Implementasi Pojok Literasi Sebagai Strategi Penigkatan Literasi Siswa di Lingkungan SDN 1 Tongka Kalimantan Tengah

This community service program was implemented to address the low literacy levels among students in remote areas of Central Kalimantan, specifically at SDN 1 Tongka, Gunung Timang District, North Barito Regency. The main objective of the program was to implement a literacy corner as a strategy to improve student literacy and create a sustainable literacy ecosystem in the school environment. The method used included participatory and adaptive approaches, applying the concept of a "mobile literacy corner" adapted to the limitations of local space and resources. The program was carried out over 45 days, covering preparation, implementation, and evaluation phases. The results showed a significant increase in students' reading interest, with a 68% rise in the frequency of visits to the literacy corner. Pre-test and post-test evaluations indicated an average increase in students' literacy skills of 27%, particularly in reading comprehension and vocabulary mastery. Participatory observation revealed the formation of a stronger literacy culture in the school environment, characterized by student-initiated literacy discussions and increased use of references in academic tasks. The program also successfully developed an adaptive and contextual model for implementing literacy corners, which has the potential to be replicated in other remote areas of Indonesia.

S-BESE: Strategy for Improving the Quality of Life for Coastal Area Communities in West Kalimantan

The coastal area of West Kalimantan has a wealth of marine and river fishery resources that have the potential to be utilized optimally, including fishing, conservation, port activities, marine cultivation, coastal tourism, and water. Various problems in coastal areas that need to be prioritized to provide solutions include the occurrence of illegal fishing, damage to coral reef ecosystems and mangroves, coastal abrasion, not yet optimal development of ponds where utilization only reaches 40% of their potential, natural disasters which result in increased poverty and ecosystem damage, as well as the growth of corruption and injustice. The number of people living in poverty has been steadily increasing at an average rate of 6.86% over the past three years, reaching 353,350 individuals in 2023. This research aims to develop coastal areas, creating local economic development innovations to reduce poverty, unemployment, and inequality and preserve natural resources. The method developed in this study was carried out descriptively and qualitatively by developing an in-depth analysis through SWOT. The results provide solutions for improvements and innovations, which include implementing a blue economy by utilizing the modernization of fishing gear, developing a paradigm shift from land to water resources, and producing garbage filters in rivers so they do not wash away into the sea. This study will improve the quality of life economically and socially while maintaining the ecology in coastal areas.

Characteristics and Distribution of Chemical-Biological Parameters in The Seawaters of Eastern Java Sea

The Java Sea is influenced by the west and east monsoons, which have an impact on hydrodynamic processes and chemical-biological water quality. Chemical-biological parameters play an important role in the food chain cycle that occurs in these waters. The quality of the eastern Java Sea waters is still limited by chemical-biological parameters, so the characteristics and distribution of these waters can be comprehensively known. chemical-biological. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics and distribution of nitrate, phosphate, oxygen, chlorophyll-A, and NPP parameters in the eastern Java Sea waters. This study used secondary data with daily temporal resolution from January to December 2020. Spatial analysis uses the climatological averaging method for 6 months as a statistical representative of the west monsoon and east monsoon. For each parameter, a vertical analysis was conducted to compare parameter values between the coastal waters of Tuban, Java Sea, and Banjarmasin Waters. Correlation analysis between parameters was conducted using the Pearson correlation method. Nitrate, phosphate, oxygen, chlorophyll-A, and NPP concentrations have temporal and spatial variability. Monsoon factors in Indonesia have a strong influence on the variability of nitrate, phosphate, oxygen, chlorophyll- A, and NPP concentrations. During the east monsoon, the concentration of chemical-biological parameters decreases, while in the west monsoon, the concentration increases and reaches its highest value. Generally, high concentrations occur in the northern and southern parts of the study site, around the coastal areas of Java and Kalimantan. Analysis of Social Factors on Immunization Refusal in Jungkat Village

Background: Immunization is one of the most effective and efficient health intervention programs to prevent various diseases in children. But there are still refusals of immunization in some areas in West Kalimantan, one of which is in Jungkat Village. The low number of fully immunized children in Jungkat Village is a serious problem. As a result of not being immunized, dangerous diseases that can be prevented by immunization still threaten children in Jungkat Village. This study aims to understand and identify the factors of refusal of complete basic immunization in Jungkat Village, Mempawah District, West Kalimantan. Methods: This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The number of participants in this study was six people who were selected using purposive sampling method. Of the six people, consisted of the head of the Jungkat Health Center, posyandu officers, and three mothers who had toddlers aged 0-24 months. Results: Traditional beliefs and experiences: people in Jungkat village believe that bad things will happen after immunization, family support: without family support, mothers in Jungkat village will be less motivated to participate in the immunization program, parents. There are parents who do not understand why immunization is important for their children's health. Conclusions: Research on the factors of refusal of basic immunization in Jungkat Village, found that the factors of belief in tradition and community experience, community experience, family support, and parental knowledge greatly influenced community attitudes towards immunization.

Digital Transformation of English Language Teaching (ELT) at Junior High School Level: A Case Study in Remote Area of West Kalimantan

The development of technology runs very rapidly in this day and age. Indonesian are no exception to the worldwide trend toward greater reliance on digital technologies. And the Sambas community as residents of border areas tend to enter underdeveloped areas in various aspects of life, including in the field of education, especially in English language learning. The weak use of English communication for students living at the border further complicates opportunities to enter the workforce. As a border area with a high intensity of interaction and communication with other countries, it demands mastering English from an early age. The border area should get special attention from the government because the border area is a strategic area from the point of defense and security of a country and as an attraction for trade and tourism. Learning using digital means must absolutely be mastered by teachers as a means of improving English learning in the area. Based on the explanation above, this research reveals the problem that exists in digital English language teaching (ELT) at the junior high school level in border areas. EROSION HAZARD LEVEL PREDICTION IN LAKE OF SENTARUM AREA

The Sentarum Lake region, a conservation area in Kalimantan, is integral to the Kapuas River Basin, which is recognized nationally. Ensuring its sustainability demands diverse studies, including erosion risk assessment. Accurate predictions are vital due to the region's ecosystem role in West Kalimantan. Estimating erosion magnitude provides crucial data on sedimentation, which impacts the sustainability of endemic flora and fauna. This study aims to (a) pinpoint erosion factors in Lake of Sentarum, (b) assess erosion hazard levels, (c) create an erosion hazard map with ArcGIS, and (d) prescribe soil conservation measures. Methods encompassed (a) field and institutional surveys for data gathering and (b) the USLE method for erosion hazard analysis. Identifying erosion factors in the Sentarum Lake area reveals rainfall, soil type, slope, and land cover as significant influencers. Analysis indicates heavy erosion hazards for Inceptisol and Utilosol soils, except in areas with primary dryland forest or flat-sloped dryland agriculture where hazards are heavy. Peat-containing soils are especially prone to erosion. Oxisol soils on flat slopes with agricultural land cover face heavy hazards, while moderate hazards occur in dryland agriculture on steeper slopes. The region faces considerable erosion risk, particularly in specific soil and land cover conditions, emphasizing the need for targeted soil conservation measures. Thus, the Sentarum Lake area is highly susceptible to erosion, necessitating specific soil conservation measures. Structural methods like constructing bench terraces prove more effective than non-structural ones, such as tillage and contour line planting, reducing erosion hazard by approximately 96%.

ANALYSIS OF FLOOD VULNERABILITY LEVELS IN LANDAK REGENCY USING GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM

Law No. 24/2007 defines a disaster as a series of events that threaten and disrupt people's lives caused by natural, non-natural, and human factors, resulting in loss of life, environmental damage, and property loss. Landak Regency is one of the areas in West Kalimantan that is often flooded. Floods in Landak Regency impact people's lives, so they must be minimized. One of the efforts to minimize flooding is by mapping flood vulnerability. Flood vulnerability mapping is one of the early mitigations that utilize technological developments.This article presents the research results that aim to map the level of flood vulnerability in Landak Regency. The mapping was carried out using ArcGIS 10.8 software, and the data used are rainfall data, land use maps, slope, soil type, and land cover.The analysis shows the runoff coefficient rose from 0.16 in 2012 to 0.19 in 2021 due to land use changes converting forests and agriculture to settlements, impacting drainage. Flood vulnerability mapping identified highly vulnerable areas covering 21.41% of Landak Regency, focused near Ngabang, Sebangki, and Mandor, particularly along rivers. Vulnerability in Ngabang District decreased due to upstream spatial control policies, which established it as a protected forest area under regulations. Flood vulnerability assessment against Landak Regency's RTRW revealed flood-prone areas covering 490,097.51 Ha (60.77%), dominated by plantations (303,947.52 Ha), production forests (73,610.58 Ha), and agriculture (47,259.98 Ha). These results highlight the necessity of comprehensive spatial planning to effectively manage flood risks and protect Landak Regency's environment and communities.

Community empowerment for reducing the risk of peatland fires in the wetland area of South Kalimantan

Fires that continue to occur in the dry season, cause fire management to be carried out immediately. Community empowerment in fire suppression is essential to improve. This study analyzes community empowerment in fire management in fire-prone peatland areas in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. The number of samples in this study was 250 people directly involved in empowerment activities in fire-prone areas. There are 37 questions about physical capital, social capital, human capital, ability in empowerment, empowerment process and community empowerment—data analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results show that physical capital, social capital and empowerment capabilities have not formed communities that can make decisions and are independent in combating peatland fires. Community empowerment programs are limited to volunteer groups and do not cover all community groups.

Community Structure Of Seagrass In Southeast Waters Cempedak Island West Kalimantan

Cempedak Island is one of the Coastal and Small Islands Conservation Areas (KKP3K) in West Kalimantan has various marine biological resources and important ecosystems, including seagrass. Seagrass is used as the main food source for dugong, potential habitat for various types of organisms, and potential to be developed as marine ecotourism. On the other hand, seagrass ecosystems faced threats, such as high sedimentation and the influence of anthropogenic activities. It is unknown about the current status of seagrass on Cempedak Island. This research aimed to analyze the structure of seagrass in the southeastern waters of Cempedak Island. Seagrass data collection was carried out in the tidal zone using line transect of 70 m and a quadratic transect of 1x1 m2. Data collection on seagrass and water parameters was carried out in October 2023. Determination of research sites was done using an explorative method based on the presence of seagrass. The seagrass found consisted of 4 species, namely Enhalus acoroides, Cymodocea rotundata, Halodule pinifolia, and Halophila ovalis. Seagrass cover ranged from 9.17–16.74%, with an abundance of 1.4–373.3 ind/m2. The diversity index (H') is in the low to medium category, the uniformity index (E) is in the medium category and the dominance index (C) is in the low category. Conditions of water quality parameters were into the optimal range to support seagrass life.

Community Empowerment in Training of Fish Preservation Processing Typical of Wetland Environment with Commercial Value

Haruan, or cork fish (Channa striata), is an abundant freshwater marine wealth and is found in many rivers or swamp areas in South Kalimantan, including in the neighborhood of RT 05 Keliling Benteng Ulu Village. This fish has a high economic value and good nutritional content, especially albumin. Haruan fish is usually consumed directly by the community or made into salted fish. The problems found in the community are (a) there is no Haruan fish jerky production; (b) there is no knowledge of how to make Haruan fish jerky. The purpose of this activity is to increase economic selling value and provide nutritious alternative foods. Problem solving for partners is done by guiding the making of haruan fish jerky.

EXAMINING THE TRANSFORMATION OF ENGLISH LEARNING OUTCOMES IN POST-PANDEMIC HIGHER EDUCATION

This study aims to investigate the impact of the change from online to face-to-face learning on the students’ academic achievement of students majoring in English Education at a university located in a least-developed area in West Kalimantan. This qualitative study involved 30 students who experienced both online and face-to-face learning transformation. Data were collected through open and closed questionnaires. The results showed that most students experienced an increase in grades after returning to face-to-face classes compared to online learning. Some influencing factors include social interaction, ease of understanding the lecturer's explanation, better focus, and active class participation. This finding implies that blended online and face-to-face learning may be ideal for least-developed regions.

Palm Village is one of the areas in Palam District, Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan Province which can be reached by land about 5 km from the Kalimantan Islamic University MAB Banjarbaru. The source of livelihood for the villagers is in the field of handicrafts. Purun is a type of wild plant that grows in swamps. Purun is found in many swamp areas in South Kalimantan. In the dry season, purun is very flammable and causes a lot of smoke which is detrimental to health, traffic and even flights. Purun can be processed into a variety of interesting woven crafts such as mats, sandals, handbags and so on. One of the villages that is a center for purun crafts is Palam Village. The people of Palam Village have been familiar with crafts from this purun material for generations, which are generally made into mats with various motif.

Coastal Clean Up sebagai Upaya Penguatan Strategi Pengelolaan Kawasan Konservasi Pesisir dan Pulau-pulau Kecil (KKP3K) Paloh Kalimantan Barat

Paloh District is a coastal area which directly borders to Sarawak (Malaysia) and the Natuna Sea. This area has the potential for marine and coastal resources, such as mangrove ecosystems, coral reefs and turtles, so it has been designated as one of the conservation areas in West Kalimantan. To date, in the management of KKP3K Paloh, there are still many challenges, one of them is plastic waste contamination. Plastic waste is a global and very complex problem, because it can have a negative impact on biota, ecosystems and human health. The results of a report from BKSDA in collaboration with the WWF-Indonesia Foundation, found that 21 young turtles were died on Paloh Beach, West Kalimantan due to plastic waste was found in their digestive tract. Plastic accumulation in the aquatic environment occurs when the rate of input of plastic pollution into an area exceeds the rate of natural removal processes. Therefore, it is needed an action to reduce the amount of plastic waste accumulated in coastal and marine areas. This activity aimed to reduce the amount of plastic waste on Sungai Belacan Beach, Paloh District, West Kalimantan. Apart from that, this activity was an effort to strengthen the management strategy for the Coastal and Small Islands Conservation Area (KKP3K) in Paloh, West Kalimantan. Community Service Activities were carried out at Sungai Belacan Beach. The results found the waste types consisting of plastic bottles, glass bottles, medicine bottles, drink cups/packaging, food and beauty product packaging, stereofoam, plastic bags and ropes, fishermen's fishing gear, and wood. Plastic waste has the highest percentage (95%), then wood waste (3%), and other types of waste (2%).

Estuary Clean Up dalam Mendukung Pengelolaan Kawasan Pesisir Desa Sungai Nibung Kalimantan Barat

Desa Sungai Nibung is a coastal with high biodiversity, so this village has been designated as a conservation area in West Kalimantan with the main conservation target is mangrove. The mangrove ecosystem has an important ecological role, namely as a habitat for marine and coastal biota. A maintained ecosystem will protect the survival of the biota within it. Therefore, managing coastal areas is essential and a shared responsibility. One of the challenges faced in the management process in Desa Sungai Nibung is plastic waste pollution. This waste comes from disposal and runoff from land, which can enter rivers and the sea. Plastic pollution also comes from fishing activities, such as ship traffic, responsive fisheries, and cultivation. This waste needs to be appropriately managed because there is no final waste disposal site (TPA). Household waste and waste from several shops (plastic food and drink packaging) are dumped directly around the building. The accumulation of plastic waste will continue to increase. Therefore, cleanup activities were carried out to reduce plastic waste. Apart from that, this activity aims to educate activity participants about the negative impact of plastic waste on the environment. This community service activity was carried out by a lecturer in Marine Science, FMIPA, Tanjungpura University, who involved students from the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. Beaches and coastal clean-up from macroplastic waste are carried out in residential areas, docks, and areas near fishing activities and ecotourism areas. Implementation of PKM activities consists of permission and coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The waste from activities varies from plastic bags, sachet packaging, and food containers to fishing lines. Plastic waste dominates compared to other waste. Participants' understanding concerning plastic waste pollution and its negative impact on the environment and aquatic organisms increased after the activity took place.

This design was motivated by the lack of car transportation sales facilities in Kuala Kapuas and the tips of PT. Honda Trio Raya to continue to provide the best effort in reaching consumers, especially in the Kuala Kapuas area of Central Kalimantan. Contemporary architectural style itself is considered as an architectural style that reflects a quality and novelty, so the concept used to solve this design problem is to apply contemporary architectural principles into the design of the showroom according to the functions and needs of the Honda car showroom itself.

Coastal Acid-Sulfate Soils of Kalimantan, Indonesia, for Food Security: Characteristics, Management, and Future Directions

Coastal acid-sulfate soils are crucial for producing crops and thus, for food security. However, over time, these soil resources experience degradation, leading to higher agro-input, lower yields, and environmental hazards that finally threaten food security. The optimal use of this fragile resource is only attained by implementing vigorous integrated water–soil–crop management technologies amid the climate change impact. This study aimed to review the distribution, properties, use, and management of acid-sulfate soils in Kalimantan, Indonesia. Acid-sulfate soils cover about 3.5 Mha of the coastal area in Kalimantan and have high acidity, high-risk iron and aluminum toxicity, and low fertility, requiring precise water management, amelioration and fertilizer application, crop variety selection, and rice cultivation technologies. Lime, biochar, organic fertilizer, compost, ash, and fly ash are ameliorants that raise pH, reduce iron and aluminum toxicity, and improve crop yield. Rice cultivation has developed from traditional to modern but needs re-designing to fit local conditions. Depending on the soil nutrient status, rice cultivation requires 80–200 kg ha−1 of urea, 50–150 kg ha−1 of SP36, 50–150 kg ha−1 of KCl, and 125–400 kg ha−1 of NPK compound fertilizer, but is affected by CH4 and CO2 emissions. Good water management impacts the effective implementation of amelioration and fertilizer application technologies. The remaining challenges and future directions for water management, amelioration, fertilizer application, crop varieties, cultivation techniques, land use optimization, climate change adaptation and mitigation, technology adoption and implementation, and resource conservation are outlined. Acid-sulfate soils remain a resource capital that supports food security regionally and nationally in Indonesia.

The value of local wisdom for peatland fire risk reduction in the wetland area of South Kalimantan

Mitigation of land fires that occur in wetland areas, especially in peatlands, continues to be addressed by the community in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan Province. Local wisdom that applies in the community, which includes local knowledge, local value, local skills, local sources, and regional society solidarity, is expected to reduce the risk of land fires. The research objective is to analyze the value of local wisdom for peatland fire reduction in the wetland area of South Kalimantan. The respondents interviewed were 30 from the Community and Fire Care Community or Masyarakat Peduli Api (MPA) members. Local wisdom prevailing in the community can reduce the risk of peatland fires. The community has the local knowledge, local value, local skills, local sources, and local society solidarity in managing peatlands. Peatlands managed by communities are less likely to burn than unmanaged lands. The tapulikampar system is a local wisdom in the Banjar community to prepare agricultural peatlands without burning. The Banjar community also has good skills in managing peatlands, which are not easily damaged and prone to burning. Cooperation between community groups in MPA is also well implemented in monitoring land fires and suppression efforts. The community makes maximum efforts so that peatlands are not damaged, and the risk of fire can be reduced because potential resources on peatlands must be passed on to the next generation.

Determination of groundwater potential using geoelectricity in Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan

This survey was conducted to determine the distribution of groundwater in the Tanabumbu area of South Kalimantan. In this study, we aim to obtain the resistivity of soil layers using the Wenner geoelectric method and his one-pass, two-point dipole-dipole configuration. Field survey data were processed using RES2DINV software. Measurement data results are available in the form of 2D resistivity cross visualizations that are analyzed to determine groundwater distribution. In addition, we performed a comparative analysis of the accuracy of geoelectric measurement results using the results of data with different configurations. Based on the results of geoelectric measurements, we are able to find the aquifer location related to a high probability of groundwater.

The Threat of Saltwater Intrusion on Rice Farming in Katingan I Lowland Irrigation Area, Central Kalimantan

The Katingan I Lowlands Irrigation Area (LIA) is one of tidal lowlands irrigation area in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. Because the Katingan I LIA utilizes water from the estuary, the occurence of saltwater intrusion is likely to occur. Assessing water salinity due to saltwater intrusion provides essential information for farmers to manage water appropriately. In addition, this information can also be used by the government to develop policies and management strategies for Katingan I LIA. Saltwater intrusion that occurs when sea water flows into irrigation canals and agricultural land can lead to increased salinity. High salinity levels can affect agricultural productivity, especially in rice crops. Therefore, a thorough salinity study is needed to support the development of rice farming. This study aims to evaluate salinity levels due to saltwater intrusion and understand the factors affecting them. The study measured tidal (water level elevation), electrical conductivity (EC), and salinity data of the Katingan River and several locations in the primary and secondary channels. Data collection methods included continuous and instantaneous measurements using portable data logger installations and handheld devices. The existing water salinity conditions at Katingan I LIA obtained the maximum water salinity value from the three locations of 14,536 ppm and the lowest water salinity value of 3.02 ppm. The maximum water salinity value that enters the primary canal is 5,547 ppm, higher than the thershold salinity value for rice farming (5,120 ppm). Therefore, anticipatory measuers must be conducted to reduce salinity intrusion, such as optitmizing water channels, making water gates, and managing the water use efficiently. It is also recommended that measurements be carried out during the dry season to see the comparison of results and the magnitude of the maximum water salinity value that occurs because salinity problems occur more during the dry season
