Economic Performance of Balkan Countries

The issue of analyzing the factors of the dynamics of the economic performance of each economy, which means the countries of the Balkans (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Greece and Turkey), Southeastern Europe, is continuously very current, challenging, significant and complex. Adequate control of key factors can have a significant impact on the achievement of the target economic performance of each economy, including the Balkan countries. The application of multi-criteria decision-making methods enables adequate control of the key factors of the economic performance of the economies of the Balkan countries. In terms of economic performance, Serbia is in a better position than Croatia and Slovenia. Kosovo is in the worst economic position. The target economic performance of the countrymen of the Balkans can be achieved by managing inflation, and unemployment, and receiving personal remittances as effectively as possible.

RESEARCH ON THE DYNAMICS OF THE PERFORMANCE POSITIONING OF THE TRADE IN SERBIA USING THE LOPCOW AND EDAS METHODS

Researching the dynamics of the performance positioning of trade is a very challenging, continuously current, significant, and complex issue, especially in the conditions of the application of multi-criteria decision-making methods. Based on that, this paper investigates the dynamics of the performance positioning of trade in Serbia for the period 2017 - 2022 using the LAPCOW and EDAS methods. The results of this research show the following: Serbian trade, according to the obtained results of the research on the dynamics of performance positioning using the LOPCOW-EDAS method, was the best in 2022. The following are 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017. Overall, the performance of trade in Serbia continuously improved. The factors that influenced the improvement of the dynamics of the performance positioning of trade in Serbia are geopolitical situation, economy, inflation, interest rate, employment, standard of living of the population, trade policy and strategy, foreign direct investments, new business models (multichannel sales - store and electronic, private label, sale of organic products, etc.), concept of sustainable development, energy crisis, management of human resources, asset, capital, sales and profit, digitisation of the entire business, and others. The target dynamics of the performance positioning of trade in Serbia can be achieved by effective control of these and other influential factors.

Combined compromise for ideal solution (CoCoFISo): A multi-criteria decision-making based on the CoCoSo method algorithm

Each decision-making tool should be tested and validated in real case studies to be practical and fit to global problems. The application of multi-criteria decision-making methods (MCDM) is currently a trend to rank alternatives. In the literature, there are several multi-criteria decision-making methods according to their classification. During our experimentation on the Combined Compromise Solution (CoCoSo) method, we encountered its limits for real cases. The authors examined the applicability of the CoCoFISo method (improved version of combined compromise solution), by a real case study in a university campus and compared the obtained results to other MCDMs such as Preference Ranking Organisation Method for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE), Weighted Sum Method (WSM) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). Our research finding indicates that CoCoSo is an applied method that has been developed to solve complex multi variable assessment problems, while CoCoFISo can improve the shortages observed in CoCoSo and deliver stable outcomes compared to other developed tools.The findings imply that application of CoCoFISo is suggested to decision makers, experts and researchers while they are facing practical challenges and sensitive questions regarding the utilization of a reliable decision-making method. Unlike many prior studies, the current version of CoCoSo is unique, original and is presented for the first time. Its performance was approved using several strategies and examinations.

Economic Performance of the Economy of Kosovo and Metohija

The problem of analysing the factors of the dynamics of the economic performance of every economy, which means the economy of the southern provinces of Serbia, the economy of Kosovo and Metohija, is continuously very current, challenging, significant, and complex. Adequate control of key factors can significantly influence the achievement of the target economic performance of any economy. The application of multi-criteria decision-making methods enables adequate control of the key factors of the economic performance of each economy. Taking this into account, this paper analyses the dynamics of the economic performance of the economy of Kosovo and Metohija in the period 2013 – 2022 based on the LMAW-DNMA method. In the top five years according to the economic performance of the economy of Kosovo and Metohija according to the LMAW-DNMA methods, it falls in the following order: 2022, 2021, 2019, 2017 and 2018. The worst economic performance of the economy of Kosovo and Metohija was achieved in 2020, partly due to the corona virus pandemic. Recently, the economic performance of the economy of Kosovo has improved significantly and Metohija. Adequate management of the analysed statistical variables (gross domestic product, inflation, agriculture, industry, export, import, capital, income, and taxes) influenced this. Similarly, the economic climate, foreign direct investments, the energy crisis, the digitalisation of the company’s entire operation, and other factors. Their adequate control can greatly influence the achievement of the target economic performance of the economy of Kosovo and Metohija.

APPLICATION OF DIBR AND MAIRCA METHODS IN THE EVALUATION OF THE ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE ECONOMY OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA

The issue of analyzing factors of the dynamics of the economic performance of every economy, including Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), is continuously very current, challenging, significant, and complex. An adequate control of the key factors can significantly influence the achievement of the target economic performance of BiH’s economy. The application of multi-criteria decision-making methods enables an adequate control of the key factors of the economic performance of BiH’s economy. Bearing that in mind, this paper analyzes the dynamics of the economic performance of BiH’s economy in the period 2013 - 2022 based on the DIBR and MAIRCA methods. The top five years of the economic performance of BiH’s economy according to the DIBR and MAIRCA methods fall in the following order: 2021, 2022, 2018, 2019, and 2017. The worst economic performance in BiH’s economy was registered in 2020, which was contributed, among other things, by the Covid-19 pandemic. Generally speaking, the economic performance of BiH’s economy significantly improved recently. This was influenced by adequate management of the analyzed statistical variables (gross domestic product, inflation, agriculture, industry, export, import, capital, income, taxes, time required to start business – days, and domestic loans provided by the financial sector). The factors such as the geopolitical situation, the economic climate, foreign direct investments, the energy crisis, the digitalization of company's entire operation, the application of sustainable development concept and other others are also important. In any case, the adequate control of these variables can greatly influence the achievement of the target economic performance of BiH’s economy.

Application of multi-criteria decision-making method to choose rice harvester in Vietnam

Vietnam’s rice production accounts for a large proportion of rice production in region and the world. The income from rice production accounts for a large proportion of the Country’s total GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Therefore, the investment in machines for rice processing is being interested in this Country. Many types of rice processing machine need to be equipped such as rice harvesters, peelers, separators, etc. In which, the rice harvester is identified as the first type of machine that needs to be equipped for a rice processing line. However, with a large number of rice harvesters available on the market with many different parameters (specifications, selling price) will make it difficult for customers to choose the best rice harvester. In this paper, the selection of rice harvester is carried out using MCDM (Multi-Criteria Decision-Making) method. Five types of rice harvester were offered for ranking, including two drain-type rice harvesters and three bagged-type rice harvesters. Eighteen criteria were used to evaluate each machine type. Those eighteen criteria including: type of machine, length/ width/ height/ and weight of machine, length of the sprocket and width of the sprocket, maximum moving speed of the machine when working in slow-moving mode/ average-moving mode/ and fast-moving mode, ground clearance, cutting jaw width, cutting width, lowest cutting height, the maximum cutting height, the width of rake reel, the container capacity, and cost. To determine the weights for the criteria, three different methods have been applied. FUCA (Faire Un Choix Adéquat) was selected as a multi-criteria decision-making method to rank alternatives. The results identified one best drain-type rice harvester and one best bagged-type rice harvester

Application model of MCDM for selection of automatic rifle

The paper presents a selection of the best automatic rifle of domestic production. The complexity of the problem is conditioned by the different constructional characteristics of automatic rifles, which is why the application of multi-criteria decision-making methods is necessary. The choice of the most favorable alternative was made using the AHP - VIKOR method. By applying the AHP method, the calculation of the weight coefficients of the criteria was performed, while by applying the VIKOR method, the most favorable automatic rifle, was selected. The output is a proposal for the introduction into operational use and equipping of the security forces of the Republic of Serbia.

ANALYSIS OF TRADE PERFORMANCE IN SERBIA BASED ON INTEGRATED METHODS OF MULTI-CRITERIA DECISION-MAKING

Research into the dynamics of trade performance positioning is a very challenging, continuously current, significant, and complex issue, especially in the conditions of integrated application of multi-criteria decision-making methods. Based on that, this paper investigates the dynamics of the performance positioning of trade in Serbia for the period 2013 - 2022 using different methods for determining the weighting coefficients of the criteria (AHP, LMAW, MEREC, DIBR), and the TOPSIS method. The goal of this, among other things, is to assess the impact of evaluation criteria on the dynamics of the performance positioning of trade in Serbia by using the TOPSIS method. In the specific case, therefore, the influence of the different evaluations of the criteria on the results of the ranking of the alternatives according to the TOPSIS method is negligible. In the trade of Serbia, the best results according to all used multi-criteria decision-making methods (AHP-TOPSIS, LMAW-TOPSIS, MEREC-TOPSIS, and DIBR-TOPSIS) were achieved in 2022, and the worst in 2014. They continuously improved from year to year in the observed period results of trade in Serbia. Effective management of key macro and micro factors contributed to this. Taken as a whole, the performance of Serbian trade continuously improved. The factors that influenced the improvement of the dynamics of the performance positioning of trade in Serbia are geopolitical situation, economy, inflation, interest rate, employment, the standard of living of the population, trade policy and strategy, foreign direct investments, new business models (multichannel sales - store and electronic, private label, sale of organic products, etc.), concept of sustainable development, energy crisis, management of human resources, asset, capital, sales and profit, digitization of the entire business, and others. The target dynamics of the performance positioning of trade in Serbia can be achieved by effective control of human resources, assets (investments), capital, sales, profits, labor productivity, and financial indebtedness.

Application of Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Methods in Warehouse: A Brief Review

This review paper investigates the application of various multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods in the context of warehouse management, considering papers published from 2010 to date. Warehouses often face many challenges, including efficient inventory management, space optimization, proper resource allocation, and optimal supplier selection. This paper focuses on several well-known MCDM methods that are often used in the context of warehouse management. Full consistency method (FUCOM), analytic hierarchy process (AHP), the technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS), weighted aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS), criteria importance through intercriteria correlation (CRITIC), measurement of alternatives and ranking according to the compromise solution (MARCOS), best worst method (BMW), evaluation based on distance from average solution (EDAS), correlation coefficient and the standard deviation (CCSD), indifference threshold-based attribute ratio analysis (ITARA), and simple additive weighting (SAW) are some of the methods reviewed in the paper, as well as certain fuzzy versions of the methods. This review paper provides a brief comprehensive overview of the application of these methods in the context of warehouse management. Data collection leads to results that tell us that the methods are mainly used in solving problems during the selection of warehouse location, the selection of warehouse equipment, and also in the management of the warehouse itself and the performance of its management. It has also been seen that the methods are useful even in "green" logistics, as well as in inventory management.

Application of multi-criteria decision-making methods in the selection of additive manufacturing materials for solid ankle foot orthoses

The present study aims to focus on material selection using FDM for solid ankle foot orthoses, a problem that has not been adequately addressed in previous studies. To address this issue, the present case study employs, for the first time, a combination of recently developed and other Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods, including Simple Weighted Sum Product Method (WISP), Measurement Alternatives and Ranking According to Compromise Solution (MARCOS) and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). This study evaluates seven different materials based on eleven carefully selected criteria, which reflect the essential properties required for SAFOs fabrication using FDM. The criteria weights are determined based on the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). The results of above methods reveal that the most suitable material selected for SAFOs is polylactic acid (PLA) followed by nylon and polycarbonate. Additionally, the study examines the rank reversal problem and find that AHP-MARCOS is stable in performance while AHP-WISP and AHP-TOPSIS suffer rank reversal problems. This research provides valuable guidance for material selection in SAFOs fabrication using FDM and is expected to assist researchers and clinicians who may lack the necessary expertise in selecting appropriate materials for SAFOs and analysing their outcomes.

The paper deals with the issue of decision-making (planning phase as a procedural function of management in defence) in the use of units of the Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) in emergencies caused by floods. The basis of the paper is the data obtained on the basis of insight into the documents of the units of the SAF and civilian authorities engaged in the endangered area of the city municipality of Obrenovac during the floods in May 2014. The paper presents an approach to the application of multi-criteria decision-making methods in deciding on the use of units of the SAF in the endangered area. The focus of the paper is on the presentation of an instrument that can be used in the SAF when deciding in the case of choosing a ferry crossing point for crossing the water obstacle for the evacuation of people and material goods. The choice of the ferry crossing point is made in the catchment of the river Sava, ie on one river section. The method used in this paper is a combination of elements of the AHP method and the basic ELECTRE method. By applying the AHP method, it is possible to better rank the alternatives within the ELECTRE method, ie a more stable and reliable solution to the problem is reached. The research question posed in the paper is: "Is there a possibility of applying the method of multi-criteria decision-making when planning the use of units of the SAF?". By applying the combined AHP-ELECTRE method in solving the problem - choosing the ferry crossing point, the results showed that there is a possibility of applying the method of multi-criteria decisionmaking when planning the use of units of the SAF. Also, the paper points out the shortcomings of the application of these methods, primarily due to the partial approach to problem solving.

The issue of analyzing the factors of the dynamics of the economic performance of each economy, which means also the countries of Western Balkan (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia), is continuously very current, challenging, significant and complex. Adequate control of the analyzed economic indicators can have a significant impact on the achievement of the target economic performance of each economy, including the countries of the Western Balkans. The application of multi-criteria decision-making methods enables adequate control of the key factors of the economic performances of the economies of the Western Balkan countries. In this paper, starting from that, the economic performances of the economies of the Western Balkan countries are comparatively analyzed based on the LOPCOW-EDAS method. According to the results of the given research, Serbia is the leading country in the Western Balkans in terms of economic performance. Followed by: Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Albania, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Recently, the economic performance of the Serbian economy has significantly improved. Adequate control of relevant influential factors can greatly influence the achievement of the target economic performance of the Serbian economy. The digitization of the company's entire operations certainly plays a significant role in this.

Underground Mining Method Selection with the Application of TOPSIS Method

Multi-criteria decision-making methods are widely used to solve various problems in the industry, as well as to support the planning and designing industrial processes. Mining is a very complex and responsible activity, so when making a major decision, it is necessary to take into account several parameters and perform their detailed analysis. Due to the importance of proper decision making, multi-criteria optimization methods have a very wide application in mining. One of the most complex and important things in mining is the choice of mining method for underground exploitation, where the application of multi-criteria decision-making methods can help a lot in making the right decision. This paper will present the choice of the method of mining excavation by the TOPSIS method, according to which it was obtained that the Sublevel Caving is optimal for a given case. Application of multi-criteria decision-making methods to identification of soil moisture monitoring sites in an urban catchment in South Australia

When choosing sites for monitoring of soil moisture for hydrological purposes, a suitable process that considers the factors influencing soil moisture level should be followed. In this study, two multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods, the multi-influencing factor (MIF) method and the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method, were used to identify the optimal soil moisture monitoring (SMM) sites in the Dry Creek Catchment in South Australia. The most representative areas for nine SMM sites were obtained using the MIF method, considering the factors of rainfall, soil type, land use, catchment slope, elevation, and upslope accumulated area (UAA). The AHP method was used to select the optimal sites using the site-specific criteria. 30.3% of the catchment area in the Australian Water Resources Assessment Landscape (AWRA-L) Grid_DC2 can be considered acceptable as representative area with the MIF method. Four potential sites were evaluated for each AWRA-L grid using the relative weights of the site-specific criteria with the AHP method. The Grid_DC2 required two sites that had the highest overall weight chosen with the AHP analysis. The procedure was repeated for the remaining four AWRA-L grids within the study area to select the required SMM sites.

Image processing methods decision mechanism for surveillance applications with UAVs

PurposeThe use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has significantly increased in the past decade and nowadays is being used for various purposes such as image processing, cargo transport, archaeology, agriculture, manufacturing, health care, surveillance and inspections. For this reason, using the appropriate image processing method for the intended use of UAVs increases the study’s success. This study aims to determine the most suitable one among the innovative methods that constitute the image processing system for a UAV to be used for surveillance purposes.Design/methodology/approachAnalytical hierarchy process has been used in the solution of the decision problem to be handled in three stages, namely, platform, architecture and method. The most suitable alternative and the effect weights of these criteria results were determined at each stage.FindingsAs a result of this study, Jetson TX2 was determined as the most suitable embedded platform, ResNet is the optimum architecture and Faster R-convolutional neural networks was the best method in the image processing layer for a system that will provide surveillance with image processing method using UAV.Practical implicationsIn UAV designs, where multiple hardware and software choices and system combinations exist, multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches can be used as a system decision mechanism.Originality/valueThe novelty of this work comes from the application of MCDM methods that are used as a multi-layered decision mechanism in UAV design.

Identification of Road Crash Severity Ranking by Integrating the Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Approach

This research aims to provide a novel approach for analysing road crash severity ranking by integrating all injury classified crash types. The road crash data of all Indian states (i.e., Andhrapradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, etc.) for 2019 were incorporated to analyse severity rankings by using multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. Two of these methods – the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) – were applied. The application of MCDM methods easily incorporated the injury classified crash data and provided clear rankings. Further, the correlation analysis of rankings provided by both MCDM methods proved the validity of the proposed research. Therefore, this approach is considered to have great potential to reform conventional severity ranking practices.

Development of framework for ranking pervious concrete pavement mixtures: application of multi-criteria decision-making methods

ABSTRACT The major objective of this study was to evaluate the performance characteristics of control and sand-modified pervious concrete (PC) mixtures through the development of a hybrid multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) tool to rank the materials and recommend the most optimal performing products. A full-factorial experimentation was adopted to analyse porosity, density, permeability, and compressive strength for 36 PC mixtures. A hybrid MCDM tool involving analytical hierarchy process, Entropy, Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), and VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) methods was used to optimize the multi-response problem into a single output. Based on the results, the water-to-cement ratio may be restricted to a maximum of 0.30 and 0.33 for aggregates varying from 9.5 to 6.7 mm and 6.7 to 4.75 mm, respectively. Likewise, the cement-to-aggregate ratio may be restricted to a maximum of 1:3.75 and 1:4.25 for aggregate size in the range 9.5–6.7 mm and 6.7–4.75 mm, respectively. Further, the ranks for various PC mixtures obtained from TOPSIS and VIKOR were identical/ similar for about 80% of the mixtures. The proposed MCDM tools are envisioned to help the decision-makers in selecting the most optimum PC mix based on performance and site-specific requirements, a priori pavement design and construction.
