Cone Beam Computed Tomography CBCT imaging system was used for the first time for angiography, radiotherapy and mammography in 1982. In 1990s, with its development, we had a chance to get 3 dimensional imaging system in addition to 2 dimensional in dentistry and it was first used for maxillofacial region in 1997. Although conventional radiography technique is commonly used nowadays, converting the morphology of 3 dimensional bone and teeth to 2 dimensional radiographs may cause insufficient examination and inaccurate diagnose. These insufficiencies made researchers study on 3 dimensional imaging systems to improve them. The usage of CBCT in dentistry has increased exceedingly, especially for last five years and includes diagnose and therapy of anatomic and pathologic structures in oral and maxillofacial region, assessment of temporomandibular joint, implant planning and many other issues. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of applications of Cone Beam Computed Tomography systems in dental practice and its facilities for dentists
