Main routes and attractions of Crimea in the sphere of art tourism

This article examines the key routes and attractions of Crimea, which play a significant role in the development of art tourism on the peninsula. Crimea, with its rich historical and cultural heritage, attracts artists, writers and art lovers from all over the world. In the article, we analyze the most interesting points, such as: Bakhchisarai, Yalta, Sevastopol and Simferopol, where art galleries, museums, plein airs and cultural events are concentrated. Particular attention is paid to places of nature that inspired famous artists, as well as modern art spaces that contribute to the development of creative initiatives. During the study, we note the impact of art tourism on the economy of the region and its potential for the sustainable development of the cultural environment of Crimea. The article also includes recommendations for organizing cultural routes for tourists, taking into account the artistic context, which contributes to immersion in the unique atmosphere of Crimean art.

Ars Erotica: Sex and Somaesthetics in the Classical Arts of Love: Exploring Shusterman’s Writing Identity in the Discourse on the Art of Lovemaking and Body Aesthetics

Standing in marked contrast with Foucauldian notion of “the care for the self” which seeks bodily pleasure by advocating violent practices of consensual homosexual sadomasochism and drugs, Shusterman’s Ars Erotica takes up the notion further by unveiling the idea of somaesthetics that alternatively favors such tranquil, less violent somatic practices as a pursuit of bodily pleasure and cultivation. Rich in its cross-cultural perspectives of how artistic body practices (including the art of love making) are cultivated, Ars Erotica combines important ideas from different philosophical traditions with literary works emanating from varied cultural, religious, and linguistic legacies. The mixture of both philosophy and literature in the book helps reconcile the long-standing disputes regarding the divide between the two scholarships, thus making Shusterman’s writing worthy of investigating. Drawing on these notions of aspects of identity – “self as author” and “discoursal self” (Ivanic, 1998), this article is an attempt to explore these aspects of identity. Thematic coding was used as a technique of data analysis. Findings revealed that aspects of identity can be categorized and suggested as follows: (1) taking control by evaluating while averring to reliable sources, (2) interfering credible sources by infusing personal positioning (3) translanguaging to create aesthetic textual postures.

FORM AND FUNCTION STUDY OF BARIS KEKUPU DANCE IN BANJAR LEBAH, SUMERTA KAJA VILLAGE, DENPASAR CITY

Dance is one of the crucial aspects of the Balinese Hindu community's artistic, cultural, and socio-religious activities. Dance is referred to as the art of movement and contains aesthetic and philosophical values, which can be enjoyed by the dancers and the audience (art lovers) during the performance. In Sumerta Kaja Village, East Denpasar Subdistrict, Denpasar City, there is a Baris Dance whose shape has a speciality, namely the Kekupu Baris Dance. This article aims to describe the beauty of the form and function of Baris Kekupu Dance. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The results showed that the Baris Kekupu Dance is a traditional Balinese dance created around 1930 by a Balinese kakebyaran artist, I Nyoman Kaler. This dance describes the movements of a group of colourful butterflies who are playing in a beautiful flower garden, happily looking for flower honey. Baris Kekupu dance was popularized by Banjar Lebah dance maestro, Ni Ketut Arini, and until now, its existence is still sustainable and has become an icon of Banjar Lebah. The uniqueness of Baris Kekupu Dance can be seen from its dance movements and costumes, which combine Legong dance movements with Baris dance movements. Furthermore, in terms of dance costumes for body decoration using awiran type costumes (Baris Dance costumes), while for headdresses using gelungan of legong dance (the type of gelungan pepudakan). Baris Kekupu Dance has two primary functions: as a ritual tool in the Dewa Yadnya (a ceremony to Gods/Goddesses) and Pitra Yadnya (ceremonial offerings to ancestors) ceremonies, and as an aesthetic presentation.

Miniaturists — Graduates of the Imperial Academy of Arts on the Modern Art Market

Graduates of the portrait miniature class at the Imperial Academy of Arts, which operated for more than half a century, were many first-class miniaturists whose names are now, unfortunately, known only to specialists. By now, most leading museums have published their collections of portrait miniatures, but historically, none of the researchers have considered the study of the art market (and the miniatures of academician artists appearing on it) as an opportunity, firstly, to identify new works of miniature art, and secondly, to find out whether an artist’s academic education or title influences contemporary pricing and the interest of buyers (which can be private collectors or museums) in his works.Nevertheless, it is the information on the functioning of the art market that provides data for more in-depth and comprehensive research. Thus, the sales index of a certain author much more clearly than numerous exhibitions can show its demand among art lovers. It should be noted that not all users of auction platforms are professional collectors. There are cases when personal exhibitions of artists did not contribute to the growth of interest in their work on the part of art collectors. There is also an opposite situation, when works by artists about whom only a rare researcher knows become a desiderata for many collectors. The present study expands the understanding of the place on the contemporary art market of Russian miniaturists associated with the Academy of Arts (its graduates and academicians), and makes it possible to fill in the gaps in the attribution and identification of the peculiarities of their works. It is concluded that there is no direct connection between the fact of studying at the Imperial Academy of Arts and the prices of their works, but the high artistic level of miniatures allows us to say that the title of academician was indeed given to the most worthy masters.

Social Studies and Love of Art: Students and Teachers Enlighten the Connections

Art and artistic activities that play a significant role in the lives of both children and adults, are an important requirement for all individuals. Cultures develop, expand, and enrich through artistic activities, which are important for the development of visual literacy, especially in social studies. The present study aims to determine the reflection of various artistic branches in social studies course and the student interest and love that art considered to evoke in the context of the social studies course. In the study, qualitative research methods and techniques were used to review relevant documents and to determine the participant views about the role of art in social studies. First, the current Turkish social studies curricula and textbooks were analyzed. Then, an interview form developed by the authors was applied to 80 students attending all grades in a public middle school and 3 teachers employed in these schools in one of the major cities in Turkey. The attributes employed by the teachers and students in the interview form were analyzed with thematic/content analysis. The study findings demonstrated that that the curricula and textbook achievements that allow activities in several art branches were limited. However, despite the limitation, the study findings demonstrated that the students were interested in different art branches and evidenced the support of the social studies to the development of interest and love for certain learning areas.

Workshop of Terravor: Terrarium as An Education Media for Introducing Carnivorous Plants of Sumatra to the Society of Nature Themed Art Lovers

There are still many plant species that the public currently needs to be made aware. It is because the uses of plants still need to be well explored, which has left them with little practical usefulness. The potential of these plants can be utilized as a tool in educational media and as items with creative and unique value in the commercial sector. Carnivorous plants are among them. In addition to having unique shapes, art enthusiasts can use this plant to turn their interests and skills into terrarium products. TERRAVOR is an innovative terrarium product with carnivorous plants as the main ingredient. This product specializes in carnivorous plants found in the Sumatra region to educate the public regarding the sustainable use of these plants and their status in nature so that the use value of these plants can be maintained for an extended period. This workshop aims to educate the public, especially a society of nature-themed art lovers, about the sustainable use of carnivorous plants. This one-day workshop involved a society interested in terrarium techniques and the uniqueness of carnivorous plants. In this workshop, participants consisting of 13 people who have natural-themed artistic talent were introduced to the ins and outs of carnivorous plants, their conservation status, how to cultivate them in terrarium conditions, and their care. The results of this workshop showed that the number of participants' understanding of the importance of carnivorous plants increased. In addition, participants know more about how to use it sustainably without destroying its natural populations.

The historical adventures of Takeshi Kawase: the mountaineer who explored the "no man's land" with love for art, nature, and humankind.

The anterior petrosal approach, or Kawase's approach, is a commonly used technique in skull base surgery to access the brainstem in the posterior fossa from the middle fossa, and has the advantages of minimizing brain retraction and preserving hearing. It was first successfully performed by the legendary Japanese neurosurgeon, Takeshi Kawase, for the clipping of a basilar artery aneurysm in 1981. To date, no historical article has shed light on Kawase's intriguing personal history. In this historical vignette, the authors depict Kawase's unique background, talent, passion, as well as struggles that ultimately shaped his career. By sharing Kawase's personal story from the hospital where he first successfully performed his original approach, the authors hope to pass on to future generations Kawase's spirit and philosophy that have impacted the global neurosurgical community.

The Quality Evaluation and Management Mechanism Optimization of Art Education under the Guidance of Student Development

In recent years, art education’s role in students’ comprehensive development has gradually been valued, and the quality evaluation and management mechanism of art education guided by student development has received widespread attention from educators. This study explores establishing and optimizing a quality evaluation and management mechanism for art education based on students’ personalities and developmental needs. The study used literature review, case analysis, and expert interviews to analyze the problems in current art education evaluation, such as the singularity of evaluation criteria, emphasis on results over processes, and neglect of students’ emotional experiences and creative development. Based on this, optimization strategies were proposed. The strategy includes constructing diversified evaluation indicators, strengthening process and experience evaluation, emphasizing innovation ability, and a continuous feedback mechanism for educational quality. By optimizing the evaluation and management of art education, the aim is to better promote students’ personalized and comprehensive development and cultivate their love for art and lifelong learning ability.

Provenance research: Entangled histories of objects from Asia and Oceania in the missionary museum “Forum der Völker”

In the missionary museum “Forum der Völker”, founded by the Franciscan religious order, ethnographic objects – in particular ritual implements or religious art – were transferred to a Christian context by reinterpreting them as counter-images for the missionary task. Missionaries commodified devices of local worship and showed an ambivalence towards human remains and weapons. The museum’s collection was extended in the past thirty years by private collections, including objects obtained by the military from the colonial period or of antiquities theft by art lovers. The initial provenance research in the museum used archive material, gathered information by studying the objects and conducted interviews with relevant actors. The implication of the findings revealed unclear changes of ownership and various potentially sensitive acquisition contexts that offers an orientation in how to deal with objects of problematic provenance in a missionary context.

The Importance of Art and Museum Education in Teacher Training

Since art is an action specific to the individual, the development of aesthetic feelings within the education and training processes is an important condition for creating an effective society. People who do not have an artistic consciousness or love for art cannot realize and enjoy the works of art, cultural values and natural beauties they own, cannot protect them, cannot contribute to the cultural development of the society. It is important that art and museums, which have a great impact on all stages of life, are integrated with educational content by future teachers and that teacher candidates learn to integrate them into the classroom within the curriculum, taking into account the interests of the students. In this sense, it can be seen as a necessity for teacher candidates who undertake the education of the next generation to use artistic activities and museums effectively in the classroom, as they undertake the task of transferring social culture. This study aims to reveal the thoughts of Social Studies educators on the importance of art and museum practices in teacher education. In line with this general purpose, evaluations were made in parallel with the opinions of field experts at the end of the research.

EXPLORATION OF CREATIVITY THROUGH EMPOWERMENT ACTIVITIES TIE DYE MAKING USING A COOPERATIVE LEARNING APPROACH FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS

Exploratory activities through empowering the creation of Tie Dye works in practical Arts, Culture and Crafts (SBdP) learning can improve various character values in students. Some of the characters that can be developed are love of art and culture, love of the homeland, responsibility and cooperation. This competency empowerment activity aims to reveal the development of cooperative character through the SBdP practice of making jumputan or tie dye batik. This article is a process of community service carried out in the school environment using a participatory approach, using joint data collection techniques in activities and empowerment through observation and peer review. The subjects were 18 grade 5 students at Klaci State Elementary School. Data obtained directly in the field when practice is reduced to sorting, selecting and simplifying subject matter, then the appropriate data will be presented through analytical exposure in a phenomenological perspective. Broken to the trade: French lacemakers’ tools as sources of pride and pain

Abstract Lacemaking in nineteenth-century France continued to be organized on a ‘putting-out’ basis, involving tens of thousands of women working from home. Their tools—pillow, bobbins, pins—were cheap or easy to make, and also highly portable, enabling lacemakers to gather in groups while working. These same tools held strong emotional and symbolic connotations, both for lacemakers themselves and for the art lovers and social crusaders who were determined to protect the trade from mechanization. Pillows, bobbins and other tools could be decorated with sentimental, religious or other messages. Lace tools were anthropomorphized in local dialects, made into ‘servants’. They were exchanged as gifts between couples, lent by neighbours and passed down from previous generations. They invoked and embodied lacemakers’ relationships, as well as their own craft identity. On their feast days lacemakers paraded replicas of their tools as a public statement of craft pride. Yet in lacemakers’ work culture, the tools were sometimes depicted as instruments of torture or as weapons used against those who forced them to work so long for so little. Lacemakers were ‘broken to the trade’ (rompu au métier) by their tools and the bodily attitudes they were forced to adopt. As the market for homemade lace declined and lacemaking became ever more closely associated with poverty, some lacemakers destroyed their tools as a protest at the grinding discipline of the trade.

This research also identifies future research directions to deepen the understanding of the role of philosophy of art in facing challenges and innovations in the evolving art world.

GIL VALDO JOSÉ DA SILVA (1954-2023)

Gil Valdo José da Silva, from Guaimbê, São Paulo, rose above the constraints of his small-town upbringing. He moved to São Paulo in 1970 and graduated from the Antárctica Technical School with a degree in Industrial Chemistry. Initially employed by General Motors do Brasil, his zeal for knowledge drove him to pass the entrance exam at the University of S. Paulo's Chemistry Institute (IQ-USP) in 1975. Balancing studies and work, he taught chemistry in schools and developed a passion for teaching. Gil Valdo graduated in 1980 and went on to undertake doctoral studies in organic synthesis of natural goods. He was interested in research, particularly chemical synthesis and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques. His accomplishments went beyond the classroom; he became a licensed pilot, a Dive Master, and a lover of languages, culinary arts, and winemaking. Gil Valdo retired in December 2021, after more than 30 years at FFCLRP-USP, to pursue his passions more freely. He died on July 21, 2023, as a result of a heart attack. He was survived by a loving family and a legacy of intellectual, scientific, and cultural achievements. Gil Valdo José da Silva will be remembered for his serenity, dedication, and the diverse interests that enriched his life and the lives of those who were lucky enough to know him.

‘Art lovers of the world unite to aid Florence’: techniques to motivate the crowd in post-disaster heritage crowdfunding

Crowdfunding relies heavily on public participation and public participation is subject to certain conditions, such as the motivation to participate and the effectiveness of the call to participate. Using the case of the 1966 Florence Flood, this article explores the techniques to motivate the crowd adopted by the Committee to Rescue Italian Art, a committee formed in the USA to help protect the heritage of Florence, and newspaper reports published in the USA between 1966 and 1968. Seven overlapping frames were evident in the news reports and the CRIA’s call: damage, fundraising, people, rescue, restoration, the committee and its actions, and the value of Florence. In essence, the techniques adopted to motivate people to participate in the post-disaster crowdfunding included: (1) the dependency on mainstream media; (2) frequent use of all available communication channels; (3) multiple types of calls for support; (4) emphasis on the value of Florence; (5) highlighting a shared sense of ownership; (6) giving a sense of urgency; and (7) evoking the memory of past disasters. While the news media worked to inform the public, CRIA worked to encourage them to participate. The media reports analysed did not leverage emotive content to attract crowd participation whereas the calls initiated by CRIA used some emotive content. The article concludes with a discussion on the implications for managing crowdfunding campaigns to utilise the power of decentralised collective action.
