Substitution was the commonest type of defect and was present in 72.3% while distortion and omission were observed in 18.1 and 9.6% respectively. One hundred cases of defective articulation were registered in our clinic. The substitution type of defect was detected in 63 cases. The velar series were more commonly affected. Omission of single consonants was present in 11, and in combination in 4 cases. The distortion type of defect was present in 22 cases, out of these 18 had unintelligent speech. Phonetic drills were prepared according to the articular defect. Rehabilitation was attempted in 96 cases and 51 out of them attained normal speech.
