From academic to media capital: To what extent does the scientific reputation of universities translate into Wikipedia attention?

AbstractUniversities face increasing demands to improve their visibility, public outreach, and online presence. There is a broad consensus that scientific reputation significantly increases the attention universities receive. However, in most cases estimates of scientific reputation are based on composite or weighted indicators and absolute positions in university rankings. In this study, we adopt a more granular approach to assessment of universities' scientific performance using a multidimensional set of indicators from the Leiden Ranking and testing their individual effects on university Wikipedia page views. We distinguish between international and local attention and find a positive association between research performance and Wikipedia attention which holds for regions and linguistic areas. Additional analysis shows that productivity, scientific impact, and international collaboration have a curvilinear effect on universities' Wikipedia attention. This finding suggests that there may be other factors than scientific reputation driving the general public's interest in universities. Our study adds to a growing stream of work which views altmetrics as tools to deepen science–society interactions rather than direct measures of impact and recognition of scientific outputs.

Linguistic forms of radio station promotion

One of the most relevant areas of modern media linguistics is the study of the radio language. Such components of the radio text as the name of the radio station, slogans, refrains, titles of headings and programs can affect the popularity of the media in different ways and contribute to the strengthening of its reputation to varying degrees. The purpose of this study is to characterize the key elements of the radio text that contribute to the promotion at the linguistic level of the brands "Autoradio", radio "Course" and radio "Seeker". The methods of observation, continuous sampling, quantitative and semantic analysis, systematization and comparison of linguistic material are used in the work. It is established that the most significant verbal forms of promotion of the analyzed media brands are the name of the radio and the slogan. The name of the radio allows the listener to correlate the content and the impressions generated, develops stable associations with the radio station. In all three cases, the radio name acts as a strong brand position, reflecting its idea; outside of other speech formulas, it is most often heard on "Autoradio". The slogans serve to reveal the unique concept of each of the radio stations, emphasizing the competitive advantage of each of them; this concept is most clearly revealed in the name and slogans "Autoradio" and radio "Course". The development of the internal image reflected in the verbal logo of the radio station, through the use of language play (primarily polysemy), the use of lexical means emphasizing the exceptional superiority of radio on a certain basis, make the key slogans of media brands unique and effective. In addition to the name of the radio and slogans, the promotion of media brands is facilitated by the use of on-air refrains and the names of categories / programs tied to the name of the radio station, however, such branding potential is not fully used by all auditory media.

(De)Coding Hodgson’s Kiranti Grammars and Verbal Paradigms

This article presents the process, challenges and results of reconstructing hierarchised tables of contents for two grammar sketches written by B.H. Hodgson of the Vayu (1857) and Bahing (1858) languages. The process has involved making sense of the ontological systems used by Hodgson in organising his materials and analyses, and has been complicated by the dual factors of occasionally opaque terminological choices and of inconsistent physical presentation of the materials. The resulting tables of contents, presented in the appendix, make it possible to compare these sketches to others from the same time period and/or linguistic area.

Translator’s “Visibility”: E. Teza and His Translation of Pushkin’s “The Undertaker”

The article deals with the issue of translator’s “visibility” using the translation of Pushkin’s short story “The Undertaker” published by Emilio Teza in the literary journal “Ateneo Veneto” in 1884 as an example. This translation was chosen for two main reasons: firstly, its historical meaning for intercultural relations between Russia and Italy as the first Italian translation of Pushkin’s short story; secondly, its translator – a well-known academician from the late 1800s, whose research concerned different areas of philology, linguistics, and comparative studies, as well as translation. As a result, despite then-predominant domesticating strategies, different elements in the target text reflect Teza’s personality and thus prove his “visibility”. The research started from the scrutiny of the translator’s biography, allowing the contextualization of this translation at a precise moment in Teza’s life. Through the contrastive analysis of the source and the texts several translatologically relevant units were identified. Afterwards, the translation strategies and shifts applied in their rendering into Italian were analysed. The scientific novelty lies in the application of such analysis to a previously unstudied text. The research led to the following conclusions: in the rendering of Russian realia, the target text is characterized by an overall domesticating strategy, typical of late-1800s translations and often correlated to the concept of translator’s “invisibility”. However, the presence of detailed footnotes reflects Teza’s personality as an ethnographer, thus making him “visible”. The presence of Tuscan dialectal forms in the target text hints at the translator’s biography, who in 1884 was living in Pisa. In addition, an example of linguistic interference from Serbian can be seen as a reference to Teza’s multilingualism. Therefore, it was proven that the translator’s personality can become “visible” by thoroughly analyzing linguistic features and translation shifts.

Plants and mental disorders: the case of Catalan linguistic area.

Introduction: Mental disorders are among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide. Despite the disease burden they cause, including significant direct and indirect impacts on individual's health and major social and economic consequences in all countries of the world, it is still one of the most neglected areas of public health. In such a context, the medicinal plants traditionally used to pale these pathologies are presented as a promising tool for future drug development for the management of mental health disorders. The aim of the present study is to analyze the information about plant species used to treat mental disorders in the Catalan linguistic area (CLA) and compare these traditional uses with pharmacological literature in order to evaluate the most quoted taxa and their uses and to provide a basis for further research. Methods: Data have been recovered from the "Etnobotànica dels Països Catalans" webpage (https://etnobotanica.iec.cat/) and the meta-analytic work carried out in the present study covers 27 prospections performed in different territories between 1990 and 2019. Descriptive statistics and quantitative ethnobotany were carried out and some ethnobotanical indices were calculated. Results and Discussion: The number of use reports analysed to treat mental disorders in CLA is 2,544 spread over 183 taxa belonging to 64 families, being the most cited the Malvaceae (29.36% of use reports), Lamiaceae (16.71%), Caprifoliaceae (7.94%), Rutaceae (7.47%) and Papaveraceae (6.01%). The most used taxa to treat or alleviate the mental disorders have been Tilia platyphyllos Scop. (24.53%), Valeriana officinalis L. (7.47%), Salvia officinalis L. (5.07%), Sambucus nigra L. (4.28%), and Ruta chalepensis L. (3.89%). The flowers or inflorescences (47.68%), followed by aerial part (23.49%), have been the most used plant parts, and tisane the most commonly used pharmaceutical form (78.03%). The most reported use is as sedative with 40.92%, followed by anticephalalgic (21. 19%) and tranquilizer (20.01%). The informant consensus factor (FIC) was 0.93, and 3.72% was the ethnobotanicity index (EI) value. The information is coincidental with at least one of the comprehensive pharmacological literature sources checked for 73.68% of ethnobotanical uses.

Preverbal clitic clusters in the Tanzanian Rift Valley revisited

Abstract This paper examines preverbal clitic clusters in the Tanzanian Rift Valley, an area of high linguistic diversity with representatives of the Bantu, Cushitic, and Nilotic families, as well as Sandawe (possibly a distant member of the Khoi-Kwadi family), and the language isolate Hadza. An earlier work (Kießling, Roland, Maarten Mous & Derek Nurse. 2008. The Tanzanian Rift Valley area. In Bernd Heine & Derek Nurse (eds.), A linguistic geography of Africa, 186–227. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press) identified preverbal clitic clusters as a widespread feature across many languages of the Rift Valley, and posited the preverbal clitic cluster as a feature characteristic of a ‘Tanzanian Rift Valley Area’. The current paper provides further detail on preverbal clitic clusters across the languages of the region and examines possible routes of development for these structures. From this analysis, the picture that emerges is complex: contact scenarios cannot be restricted to ones in which West Rift Cushitic or its predecessor languages are the only models for the development of a preverbal clitic cluster and, in the case of Sandawe (and perhaps the Datooga varieties), it appears as if the development of a preverbal clitic cluster cannot be linked to contact at all. In terms of what this means for the ‘areality’ of the Tanzanian Rift Valley, this paper forgoes discussions about geographical delineation or arguments for or against a ‘Tanzanian Rift Valley Area’ in favour of highlighting the individual historical events (c.f. Campbell, Lyle. 2017. Why is it so hard to define a linguistic area? In Raymond Hickey (ed.), The Cambridge handbook of areal linguistics, 19–39. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press) that may have given rise to preverbal clitic clusters in the languages of our sample, as well as encouraging continued investigation into the nature of these histories, both from a linguistic and interdisciplinary perspective.

Kaduwa, humor and language policing: Memes and folk linguistics in Sri Lanka

This article takes the position that knowledge and opinions about language and the intersections between language and society don’t belong merely to the academic world but also are alive in, and activated by, the community. It considers Internet memes as folklore, and memes about languages in Sri Lanka and the English language in particular as expressions of folk linguistics — the field that investigates what non-linguists know and feel about language topics and any area of linguistics that non-specialist folk engage with — since everyone has an opinion about language in general or about particular languages and how languages should be used. Such attitudes can privilege some varieties and/or accents and languages over others, sustaining and re-creating power structures. Therefore, this article, drawing on the theoretical lens of Folk linguistics and Language Ideology, and taking the position that memes posted on the Internet depict grassroots level prescriptivist views about language, uses discourse analysis to examine a corpus of memes published on the social media platforms Facebook and Twitter between 2018 and 2022 in order to reassess the complexities and tensions as well as attitudes towards English in Sri Lanka. It was found that while old divisions related to English still exist and attitudes toward English are still complex and contradictory, there are more nuanced and complex views related to the learning of and speaking English in Sri Lanka.

Paremiological comparative studies are a relevant area of modern linguistics, since the corpus of paroemiae of a particular language reflects the peculiarities of the worldview of an ethnos, its value guidelines, established social connections, prohibitions, priorities, and traditions. In this regard, it seems interesting to compare the language signs and the meanings behind them, which coincide in two different Chinese and Russian linguistic cultures. The similarity that underlies our comparison is due to universal human values, the foundations of traditional society and the biological nature of family relationships. The result of the study was the recording of eleven coinciding meanings of paroemiae about a woman: daughter as a beloved female child; daughter as an extra mouth in the family; daughter as a potential member of another family; daughter as a family member opposed to daughter-in-law; qualitative description of a bad wife; qualitative description of a good wife; wife-partner; tradition of wife beating; mother as the basis for the life and upbringing of a child; mother as a bearer of love; opposition of mother and stepmother. The study can be continued by identifying and describing means of expressing these meanings in Chinese and Russian paroemiae about a woman. A separate aspect of the comparative analysis can be identification of divergent meanings in paroemiae about women, which we understand as a fixation of gender norms of traditional society.

Correlation, Collocation and Signification in Kurdish Language

This paper deals with tagged (The synergistic, complementary and coding in the indication of the Kurdish language); two parts or two important chapters and two basic language connotation and trading science Pragmatism in language. One of them correlation deals with the meaning of a word or term for a word or other term and it means the partnership with one word to another, which is inherent to it, according to the place and nature of social relations and the inherited customs and traditions, how to form an accompaniment between those two words and similarities. The difference and cross-comparison with the topics of inclusion and all with each other are within semantics. As for the second chapter, we refer to the subject of symbol and coding in language and its economic feasibility and intellectual on the language of the individual and what are the opinions and trends about the symbol in the connotation of the Kurdish language. It is almost the language of the times in living languages, especially developed languages and advanced on others. The subject of the symbol is one of the important topics that occupies a large area in linguistics and what is there is no doubt that since the ancient man used the symbol in various fields. We conclude the search with a table of common symbols between the languages of the world and the results of the most important things that we have come to this search with a list of sources that were used in writing this research.

Evolution of Scientific Views on the Role of the Language Science in Legal Technique (Case Study of Journal "Legal Technique")

The article considers the problem of interaction between jurisprudence and linguistics within their common branch of knowledge– legal technique, the principles of which are used by the legislative and law enforcement authorities of the Russian Federation in order to create and develop legal documents. The relevance of the topic is due to the need to draw the attention of scientists and lawyers to the role of linguistic knowledge in the development of the science of law and law enforcement. This topic is of particular importance in modern conditions, when the legislative sphere is forced to respond quickly to changes in the social and political situation in the country and the world. The material of the study was obtained from the works of leading legal scholars and practicing lawyers published in the "Legal Technique" journal, which is issued by the Nizhny Novgorod Research Scientific Center under the auspices of the Nizhny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The analysis showed that the dynamics of the interaction of linguistics and legal technique indicates an increase in employment by lawyers of the achievements of different areas of linguistics: communication theory, psycholinguistics, textual criticism, applied and mathematical linguistics, which contributes to the development of their ideas about the role of language in their professional activities.

UZBEK AND ENGLISH LEGAL TERMS AND THEIR SPECIFIC LANGUAGE PROPERTIES IN LINGUISTICS

The importance of studying Terminology in the modern world is undeniable, since Terminology is, on the one hand, a link between various fields of knowledge, and on the other hand, it contributes to a clear distinction between concepts. In connection with the rapid scientific and technological progress, it seems necessary to pay due attention to the terminological apparatus of various sciences. Terminology does not stand still, it is constantly evolving, expanding its boundaries. It is studied by both linguists and terminologists -representatives of the relevant fields of science and technology. The terminology of various sciencesis characterized by some common features. At the same time, each scientific terminology related to a particular field of knowledge has its own special features. Legal terminology is of particular interest in this regard; its study allows us to reveal the specifics of this terminological system. Terminological systems are very diverse and far from homogeneous in the nature of the concepts denoted in them. The study of each particular industry terminology system gives rise to new questions. Thus, when studying terminological systems related to those areas of knowledge where it is necessary to designate such categories of concepts as actions and processes, the question arises about the possibility of using verbal lexemes and phrases in the terminological function. Legal terminology is one of the most important areas of Linguistics which requires from researchers and linguists a lot of attempt to discover linguistic features of legal words. The relevance of the topic of the undertaken research is determined by the fact that legal terminology is rightfully considered one of the most significant industry term systems. It should be noted that the terminology of law is widely used not only in the professional environment, but also in other areas of language communication, so there is a great demand for learning the language of law for special purposes. Legal terminology is a unique object of study, as it is characterized by a wide variety of areas of application compared to other terminological systems. In this article, I collect and study some legal terms from the useful sources and analyze from the linguistic point of view.

Split Inalienable Coding in linguistic Wallacea: typology, origins, spread

AbstractThis paper is a typological survey of inalienable possessive constructions in the linguistic area of Wallacea and its surrounds. In a sample of 189 Austronesian and non-Austronesian languages, 13 have a phenomenon not previously recognised in the theoretical or typological literature: Split Inalienable Coding (SIC), whereby a language has two or more possessive coding strategies that are closely or exclusively associated with expressing inalienable possession. This paper focusses on semantically conditioned splits, where minimally one strategy encodes the possession of body parts, and another the possession of kin terms. Geographically, all of the sampled languages with semantic SIC are located in Wallacea; special attention is therefore given to the development of split inalienables in this region. In most of these languages, SIC has developed very recently. I argue that there have been multiple causes of SIC: Austronesian languages are predisposed to develop SIC, due to the inheritance of a structurally defined class of kin terms that favours the distinction; and contact has also played a role in Northwest New Guinea, with SIC diffusing both across and within genealogical groupings.

Polyfunctionality of ‘Give’ in Hui Varieties of Chinese: A Typological and Areal Perspective

The morpheme ‘give’ is among the most well-studied lexical items in the realm of grammaticalization. This study sets out to provide a typological and areal analysis of the distinct forms and multiple functions of ‘give’ in 27 varieties of Hui Chinese, a lesser-known group of Sinitic languages. Making use of both primary and secondary data, we have identified ten different functions of GIVE, namely (i) lexical verb ‘give’, (ii) recipient marker ‘to’, (iii) benefactive marker ‘for’, (iv) purpose marker, (v) permissive marker, (vi) passive marker, (vii) pretransitive disposal marker, (viii) allative marker, (ix) locative marker ‘at/in’, and (x) temporal marker ‘till’. The Hui varieties covered in this study generally showcase the syncretism of a minimum of five of the functions above simultaneously. Semantic extension, polygrammaticalization, and cooptation are shown to be the major mechanisms behind the polyfunctionality or polysemy sharing of the morpheme ‘give’. Our study contributes to the understanding of the role that grammaticalization, especially contact-induced grammaticalization, plays in forming linguistic areas. In addition, it casts doubt on the basicness of ‘give’ in assessing the genetic relatedness of languages in the world.

STYLISTIC FEATURES OF ENGLISH-LANGUAGE LINGUISTIC ABSTRACTS: A CORPUS-BASED STUDY

While the genre of research abstract has recently gained much attention in the field of English for Academic Purposes, there is an acute need for more profound research into its ever-changing stylistic conventions, particularly in the area of linguistics. The purpose of the present study was to determine the stylistic features of modern Englishlanguage abstracts based on a corpus of 300 abstracts from leading journals in the field of linguistics, published in 2020 to 2023. The methodology integrated corpus methods (frequency and collocation analysis) with qualitative methods (contextual and pragmatic analysis) to determine the rhetorical and communicative strategies correlating with the identified linguistic devices. Relying on previous relevant studies, we primarily focused on the grammar categories of tense and voice. It was found out that present tense is predominant in the sample, though quite often authors choose to alternate tenses within one abstract, restricting past tense to the description of methodology and results. In these sections, it is also more common for authors to shift to passive voice, while the introduction, conclusion and implications are written mostly in active voice. Abstracts written entirely in passive voice are extremely rare in our corpus, which has important pedagogical implications. Also, we revealed that linguists are prone to non-personal use of active voice via self-referential nominals such as the study investigates, the results show. Thus, they diminish their own agency as researchers and reinforce the impression of scientific objectivity. Another stylistic aspect that we addressed is referring to previous research in the field. While it is mostly associated with the opening rhetorical move (introduction/background), we demonstrate that authors frequently refer to other studies in the field in later stages of an abstract to situate their research within the global landscape. It is becoming common for linguists to indicate in the abstract the studies they have drawn upon and the studies that their outcomes agree or disagree with. This finding should also be taken into consideration in English academic writing courses for researchers in linguistics.

Computational Linguistics: A Research Survey on Ambiguity and Anaphora Resolution

In this paper we briefly discuss main areas of computational linguistics particularly focus on the problem of ambiguity in computational linguistics. Then we take up the issue of ambiguity with inclusion of term anaphora which is well known in most of the languages and it is seen under pronouns specifically reflexives and reciprocals. In general, we have total five sections in this paper. First section primarily deals with introduction related to the topic and elaborates it in detail. Second section defines ambiguity with its background investigations in relation with computational linguistics. Third section presents detailed study on anaphoric ambiguity with strict sloppy readings at syntax level. Fourth section discusses about anaphora and soon it adds anaphora resolution irrespective of any specific language and most of the work related to anaphora resolution is mentioned from natural language processing point of view. Fifth is the last section where we conclude that ambiguity and anaphora both are difficult tasks for machine translation until unless we don’t train machine (computer) to learn as per given instructions and all.

A Preliminary Tentative Comparison of the Structures of Some Chadian Languages with English

This paper examines the structural similarities between English and Chadian languages. Chad is a country in Sub Sahara Africa that exhibits a linguistic heterogeneous situation. The estimate of the number of indigenous languages and dialects spoken in Chad is 180. Thus, the languages chosen for the purpose of this study are Ngambay, Mundand, Musey, Tupuri, and Chadian Arabic. It should be noted that all these languages are not only spoken, but they are also written and used for literary education. In addition, English is a foreign language. It is taught as a subject in secondary schools and as a course at universities. French and Arabic are official languages. So, Chadian students studying English therefore have a complex linguistic background. A case in point concerns students of the Higher Teachers’ Training School in N’Djamena. This paper therefore is an attempt to compare the structure of English with the students’ mother tongues in written production. The Chadian National Alphabet has been used for the transcription of the students’ indigenous languages. The Contrastive Analysis theory has also been adopted to compare the structures of these languages. In a linguistically multi-setting like Chad, it is important to attempt to bring languages closer in order to identify the differences and similarities between them from the point of view of their structures, and problematic linguistic areas that prevent students from learning English successfully. But it is found that students’ mother tongues do not pose any problem, in contrast to French language that has been used in education.

Rhetorical Moves of Introduction Sections in English Linguistics Research Articles From Two Non-Scopus and Two Scopus Journals

As the leading section in a research article (RA), the introduction typically leaves a lasting impression on the reader. It is thus necessary to make a well-crafted and organized introduction in the writing of successful RAs. However, a lack of studies has paid attention to the rhetorical moves in the non-Scopus and Scopus RA introductions in the linguistics area. Therefore, the present study first investigated the realization and essentiality of moves and steps of introductions from both corpora, and then it delved into the relationships of distributions of moves and steps of these two sources. A total of 100 English linguistics RA introductions were selected in this study. The non-Scopus and Scopus corpus each included 50 RA introductions taken from two journals. Based on the adapted Swales’ (1990) Create-A-Research-Space (CARS) model and Rasmeenin’s (2006) rationale, the analysis of the identification and essentiality of moves was conducted. The findings revealed that Move 3 Step 5 was a novel step used in both corpora. Besides, though there were no statistically significant relationships in the essentiality rate of moves and steps between the two corpora, divergence did exist in the essentiality categorization of Move 1, Move 3, Move 1 Step 3, Move 2 Step 1B and Move 3 Step 1A. The results of this study highlight the rhetorical convention and the essentiality of moves and steps in the common non-Scopus journals and the prestigious Scopus journals, providing a template for writers in constructing crafted introductions and getting them published in Scopus journals.

DIALECT PHRASEOLOGICAL DICTIONARIES IN THE CONTEXT OF LEXICOGRAPHY AND PHRASEOGRAPHY

The article is devoted to one of the rather young, but already formed and currently the most popular areas of modern linguistics — dialect phraseography. Against the backdrop of undying interest in sustainable turns of folk speech and their fixation, paying attention to general and particular problems of dialect phraseography, in particular to the problem of creating and typologization of dialect phraseological dictionaries seems to be extremely relevant. The purpose of the article is to review publications on dialect phraseological dictionaries’ creating and typologization, systematization of scientific achievements in contemporary linguistics and highlighting the further prospects in the field of Ukrainian dialect phraseography. The objects of the study are the most significant publications devoted to the problems of phraseography: typologization; the subjects are the problems of creating and typologization of dialect phraseological dictionaries. The work uses both general scientific methods — induction, deduction, analysis, synthesis, and proper linguistic ones — mainly a descriptive method. The scientific novelty of the study is due to the fact that in this work, for the first time in domestic linguistics, an attempt was made to analyze and generalize the problems of creation and typologization of dialect phraseological dictionaries. The theoretical and practical value consists in attracting attention to the dialect phraseography as the most interesting and promising direction, as well as in the using of the obtained results in the further studying general and specific problems of dialect phraseography, lexicography and regional researches. Conclusions and prospects of the study. Based on the given data, the author concludes: dialect phraseography is an actual direction of contemporary linguistics, the rapid development of which is taking place against the background of fundamental achievements and basic principles of general lexicography and phraseography. The creation of dialect phraseological dictionaries is carried out with mandatory consideration of the components of the dictionaries’ typology — content, formal, functional, which determine their macro-, micro- and mediastructure

CHARACTERISTICS OF KAZAKHSTAN IDEOLOGICAL DISCOURSE IN THE PANDEMIC

Ideological discourse refers to the new areas of linguistics that have been studied recently. This problem has been sufficiently investigated by foreign scientists, but as we see, it has not become an object of special study in the works of Kazakhstani scientists.The purpose of the scientific work is to analyze the nature of ideological discourse during the pandemic. To this end, the article examines the role of Kazakhstan's ideological discourse during the pandemic, its form, and distribution channels. During the scientific work, the authors applied the following research methods: the method of discourse analysis (analysis of texts constructed for ideological purposes, with extralinguistic factors in a communicative situation) and linguistic analysis of the text of ideological content as a product of ideological discourse. During the research, the following features peculiar to the Kazakh ideological discourse during the pandemic were identified: 1) updated genres of Kazakh oral literature, including conspiracy songs "badik zhyr", which is proved by the analysis of conspiracy songs of this period); 2) the dissemination of ideological discourse was carried out mainly through the media (TV channel, newspaper, magazine) and the Internet; 3) forms of dissemination were mainly of the nature of various videos on social networks, sound recordings, mixed format recordings, etc.; 4) it was noticed that due to the restriction of direct communication, people had a feeling of loneliness, so the participants of the discourse preferred artistic discourse (including poetry); 5) it was determined that in accordance by the goal of protecting and saving the population from the disease, the discursive strategy of the authorities changed; 6) alternative metaphors of the coronavirus appeared: taz tazhal, kesel, zhaman auru, aty oshkir auru, zhaman virus, tazhal.The scientific value of the article is associated with the separation of ideological discourse from political discourse as a separate type of discourse, the proof and classification of its specific features, the provision of scientific conclusions following its changes during the pandemic, the practical value is determined by the significance of the analysis of the structural and discursive nature of this discourse for use in such scientific research.
