Research Progress and Prospect on Profile Roll Forming Methods and Equipment

Abstract: In recent years, with the development of aerospace, automotive, rolling stock, shipbuilding, military weapons and other industries, the demand for bent and rolled parts is increasing, and the requirements for roll forming accuracy are growing. With the rapid development of coal power, hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, and petrochemical industries, the design and research on roll bending machine and the profile roll forming methods have come into focus. The purpose of this study is to summarize the classification and characteristics of roll bending equipment, analyze the reasons that affect the accuracy of profile bending, and propose specific solutions. This paper summarizes the research status and patents on the existing roll bending equipment, introduces its structural characteristics, differences, and molding effects, and focuses on the difficulties, optimization, and improvement methods of roll bending molding. In this paper, the mechanical structures of the existing roll forming equipment have been analyzed and compared, the effects of different roll forming equipment on the profile bending results have been determined, and the reasons affecting the bending accuracy have been pointed out. By summarizing the patents and research on profile roll forming methods and equipment, the current situation and future research prospects of roll forming equipment are discussed. The roll forming equipment is divided into a roll bending machine, a CNC roll bending machine, and a flexible roll bending machine. Each design can meet different profile processing needs. From the design point of view, the optimization under the given processing profile can achieve relatively high processing accuracy. However, the processing of different profiles will still produce geometric defects, and there is some space for improvement in the structure of roll forming equipment, the materials of processing rollers, and the NC interactive system. Thus, further research on profile roll forming is needed in the future.

Evolution Characteristics and Influencing Factors of City Networks in China: A Case Study of Cross-Regional Automobile Enterprises

The optimization of the spatial structure of the city network is conducive to the scientific spatial distribution of industries and the promotion of coordinated regional development. This study selected the top 100 automobile enterprises in the Chinese stock market that belong to China’s pillar industry, a total of 1455 headquarters and branches, to establish an enterprise matrix. Based on the ownership linkage model, the evolution characteristics of city networks in China from 2000 to 2020 are revealed, and the influential factors of city networks are discussed using the negative binomial regression model. The findings are as follows: (1) there are significant differences in the status of automobile cities, forming a “pyramid network” hierarchy. (2) The agglomeration area of automobile cities has formed the development region of “4 + 4 + 1”. (3) The city network with hierarchical connections has formed a spatial structure of a “cross–cobweb” in the middle and “trapezoid–diamond” in the periphery. (4) Urban transportation conditions, the scientific research environment, the enterprise agglomeration economy, GDP per capita, and technological proximity positively impact the formation of a city network, but the total export–import volume has a negative impact. Overall, the government can use this study’s results to formulate policies for the automotive industry and urban development.

Prospects for the Development of Vehicle Assembly Plants of Chinese Automobile Brands in Kazakhstan: An Example of Multi-Sectoral Diversification of the Economy to Increase Its Sustainability

This article discusses the problems that arise and must be resolved in order to ensure the efficiency and sustainability of Chinese-brand automobile assembly in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is shown as a model of an oil-driven economy seeking industrial modernization and the most dynamic car assembly case in Central Asia in the past 5 years. Since the automotive industry development strategies in different countries have various specific characteristics and provide an overview of the main global and regional trends in the development of the automotive industry, the problems of industry development also leverage the accumulated experiences of different countries where government initiatives have fostered the growth of their domestic automotive industry. Although we use standard and well-proven methods of analysis, planning, and forecasting, the novelty of the approach lies in the fact that any new company entering the market and opening a new production facility should focus on maintaining the sustainability of the country’s automotive industry within the framework of the adopted industry development strategy. We have developed such an algorithm for planning a strategy. The blend of traditional methodologies and their adaptation makes the suggested methodology new. We also considered the fact that, due to a lack of knowledge, there are significant challenges when determining whether localizing automobile components is feasible. An assessment of the prospects for the automotive industry in Kazakhstan based on data from open sourcesmade it possible to develop options for possible strategies from which the most appropriate one can be selected. The conclusion chapter presents findings, limitations of the study, and directions for future research. The use of this approach allows for considering the interplay of the factors at the stage of an industry development strategy emerging and establishing long-term plans that take into account the specific characteristics of Kazakhstan’s development.

How to promote the transition of fuel vehicle enterprises under dual credit policy? An improved tripartite evolutionary game analysis with time delay

Under the context of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, new energy vehicle (NEV) is considered as ultimate objective in development of automotive industry. To facilitate sustainable growth of automotive market and ensure a smooth transition for fuel vehicle (FV) enterprises, this paper constructs a tripartite evolutionary game model based on tripartite Hoteling model, which involving NEV enterprises, FV enterprises and governments. The herd effect and time-delay effect are considered to improve the tripartite evolutionary game. Results indicate that: (1) Fund feedback to NEV enterprises will counterintuitively decrease probability of active assistance from NEV enterprises. (2) Governments’ willingness for strict involvement positively correlates with supervision costs but negatively correlates with additional benefits. (3) Time delay in funds leads to weak effect of high default penalties in promoting active assistance of NEV enterprises in early stage, but opposite situation appears in later stage. (4) Higher NEV production proportion counterintuitively stimulates FV enterprises to give up transition. (5) High rewards drive diffusion of herd effect, further increasing competition among vehicle enterprises leading to FV enterprises giving up transition. (6) Herd effect and time-delay effect increase dependence of FV enterprises on funds results in higher sensitivity of credit trading price compared to credit ratio requirement.

Analysis of the Impact of Impact of AI on the Car Industry - taking BYD Co., Ltd as an Example

The manufacturing industry is the pillar of the national economy and the foundation of national power. With the development of China’s economy and society, as well as the improvement of science and technology, the transformation and upgrading of China’s manufacturing industry is also more urgent. At present, in the field of manufacturing, artificial intelligence technology and manufacturing technology are constantly integrating, gradually forming an intelligent manufacturing base. As the core industry of China, the car industry embodies mechanisation, automation, and intelligence, and artificial intelligence is now widely applied in this industry. Representative technologies such as speech recognition and computer vision have brought intelligent and convenient experiences to the car industry and car companies themselves, improving safety, innovation, and efficiency. The current Chinese car industry has made significant progress in the application of artificial intelligence, and has made many breakthroughs in research, development, and production. This report takes BYD auto company, which has occupied a large market share in recent years, as an example. Based on previous annual financial reports and some literature in related fields, this report analyses the impact of artificial intelligence on the development of the BYD enterprise. At the same time, this report studies this company’s current application of artificial intelligence and explores the possibility of wider application of artificial intelligence in the automotive industry and enterprise development.

Powertrain structure analysis of extended range electric vehicles

Since its invention, the internal combustion engine has greatly contributed to the development of human civilization and is also an important symbol of the progress of human civilization. The energy and environmental problems brought by traditional automobiles have seriously restricted the development of today's automotive industry. Due to the bottleneck of pure electric vehicle power battery technology, its short range and short battery life, the extended range electric vehicle is a smooth transition model of the pure electric vehicle, with its high efficiency, small battery capacity, long driving range and other advantages have received widespread attention. In this paper, the key technical issues, including the component selection, parameter matching, and control strategy of the extended-range electric vehicle drive system, are analyzed and discussed in detail. Several issues worthy of attention in future research are pointed out in the paper and provide insights for further development of extended-range electric vehicles.

MODELING OF ROUGH ROTARY MILLING OF CRANKSHAFT PINS

The development of the modern automotive industry requires a quick adaptation of new production methods. This is possible thanks to software capable of simulating manufacturing processes. The paper discusses the modeling of the machining operation of a crankshaft’s crankpins for a diesel engine with the use of the planetary milling method. i.e., modeling of milling operation when a disc milling cutter, having its cutting inserts directed inwards, is performing rotary motion, and at the same time, the axis of this milling cutter circulates around the axis of a machined crankpin. For this purpose, a geometrical model of the machining of the crankshaft’s crankpin has been developed. Based on the design documentation of the crankshaft of the 4C90 type diesel engine and the documentation of the Steyr internal disc milling cutter, their CAD models have been developed, and the both models were linked together with suitable kinematic dependencies. In the next step, the crankpin having a length of 25 mm was divided by planes (in quantity lp=21) into 1.25 mm sections. On the main cutting edge of two cutting inserts of the disc milling cutter, points were marked at intersection locations with these planes. Using the Inventor 2016 system, twelve spline curves have been generated for each plane because each plane intersects 12 cutting inserts mounted in cassettes positioned around the circumference of the body of the disc milling cutter. Next, the spline curves were brought to a common coordinate system, rotating them at an angle resulting from the positioning of the cassettes with cutting inserts in the body of the disc milling cutter. Prepared in such a way, spline curves were written in dwg format, which allowed for trimming of the spline curves at the circle with a radius of rcp = 27.90 mm, corresponding to the radius of the crankpin after milling, considering grinding allowance (ø55h6 + 0.80 mm grinding allowance). As a result, it enabled to leave sections of the arcs tangential to the diameter ø55.80 mm and, in such a way, generate the outline of the shape of the crankpin using the REGION command for 21 cross-sections. The outline of the cylindricity of the crankpin was obtained using the strategy of outlines of the roundness, which were generated earlier; this strategy consisted in the collection of 360 points on the circumference of 21 mutually parallel sections cut by planes perpendicular to the axis of the crankpin. To determine the effects of the circular feed rate of the circulating move of the axis of rotation of the internal disc milling cutter on the accuracy of the machining, simulations of the shape of the crankpin were performed for three values of the feedrate: vf = 1200 mm/min; vf = 2100 mm/min and vf = 3000 mm/min. The spline curves with a determined (depending on the duration of the simulation) number of points: 3500, 2100 and 1409 were obtained for each simulation. The calculated cylindricity deviation for the feedrate vf = 1200 mm/min amounted to CYLrck = 0.2272 mm, for the feedrate vf = 2100 mm/min – CYLrck = 0.2406 mm, while for the feedrate vf = 3000 mm/min – CYLrck = 0.2929 mm.

The role of public policies in the development of the brazilian automotive industry

Since the 1950s, the Brazilian automotive sector has been supported by different public policies until the present day. Despite the importance of the Brazilian automotive industry in the national and global scene, there is no concrete empirical research that correlates with the different public policies have shaped the progress of this sector in the country. Thus, this paper aims to evaluate how the different public policies contributed to the development of the Brazilian automotive sector. To capture those impacts, it is necessary to develop a methodological approach supported by a systematic review of the literature and research some specific indicators that will allow measuring the results. The results indicate that each of the public policies contributed different mechanisms for the redefinition of local strategies for the development of products, investments in technologies and innovation and the installation of new automakers in Brazil. The main limitations of the research are a large volume of fragmented information and the results of public policies not always easily measurable and available to allow a more concrete analysis of their effectiveness or provide elements that support the reformulation of new public strategies.

Outsourcing plays an important role in the development of the Chinese automotive industry. The transfer of individual business processes to outsourcing allows you to expand the scale of production and ensure its modernization without a significant increase in costs. However, outsourcing not only improves production efficiency but also contributes to the sustainability of the automotive industry. The purpose of this article is to study the impact of outsourcing in various parts of the value chain of the automotive industry on the sustainability of its development. In addition to the traditional approach that defines three components of sustainable development (economic, social, and environmental), in this study we also analyze the technological one, which characterizes the possibilities of using innovative technologies to achieve sustainable development goals. SWOT analysis was used as a research tool. As a result of the study, the opportunities and risks of outsourcing in various parts of the value chain in the automotive industry were identified. The characteristics of environmental factors are given in terms of how they contribute to the development of outsourcing in the automotive industry. It is concluded that outsourcing in the automotive industry contributes not only to the development of the Chinese economy but also to those countries in which outsourcing work is carried out.

The types and preparation methods for bio-based materials and bio-fuels were mentioned, especially the discussion of bio-hydrogen production and its application in the automotive industry. The summary of the correlation between biomass and automobile manufacturing industry in this article has certain guiding significance for the energy industry, automobile manufacturing industry and biomass energy utilization field.

China's automotive industry: 70 years of sustainable development

Introduction (problem statement and relevance). Rapid growth of vehicle production volume has brought the automotive industry of China to the first place in the world. The vehicle production volumes account for about 27 million pieces per year. The paper addresses the history of development of the automotive industry in China. It presents factors that have caused sudden innovative development, creation of research and development basis and increase of vehicle production in the country. The paper also reviews the prospects for development of the automotive industry. Measures for development of the automotive industry within the planning and management system taken by the Government of the People's Republic of China could serve as a good example for our country for implementation of measures to reduce dependence on unfriendly countries in order to ensure its further development.The purpose of the study is to analyze approaches and cause-and-effect relations of the Chinese economy development by the example of a specific industry – the automotive industry.Methodology and research methods. This study uses analytical methods for assessment of management solutions and provides results of automotive industry development in a specific country.Scientific novelty and results. The policies and actions by the Government of China have been examined regarding automotive industry development, as well as management solutions underlying its development and proven by practical implementation of successful projects.Practical significance. By the example of China, the possibilities of implementation of import substitution programs, improvement of sanctions stability, overcoming a crisis and dependence of domestic automotive industry on foreign companies from unfriendly countries have been considered.

Proposal of a maturity model for additive manufacturing: theoretical development and case study in automotive industry

ABSTRACT Currently, organizations in the manufacturing sector are exposed to high levels of competition and constant changes in consumer requirements. To survive in an increasingly competitive environment, it is essential to adopt new technologies to ensure success in a sector that is currently going through the fourth industrial revolution, associated with Industry 4.0 (I4.0). Additive manufacturing (AM) is one of I4.0’s technologies, which can produce products layer by layer, playing a key role in the innovation of business models. In this manner, organizations must integrate AM starting by understanding their maturity level, which allows them to reflect on weaknesses and strengths as well as opportunities for improvement. However, literature is currently lacking maturity models for AM. This paper proposes a maturity model for AM, which aims to help organizations in the manufacturing sector in determining their maturity level regarding the implementation of the AM. The model developed was validated theoretically. Also, a case study was conducted on an automaker, where it was possible to conclude that, despite the analyzed company has a high level of maturity regarding the technological deployment of AM, an AM’s strategy definition is presently missing.

Chip morphology and tool wear investigation in high-speed machining of AZ61 magnesium alloys using vegetable-oil based cutting fluid

ABSTRACT Lightweight alloys play a vital role in the development of automotive, biomedical and aerospace industries as well as other industrial sectors. The current study investigates the machinability of AZ61 magnesium alloy within a vegetable-oil-based MQL environment through high-speed orthogonal cutting. A tool wear and chip morphology examination are conducted along a full factorial experimentation to allow for adequate machinability testing. The usage of Grey Relational Analysis was invoked to allow for a multi-variant optimisation of input parameters such as MQL flow rate, cutting speed, and feed based on output responses, such as chip compression ratio, chip segmentation ratio, tool-chip contact length, and shear angle as well as tool wear evolution. Through the analysis of the formulated signal-to-noise data, it was found that the optimal cutting parameters were an MQL flow rate of 80 ml/h, cutting speed of 250 m/min and feed of 0.3 mm/rev. The optimal cutting conditions resulted in a Grey Relational Grade improvement of 0.177 as compared to the referenced experimental trail. The analysis of variance further concluded that the feed was the highest contributing input parameter at 38.04% followed by the MQL flow rate and the cutting speed.

SUSTAINABLE AND RESILIENT SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT IN A VUCA-WORLD: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY TO DEVELOP A PROCESS ORIENTATED METHOD OF RISK AND TECHNICAL CHANGE MANAGEMENT IN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

AbstractRevolutionary changes of a VUCA-world are effecting more and more industries. Focusing the automotive industry, this is caused by several new trends in technology or market. This situation is requiring high flexibility and is questioning for sustainability as well as resilience in system development projects. This publication represents results out of a survey, part of a wider research. The objective is the development of a process orientated method for risk and technical change management. The survey is conducted by participants of transdisciplinary system development in automotive industry. Topics questioned are VUCA, complexity, (re-)action, quality and module interfaces of Generic Systems Engineering. The results demonstrate the participants’ experience and demands for sustainable and resilient system development projects. In conclusion, this report provides information on the considering elements to develop a process orientated method for risk and technical change management in automotive industry.

Carbon quota allocation modeling framework in the automotive industry based on repeated game theory: A case study of ten Chinese automotive enterprises

Carbon quota management system is a long-term effective mechanism to promote the sustainable development of automotive industry. However, issues such as the total amount and allocation mechanism of carbon quotas hinder countries' implementation of carbon quota policies in the automotive industry. To address these issues, this study uses the GREET model and system dynamics model to predict carbon emissions in the automotive industry and sets the total carbon quota for China's automotive industry. Furthermore, based on the ZSG-DEA model and Gini coefficient model, this study applies repeated game theory to propose a carbon quota allocation modeling framework for the automotive industry. The results show that the proposed allocation modeling framework achieves a balance between equity and efficiency while taking into account the interests of both the government and enterprises, and achieves an equitable allocation of carbon quotas among 10 representative automotive enterprises. This study can provide reference for the design of carbon quota management system in the automobile industry.

With the rapid progress of technology, the future of new energy vehicles is bright. New energy vehicles are the main direction of the transformation and development of the global automotive industry, and an important engine to promote the sustained growth of the world economy. As the world's leading manufacturer and service provider of new energy vehicles, BYD has an impressive growth prospect. In this paper, we analyze BYD Corporation's financial statement data from 2019 to 2022 and take BYD Corporation as an example. We also analyze the company's financial indicators in four aspects: operating capacity, solvency, profitability, and development capacity. We conclude with a few suggestions for improving the business financial situation of the company.

Industrial Internet of Things and Big Data Techniques for the Smart Press Shop 4.0 Development in Automotive Industry

In recent years, one of the main challenges in industry has been to obtain work parameters in real time for later analysis to understand the process better. The purpose is to obtain substantial information about the process for better decision-making and to find out what happens during manufacturing to know both the state of the equipment and the product, looking for savings in maintenance costs and quality controls among others. This has not been an exception for the automotive industry. These challenges have been associated with the concept of Industry 4.0, specifically with Big Data and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) techniques. Following this concept, many of the companies and research teams develop their algorithms and ideas based on the installation of new sensors without taking into account the implications that this proposal has in real factories. The cost of the sensor, the installation setup, maintenance, machine modifications and replication for hundreds of machines make many of the ideas fail when innovation is implemented in the companies. For that reason, in our previous work we have introduced a novel concept in Industry 4.0, the development of algorithms by using exclusively the information that is available in the equipment. Machines, as well as presses and general automated systems, include sensors for their automated normal production. These sensors are installed and the information they provide is almost free. Following this philosophy, the present paper proposes the Criterion-360 for real press shops. With this criterion, it is possible to measure a lot of variables with no cost, not only the tonnage, but also, many variables such as the press speed, Counterbalance and overload pressure, Cushion Pressure & Position, lubrication, etc., and therefore with this amount of information many possibilities arise. As the new developed system does not need new sensors and additional installation setup, it is easy and cheap to replicate it in other presses and plants.This article presents two tools that have been developed from the information obtained with this criterion, these tools are currently in operation and have been used to modify work processes and get the press to work in optimal conditions.

Aided Imaging Phase Measuring Deflectometry Based on Concave Focusing Mirror

With the rapid development of aerospace, high-speed train, and automotive industries, the demand for the measurement of high-precision specular components is increasing. The acquisition of high-precision three-dimensional (3D) data is conducive to improving the performance of and extending the service life of these components. However, the existing 3D measurement methods of specular surfaces are affected by the inherent limitation of the depth of field (DOF) of camera lenses. Based on the principle of paraxial reflection imaging of a concave mirror, this paper introduces a concave mirror into a phase measuring deflectometry (PMD) system and proposes an aided imaging PMD (AIPMD) based on a concave focusing mirror. The proposed system realizes the clear imaging of the encoded patterns and the surface under test in the DOF of the camera lens, simultaneously. Meanwhile, the iterative coefficient specular reconstruction algorithm is studied based on this system. The feasibility and accuracy of the proposed method are verified by simulations and experiments.

The straight-line stability analysis of the vehicle with the electronic stability control

BACKGROUND: At present time, branches of industry have been increasingly filled with electronics, capable of controlling different processes in order to achieve demanded paremeters values. Automotive industry, safety issues of which such as vehicle stability and handling are paid much attention, have not become an exclusion. Vehicle safety improvement is one of the areas of development of modern auto-motive industry. Manufacturers permanentally increase the number of control systems and raise the level of control on wheeled vehicle motion parameters in order to achieve the highest possible level of stability and handling. Using of various all-wheel-drive systems becomes more relevant and reasonable. Traction force distribution between all wheels improves dynamic performance indicators, makes cross-country ability better in similar road conditions and allows using algorithms, improving handling and course-keeping ability of a vehicle.
 AIMS: Determination of variation range of the control parameter in order to ensure stable straight-line motion of a vehicle with controlled transmission.
 MATERIALS AND METHODS: The two-axled vehicle, which transmission has an ability of torque distribution between front and rear axles, is considered in the article. The system of diiferential equations in terms of middle wheels side slip angles was made up in the study. The LinardChipart algebraic cri-terion was used to define variation ranges of the control parameter in order to ensure stable straight-line motion of the vehicle.
 RESULTS: The obtained variation ranges of the control parameter are included in the adjustment range of modern torque distribution mechanisms, consequently, it is possible to speak about ability to ensure stability of straight-line motion of a full-wheel-driven vehicle with currently existing mechanisms. The scientific novelty of the study lies in analytical determination of variation range of the control parameter for the case of straight-line motion of a vehicle equipped with the electronic stability control.
 CONCLUSIONS: Practical value of the study lies in establishment of ability to ensure stability of straight-line motion of a full-wheel-driven vehicle with currently existing mechanisms.

УПРАВЛЕНИЕ ПРЕДПРИЯТИЯМИ АВТОМОБИЛЬНОЙ ПРОМЫШЛЕННОСТИ: ОПЫТ РАЗВИТИЯ ГРУППЫ КОМПАНИЙ BMW И ПРЕДЛОЖЕНИЯ ПО ЕГО АДАПТАЦИИ В РОССИИ

The article addresses the issue of the peculiarities of management and development of BMW group of companies, its strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats and also development prospects. The factors that can affect the successful functioning of the BMW Group of Companies are given. The main tendencies in the automotive industry development in the world and the role of BMW in the ongoing changes are considered. According to the analyzed experience of BMW group, the authors give recommendations for improving the efficiency of management in local automotive companies and automotive industry in general.
