Digital twin applications for predicting and controlling vibrations in manufacturing systems

In Recent times, Digital Twin (DT) technology has emerged as an innovative tool for the enhancement of the efficiency and reliability of manufacturing systems, through the creation of virtual replicas of physical assets, systems and processes. As vibrations in machines and tools can lead to reduced product quality, increased wear and tear, as well as unplanned downtimes, this article explores the application of digital twins for predicting and controlling vibrations in manufacturing systems. The integration of digital twins assists in addressing these challenges through the provision of insights into vibration dynamics, enabling proactive maintenance, and optimizing system performance. It examines how sensor data and advanced computational models converge to simulate and predict vibration behavior in real time. Moreover, the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in analyzing vibration patterns and prescribing corrective measures is discussed. The article also presents case studies that highlight successful implementations of digital twins in diverse manufacturing contexts, showcasing measurable improvements in productivity and system reliability. In addition, the research identifies key challenges, including data integration complexities, high computational requirements, and cost implications, that manufacturers must address to fully leverage the potential of digital twins. By synthesizing these insights, the paper provides a comprehensive framework for researchers and practitioners seeking to harness digital twin technology for vibration management in manufacturing environments.

Effectiveness of RESET care program: A real-world-evidence on managing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease through digital health interventions.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) management requires sustainable lifestyle modifications. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the RESET care plan, a comprehensive program that is an integrated personalized diet, exercise, and cognitive behavior therapy, delivered via MyTatva's digital health application enabled through a body composition analyzer (BCA) and smartwatch. To evaluates the effectiveness of the comprehensive program delivered via MyTatva's digital health app enabled through internet of thing devices. This retrospective observational study analyzed deidentified data from 22 participants enrolled in the MyTatva RESET care program. Participants were divided into three groups: Group A, diet plan; Group B, diet + exercise plan; and Group C, diet + exercise + cognitive behavioral therapy plan. Participants were provided with a BCA and smartwatch for continuous monitoring of anthropometric parameters. Statistical analysis, including one-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey's Honest Significant Difference test, was conducted to compare mean changes in anthropometric parameters across the groups. All intervention groups showed significant improvement across all anthropometric parameters. Group C showed the most significant improvements, with mean weight reduction of 7% or more (6.99 ± 2.98 kg, 7.00% ± 3.39%; P = 0.002) from baseline, a benchmark associated with improved NAFLD conditions. Post-hoc analysis revealed that Group C had significantly greater improvements than Groups A and B. Weight reduction was observed in 85.7% of Group A participants, 77.8% of Group B participants, and 100% of Group C participants. The comprehensive RESET care plan achieved a 7% weight reduction in 12 weeks, demonstrating its effectiveness in managing NAFLD. These results support adopting digitally supported, patient-centric approaches for NAFLD treatment.

High-Detail 3D Reconstruction and Digital Strategies for the Enhancements of Archaeological Properties in Museums

In recent years, increasing attention has been directed toward the application of digitization through geomatic-based technologies for museum assets. These powerful tools have proven valuable in assisting museums in the dissemination of cultural heritage. Additionally, museums around the world are implementing strategies to improve the accessibility of their assets by involving the use of 3D digital reconstruction. The 3D high-precision survey is employed in several fields to scan objects with a geometrical accuracy up to the micrometer level. These technologies come into play when dealing with detailed surfaces and complex geometry, as often occurs with cultural heritage assets. This paper presents a set of experiences in high-precision 3D scanning and post-processing operations in the framework of a project at the Territory Museum of Riccione (Italy). The 3D data acquisition methodology conducted and digital operations are reported on for some of the scanned artifacts.

Digital Twin Smart City Visualization with MoE-Based Personal Thermal Comfort Analysis

Digital twin technology us used to create accurate virtual representations of objects or systems. Digital twins span the object’s life cycle and keep updated with real-time data. Therefore, their simulation capabilities can be combined with deep learning to create a system that simulates scenarios, enabling analysis. As cities continue to grow and the demand for sustainable development increases, digital twin technology, combined with AI-driven analysis, will play a critical role in shaping the future of urban environments. The ability to accurately simulate and manage complex systems in real time opens up new possibilities for optimizing energy usage, reducing costs, and improving the quality of life for urban residents. In this study, a digital twin application is built to visualize a smart area in South Korea, utilizing a deep learning model for personal thermal comfort analysis, which can be useful for managing and saving building and household energy consumption. Using Cesium for Unreal, a powerful tool for integrating 3D geospatial data, and leveraging DataSmith to convert 3D data into Unreal Engine format, this study also contributes a roadmap for smart city application development, which is currently considered to be lacking. By creating a robust framework for smart city applications, this research not only addresses current challenges but also lays the groundwork for future innovations in urban planning and management.

Structural Health Assessment of a Reinforced Concrete Building in Valparaíso Under Seismic and Environmental Shaking: A Foundation for IoT-Driven Digital Twin Systems

Structural health monitoring is vital for the safety and longevity of infrastructure, particularly in seismic zones. This study focuses on identifying the dynamic properties of a reinforced concrete building in Chile’s Valparaíso region. Using an experimental approach, the study compares ambient vibration records, seismic events (moment magnitude > 4), and data collected during adjacent construction activities. Force-balanced accelerometers were used for vibration measurements. The analysis employs the Stochastic Subspace Identification with Covariances (SSI-COV) method within an operational modal analysis framework to extract the building’s modal parameters without requiring artificial excitations. This technique effectively identifies modal characteristics under different vibration sources, making it suitable for evaluating the structural condition under diverse loading conditions. The findings reveal the building’s modes and frequencies, offering critical insights for maintenance and management of infrastructure. Little to no variations were observed in the identified frequencies of the building when working with different types of input data. These data support the integration of real-time IoT systems for continuous monitoring, providing a foundation for future digital twin applications. These advancements facilitate early deterioration detection, enhancing resilience in seismic environments.

How do digital knowledge resources affect the carbon emission intensity of the pig industry?

Purpose By exploring the impact of digital knowledge resources (DKR) on the carbon emission intensity of the pig industry (PCEI), this study aims to reveal the role of DKR in reducing PCEI. Design/methodology/approach Based on provincial panel data in China from 2011 to 2021, this study uses the entropy and Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change coefficient methods to calculate the evaluation index system of DKR and PCEI, respectively. Empirical analysis using a panel fixed-effects model examines the influence of DKR on PCEI and its underlying mechanisms. Findings DKR can significantly reduce PCEI. This conclusion still holds even after undergoing endogeneity treatment and a series of robustness tests. Mechanism test results indicate that DKR can operate indirectly through the mediation mechanism of rural human capital (RHC) and pig breeding technology innovation (PTI), while environmental regulation intensity (ERI) plays a positive moderating role in the relationship between DKR and PCEI. The magnitude of the impact of DKR on PCEI depends on ERI. Further studies found that the impact of DKR on PCEI has obvious heterogeneity characteristics, and the promotion effect is more obvious in regions with good integration degrees and high development potential. Practical implications This paper divides DKR into three dimensions: digital technology knowledge (DTK), digital management knowledge (DMK) and digital application knowledge (DAK), providing a new framework for research and enriching the understanding of the relationship between DKR and PCEI. Furthermore, the research results reveal the application potential of DKR in the pig industry, particularly in terms of resource allocation efficiency. This is of great significance for promoting low-carbon development in the pig industry and provides insights for the low-carbon transformation of other industries. In addition, the study emphasizes the moderating effect of ERI on the mechanism of carbon reduction in the pig industry through DKR. This offers a new perspective for understanding the relationship between knowledge management and environmental governance, providing a reference basis for policy formulation in related fields. Originality/value This paper further enriches the role of DKR in the livestock industry. Integrating DKR with traditional industries promotes knowledge innovation, information distribution and utilization and scientific decision-making. This has significant value in promoting the development and application of carbon reduction technologies, enhancing industrial competitive advantages, and other aspects.

Analysis of factors influencing the acquisition of sustainable mobility through immersive experience in primary school children

Gamification and Escape Rooms (ER) have emerged as effective tools for fostering attitudinal and behavioural shifts and enhancing learning. While their application in sustainable mobility remains limited, it is predominantly associated with digital games and mobile applications tailored towards an adult audience. This study explores the potential of these tools in cultivating an understanding of sustainable mobility principles among children aged 10 to 13. Through an immersive experience involving problem-solving and puzzles, 174 participating students were immersed in a playful setting conductive to assimilating knowledge about sustainable mobility. Pre- and post-experience questionnaires were administered to assess the extent of learning, and their results were categorised based on student characteristics, such as gender and mobility patterns. Using multinomial logit models to analyse the questionnaire data helped identify variables that affect the likelihood of giving correct answers before and after the experience. The results indicate that gender, bicycle usage, dependence on public transportation, and the number of cars in the household significantly impact awareness of mobility issues. Moreover, the ER experience has been found to cause a small yet noticeable change in understanding sustainable mobility concepts.

Real-World-Evidence of Digital Health Applications (DiGAs) in Rheumatology: Insights from the DiGAReal Registry.

Prescribable digital health applications (DiGAs) present scalable solutions to improve patient self-management in rheumatology, however real-world evidence is scarce. Therefore, we aimed to assess the effectiveness, usage, and usability of DiGAs prescribed by rheumatologists, as well as patient satisfaction. The DiGAReal registry includes adult patients with rheumatic conditions who received a DiGA prescription. Data at baseline (T0) and the 3-month follow-up (T1) were collected through electronic questionnaires. Study outcomes included DiGA-specific outcome assessments as well as generic outcome assessments, including the Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC), Patient Activation Measure (PAM®), and the German Telehealth Usability and Utility Short Questionnaire (TUUSQ). Changes between T0 and T1 were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired tests. A total of 191 patients were included between June 2022 and April 2023. Of these, 127 completed the 3-month follow-up, and 114 reported using the prescribed DiGA, with 66% reporting weekly use and 15% completing the full DiGA program. The most commonly prescribed DiGAs targeted pain management (53%). Symptom improvement was reported by 51% of patients using a DiGA, with significant reductions in exhaustion levels (p = 0.03). Significant DiGA-specific improvements were observed for DiGAs addressing back pain (p = 0.05) and insomnia (p = 0.006). However, no overall significant changes were detected in patient activation, health literacy, pain, overall health, or disease activity. Back pain and weight management DiGAs were the most effective, frequently used, and best-rated DiGAs, with symptom improvements reported by 50% to 82% of patients. The findings suggest that DiGAs can improve symptom management in rheumatic patients, especially for conditions like back pain and weight control. Further real-world evidence is needed and may support value-based digital health efforts and reimbursement frameworks.

Intergenerational Methods to Promote Digital Application Usage among Older Adults: A Scoping Review

The increase in the aging population highlights the importance of digital literacy for improving the quality of life of older adults. Despite their interest in incorporating digital technology into their daily lives, numerous studies have shown that older adults often struggle with its use due to a lack of learning interest, poor memory retention, and improper instruction. To address these challenges, a scoping review was conducted, drawing from 14 eligible articles sourced from Web of Science and Scopus. The review aimed to identify recent intergenerational methods that effectively facilitate the adoption of digital applications among older adults. The findings were categorized into five intergenerational methods: collaborative, virtual meeting, co-activity, family intergenerational learning, and reverse mentoring. Within these categories, the study identified key elements crucial for the success of technology-based intergenerational programs, including creating clear objectives and goals, developing comprehensive planning and structure, demonstrating effective recruitment, providing training and support, offering facilitation, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in content, and conducting thorough evaluation and feedback. By exploring these elements, this paper provides valuable insights for researchers seeking to develop and understand how technology-based intergenerational programs are conducted.

Reflections of Foster Youth Engaging in the Co-Design of Digital Mental Health Technology: Duoethnography Study.

Current research on digital applications to support the mental health and well-being of foster youth is limited to theoretical applications for transition-aged foster youth and support platforms developed without intentional input from foster youth themselves. Centering the lived expertise of foster youth in digital solutions is crucial to dismantling barriers to care, leading to an increase in service access and improving mental health outcomes. Co-design centers the intended end users during the design process, creating a direct relationship between potential users and developers. This methodology holds promise for creating tools centered on foster youth, yet little is known about the co-design experience for foster youth. Understanding foster youth's experience with co-design is crucial to identifying best practices, knowledge of which is currently limited. The aim of this paper is to reflect on the experiences of 4 foster youth involved in the co-design of FostrSpace, a mobile app designed through a collaboration among foster youth in the San Francisco Bay Area; clinicians and academics from the Juvenile Justice Behavioral Health research team at the University of California, San Francisco; and Chorus Innovations, a rapid technology development platform specializing in participatory design practices. Key recommendations for co-designing with foster youth were generated with reference to these reflections. A duoethnography study was conducted over a 1-month period with the 4 transition-aged former foster youth co-designers of FostrSpace via written reflections and a single in-person roundtable discussion. Reflections were coded and analyzed via reflexive thematic analysis. In total, 4 main themes were identified from coding of the duoethnography reflections: power and control, resource navigation, building community and safe spaces, and identity. Themes of power and control and resource navigation highlighted the challenges FostrSpace co-designers experienced trying to access basic needs, support from caregivers, and mental health resources as foster youth and former foster youth. Discussions pertaining to building community and safe spaces highlighted the positive effect of foster youth communities on co-designers, and discussions related to identity revealed the complexities associated with understanding and embracing foster youth identity. This duoethnography study highlights the importance of centering the lived expertise of co-designers throughout the app development process. As the digital health field increasingly shifts toward using co-design methods to develop digital mental health technologies for underserved youth populations, we offer recommendations for researchers seeking to ethically and effectively engage youth co-designers. Actively reflecting throughout the co-design process, finding creative ways to engage in power-sharing practices to build community, and ensuring mutual benefit among co-designers are some of the recommended core components to address when co-designing behavioral health technologies for youth.

Research on Measuring the Development Level of Digital Economy in Five Provinces in Northwest China

The digital economy is a crucial factor in enhancing the quality of regional economic development. Conducting measurements and evaluations of the development level of the digital economy in the five northwestern provinces of China holds significant practical importance. Based on provincial panel data from 2012 to 2022 for these five provinces, this paper establishes a comprehensive evaluation index system encompassing digital infrastructure, digital innovation, digital application, and digital industry. An objective and comprehensive measurement method, namely the entropy value method, is employed for the assessment. The research team found that the digital economy in the five northwestern provinces is continually improving, yet there exists a significant development gap among them. Therefore, the five northwestern provinces should strengthen the formulation and implementation of supportive policy systems, ensure a favorable environment for digital economic development, enhance inter-provincial communication, promote integrated and complementary development of the digital economy, accelerate the exploitation of resource advantages, and address the shortcomings in digital economic development.

The effectiveness of learning media based on digital augmented reality (AR) technology on the learning outcomes of martial arts

Introduction and Objectives : The educational potential of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies has gained significant attention in recent years. Understanding teachers' willingness to adopt new technologies is crucial for supporting their integration into education. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of AR-based digital technology applications as learning media for improving martial arts learning outcomes in the Basic Engineering Materials course at the Faculty of Sports Science, Padang State University. Methodology : This experimental study used a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 62 students from the Faculty of Sports Science, Padang State University, selected through cluster random sampling. The subjects were divided into a control group and an experimental group. Data was collected using a pretest-posttest design. Statistical analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk and Wilcoxon tests in SPSS software. Results: The results showed a significant difference in learning outcomes between students using AR-based learning media and those who did not. The p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05) indicates that the use of AR-based learning media significantly improved students' learning outcomes at the Faculty of Sports Science, Padang State University. Conclusion: The study concludes that AR-based learning media are effective in enhancing students’ learning outcomes, particularly in martial arts education. The Impact of Digital Transformation on ESGEvidence from the Listed Companies in China

In the digital economy era, the influence of digital transformation on enterprises' ESG performance has received extensive attention. This article selects Chinese A-share listed companies from 2010 to 2022 as samples, constructs a digital transformation index encompassing five dimensions: artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, blockchain, and digital technology application, and employs the ESG rating data from Huazheng to measure enterprises' ESG performance. The research discovers that digital transformation significantly and positively affects enterprises' ESG performance. Particularly when external supervision is relatively weak, its promoting effect is more pronounced. Digital transformation enhances enterprises' risk-taking capacity by optimizing resource allocation, strengthening green technology innovation, and improving the quality of information disclosure, thereby elevating enterprises' value creation ability. This article expands the literature research on the influencing factors of enterprises' ESG performance from the micro level of digital transformation, which holds significant importance for improving the digitalization strategies and governance systems of listed companies, further standardizing corporate governance, and enhancing enterprise value.

Penerapan Pembelajaran Seni Berbasis Steam: Studi Kasus Pembelajaran Musik Di TK Kemala Bhayangkari 34 Kendal

This study aims to analyze the concept and practice of STEAM-based art education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) at TK Kemala Bhayangkari 34 Kendal. The main focus of this research is to explore how the concept of art education, specifically music, is implemented within the STEAM framework at this school, as well as to examine how the practice is carried out by the teachers. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, utilizing observation, interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the teachers at TK Kemala Bhayangkari 34 Kendal have a strong understanding of the STEAM concept and successfully integrate its elements into music education. The lessons include sound wave experiments, creating musical instruments from recycled materials, and the use of digital music applications to introduce technology. Despite challenges related to limited resources and varying student abilities, the STEAM-based learning practice at this school has successfully created an engaging learning experience that enhances creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. This study also shows that STEAM-based learning is highly relevant for early childhood education as it helps children connect various disciplines in a fun and practical way. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the STEAM approach be further implemented in early childhood education to support the holistic development of students.

Blockchain-enabled digital twin system for brain stroke prediction

A digital twin is a virtual model of a real-world system that updates in real-time. In healthcare, digital twins are gaining popularity for monitoring activities like diet, physical activity, and sleep. However, their application in predicting serious conditions such as heart attacks, brain strokes and cancers remains under investigation, with current research showing limited accuracy in such predictions. Moreover, concerns around data security and privacy continue to challenge the widespread adoption of these models. To address these challenges, we developed a secure, machine learning powered digital twin application with three main objectives enhancing prediction accuracy, strengthening security, and ensuring scalability. The application achieved an accuracy of 98.28% for brain stroke prediction on the selected dataset. The data security was enhanced by integrating consortium blockchain technology with machine learning. The results show that the application is tamper-proof and is capable of detecting and automatically correcting backend data anomalies to maintain robust data protection. The application can be extended to monitor other pathologies such as heart attacks, cancers, osteoporosis, and epilepsy with minimal configuration changes.
