakeholders within and outside the educational system and it negative impact affects our universities in terms of disruption of academic calendar, vandalization of school facilities, loss of lives of both innocent and actual cult members within and outside the school environs as well as raping of students. Unfortunately, it has been reported that students who are from disorganized family background that fall prey of joining cult group either in their local environment or when they gain admission into higher institution. This however, is now seen as a very big problem that need immediate solution if the aims and objectives of educating the younger generation are to be actualized. Thus, it further indicates that some factors that motivate the emergence and sustenance of secret cult in the educational system are traceable to the faculty decadence of our immediate society, the parental or student background, the educational environment etc. This study therefore offer some policy recommendations that is needed if we are ready to curtail the activities of cultism in our society and within our educational institutions in Rivers State.

Impact of Socio-Economic Background of ITI Students on their Performance in Punjab

The study showed that the performance of a student is positively related to its qualification and its parents' income.

Differences in Career Outcome Expectations of College Students by Race/Ethnicity and Gender

This study examined how U.S. college students’ career outcome expectations—what they hope to get out of their careers—vary by intended career path, racial/ethnic groups, gender, and other individual difference factors. The data were drawn from the Persistence Research in Science and Engineering (PRiSE) survey, a national study of U.S. college students enrolled in college English courses (n = 7505). An exploratory factor analysis revealed four foci of career outcome expectations, which we labeled as follows: extrinsic (rewards are external, such as money or status), work-life balance (work does not consume all of a person’s time/energy), pioneering (work is intellectually stimulating and cutting edge), and people-related (work involves working with and helping others). While controlling for career interest, our findings indicate that students’ gender and race/ethnicity influence their career outcome expectations in a wide variety of ways. Due to the differences in career outcome expectations associated with student backgrounds and demographics beyond career interest, recruiters and program directors looking to attract more diverse populations may benefit from matching the career outcomes they present and offer with those populations’ outcome expectations.

A Meta-Analysis of the Predictors of On-time High School Graduation in the United States

On-time high school graduation is an important topic in educational research, policy, and practice. However, no comprehensive meta-analyses had been conducted on this topic. The current meta-analysis reviewed 47 articles published from 1985 to April 2022 and aggregated the effect in four dimensions: student background, family support, school program and support, and school climate, with a focus on school-related practices, policies, and programs. Twelve factors along various dimensions had statistically significant positive or negative effects on on-time graduation. Implications of these findings are discussed.

‘Marrying theory and practice for successful criminology education’

Dr. István Ambrus is a renowned Hungarian researcher on compliance, digitalisation and criminal law. His research work is accompanied by his work in the field of law, so in his teaching activities he is in the position to pass on his professional experience to criminology students in addition to his theoretical knowledge. He has been appointed Head of the Department of Criminology at Faculty of Law of Eötvös Loránd University from 2022. Grounded in reality: artificial intelligence in medical education.

In a recent survey, medical students expressed eagerness to acquire competencies in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine. It is time that undergraduate medical education takes the lead in helping students develop these competencies. We propose a solution that integrates competency-driven AI instruction in medical school curriculum. We applied constructivist and backwards design principles to design online learning assignments simulating the real-world work done in the healthcare industry. Our innovative approach assumed no technical background for students, yet addressed the need for training clinicians to be ready to practice in the new digital patient care environment. This modular 4-week AI course was implemented in 2019, integrating AI with evidence-based medicine, pathology, pharmacology, tele-monitoring, quality improvement, value-based care, and patient safety. This educational innovation was tested in 2 cohorts of fourth year medical students who demonstrated an improvement in knowledge with an average quiz score of 97% and in skills with an average application assignment score of 89%. Weekly reflections revealed how students learned to transition from theory to practice of AI and how these concepts might apply to their upcoming residency training programs and future medical practice. We present an innovative product that achieves the objective of competency-based education of students regarding the role of AI in medicine. This course can be integrated in the preclinical years with a focus on foundational knowledge, vocabulary, and concepts, and in clinical years with a focus on application of core knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Analisis Regresi Multivariate Berdasarkan Latar Belakang Santri

The students of the Matholiul Anwar Islamic boarding school come from various different regions so that they have quite diverse social and economic backgrounds. Likewise with learning motivation, achievement motivation and student learning achievement are also diverse. This study aims to determine the effect of the social and economic background of students on achievement motivation, learning motivation and learning achievement. The research sample used was 49 students in the F dormitory of the Matholiul Anwar Sukodadi Lamongan Islamic boarding school. This study uses the Multivariate Regression Analysis model. From the results of the partial study, the effect of social status on the dependent variable was concluded that there was an effect of social status on achievement motivation, learning motivation and learning achievement. Meanwhile, for the variable of economic status on the dependent variable, it can be concluded that there is no effect of economic status on achievement motivation, learning motivation, and learning achievement. Simultaneously, it was obtained that the background of the students affected the achievement motivation, learning motivation, and learning achievement in the F dormitory of the Matholiul Anwar Islamic boarding school.

This research is philosophical or literature-based research that is descriptive and analytic, to generalize an effective learning environment in this case leading to Islamic religious education. The learning environment greatly influences the effectiveness of the transformation of knowledge from educators to students, because it contains adequate or inadequate facilities and infrastructure to support the learning process. In Islamic religious learning, educators must correlate and pay attention to the backgrounds of students both in cognition, affection, and the cultures possessed by students, to prevent things that are not coherent with the established national education standards, due to the differentiation of means infrastructure and the number of student ratios, of course, greatly affect the conclusions about the quality produced by students

Analisis Pembelajaran Sejarah dengan Materi Islam Untuk Meningkatkan Kesadaran Pendidikan Multikultural di SMA Negeri 11 Medan

Multicultural education is becoming increasingly important in heterogeneous societies like Indonesia. One subject that has the potential to implement multicultural education is history, particularly when studying Islamic history. Indonesia is a region with diverse cultural backgrounds, often referred to as multicultural. This diversity is also present in the field of education. This research aims to explain or analyze history lessons with Islamic content to enhance awareness of multicultural education in SMA Negeri 11 Medan, specifically considering the cultural backgrounds of students who adhere to different religions, which can potentially trigger conflicts within a multicultural community. Therefore, multicultural education is expected to serve as a foundation for prioritizing tolerance in society, especially among students in schools. This research utilizes qualitative research methods with a case study approach to analyze how multicultural education is integrated into history lessons at school. This is related to the study of history, which explores the nature and habits of humanity over time. The connection between multicultural education and history education is valuable in fostering multicultural awareness and uniting various differences, enabling peaceful and harmonious coexistence, especially among students in schools. The research findings indicate that the analysis of multicultural education in history lessons with Islamic content at SMA Negeri 11 Medan has been conducted effectively. History researchers employ various approaches and strategies that consider the diversity of students. They explore diverse Islamic historical sources and utilize methods such as discussions, group assignments, and field activities to enhance students' understanding of Islamic history. Additionally, collaborative efforts between teachers, schools, and relevant stakeholders are necessary to create an inclusive learning environment that supports the diversity of students.

English Language Education in a Vocational School: A Qualitative Case Study

The purpose of this study was to provide a comprehensive understanding of Vocational School students’ experiences of learning English at a state university in Türkiye. After the application of a pre-survey which aimed to reveal the background of the students, four students took part in an interview about their English learning experiences in Vocational School. Interviews were also conducted with two instructors to obtain information about their perspectives of the Vocational School students’ English language learning motivation and process. Observations were also carried out in the real language classrooms. In data analysis categorical aggregation is used in order to have patterns in the qualitative data. The study unearthed the challenges that the students experienced in language learning process which were insufficient English background of students, their lack of motivation to general education, disregard to English education, and feeling of inferiority accompanied with low self-esteem. Furthermore, physical problems (students who are full or part-time workers), discontinuity in curriculum and limited lesson hours were also among the problems. The study implicated that information transmission which is still prevalent in lessons should be supported with other methods of teaching, the students need consciousness raising in terms of the place of English in their work life and some improvements are needed in the English curriculum.

Using Multilevel Modelling to Evaluate Science Literacy and Technology Course of the Indonesian Non-Science Students

In this paper, a science literacy and technology course has been designed and implemented to strengthen the national initiative empowering scientifically literate Indonesian society. This paper is intended to evaluate to what degree non-science undergraduate students can perform this course. The diverse background of non-science students who participated in this study led to the challenge to evaluate their performance more comprehensively contemplating the nested structure of students’ department and faculty setting. In light of the hierarchical nature of the student data, multilevel modelling was used to conduct the analysis. The first level of analysis involved students’ performance and affective attributes measured using demonstrated science literacy assessment (SLA-D) and motivational beliefs (SLA-MB) respectively. Then, the subsequent level of analysis comprised demographic factors gathered from the institutional record. Findings demonstrated that the impact of demographic factors on the students’ performance of science literacy was not substantial. Different settings of students’ department and faculty level drove the association between affective factors and the learning process toward science literacy courses substantially. The multilevel approach controlled the equitable student assessment within the nature of students’ data structure. This paper suggests an implication of advancement regarding educational data analysis and examines the effectiveness of science literacy courses for higher institutions specifically for non-science majors.

Impact on Medical Students Participating in Forensic Examinations of Asylum Seekers: A Pilot Study

Background: Student-run asylum clinics handle an increasing proportion of forensic medical evaluation requests for asylum cases across the country, but the impact on medical students participating in these evaluations remains poorly understood. This study investigates the self-reported backgrounds, roles, and experiences of medical students who directly participated in forensic evaluations of asylum-seekers at a student-run forensic asylum clinic between 2017 and 2021.Methods: Electronic surveys were sent to 40 medical students who had completed at least one asylum evaluation through the student clinic. Survey questions asked about student background, motivations, volunteer roles, and learning experiences during the evaluation process. Frequencies were calculated for multiple choice and 10-point Likert scale responses. Reviewers independently identified themes in free-response answers. Responses were subsequently coded using a consensus theme bank.Results: Eighteen of 40 (45%) students emailed completed the survey. Seventy-eight percent of respondents reported a personal or familial history of immigration. Almost all wrote the first draft of the medical affidavit. All respondents to the question reported improvement in their confidence working with patients who had experienced physical or psychological trauma as a result of persecution or feared persecution, because of their participation in an asylum evaluation. Conclusions: Students frequently were motivated to participate in forensic examinations of asylum-seekers for personal reasons related to their immigrant backgrounds. Our findings suggest that asylum evaluations promote professional development and skills working with survivors of trauma, though there remain technical and emotional challenges that mandate adequate training and support for student volunteers.

MODEL PEMBELAJARAN KONTEKSTUAL DALAM PEMBELAJARAN KETERAMPILAN MEMBACA BAHASA ARAB

Based on the fact, many students feel bored and feel Arabic as a difficult subject. Students will learn well if they can construct their own understanding of what is learned. Because learning is an intellectual activity that can generate ideas through observation and build new knowledge. In order for students' applicable learning experiences to be stronger, learning is needed which gives students the opportunity to do, try, and experience it for themselves. So a teacher must be good at choosing the right learning model. Contextual learning models will be able to assist teachers in providing applicative experiences and abilities in student learning. So as to form students who are more active, creative and productive. CTL learning is a learning concept that assumes that learning will be more meaningful if students learn and experience what they learn for themselves, not just knowing, and aims to equip students with flexible knowledge. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods, namely research that describes existing phenomena, both natural phenomena and human engineering. The results of this research are that in its application, the teacher prepares material and methods and for the next the teacher carries out the initial learning activities and core activities as well as evaluation as the final activity.
