“HE LOVED HIS NATIVE LANGUAGE TO THE POINT OF ADORATION...ˮ (A new reading of A.N. Ostrovsky’s texts on Kostroma land: bibliography review)

For many years, Кostroma researchers, full and associate members of the educational and scientific research laboratory “Lexicology and Lexicography” currently operating at Kostroma State University, have been studying the works of A.N. Ostrovsky in linguistic terms. Russian Russian writers have worked out in sufficient detail both the problem of the folk-colloquial, including dialectal, stream in the multidimensional work of the classic of Russian literature playwright, and the problem of the playwright’s contribution to the creation of a new Russian literary language built on democratic principles and continuing the Pushkin tradition of organic fusion of book and spoken elements. The topics such as “Lexical richness of the Russian language” with subtopics are noted: vocabulary of significant and official parts of speech, productive and rare, motivated and unmotivated, free and composed of stable turns, modern and outdated, neutral and affected vocabulary, own and common, locally and stylistically colored, including vernacular, professionalism and jargonisms, native Russian and borrowed vocabulary, etc., as well as the topic “Grammatical features of the hypotaxis of texts by A.N. Ostrovsky”, etc. The genre theme of studying the language of the playwright’s works is embodied in more than a hundred scientific articles in academic publications of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, peer-reviewed scientific journals, various collections of scientific papers and materials of scientific conferences, in the creation of dictionaries, encyclopedias, monographs, dissertations. The authors of the review article also offer a bibliographic index of works on the language of A.N. Ostrovsky’s works published by Kostroma researchers in 1974–2022.

The potential for graphical abstracts to enhance science communication.

Science communication, including formats such as podcasts, news interviews, or graphical abstracts, can contribute to the acceleration of translational research by improving knowledge transfer to patient, policymaker, and practitioner communities. In particular, graphical abstracts, which are optional for articles published in Translational Behavioral Medicine as well as many other journals, are created by authors of scientific articles or by editorial staff to visually present a study's design, findings, and implications, to improve comprehension among non-academic audiences. The use of graphical abstracts in scientific journals has increased in the past 10-15 years; however, most scientists are not trained in how to develop them, which presents a challenge for creating graphical abstracts that engage the public. In this article, the authors describe graphical abstracts and offer suggestions for their construction based on the extant literature. Specifically, graphical abstracts should use a solid background, employ an easily readable font, combine visuals with words, convey only the essential study design information and 1-3 "take-home" points, have a clear organizational structure, contain restrained and accessible use of color, use single-color icons, communicate ways to access the full-text article, and include the contact information for the lead author. Authors should obtain feedback on graphical abstract drafts prior to dissemination. There is emerging research on the benefits of graphical abstracts in terms of impact and engagement; however, it will be essential for future research to determine how to optimize the design of graphical abstracts, in order to engage patient, policymaker, and practitioner communities in improving behavioral health.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AS ONE OF THE MAIN ELEMENTS OF FORMATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL LEGAL CULTURE

The article considers the importance of integrating the foundations of environmental and legal culture in society, regardless of the legal status of the individual in it. Scientific and doctrinal approaches to the concept of ecological culture are analyzed, different points of view are highlighted. The author's approach concerning the content of the term ecological culture is offered. The analysis of legislation on the issue of fixing the terms "ecological culture" and "culture", due to the lack of their legal regulation in terms of legal and ecological character is also conducted. The value of ecological and legal culture in establishment of foundations of ecological knowledge is pointed out, it is designated that it is determinative for practical realization in the sphere of ecological education, the importance of its normative-legal fixation in modern conditions is grounded. The author of article makes a conclusion about necessity of fixing of concept of ecological culture at legislative level. And also about importance of ecological knowledge as means of its formation.

Crossing boundaries between research and practitioner communities: The role of research use and cross‐community journal authorship

AbstractThis study pursued two major objectives. The first was to use bibliometric techniques to examine bidirectionality in the relationship between teachers and researchers, as indicated by collaborative authorship among these communities. The second was to explore more deeply knowledge mobilization to classrooms by documenting the extent to which research is cited in science education practitioner journals (SEPJ). Specifically, we examined: (a) the frequency of collaboration between researchers and practitioners in the writing of journal articles for both practitioner‐focused and academic journals in science education, and (b) the extent to which authors of articles in practitioner‐focused journals drew on academic research to support their advocacy for and/or description of science education programs, policies, or practices. Findings indicate that writing collaborations among academic researchers and practitioners are relatively infrequent, even on practitioner‐focused articles. Also, articles in SEPJs more often cite books and other resources over academic journals, even those academic journals focused on informing science education teaching and learning. Recommendations include providing open access to published research, development of research summaries for lay audiences, and incentivizing practitioners to engage in research and writing. This study explores only one mechanism by which knowledge can be mobilized to classrooms and only one type of dissemination product (i.e., journal articles) upon which researchers and practitioners can collaborate. Additional limitations are noted including the applicability of the findings only to the specific journals and timeframes analyzed.

Georgian-Russian Conflict and Its Influence on the Energy and Security Situation in the Black Sea – Caspian Region.

In this article author analyzes the influence of the Russian-Georgiancrisis of August 2008 on the security and energy situation in the BlackSea region. The main threats and risks due to the Russian-Georgiancrisis 2008 in the Black Sea region may be considered as activation ofthe situation in the separatist regions of Moldova and Azerbaijan, securityof the transport routes, pipelines, energy resources supply fromthe Caspian basin. For Ukraine – complication of the relations withRussian Federation, aggravation of the Black Sea Fleet status problem,possibility to use South Ossetia Scenario in the Crimea, difficulties forthe realization of the “White Stream” Project. Author also considerspositions of the third parties in particularly the EU, Turkey, Armenia,Belarus and other CIS states and how the conflict touches their interestsand relations with parties to conflict. Events of August 2008demonstrated which mechanisms the Russian Federation is ready touse to prevent post-soviet states from the Euroatlantic integration.And the same time the conflict has demonstrated how six days crisis insuch interconnected and important region as the Wider Black Sea caninfluence and impact not only on the regional players and neighborsbut on the common European security and stability.

Using mixed methods in logistics and supply chain management research: current state and future directions

PurposeMixed methods research is useful to enhance theoretical and practical research contributions. However, single methods have predominated much logistics and supply chain management (LSCM) research. This paper presents a review of mixed methods research across ten years in LSCM to determine their usage, identify benefits and inhibitors, and provide suggestions for LSCM researchers to realise the benefits from using mixed methods.Design/methodology/approachThis paper adopts a mixed methods approach through a quantitative analysis of methods used in six leading LSCM journals, an e-mail survey of mixed methods article authors during the review period, and four published case studies that used mixed methods.FindingsOnly 144 (ten percent) of all empirical articles were published using mixed methods during the review period. A range of benefits and inhibitors regarding mixed methods adoption were found. Suggestions for LSCM authors include research training in mixed methods use and developing a project-specific research design due to the specificity and complexity associated with mixed methods research.Originality/valueLSCM is at a critical juncture, shaped by new contexts, themes and challenges, and would benefit from different research approaches and methods. This paper contributes to the LSCM domain through analysing the current state, benefits and inhibitors of mixed methods research in LSCM journals to provide a renewed call to action and guidelines for mixed methods LSCM research, and suggesting research design adaptation to enable agile and resilient research when investigating rapidly changing and complex phenomena.

Authorship characteristics of hematology and oncology education chapters: A comprehensive analysis.

460 Background: Gender and geographic disparities in academic medicine, along with conflict of interest in medical education, necessitate examination for promoting equity and inclusivity in hematology and oncology education. This study presents the first analysis of authors' gender, authorship country diversity, and conflict of interest status in the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Society of Hematology (ASH) educational books. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on articles from ASCO, encompassing all volumes from 2012 up to 2022 and ASH educational books including all volumes from 2000 up to 2022. Author information was obtained from the ASCO and ASH educational book websites. Results: The analysis encompassed 2,784 articles. Females accounted for 44.2% of first authors and 37.6% of last authors in ASCO educational books, as well as 38.8% of first authors and 38.5% of last authors in ASH educational books. Among educational articles, the lowest female participation was in articles discussing colorectal cancer (26.7%), followed by global health (28.0%) and tumor biology (31.0%). The number of females first and last authors in ASCO and ASH educational articles increased significantly over time (p < 0.001). The presence of international authors in articles remained relatively stable. Among articles with international female first authors, Canada had the highest proportion (24.4%), followed by the UK (18.4%) and Italy (11.0%). Similarly, for international female last authors, Canada ranked highest (26.2%), followed by the UK (20.5%) and Italy (12.0%). Repeated authorship roles along with diversity of authorship institutions will be further investigated. Of the articles analyzed, 59.6% reported at least one author with a conflict of interest, while 26.7% reported no conflict of interest for any author. Information on conflict of interest was not provided in 13.7% of the articles. Research funding was the most common type of conflict of interest (47.7%), followed by honoraria (33.4%) and travel accommodations and expenses (15.8%). The prevalence of conflicts of interest increased slightly over time, but not significantly. Conclusions: Our study suggests that female authorship has increased significantly over time. International authorship remained stable, with Canada having the highest proportion. To build on this positive momentum, it is essential to continue our efforts in further increasing female representation, promoting transparency in conflict-of-interest reporting, and mitigating potential biases in medical education.

Formation of a professional linguistic personality (based on texts in the specialty «Earth Sciences»)

In the conditions of intensive growth of scientific and scientific-technical information, rapid changeability and updating of the system of scientific knowledge there is a need to study issues related to professional communication. Users of scientific language master its culture gradually; acquire life experience, their own knowledge, general and professional erudition of the speaker. The aim of the article is to carry out a comprehensive analysis of linguistic means and identify the features of the implementation of professional linguistic personality of a scientist, author of scientific articles on the speciality «Earth Sciences». Special attention is devoted to a brief review of theoretical provisions of domestic researchers engaged in the study of professional linguistic personality and idiostyle. Scientific novelty lies in the analysis of linguistic means characteristic of the individual style of a scientist on a new linguistic material (scientific texts on the specialty «Earth Sciences»). This approach allowed us to consider the influence of a person's professional status on the texts produced by him/her. The material for the analysis is the articles selected by the method of continuous sampling on the scientific specialty «Earth Sciences». In addition, the method used in this article was continuous sampling method, content analysis, comparative analysis. The obtained results showed that in order to build a model of professional linguistic personality of a scientist, it is necessary to conduct a comprehensive psychological and linguistic analysis of the scientist's texts at the verbal-semantic, linguistic-cognitive and pragmatic levels, highlighting the correlation and influence of ethno-cultural, socio-group and individual aspects of personality content. Despite the fact that the author of scientific articles is limited by the norms of scientific style, there are certain linguistic means that allow reflecting the author's uniqueness under the existing norms of text formation.

“Splainin” Health and Nutrition Science to a Doubtful Public

It is hardly a secret that the health, nutrition, and other science communication environment has over the past few years become ever-more problematic. The authors of the present article have repeatedly documented the challenges posed to public understanding of science by the rise of social media and other internet communication “tools” and the diminishing influence of such media as journals, legacy news organizations, and other traditional conduits of scientific information. Various remedies have been proposed for facilitating greater public appreciation and comprehension of science. In the current article, the authors offer a bold, if not surprising, new proposal: initiate or broaden public exposure to the true nature of the scientific method/process. They suggest that health and science communicators not hold back in extolling the noisy and highly contentious process by which hypotheses are explored and eventually accepted or rejected. If communicators, they argue, convince audiences of the messy, even argumentative, way in which science actually evolves, it may be easier to encourage a greater open-mindedness toward previously unpopular, even uncomprehended, dreaded, or despised, scientific ideas. The issue is of paramount importance, especially now, as keeping the public focus on science, not individual scientists, is critical.

 Malnutrition is a significant problem in Indonesia. There are several conditions that affect the nutrition of children aged under five, namely stunting, low weight, and wasting. This condition occurs as a result of nutrition that is not in accordance with the life stages of the child. This condition is very influential for the health and survival of children in the long term. The purpose of this literature review study is to prove and study more deeply the use of KIA books in the provision of MPASI to prevent stunting. The method used in searching for the author's article uses the study literature review method, a search used using a database in the form of google scholar and pubmed, with the keywords "KIA Book", "complementary feeding", "Stunting". Articles obtained for review as many as 9 articles that fit the criteria, namely 6 national articles and 3 international articles. The results of MPASI giving factors that result in stunting are maternal factors in terms of education, knowledge (type of food given, frequency and amount of MPASI given), maternal KEK history, parenting, and social environment.
 
 
 

Disturber of the peace: Touches to the portrait of A. G. Rappaport

Alexander Herbertovich Rappaport is a philosopher, architect, art historian, author of many articles and books on the theory of architecture and art history, author of the unique blog “Tower and Maze”, where he regularly publishes his reflections. A huge influence on Rappaport’s formation was his work in the Moscow Methodological Circle of Georgy Petrovich Shchedrovitsky (MMC). In 1979 he left the MMC and since the early 1980s he has been engaged in phenomenology, a direction in philosophy, the founder of which was Edmund Husserl. Most of A. G. Rappaport’s articles and books are written within the framework of phenomenology, but the school of thought that Rappaport underwent at MMK had an undeniable influence on his work. Rappaport’s works merge Shchedrovitsky’s methodology, phenomenology and poetry.

Issue 57 of the Rhetoric and Communications journal follows the traditions of publishing analyses of studies in thematic areas, in particular in rhetoric, semiotics and in new failures of communication in the 21st Century. Again, following good traditions, the journal provides a platform for both prominent and young scientists. The authors are 11, nine of them – authors of scholarly articles. A book presentation is also included. Three of the articles are in English. The nine articles are written by 10 authors, two of whom are representatives of academic institutions of Azerbaijan and one is from the University of Bucharest. The authors from Bulgaria are representatives of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts “Krastyo Sarafov” (NATFA), the University of National and World Economy, the University of Ruse “Angel Kanchev”, Shumen University “Bishop Konstantin Preslavski”. These are the proofs of the conclusion that the journal presents established scholars and researchers from different academic communities and established research units in Bulgaria. The thematic focus allows the formation of three sections. The first section “Rhetoric and Semiotics” includes two articles. Authors Azad Mammadov and Maryam Isgandarli from Azerbaijan focus in their research on the rhetorical and linguistic features of USA President Donald Trump's communication through a selection of key speeches at important forums. Miroslav Dachev announces the results of semiotic and visual analysis based on selected images from different monasteries on Theotokos iconography with an emphasis on intentional states and joy. The text is a contribution to an insufficiently researched area that implies an interdisciplinary approach and in-depth theoretical knowledge. The section “Public communication” includes three texts. Ivet Tileva presents a text that explores a topic of social sensitivity and significance, namely organ donation. The analysis is about selected institutional documents and previous studies on the topic and the aim is to establish both the communicative and economic dimensions of the issues. Maya Vasileva announces methodological and pedagogical results related to the training of students on current topics, namely communication management of facts and data, in particular on communication units and carbon footprint. Atanaska Milotinova presents the results of a study of media publications and institutional documents related to the fight for voting rights of American suffragettes and draws conclusions about the changes in public communication as a result of this activity and new techniques in public communication. The fourth section “Virtual Communication” includes four publications that present a wide range of studies. The use of Facebook during the election campaign for local elections in 2020 in Bucharest through the prism of gender elements in virtual communication was analyzed in depth in theoretical and visual terms by Elena-Irina I. Ghinet. Hristina Sokolova presents results on the communicative and sociocultural characteristics of the notion of success among digital consumers in Bulgaria, which presents opportunities for future research in this area. Diana Nikolova studies the communicative and linguistic features of computer jargon through a comparative analysis between two languages in selection and a rich corpus of data. Desislava Tomova remains in the field of virtual communication as the focus is on online platforms for financing art, or the so-called Crowdfunding. Simeon Vasilev presents the book “Toreador. Kevork Kevorkian. The Will of You Win” with a volume of almost 700 pages of the author prof. Dr. Margarita Pesheva. Тhe book is dedicated to a TV presenter and a whole era of television history in Bulgaria.

Bibliometric evaluation ofJournal ofAnalytical Toxicology as a scholarly publication according to the Web-of-Science citation database.

Soon approaching its 50th anniversary, Journal of Analytical Toxicology (JAT) is an international scholarly publication specializing in analytical and forensic aspects of toxicology. Science Citation Index (SCI) and Journal Citation Reports (JCR), both of which are part of the Web-of-Science (WOS) database, were used to make a bibliometric evaluation of JAT articles. Between 1977 (volume 1) and 2023 (volume 47), a total of n = 4,785 items were published in JAT; the top-ten most highly cited articles and the most prolific authors were identified. Changes in the journal impact factor (JIF) were studied between 1997 and 2022, and this metric varied from a low of 1.24 (2006) to a high of 3.36 (2020).The most recent JIF (2022) dropped to 2.5 and the corresponding 5 year JIF was 2.6. JAT's most highly cited article (590 cites) was a working group (SWGTOX) report dealing with standard practices for the validation of analytical methods in forensic toxicology laboratories. JAT published 62 articles each of which were cited over 100 times and the H-index for JAT was 89. The most prolific author of JAT articles was credited with 119 items, the first in 1980 (volume 4) and the latest in 2023 (volume 47). JAT articles were cited 4,537 times in 2022 by all journals in the JCR database, although 520 of these were self-citations (11.5%). Bibliometric methods are increasingly used to evaluate the published work of individual scientists, university departments, entire universities and whole countries. Highly cited articles are considered more influential and authoritative compared with papers that are seldom or never cited.

The "Logic" of the natural language functioning in the Oxford School philosophy

This article focuses on the linguistic philosophy, specifically on John Austin's theory of speech acts. This theory examines the speech acts in the situation of direct communication. The theory author divides the speech acts into three action types, and introduces terms for their designation: locutionary, illocutionary, perlocutionary acts. Austin tried to identify and classify illocutionary verbs, but he did not give a precise definition or criteria for classification; he proposed dividing all the verbs into 'classes of use', upon that, the same verb could belong to different classes. The article author analyzes the speech act theory development lines, particularly, the research of John Rogers Searle, who was a follower of J. Austin. He introduced such terms as illocutionary point, conditions of satisfaction, direction of fit. These three terms allow him to identify five varieties of speech acts: assertives, directives, commissives, expressives, declaratives. It is Searle's philosophy of language that remains popular among linguists who try to find the structural rules that create the phenomenon. The article discusses other development variants of John Austin's ideas, related to the speech communication modelling and discourse theory. The author concludes by pointing out the weaknesses of the everyday language theory.

A Credibility Crisis in Psychology?

The interest in the global result obtained by B. Nosek’s team increased significantly, not only among psychologists, after an article presenting the results of a large-scale international replication of psychological empirical research had been published in Science (cf. Open Science Collaboration, 2015). While 97% of the original research yielded statistically significant results (p <. 05), only 36% of the results were significant in the replication. The author of the present article postulates that this result laid the ground for unjustified generalizations about the methodological weaknesses of psychology as an empirical science. Psychology is an empirical science, but it also has its peculiarities due to the specificity of the subject matter and the method (e.g. Orne, 1962, 1973; Rosenthal, 1966/2009; Rosenzweig, 1933). Equally importantly, psychology is not practiced in social or cultural isolation. Finally, psychological research is bound by rigorous ethical standards/constraints, and psychologists (as well as researchers in other fields) who publish the results of empirical research to be analyzed statistically are constrained by the editorial practices of scientific journals. Journals have an interest only in papers that present statistically significant results (where “p < .05”!), which leads to the so-called file-drawer effect (Rosenthal, 1979). As strongly emphasized by the author, the debate cannot be limited to the statistical significance of psychological research (in particular the power of statistical test which has emerged as a popular trend in recent years). In this article, the author discusses (and presents his point of view) the following problems: 1) the methodological specificity of psychology as an empirical science, 2) the triad of statistical significance (the problematic criterion of “p < .05”), effect size, and the power of a statistical test, 3) the socio-cultural context of psychological research, 4) researchers' failure to follow methodological and ethical guidelines, and 5) possible precautions and remedies.

Gender Disparity of First Authors in Review Article Publications Related to Schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia is a severe psychotic condition that can be diagnosed when certain symptoms, such as disorganized speech, disorganized thoughts, or negative feelings, are present for at least six months in a person's life. Gender equity and representation in academic writing are significant issues that have received more attention recently. Understanding the gender discrepancies in authorship can help researchers studying schizophrenia overcome obstacles and potential biases. The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of gender discrepancy among initial authors of articles that focused on schizophrenia and to identify potential causes of such inequalities. A bibliometric analysis ofarticles related to schizophrenia published from 2019 to 2022 was conducted. The authors' genders were determined through available public records and professional affiliations. The analysis included assessing the proportion of male and female first authors and examining trends over time. A total of 982 articles were included in the analysis. The results revealed a significant gender disparity in first authorship, with a higher representation of male first authors (546, 55.6%) compared to female first authors (436, 44.4%). There is a significant increase in the percentage of female authors from 2019 to 2022 (i.e., from 25% to 48.5%). The number of female and male authors is predicted to remain at a constant from 2023 to 2027, with male authors at 175 and female authors at slightly above 150. The findings of this study underscore the need for continued efforts to address gender imbalances in academic publishing and promote gender equity in the field of schizophrenia research. Recognizing and rectifying these disparities can contribute to a more inclusive and diverse scientific community.

Realization of cognitive models of situations through phraseological units in English-language articles on culture

Currently, in the media discourse, the authors of articles actively realize their pragmatic intentions through the pragmatic potential of phraseological units. The relevance of the study can be proved due to the fact that at the moment there is no information about the components of cognitive models of situations which can be most effectively used by the authors of articles to realize their pragmatic intentions through the pragmatic potential of phraseological units in articles of certain thematic groups. The purpose of the article is to determine the components of cognitive models of situations that are actualized and brought to the fore through the pragmatics of phraseological units in the texts of the English-language media discourse on the topic «culture», the reasons for the actualization of these components of cognitive models of situations by phraseological units, as well as to establish what pragmatic goals of the authors this is due. The study was conducted on the material of media texts – the texts of articles posted on the website of The Guardian newspaper. The research used methods of discourse analysis, semiotic analysis, observation and description techniques. As a result of the analysis of the articles on the topic «culture», it was identified that in the most of the examples the components «situation» and «circumstances» of cognitive models were brought to the fore through the pragmatics of phraseological units, also there was determined the cause of this phenomenon.

Frustration vs provocative strategies: the efficiency of use during a pandemic

The article deals with the features of news headlines during the period of high prevalence of coronavirus, Ebola fever and monkey pox. The purpose of the study is to identify the most common speech strategies and tactics, linguistic means which are used to influence the addressee. The author pays special attention to such expressive speech strategies as frustrating and provocative ones. The frustration strategy involves influencing the psychological condition of the addressee, affecting his biological, social or existential fear. This speech strategy is implemented through the tactics of mongering negative emotions and shocking with «facts», the intimidation tactics, the tactics of appealing to statistical data, etc. The provocative strategy is investigated as the intentional conduct of the addresser towards the recipient, destabilizing his emotional state and inciting him to the actions desired by the author. The described strategy is often implemented with the investigating information tactics or the emotionally destabilizing tactics. The article analyzes examples of news headlines demonstrating the use of frustrating and provocative speech strategies, as well as tactics and linguistic means that are used to implement these strategies. In the research the author comes to the conclusion that the authors of newscasts or news articles use such linguistic means that affect the audience as homonyms, paronyms, occasional words, epiphora, metaphor, personification, antithesis, polysemy, precedent phenomena, idioms, proverbs, parcellation.
