Actualization of practical training in medical education

Currently, the issue of the effectiveness of medical personnel training is a key issue for the healthcare sector. The target area of medical personnel training is the combination of theoretical studies and the development of practical skills in the educational process. The article provides a comparative analysis of the norms regulating the features of practical training in educational programs of different levels, the features of practical training in medical education programs. Network forms of practical training implementation, requirements for their resource provision, as well as existing provisions regulating practical training in medical education programs and directions for its improvement are considered.

Creating a model of a training task set for a multitask practical training in the courses “Informatics” and “Information technologies in professional activity”

According to the federal state educational standards, the curriculum for socio-economic and humanitarian students of secondary vocational education (SVE) and higher education (HE) includes disciplines that provide mastery of competencies in the field of information and communication technologies. Along with the course of informatics, they include disciplines of the block “Information technologies in professional activity”: “Information Technologies in Court Activity” (SVE), “Information Technologies in Professional Activity” (for several specialties of SVE), “Information and Communication Technologies in Judicial Activity” (HE), “Information Technologies in Management” (HE), “Information Technologies in Translation Studies” (HE) and several other disciplines.Based on the analysis of scientific literature and an array of manuals — workshops provided to students and teachers by leading Russian electronic library systems (ELS), as well as own pedagogical work in teaching informatics and the block of academic courses “Information Technologies in Professional Activity”, the author proposes a model of training tasks set to be solved during the study of these courses. The relevance of the article subject is conditioned by the necessity to effectively use the time allocated by the curricula of socio-economic and humanitarian training areas of vocational education and higher education for the study of informatics and information technologies in professional activities. The novelty of the results presented by the author is confirmed by the absence of articles and reports on the topic in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) database

Identifying Strengths and Weaknesses in Mobile Education: A Gender-Informed Self-Assessment of Teachers’ Use of Mobile Devices

Mobile devices have the potential to transform education and society. Promoting mobile learning and enhancing teachers’ digital and entrepreneurial skills are essential in achieving this goal. This study analyses the conditions under which the use of mobile technology can support teachers in the design, implementation, and evaluation of teaching and learning processes. Data were collected using a quantitative method based on a self-assessment instrument (Cronbach’s alpha = 1.0046). A total of 327 educators filled out the survey, which included 67 items scored on a Likert scale. The self-assessment tool provided participants with feedback on their mobile device use for educational purposes and suggestions for improvement. The results indicate that the median score of the teachers was 7, which is regarded as satisfactory, with a gender gap of 3.5 points. In addition, three out of seven improvement dimensions were identified: technology learning spaces (54.74%), assessment (57.65%), and design activities (59.26%). In conclusion, the study enabled us to stratify and analyse teachers’ pedagogical perceptions of mobile learning and the significance of inference in certain training areas.

Choice of Piezoelectric Element over Accelerometer for an Energy-Autonomous Shoe-Based System.

Shoe-based wearable sensor systems are a growing research area in health monitoring, disease diagnosis, rehabilitation, and sports training. These systems-equipped with one or more sensors, either of the same or different types-capture information related to foot movement or pressure maps beneath the foot. This captured information offers an overview of the subject's overall movement, known as the human gait. Beyond sensing, these systems also provide a platform for hosting ambient energy harvesters. They hold the potential to harvest energy from foot movements and operate related low-power devices sustainably. This article proposes two types of strategies (Strategy 1 and Strategy 2) for an energy-autonomous shoe-based system. Strategy 1 uses an accelerometer as a sensor for gait acquisition, which reflects the classical choice. Strategy 2 uses a piezoelectric element for the same, which opens up a new perspective in its implementation. In both strategies, the piezoelectric elements are used to harvest energy from foot activities and operate the system. The article presents a fair comparison between both strategies in terms of power consumption, accuracy, and the extent to which piezoelectric energy harvesters can contribute to overall power management. Moreover, Strategy 2, which uses piezoelectric elements for simultaneous sensing and energy harvesting, is a power-optimized method for an energy-autonomous shoe system.

Assessment of postoperative morbidity in Spanish hospitals: Results from a national survey

BackgroundThe methodology used for recording, evaluating and reporting postoperative complications (PC) is unknown.The aim of the present study was to determine how PC are recorded, evaluated, and reported in General and Digestive Surgery Services (GDSS) in Spain, and to assess their stance on morbidity audits. MethodsUsing a cross-sectional study design, an anonymous survey of 50 questions was sent to all the heads of GDSS at hospitals in Spain. ResultsThe survey was answered by 67 out of 222 services (30.2%). These services have a reference population (RP) of 15 715 174 inhabitants, representing 33% of the Spanish population.Only 15 services reported being requested to supply data on morbidity by their hospital administrators. Eighteen GDSS, with a RP of 3 241 000 (20.6%) did not record PC. Among these, 7 were accredited for some area of training. Thirty-six GDSS (RP 8 753 174 (55.7%) did not provide details on all PC in patients’ discharge reports. Twenty-four (37%) of the 65 GDSS that had started using a new surgical procedure/technique had not recorded PC in any way. Sixty-five GDSS were not concerned by the prospect of their results being audited, and 65 thought that a more comprehensive knowledge of PC would help them improve their results. Out of the 37 GDSS that reported publishing their results, 27 had consulted only one source of information: medical progress records in 11 cases, and discharge reports in 9. ConclusionsThis study reflects serious deficiencies in the recording, evaluation and reporting of PC by GDSS in Spain.

On the issue of developing a Concept for the development of mentoring in the fi eld of international relations, foreign policy and diplomacy

Taking into account the relevance and availability of a large number of specialties and professions in our country, this article aims to outline the contours of the future concept of mentoring in the fi eld of vocational guidance and education in the areas of training 03/41/05 — International relations (bachelor's degree) and 04/41/05 — International relations (Master's degree). This article is also intended to encourage the corporate community to actively discuss the issue of mentoring.

Optimization of Micro Hydro Power Plants to Support Community Energy and Indonesian National Army Training in Gunung Halu, West Bandung Regency

Gunung Halu Village, Tangsi Jaya hamlet to reach 250 people in 2023, is faced with significant challenges related to the need for sustainable energy. The energy crisis and environmental issues have encouraged research into alternative energy sources, including Micro Hydro Power Plants (PLTMH), especially in areas with abundant water potential such as Gunung Halu, namely the Ciputri River. The main problem currently being faced is that the PLTMH, which was built in 2007 with a capacity of 18 kW has experienced overload due to population growth and increasing household electronic needs. The aim of the research is to determine the potential of PLTMH in Gunung Halu, develop ways to optimize PLTMH to provide the community's electricity needs and optimize PLTMH as an alternative option for TNI training areas. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method which is carried out in depth so that it is supported by literature studies and then combined with field observation data, interviews and documentation. The research results show that the PLTMH that can be optimized on Gunung Halu is 30 kW by optimizing turbine efficiency and considering changes in height differences according to the characteristics of the area. In conclusion, it was found that optimizing the PLTMH is important to provide adequate electrical energy and support TNI training so that it hopes to become sustainable energy and a practical solution to increase local energy independence and support national defense.

Mechanochemical degradation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances in soil using an industrial-scale horizontal ball mill with comparisons of key operational metrics

Horizontal ball mills (HBMs) have been proven capable of remediating per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in soil. Industrial-sized HBMs, which could easily be transported to impacted locations for on-site, ex-situ remediation, are readily available. This study examined PFAS degradation using an industrial-scale, 267 L cylinder HBM. This is the typical scale used in the industry before field application. Near-complete destruction of 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonate (6:2 FTS), as well as the non-target PFAS in a modern fluorotelomer-based aqueous film forming foam (AFFF), was achieved when spiked onto nepheline syenite sand (NSS) and using potassium hydroxide (KOH) as a co-milling reagent. Perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) showed much better and more consistent results with scale-up regardless of KOH. Perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) was examined for the first time using a HBM and behaved similarly to PFOS. Highly challenging field soils from a former firefighting training area (FFTA) were purposefully used to test the limits of the HBM. To quantify the effectiveness, free fluoride analysis was used; changes between unmilled and milled soil were measured up to 7.8 mg/kg, which is the equivalent of 12 mg/kg PFOS. Notably, this does not factor in insoluble fluoride complexes that may form in milled soils, so the actual amount of PFAS destroyed may be higher. Soil health, evaluated through the assessment of key microbial and associated plant health parameters, was not significantly affected as a result of milling, although it was characterized as poor to begin with. Leachability reached 100 % in milled soil with KOH, but already ranged from 81 to 96 % in unmilled soil. A limited assessment of the hazards associated with the inhalation of PFAS-impacted dust from ball-milling, as well as the cross-contamination potential to the environment, showed that the risk was low in both cases; however, precautions should always be taken.

Red deer responses to drive hunts are related to habitat and landscape characteristics

AbstractHunting triggers behavioral responses in wildlife that may have important consequences for conservation and wildlife management. We studied movement and habitat selection in 51 global positioning system‐collared red deer (Cervus elaphus) in response to 63 large‐scale (x̄ = 18.8 km2) drive hunts conducted in 2015‐2022 on a military training area in southern Germany. The drive hunts were characterized by a low density of beaters and dogs to avoid rapid and long‐distance displacement of red deer. We determined if red deer spatial responses to drive hunts differed in various forest covers, between sexes, and in relation to the individual position prior to the hunt. On the hunting days, red deer increased their hourly displacement rates and shifted their preference for forest versus open habitats from early morning to late morning hours. Individuals initially located within the boundaries of the hunted areas exhibited longer maximum net displacements, had a greater probability of leaving their home ranges, and spent longer times outside of their home ranges than individuals outside the hunted areas. All these parameters were greater in the more forested site than in the less forested site. Males displayed shorter net displacements than females. Red deer moved away (i.e., fled) from their initial positions for variable periods, either only during the hunt or until the next day. The probability of prolonged flight was greater in the more forested site and more likely if the individuals were deeper in the forest in the less forested site. The prolonged flight behavior was desired from the hunters' perspective because red deer displaying this type of response were less likely to leave the hunted area during the hunt. Prolonged flight was associated with greater costs for the red deer, such as greater movement distances after the hunt and longer times outside of home ranges. Wildlife managers should consider that drive hunts may cause prolonged behavioral responses in game that occur both inside and outside the hunted areas. These responses depend on habitat characteristics and may be stronger in more forested landscapes.

The role of autonomous learning in the study of grammar by economics and foreign language students (pedagogical profile with two areas of training)

Currently, an integral part of the learning process is the development and honing of the skills of competent use of a foreign language – the most important criterion in any field. The sphere of economics and pedagogy is no exception, because specialists in the presented direction should formulate thoughts succinctly, both in written and oral forms. In pedagogical science, there is a search for effective means to improve grammatical skills and abilities. In this paper, the authors present autonomous learning as an effective tool in the study of grammar, which implies that students should have the opportunity to learn the rules themselves and consolidate them in practice. Autonomous learning implies the improvement of self-regulation and critical thinking, which, in turn, is extremely important in possible non-standard situations that may arise in the course of professional activity. The limitless possibilities of autonomous learning are various online resources, interactive tasks, audio and video materials, electronic literature, grammar exercises. It is thanks to such aspects that students enrich their vocabulary, as well as significantly improve their pronunciation and text construction skills. The aim of the work is to reveal the specifics of the format of autonomous learning by students of the direction "Economics and foreign language" in the study of grammar. The object of the study is the field of formation of autonomous learning skills in the study of grammar. The subject of the study is the introduction of M. Schmitt’s autonomous model "Integrated Learning" in the process of studying grammar of students in the specialties "Economics and foreign language". The scientific novelty of this research is expressed in the creation of its own autonomous learning model and its components. The practical significance of the work is in the possible application of the proposed exercises in autonomous learning by students of the specialization under study. The results of this study will contribute to the field of linguodidactics, as well as attract the attention of teachers, students and all interested parties to innovative approaches in teaching grammar. In addition, the findings allow us to identify effective strategies for autonomous learning that can be used in teaching practice in any field.

Population Health Management: Leveraging it for Better Patient Outcome’s

Purpose: The primary aim is to investigate how IT integration within PHM frameworks significantly improves patient care by enabling proactive health interventions and fostering a comprehensive understanding of population health trends.
 Methodology: Utilizing a mixed-method approach, the study evaluates various IT tools and technologies ranging from EHRs to AI-driven analytics within PHM contexts. The research methodology includes data analysis through Python’s scikit-learn and pandas libraries, emphasizing model training, evaluation, and application areas in real healthcare settings.
 Findings: Results indicate that IT advancements, particularly EHRs, telehealth, and AI predictive analytics, markedly enhance the effectiveness of PHM. Key outcomes include improved chronic disease management, more effective preventive healthcare measures, and heightened patient engagement. Moreover, IT facilitates optimal resource allocation and operational efficiency within healthcare systems.
 Unique Contribution to Theory, Policy, and Practice: This study contributes to healthcare literature by providing empirical evidence on the transformative role of IT in PHM. It offers a theoretical framework for integrating IT solutions in healthcare strategies, informing policy by highlighting the necessity for interoperability standards, and suggesting practical guidelines for healthcare practitioners to implement technology-driven PHM effectively.

Overview of Tanjung Semeti Training Area on The VFR Corridor Path

Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport serves daily training flights and has a training area determined in the "Tanjung Semeti Area" where the location is also the same with the “Tanjung Semeti” checkpoint on the VFR Corridor. The purpose of this research is to review Tanjung Semeti training area to the VFR corridor path and seek solutions from potential safety risks (hazard) in that area. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation. The results of the study revealed that the same location causes VFR flight that passes through VFR corridor overlap with the training flight in the training area causing a potential safety risk for both flights. In an effort to be free from potential flight safety risks, by creating a training area at Tanjung Penggeroh or by optimizing the airspace of Sumbawa as a location for a training area will ensure the safety, efficiency and regularity of air traffic in the airspace of Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport.

Serious Games in Medical Education: What it Adds? How to Go about It?

ABSTRACT Medical educators have adopted a number of teaching–learning methodologies to make their sessions interactive considering the need for active engagement of students to strengthen the process of learning. One among them is the use of serious games, wherein digital applications are used to enable the attainment of the intended learning objectives. A wide range of serious games can be designed to target different areas in healthcare training, which cumulatively provide a holistic and engaging approach for students to acquire knowledge and develop skills. Owing to the extensive areas and domains in medical education wherein we can use serious games, the benefits attributed to them are immense. The successful introduction of serious games into the medical curriculum depends on several factors and we must adopt a systematic approach to optimize the benefits. In conclusion, the introduction of serious games into medical education can benefit medical students by helping them master multiple skills required for successful clinical practice. Acknowledging the changing landscapes in medical education, there is an immense need that teachers and administrators to explore the possibility of integrating these games into medical schools.

Identification of Hazards and Risk Assessment in the Workplace of PT. Nusantara Traisser Site PT. Vale Indonesia Sorowako, South Sulawesi

The mining industry has a high risk of accidents, thereby prioritizing the understanding of safety and occupational health aspects. This research discusses the potential hazards and risk values for each work area of Nusantara Traisser Ltd. at the site of Vale Indonesia Pte Ltd. in 2023. Potential hazards came from field observations, and risk assessments were conducted by analyzing the probability, exposure, and consequence values of each identified hazard. These values were then adjusted according to the semi-quantitative risk level standards of William T. Fine. This research employed an observational approach using the AS/NZS 4360:2004 method for risk management. The results of the study indicated that the total number of potential hazards identified in the four work areas was 11, each with its respective risk value. The highest risk level reached 300, classified as priority 1, involving the hazard of mining traffic in the Anoa North Ground Training area (Mines HSOR Department) and the Enggano Coal and Sulfur Storage area. The recommended risk controls for each work area include elimination, engineering control, administration, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Selection of Dental Implants and Restorations Among Dentists in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional, Questionnaire-Based Survey.

Background Dental implants play a crucial role in modern dentistry, offering a durable and aesthetic option for tooth replacement. Understanding the preferences and practices of dentists regarding implant selection and restoration can provide critical insights into current trends and potential areas for improvement. As such, the objective of this study was to discover characteristics determining the selection criteria and preferences for dental implants and restorations among Saudi Arabian dentists. Methodology A cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey was conducted among Saudi Arabian dentists to assess their practices and preferences for dental implant selection and restoration. The survey explored variables, including age, gender, educational status, regional practice distribution, implant-related experience, loading protocols, and implant system preferences. Results A total of 742 dental professionals responded to our questionnaire. The study revealed that a significant majority of Saudi Arabian dentists had placed (78.7%) and restored (72.9%) implants. Most dentists (78.6%) had participated in implant treatment planning. However, consistent usage of implant planning software was relatively low (29.8%). Loading protocol preferences varied, with early loading favored for anterior teeth and immediate loading for posterior teeth and edentulous patients. The main deterrents to immediate loading were patient type (27.0%), lack of training (19.9%), additional surgeries (19.9%), and administrative restrictions (17.8%). Straumann was the most preferred implant system, with aesthetic outcomes considered the most important factor in system selection. Conclusions The study provides a comprehensive overview of dental implant practices among Saudi Arabian dentists. It highlights a strong emphasis on aesthetic outcomes, a diverse approach to loading protocols, and room for increased usage of implant planning software. The findings suggest potential areas for further training and support, particularly in the use of immediate loading and implant planning software.

The data of an empirical study obtained on the basis of a survey of 120 students of Balashov Institute of Saratov State University enrolled in the areas of training of bachelors which are in the enlarged group of areas and specialities ‘Education and Pedagogical Sciences’ are presented. In the course of an empirical study, an author's questionnaire was applied aimed at identifying students' awareness of mentoring as one of the types of mentoring activities in the pedagogical field. The following has been found. Students are aware of the role of mentoring in the pedagogical process to varying degrees. The vast majority of students would like to expand the experience of mentoring interaction. Students consider responsibility, pedagogical competence, free communication skills, pedagogical tact, the perception of the equivalence of students, organizational skills, flexibility of thinking and self-acceptance as the most important characteristics of ‘mentoring’. It is concluded that students’ ideas of mentoring are divided into four types: ‘realistic-positive’, ‘ignorant-optimistic’, ‘ignorant-cautious’, ‘realistic-indifferent’. The data obtained indicate an insufficiently complete understanding of students about the role of mentoring in the pedagogical process. The necessity of developing and introducing into the educational process of universities a practice-oriented programme that reveals the essence of mentoring in the format of additional education courses is emphasized.

Habitat changes explain shifts in bird community composition in abandoned military training areas: Lessons for conservation

Military training areas are important biodiversity refuges and may serve as viable components of regional conservation networks, mainly due to the blocking of ecological succession by the disturbance regime creating a heterogeneous open habitat mosaic hosting many threatened species. However, European armies have undergone downsizing over the past decades and numerous military training areas have been abandoned. The assessment of the consequences of this abandonment for biodiversity would show us whether these abandoned areas still provide conservation benefits. For this purpose, we carried out bird surveys in 30 abandoned military training areas in Czechia. The surveys were performed in two periods (2009 and 2020–2021) to track small-scale changes in land cover and bird abundance after the areas were abandoned in the 1990s. We tested (i) whether changes in bird abundance were related to land cover changes and (ii) whether the observed bird species’ responses to the land cover changes can be explained by species-specific characteristics. Multivariate spatial analyses uncovered significant shifts in land cover composition towards a higher representation of dense shrub, forest and built-up areas at the expense of open areas represented by grassland and sparse shrub. These land cover changes explained a small but significant part of bird abundance variation across the areas. Correspondingly, species benefiting from these land cover changes were associated with dense scrub or forest, such as the Common Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, or Eurasian Blackcap, whereas species suffering from these changes were associated with grassland, such as the European Stonechat and Eurasian Skylark. Phylogenetically informed interspecific analysis aiming to explain changes in bird abundance between periods confirmed that population declines were linked to open habitat preference, while population increases were linked to the preference for dense shrub and forest. In addition, we found that protected species increased their abundance, most likely due to the existence of conservation management that kept their habitats available. These patterns indicate that military training areas transform toward later successional stages after their abandonment with corresponding changes in bird community composition. However, these changes may not necessarily be negative provided that species of conservation concern enjoy the support of conservation management.

How patients experience respect in healthcare: findings from a qualitative study among multicultural women living with HIV

BackgroundRespect is essential to providing high quality healthcare, particularly for groups that are historically marginalized and stigmatized. While ethical principles taught to health professionals focus on patient autonomy as the object of respect for persons, limited studies explore patients’ views of respect. The purpose of this study was to explore the perspectives of a multiculturally diverse group of low-income women living with HIV (WLH) regarding their experience of respect from their medical physicians.MethodsWe analyzed 57 semi-structured interviews conducted at HIV case management sites in South Florida as part of a larger qualitative study that explored practices facilitating retention and adherence in care. Women were eligible to participate if they identified as African American (n = 28), Hispanic/Latina (n = 22), or Haitian (n = 7). They were asked to describe instances when they were treated with respect by their medical physicians. Interviews were conducted by a fluent research interviewer in either English, Spanish, or Haitian Creole, depending on participant’s language preference. Transcripts were translated, back-translated and reviewed in entirety for any statements or comments about “respect.” After independent coding by 3 investigators, we used a consensual thematic analysis approach to determine themes.ResultsResults from this study grouped into two overarching classifications: respect manifested in physicians’ orientation towards the patient (i.e., interpersonal behaviors in interactions) and respect in medical professionalism (i.e., clinic procedures and practices). Four main themes emerged regarding respect in provider’s orientation towards the patient: being treated as a person, treated as an equal, treated without blame or prejudice, and treated with concern/emotional support. Two main themes emerged regarding respect as evidenced in medical professionalism: physician availability and considerations of privacy.ConclusionsFindings suggest a more robust conception of what ‘respect for persons’ entails in medical ethics for a diverse group of low-income women living with HIV. Findings have implications for broadening areas of focus of future bioethics education, training, and research to include components of interpersonal relationship development, communication, and clinic procedures. We suggest these areas of training may increase respectful medical care experiences and potentially serve to influence persistent and known social and structural determinants of health through provider interactions and health care delivery.
