Environmental and economic regulation involves the influence of governmental and non-governmental bodies on the functioning and development of the national economic system, industries and enterprises through a set of tools and levers of environmental and economic orientation. It is well-proven that for a domestic industrial enterprise at forming of the programs of the ecologically directed investment development it costs to use the tool of the modern planning and design of ecologization of activity and perfection of business processes. For the decision of problem of the ecologically directed improvement of business processes it costs to conduct a design and evaluation of their influence on the results of activity, that allows to define, at what level presently there are an enterprise and what his prospects of development and possibility of improvement of activity. In the article the result of design of the stages of strategy of ecologization of activity of industrial enterprise is presented on the basis of platform of design of «Ramus Modeler» of modern platforms of SADT – diagrams (Structured of analysis and design technique). In the article it is suggested to determine and regulate the basic stages of the program of nature protection investment development on the basis of their design with the use of application of ARIS (Architecture of Integrated Information Systems) package. In the article the result of design of the stages of improvement of nature protection activity of industrial enterprise is presented in the standard of functional design – IDEF0 (Integration Definition for of Function Modeling) of «Ramus Modeler» software. It is well-proven that the context diagram (functional diagram of higher level) and her decoupling got as a result of design give the evident detailed description of the stages of ecologization of activity, and also aim, tasks, expected results and existent resources, mechanisms of management and providing, entrance and initial documentation, responsible persons et al, that allows to set possible defects and bring in necessary changes.

Modelling and Optimisation of the Business Process of Documentary Support of Cargo Transportation for Building a Digital Document Management System

The objective of the work is to analyse the examples of optimisation of documentary support system regarding rail cargo transportation based on the transition to the electronic form of documents.The theoretical concept of modelling the business process of documentary support of cargo transportation is developed using the ARIS (Architecture of Integrated information Systems) software, which is used for development of an integrated process model of the activities of many manufacturing and transportation companies in Russia and in the world [1].The subject of the research is modelling of the document circulation system supporting cargo transportation to eliminate losses in a significant part of the processes of interaction with customers. The objective of business process modelling is to use all the advantages and functionality of case tools to eliminate duplication of actions and operations that do not add value to the customers of the transport company but reduce their loyalty to the products and services of railway transportation. The studied business processes ensure formation of an application for transportation and its transformation during the transportation process.The study reflects the results of modelling business processes for documentary support of transportation in digital form. A comparative analysis of these models is followed by description of the advantages of the electronic documents in comparison with their paper form considering a possibility of using a digital signature.

An Application of a Multi-Criteria Approach for the Development of a Process Reference Model for Supply Chain Operations

Nowadays, there are a plethora of business process modeling tools for use by researchers and practitioners. This paper presents the implementation of a methodological approach for the selection of such a tool in order to construct a process reference model. This reference model will support the development of a distribution system in the context of the supply chain in the phase of the system’s requirements definition, as well as in the final implementation of the system in real-life supply chain operations. The reference model is crucial for the easy and effective adoption of the system into companies’ processes. Therefore, the choice of the modeling tool can strongly support the design, development and implementation of the system. In this context, the application of a multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) was carried out in order to select the appropriate tool, utilizing a combination of the Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE) I method for the decision-making with the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method for the calculation of the weights of the evaluation criteria. The MCDA’s results showed that the Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS) Architect & Designer Tool was the one that better met the evaluation criteria. The sensitivity analysis that followed the MCDA reaffirmed its results by revealing that this tool had the highest consistency, despite the changes in the scenarios.

Структурно-функціональне моделювання фінансової діяльності підприємств на ринку фінансових послуг

In the article the result of design of business processes is presented in methodology of structural-functional design, that allows to conduct procedure of description for further optimization of business processes. In the article possibilities of the use of modern tool of management financial activity lombards are presented on the basis of structural-functional design. The got results and offered stages of structural-functional models allow to promote efficiency of administrative decisions due to the receipt of instrument of evident reflection of the existent state of all processes and stages of management, determination of resources, regulations, tasks and desirable results. The models and offered algorithms of the use of structural-functional design presented in the article allow to guidance of company to regulate and formalize all procedure of management due to the graphic reflection of resources, results, mechanisms of providing and management for the designed process of enterprise at notation of IDEF0 (Integration Definition for of Function Modeling) of methodology of SADT – diagrams, and also sequence of the stages of the designed process of ARIS (Architecture of Integrated Information Systems) for the further estimation of necessary resources. Due to the use of modern tool of design of business processes in notations of «Integration Definition for of Function Modeling – IDEF0» and «Architecture of Integrated Information Systems – ARIS» possibility of receipt of evident picture of current status of business processes appears on an enterprise, and also them further management on the basis of their description, regulation and adjustments.

Modeling of Information Operations Effects: Technological Systems Example

The article outlines conceptual and corresponding formal models of system functioning. Models provide means for estimation of information operation effects and the operational properties of systems and their functioning. Such systems are changed due to information operations. Examples of operational properties are efficiency, the effectiveness of system functioning, system capabilities and system potential. Operational properties are estimated based on functioning effects. Such effects of information operations are manifested through a system functioning under the conditions of a changing environment. An estimation of effects and operational properties is fulfilled analytically. It is made through plotting the dependences of the predicted values of effects and operational properties of information operations and corresponding IT usage against the variables and options of problems solved. To develop this type of model, the use of information operations during system functioning is analyzed through an example of a technological system. General concepts and principles of the modeling of information operations during the operation of such systems are defined. An exemplary modeling of the effects of technological information, and the related technological non-information operations of technological systems operation is provided. Based on concept models of information operations of technological systems, functioning set-theoretical models followed by functional models are introduced. An example of operational properties indicators estimation is considered. It is based on Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS) diagramming tools’ usage. Use cases of such indicators include choosing optimal information operations characteristics.

Process architecture development using Riva and ARIS: comparative study

PurposeBusiness process modeling has been given great attention due to its crucial role in developing computer-based systems that support (and automate) organizational processes. In information systems, building the right process architecture is vital, since a poor division of organizational processes can lead to complex designs or incoherent structure. Moreover, process architecture acts as a “big picture” of what the organization does, and represents dynamic relationships between the existing processes, which, in turn, helps understand how the organization works (Ould, 2005). The paper aims to discuss these issues.Design/methodology/approachThis paper discusses the derivation of a process architecture diagram (PAD) using the Riva method in detail, in contrast to the PAD developed using Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS). The information system selected as an example for this comparative study is in the context of academic libraries, embedding various yet generic library processes.FindingsOrganizational process architecture provides a basis for business management, based on specific framework supported by integrated tools and methods (Kozina, 2006). ARIS and Riva process architecture methods can be used to visualize and document organizational processes. Understanding the merits and weaknesses of each method is essential to identify possible areas of application.Research limitations/implicationsThe processes selected were generic in most academic libraries not taking into consideration special personalized processes. These can be added though.Practical implicationsBoth techniques are feasible and can be used to view and analyze library processes, allowing bridging the gap between theory and practice.Originality/valueA number of process architecture methods are available, however, few studies focused on assessing these methods, and comparing some of them to find out how easy they are to be used in particular contexts, and whether they can be standardized.

Performance and cost evaluation of health information systems using micro-costing and discrete-event simulation.

Innovation and health-care funding reforms have contributed to the deployment of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve patient care. Many health-care organizations considered the application of ICT as a crucial key to enhance health-care management. The purpose of this paper is to provide a methodology to assess the organizational impact of high-level Health Information System (HIS) on patient pathway. We propose an integrated performance evaluation of HIS approach through the combination of formal modeling using the Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS) models, a micro-costing approach for cost evaluation, and a Discrete-Event Simulation (DES) approach. The methodology is applied to the consultation for cancer treatment process. Simulation scenarios are established to conclude about the impact of HIS on patient pathway. We demonstrated that although high level HIS lengthen the consultation, occupation rate of oncologists are lower and quality of service is higher (through the number of available information accessed during the consultation to formulate the diagnostic). The provided method allows also to determine the most cost-effective ICT elements to improve the care process quality while minimizing costs. The methodology is flexible enough to be applied to other health-care systems.

Business process modelling using ARIS: process architecture

PurposeAcademic libraries have witnessed huge changes due to internal and external factors. Recent evidence shows that there is a lack of interest in process analysis within academic libraries. There is a lot written on the need to change academic libraries but there is little analytical research that investigates processes, in terms of the process architecture. The paper aims to discuss this issue.Design/methodology/approachThe modelling tool used is Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS).FindingsARIS can provide a process architecture and design for academic libraries that might raise questions later about procedures and some inefficiencies.Research limitations/implicationsLibrary managers might need to learn new techniques.Originality/valueThere is a lot written on the need to change academic libraries but there is little analytical research that investigates processes, in terms of the process architecture. This research examines business process modelling for academic libraries, focusing on the process architecture, as a way of visualizing, understanding and documenting processes.

Round‐trip iterative business process modelling between BPA and BPMS tools

PurposeThis paper aims to present how iterative round‐trip modelling between two different business process modelling tools can be enabled on a conceptual level. Iterative round‐trip modelling addresses model transformations between high‐level business and executable process models, and how to maintain these transformations in change time. Currently, the development of these process models is supported by different tools. To the authors' best knowledge, no coherent collaborative tool environment exists that supports iterative round‐trip modelling.Design/methodology/approachThis paper is primarily based on a literature review of state‐of‐the‐art business to IT transformations regarding business process modelling. The architecture of integrated information systems (ARIS) and Cordys tools are used as an example case in this research. ARIS is a business process analysis (BPA) tool suited for analyzing and designing business processes, while the execution and monitoring of these processes is allowed by Cordys, a business process management suite (BPMS). The theory is used for transforming between ARIS event‐driven process chains from the business perspective and business process modelling notation in Cordys from the IT perspective.FindingsA conceptual framework is proposed to couple a BPA and BPMS tool for round‐trip business process modelling. The framework utilizes concepts from the model‐driven architecture for structurally addressing interoperability and model transformations. Ensuring iterative development with two tools requires traceability of model transformations.Practical implicationsIn many organizations, BPA and BPMS tools are used for business process modelling. These are in practice often two different worlds, while they concern around the same business processes. Maintaining multiple versions of the same process models across two tools is a considerable task, as they often are subject to design changes. Interoperability between a BPA and BPMS tool will minimize redundant activities, and reduce business to IT deployment time.Originality/valueThis research provides a theoretical base for coupling a BPA and BPMS tool regarding iterative round‐trip modelling. It provides an overview of the current state‐of‐the‐art literature of business process modelling transformations, and what is necessary for maintaining interoperability between tools. The findings indicate what is expected in tool support for iterative development in business process modelling from analysis and design to execution.

An Application of Business Process Method to the Clinical Efficiency of Hospital

The concept of Total Quality Management (TQM) has come to be applied in healthcare over the last few years. The process management category in the Baldrige Health Care Criteria for Performance Excellence model is designed to evaluate the quality of medical services. However, a systematic approach for implementation support is necessary to achieve excellence in the healthcare business process. The Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS) is a business process architecture developed by IDS Scheer AG and has been applied in a variety of industrial application. It starts with a business strategy to identify the core and support processes, and encompasses the whole life-cycle range, from business process design to information system deployment, which is compatible with the concept of healthcare performance excellence criteria. In this research, we apply the basic ARIS framework to optimize the clinical processes of an emergency department in a mid-size hospital with 300 clinical beds while considering the characteristics of the healthcare organization. Implementation of the case is described, and 16months of clinical data are then collected, which are used to study the performance and feasibility of the method. The experience gleaned in this case study can be used a reference for mid-size hospitals with similar business models.

Developing an ARIS-House-Based Method from Existing Information Systems to Project-Based Enterprise Resource Planning for General Contractor

In recent years, general contractors in the construction industry have gradually begun to implement a system called enterprise resource planning (ERP). During the ERP implementation process, contractors performed required analyses on daily operation functions demanded by the enterprise. The analyses focused on function mapping to ensure that ERP satisfies all the requirements, including the functions of existing information systems, and meets future requirements. The process of function mapping in the construction industry typically involves a series of lengthy and time-consuming meetings, and face-to-face discussions; systematic analysis procedure was lacking. This research will propose a novel function mapping approach, the Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS)-house-based (AHB) method, to enhance the effectiveness of meetings and improve the efficiency of discussions. In addition, AHB method will use the structure of ARIS-house diagram to guide the function mapping process, streamline existing information systems, meet future requirements, and successfully implement ERP. Finally, this research will use a case study to verify the effectiveness of the AHB method for contractor to implement ERP.

A framework for BPML assessment and improvement

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to evaluate and improve two popular business process modelling languages (BPMLs) the Integration definition for function modelling (IDEF0) and event‐driven process chain (eEPC).Design/methodology/approachThe paper aims to select, compare and evaluate against a proposed criteria framework two popular BPMLs. In order to meet end‐user requirements, it suggests concrete improvements for either language. Evaluation findings and improvement attempts are documented over a case study within the context of a large European aerospace industry. The languages are applied through the use of appropriate software such as BPWin and Arena Simulation Software for IDEF0 and Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS) Toolset for eEPC.FindingsImproved languages seem to overcome several deficiencies and increase their modelling performance. Improvements in IDEF0 include: classification of component information and insertion of logical operators. In this approach the language describes not only the information flow within the process, but also the time sequences via component discrimination. Improvements in eEPC include event chain diagram in ARIS house of business engineering methodology, which represents the interrelations between functions of different diagrams and the linkages among components and resources to include resources planning.Practical implicationsResults showed that language deficiencies were clarified. Thus, the improvements made, constitute better modelling performance and the development of more reliable models.Originality/valueThe paper outlines a systematic evaluation framework with concrete criteria. Furthermore, the improvements made, are a further step towards increased modelling performance, lean and comprehend diagrams.

A collaborative model for capacity expansion of the IC foundry industry

Collaborative project management is becoming a key means of survival for managing the integrated circuit (IC) foundry business. Starting a new IC foundry fabrication project involves complex organizational collaboration and systems integration. In the past, the lack of adequate theoretical approaches to combine parallel systems has led to poor integration of information and poor communication. This paper presents an object-oriented reference model for helping the project managers and the participants to better manage the collaborative relationship and systems integration during the expansion of new IC fabrication foundries. The tool set of the architecture of integrated information systems (ARIS) is applied to describe the interaction between the organization, events, functions, and the systems flow. An object-oriented analysis approach is used to represent the architecture of the collaborative model. A prototype Web-based platform is constructed to demonstrate the model for the capacity expansion of the IC foundry industry and show the improved communication channel.

Integrated process modeling: An ontological evaluation

Process modeling has gained prominence in the information systems modeling area due to its focus on business processes and its usefulness in such business improvement methodologies as Total Quality Management, Business Process Reengineering, and Workflow Management. However, process modeling techniques are not without their criticisms [13]. This paper proposes and uses the Bunge-Wand-Weber (BWW) representation model to analyze the five views — process, data, function, organization and output — provided in the Architecture of Integrated Information Systems (ARIS) popularized by Scheer [39, 40, 41]. The BWW representation model attempts to provide a theoretical base on which to evaluate and thus contribute to the improvement of information systems modeling techniques. The analysis conducted in this paper prompts some propositions. It confirms that the process view alone is not sufficient to model all the real-world constructs required. Some other symbols or views are needed to overcome these deficiencies. However, even when considering all five views in combination, problems may arise in representing all potentially required business rules, specifying the scope and boundaries of the system under consideration, and employing a “top-down” approach to analysis and design. Further work from this study will involve the operationalization of these propositions and their empirical testing in the field.
