Antioxidant Activity of Avocado Folium (Persea americana M.)

Free radicals can be formed through normal cell metabolism events, malnutrition and as a result of responses to external influences such as pollution and ultraviolet rays. Free radicals can cause premature aging, therefore antioxidants are needed to prevent premature aging. Avocado folium (Persea americana M.) contain secondary metabolite compounds, namely alkaloids, saponins, tannins, glycosides and flavonoids in the form of quercetin, where flavonoid compounds can act as antioxidants. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of avocado leaf extract (P. americana M), using the (2,2-dihphenyl-1-picrylhdrazil) (DPPH) method. The sample used in this research was avocado folium obtained from Southeast Maluku, Maluku Province). DPPH method with a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 514 nm. The antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of avocado folium in this test is 112.410 µg / mL. The results of this study show that avocado folium extract has moderate antioxidant activity.

Exploring the chemical profile, antioxidant, in vivo anti-inflammatory and gastroprotective properties of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus thunb.) in rats

Citrullus lanatus thunb. (watermelon) belonging to the Curcubitaceae family, is the most important crops worldwide. The present work aims to estimate the polyphenolic content, anti-inflammatory and antiulcer properties, in addition to the antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of watermelon flesh fruit. The ethanolic extract of watermelon fruit contains secondary metabolites, polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins. Reducing power test and 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) scavenging assay were used to measure the antioxidant activity. In the two tests that were examined, watermelon ethanolic extract demonstrated a potent antioxidant potential. Pretreatment of rats with watermelon extract at the doses of 200 and 600 mg·kg-1 demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory effect and decreased carrageenan induced paw edema, with inhibition percentages of 57.24 ± 3.18 and 69.00 ± 2.80%, respectively. However, the doses 50, 200, and 600 mg·kg-1 of watermelon extract pretreated to rats reduced gastric mucosal injury on ethanol induced acute gastric ulcer with percentages protection of 75.01 ± 0.77, 92.38 ± 2.98 and 95.01 ± 0.81% compared to omeprazole (95.92%). This study revealed that watermelon fruit consumption could be a promising anti-inflammatory and gastroprotective agents.

Comparative Analysis of Infusions and Ethanolic Extracts of Annona muricata Leaves from Colima, Mexico: Phytochemical Profile and Antioxidant Activity.

Annona muricata L. (guanabana) leaves are rich in bioactive compounds with potential antioxidant properties. In the state of Colima, both ethanolic extracts and infusions are traditionally used in folk medicine to address various ailments. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the phytochemical composition and antioxidant activities of ethanolic extracts and infusions of A. muricata leaves from three geographic regions in Colima, Mexico, with a focus on how geographic origin affects their bioactive properties. Ethanolic extracts and infusions were prepared from A. muricata leaves and analyzed using phytochemical screening; DPPH, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and total phenolic content (TPC) measurements; and HPLC. TLC was also conducted to examine the presence of specific compounds, such as flavonoids and phenols. Both the ethanolic extracts and infusions contained significant levels of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and phenolic compounds. The infusions demonstrated superior antioxidant capacity, with DPPH inhibition values of 72.5%, 68.3%, and 65.1% in the northern, central, and southern regions, respectively, compared to the ethanolic extracts' values of 50.3%, 48.9%, and 45.0%. HPLC identified quercetin as a major compound across all samples. Geographically, the northern region exhibited higher concentrations of bioactive compounds, particularly total flavonoid content (TFC) and iron-reducing power (FRPA). Both the ethanolic extracts and infusions of A. muricata leaves exhibited significant antioxidant properties, with the infusions showing superior performance. The results suggest that A. muricata infusions may have potential applications in managing oxidative stress-related diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Exploring their use in traditional medicine and employing this type of approach can help discern the metabolite profile responsible for these bioactivities. Geographic factors influence the bioactive profile of the plant, and further research is needed to isolate specific bioactive compounds and elucidate their therapeutic mechanisms.

Testing the Antioxidant Activity of Ethanol Extract on Terap Fruit Seeds (Artocarpus odoratissimus) using the DPPH Method

Plants contain compounds that are classified as secondary metabolites. One of them is terap fruit (Artocarpus odoratissimus). Terap (Artocarpus odoratissimus) is a plant that grows a lot in Kalimantan. Most of the Artocarpus genus have pharmacological properties. One of the benefits of these compounds is as an antioxidant. Antioxidants can remove free radical compounds in the body and prevent the onset of disease. Secondary metabolite compounds found in plants have been isolated and used as components in medicine. The study was intended to determine the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of terap fruit seeds (Artocarpus odoratissimus) using the DPPH method. The method in this study was quantitative experimental, which included collecting and collecting plants, making simplicia, making extracts from terap seeds (Artocarpus odoratissimus) using 96% ethanol solvent, and for antioxidant activity testing using the DPPH method. The presence of antioxidant compounds in plant extracts can cause a change in the color of DPPH from purple to yellow. This color change will indicate antioxidant activity against DPPH free radicals and is measured by UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. Antioxidant activity was measured using the IC50 value (50% Inhibitory Concentration). From the results of the antioxidant activity test using the DPPH method, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of terap fruit seeds obtained from the Tarakan area showed antioxidant activity. The IC50 value of 197.45 mg/ml indicates that its antioxidant ability is impaired as a weak antioxidant.

Antioxidant Activities of Ethanolic Extracts Obtained from α-Pinene-Containing Plants and Their Use in Cosmetic Emulsions.

α-Pinene is the bicyclic, unsaturated terpene hydrocarbon present in many plants. Due to its beneficial chemical properties, this compound is of great interest and has found numerous applications as a raw material in many chemical industries as well as in medicine and cosmetics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant activities of ethanolic extracts obtained from plants containing α-pinene and to test the properties of cosmetic emulsions prepared with these extracts. The raw plant materials consisted of fresh parts of Pinus sylvestris L., such as cones, needles, and branches, as well as dried unground and ground pinecones; dried and fresh Rosmarinus officinalis leaves; dried Levisticum officinale leaves; and dried Salvia officinalis L. leaves. The plant materials were individually extracted with 40% (v/v), 70% (v/v), and 96% (v/v) ethanol using ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) for 15, 30, or 60 min. This method is a green extraction technique, frequently applied to isolate active substances from plants. For the selected plant materials, Soxhlet extraction with 96% (v/v) ethanol was also performed. The qualitative and quantitative analyses of the components in the selected extracts were performed with gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The antioxidant activities of the extracts were evaluated with the DPPH and ABTS methods. The extracts of three plant materials with the highest antioxidant activities-dried Rosmarinus officinalis leaves, dried Salvia officinalis L. leaves, and dried and ground Pinus sylvestris L. cones-were selected to be incorporated in cosmetic emulsions containing glyceryl monostearate and Olivem 1000 as emulsifiers. The stabilities and antioxidant activities of the emulsions were evaluated. Moreover, the antimicrobial properties of the emulsions using microbiological tests were also determined. The findings suggest that the prepared emulsions are stable cosmetic products with a high antioxidant potential.

Effectiveness of Calina Papaya Leaf Ethanol Extract on The Red Blood Profile of Wistar Rats Exposed to Cigarette Smoke

Cigarette smoke is a source of exogenous free radicals that can affect the blood. Calina Papaya leaves contain secondary metabolites that act as antioxidants. The purpose of the study was to analyze the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of Calina Papaya leaves using DPPH method and to analyze the difference in red blood profile of wistar rats exposed to cigarette smoke after administration of Calina Papaya Leaves Ethanol Extract (CPLEE). The research method used 24 wistar rats with oral administration of CPLEE for 23 days and exposure to cigarette smoke for 15 days. There are 4 treatments, namely rats not exposed to cigarette smoke and given distilled water (K), rats exposed to cigarette smoke (KN), rats given CPLEE 100 mg/Kg BW then exposed to cigarette smoke (P1) and rats given CPLEE 200 mg/Kg BW then exposed to cigarette smoke (P2). Parameters observed were red blood profile (erythrocyte number, hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW). Blood was collected through the orbital sinus and analyzed using a hematology analyzer. Data were analyzed using one way ANOVA and Duncan Multiple Range Test (P<0.05). The results showed the IC50 value of the extract was 1,194.1 ppm while ascorbic acid was 22.92 ppm. The number of erythrocytes, MCV, MCH and RDW showed significant differences between groups with the highest treatment in P1. The conclusion shows that the antioxidant activity of CPLEE is very weak compared to ascorbic acid but the red blood profile (erythrocytes, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW) in treatment P1 is higher than other treatments.

The investigation of selected bioactive compounds and antioxidant properties of Crataegus monogyna L

This work presents investigation of chemical composition and antioxidant activity of ethanolic extracts of leaves with flowers and berries prepared by ultrasound and Soxhlet extractions of Crataegus monogyna from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Total phenolic, flavonoid, and anthocyanin contents were measured by spectrophotometric methods. The sample of leaves with flowers extracted by Soxhlet extraction was the richest in the content of total phenolic compounds (14.43 mg GAE/g DW) and total flavonoids (2.22 mg QE/g DW). Same extract showed the best antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 0.71 mg/mL for DPPH and 0.38 mg/mL for ABTS assay, as well as the highest content of gallic acid, caffeic acid, and hyperoside 0.04 mg GAE/g DW, 0.60 mg CA/g DW and 2.61 mg HYP/g DW, respectively, determined by HPLC-ED. Vitexin was not detected. The extract of berries obtained by ultrasound extraction had the highest amount of total anthocyanins (1.69 mg/100 g DW).

Effect of Germination and Fermentation on the Nutrient Contents, Functional and Antioxidant Activities of Pigeon Pea (Cajanus cajan) Flour

Effect of germination and fermentation on the nutrient contents, functional and antioxidant activities of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) flour were investigated. The pigeon pea seeds were sorted, cleaned and processed into germinated, fermented and raw flours. The flour samples obtained were analyzed for proximate composition, mineral contents, antinutrient contents, functional properties and antioxidant/free radical scavenging properties using standard methods. The results of the proximate composition showed that the moisture content within the range of 9.62±0.02-9.96±0.01, crude protein content 16.63±0.01-24.17±0.01, crude fibre content 1.41±0.01-2.59±0.01, lipid 4.33±0.01-5.61±0.01, ash content 1.62±0.01-2.17±0.01, carbohydrate 56.80±0.02 - 62.47±0.01 and energy values 366.91 - 374.40kcal/100g. The result of elemental mineral analysis showed magnesium as the major mineral element in the sample (91.32±0.02 to 123.75±0.04mg/g), calcium (96.02 ± 0.02 - 110.14 ± 0.003mg/g), phosphorus (39.11 ± 0.02 - 46.12 ± 0.03mg/g), sodium (8.63 ± 0.02 - 12.61 ± 0.001mg/g), Iron (3.08 ± 0.02 - 4.11 ± 0.001mg/g) and zinc (2.04 ± 0.01 - 3.17mg/g) respectively. The result of the functional properties showed optimal gelatinization temperature ranged from 73.610C - 89.410C, emulsion capacity, 11.88 - 43.42%, foam stability,28.22 to 65.81%, foaming capacity,15.83 to 21.11%, bulk density,0.53 - 0.71g/ml, water absorption capacity, 1.11 and 1.51ml/g while oil absorption capacity,0.84 - 1.14ml/g. The sensory properties of the moi-moi from the processed flours showed that the colour test, (6.33 -7.53), flavour (7.63 to 7.75), taste (5.13 to 5.53), mouth-feel (7.25 to 7.36), overall acceptability (6.93±0.04 - 8.83±0.04). The results of the phenolic content ranged from 20.13mg\GAE, 53.43mg\GAE and 42.64mg\GAE for raw processed, malted and fermented samples respectively. The results of the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) antioxidant activity of ethanolic extracts showed IC50values of 0.810, 1.177 and 1.014mg\ml for the raw, malted and fermented seed extracts respectively. The moisture, crude protein and fibre contents was significantly increased (p>0.05) during germination and fermentation whereas lipid, carbohydrate, ash and energy values were significantly (p<0.05) decreased by the processing techniques. Germination increased the emulsion capacity, foaming capacity whereas fermentation reduced the foaming capacity of pigeon pea flour. Malting and fermentation significantly (p>0.05) increased the % scavenging properties of pigeon pea extract though that of germination was higher. Malting and fermentation significantly (p<0.05) decreased the sensory properties of moi-moi produced. Based on the result obtained, regular consumption of pigeon pea will be a proactive measure against heart diseases and other related disorders in the human body.

Yungas propolis in the scavenging of vitamin B2-photogenerated ROS

This study focused on the scavenging action and antioxidant activity of propolis from Trancas (ProTr) as a promoter and scavenger of Riboflavin (Rf)-photogenerated reactive oxygen species (ROS), widely used in traditional medicine as an antioxidant. A thorough examination of the antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract (EE) was made possible by a kinetic and mechanistic study of the total polyphenol contents in the extract using stationary photolysis and time-resolved photochemical methods.Under aerobic visible-light-irradiation conditions, with Rf as the only light-absorber molecule, a complex frame of competitive interactions takes place, with the triplet excited states of Rf being quenched by ProTr. Rf triplet excited states can interact with ProTr or produce singlet oxygen and superoxide radical anions. The results indicated ProTr to be an efficient ROS scavenger. The antioxidant behavior of ProTr is similar to that of Trolox, a well-known antioxidant. Propolis is slightly photodegraded by interaction with the mentioned ROS, highlighting the crucial role of ProTr and its potential in mitigating oxidative stress-induced damage in biological systems. These findings suggest that ProTr could be a promising natural alternative to synthetic antioxidants for combating oxidative stress.

NUTRITIONAL CONTENT, PHYTOCHEMICALS AND IN-VITRO ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITIES OF ETHANOL EXTRACT OF RED AND WHITE ONION

Since antiquity onions (Allium cepa, L) have been cultivated across the globe as an important source of food and medicine. The study evaluated the nutritional content, phytochemistry and invitro antioxidant activities of ethanol extract of red and white onion bulbs. Red and white onion bulbs were purchased from a Local market in Maiduguri. Ethanol extracts were prepared using homogenized bulb. The proximate analysis, flavonoids, tannin, and phenol contents of the extracts as well as the antioxidant activities (total antioxidant activity, reducing power, and 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activities) were evaluated using standard procedures. The ash and carbohydrate contents of the two extracts were similar. However, the fat and protein contents were higher in white onion (2.44% & 1.05%) compared to the red onion (1.00% & 0.13%) while the moisture content was higher in red onion (16.10%) compared to the white onion (13.60%). The flavonoids, tannin, and phenol content as well as the total antioxidant activity was significantly higher (p<0.05) in the red onion relative to the white. White onion had a better reducing power activity compared to the red while the red had higher DPPH free radical scavenging activity compared to the white. Conclusively, our findings revealed that both red and white onion contains varying quantity of phenolic compounds with strong reducing power and DPPH free radical scavenging activity. However, red onion was shown to have higher antioxidant activity relative to the white.

Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Activities of Ethanolic Extract of Fermented Black Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) Seed Dregs

Sesame seed dregs or residue refers to the byproduct that is left after sesame seeds have been processed to extract oil and can used in a variety of ways. The residues were subjected to spontaneous fermentation for 7 days at room temperature (23-27°C). The purpose of this research was to analyze antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract obtained from fermented black sesame seed dregs. The diameter of inhibition zones of extracts against 16 pathogenic microorganisms ranged from 6.88 to 11.00 mm and the minimum inhibitory concentrations ranged from 6.25 to 50.00 mg/mL, with the extract being particularly effective against P. aeruginosa ATCC9027 and C. albicans ATCC10231. Minimum bactericidal/fungicidal concentrations were spread from 25.00 to >50.00 mg/mL. P. aeruginosa ATCC9027 and C. albicans ATCC10231 were completely killed in 2 h incubation time at 4 × MIC in a time-kill kinetics assay. In comparison to raw seeds and seed dregs extracts, the fermented seed dregs extract displayed a higher total phenolic content. In addition, the fermented extract had a lower IC50 concentration compared to raw seeds and seed dregs extracts. These results suggest that fermented black sesame seed dregs can be used as an alternative method to reduce the microorganism’s growth. This is crucial for ensuring food safety and minimizing the risk of foodborne poisoning.

The Difference of Antioxidants Activity between Methanol Extract and Ethanol Extract of Bay Leaves (Syzygium polyanthum (Wigh) Walp) USED DPPH Method (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil)

Antioxidant are compounds that can inhibit oxidant by reacting with reactive of free radicals to form non reactive free radicals that was relatively stable. One of the natural antioxidants derived from plants is salam leaf. Salam leaf (Syzygium polyanthum (Wigh) Walp) has the chemical content of polyphenol compounds such as flavonoids and tannin its efficacious is as antioxidants. The aims of this research is to determine whether there is a reaction on antioxidant activity of ethanol extract and methanol extract of salam leaves, as well as to know whether there is a difference of antioxidants activity between the ethanol extract and methanol extract. The extraction of salam leaves is done by maceration method using liquid extraction 70% ethanol and methanol. The ethanol extract and methanol extract of salam leaves is made by the concentration 0,06%; 0,08%; 0,10%; 0,12%; 0,16% and its antioxidants power is being tested with DPPH. The antioxidants activity is determined by DPPH method with spectrofotometry UV-Vis till gets value EC50. This value EC50 is reached through the linear regression equation which states the relationship between the concentration of test solution (x) with the antioxidant activity (y) of a series of replicate measurements. The quantitative test results show that the average value EC50 for the ethanol extract of salam leaves is 14,2168 µg/ml and methanol extract of salam leaves is 12,4338 µg/ml. From the test results of “t” test in EC50 shows significant value 0,188 > 0,05 difference between ethanol extract (α value) which means that there is no significant difference between ethanol extract and methanol extract of salam leaves.

Phytochemical investigation and antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract, n-hexane and ethyl acetate fraction of salaon leaves (Indigofera tinctoria Linn.)

Plants known as salaon (Indigofera tinctoria L.) are commonly employed in conventional medicine. Salaon leaves have secondary metabolites sunch as alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, glycoside, phenol, saponin and triterpenoid levels have benefit as antioxidants in counteracting free radicals. The aimed of this research was to investigate the Antioxidant properties of The EESL, NHFSL and EAFSL. Phytochemical investigation process was used on extracts and fractions. Antioxidant properties was determined using the DPPH technique and a UV/Vis spectrophotometer at 515 nm. The water level of salaon leaf simplicia was around 9.32%; water-soluble extract of 34.70%, ethanol-soluble extract of 23.94%, total ash of 8.57% and acid insoluble ash of 1.38%. Alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, saponins, steroids, and triterpenoids were found in the phytochemical investigation of EESL. The EESL, NHFSL and EAFSL which were tested for antioxidant properties revealed IC50 values of (70.5046 ± 0.0409; 77.2190 ± 0.0021; 56.5593 ± 0.0120) µg/mL. IC50 value of quercetin in the extremely strong category is 2.5424± 0.0010 µg/mL. The results of this investigation indicate that salaon leaf ethanol extract, n-hexane, and ethyl acetate fraction have potent antioxidant properties.

Impact of extract conditions on total phenolic compounds and antioxidant activities of Phu Quoc sim fruits (rhodomyrtus tomentosa (ait.) hassk.)

Rhodomyrtus tomentosa is an evergreen shrub that originates from Southeast Asia and grows in abundance with rose-pink flowers and dark-purple edible bell-shaped fruits. In this study, optimal extraction conditions for achieving high contents and antioxidant activities of the total phenolic compound (TPC) from Phu Quoc sim fruits were investigated. It was found that the total phenolic content achieved was upon 179.055mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g dry weight extract (DWE) and the DPPH scavenging activity was 65.112% at concentration of 100µg/ml. The optimal extraction conditions were identified with 80% ethanol, with solid-to-solvent ratio of 1/4 (w/v), and 4 hours of extraction at the temperature of 60°C. Furthermore, the antioxidant activity of ethanol extract was found due to scavenging DPPH (IC50=93.713µg/ml) and ABTS (IC50=83.512µg/ml) radicals. Accordingly, Phu Quoc sim fruits was suggested a potential source of bioactive polyphenols with high antioxidant activities.

Phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity test of ethanol extract of casturi mango leaves (Mangifera casturi Koesterm.) from Drien Bungong village, Pidie Jaya, using the DPPH method

Antioxidants are chemical compounds that, in specific amounts, can inhibit or slow down cell damage caused by free radicals. Antioxidants function to protect the body from free radical attacks. The more free radicals in the body, the more cells will be damaged. One plant that contains antioxidant compounds is casturi mango (Mangifera casturi Koesterm.). Casturi mango (Mangifera casturi Koesterm.) is a plant that contains secondary metabolite compounds such as saponins, tannins, triterpenoids, flavonoids, and phenolics which have potential as antioxidants. This research aimed to determine differences in secondary metabolite compounds and antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of casturi mango leaves (Mangifera casturi Koesterm.) growing in Gampong Drien Bungong, Pidie Jaya. The stages of this research include sample processing, making ethanol extract of kasturi mango leaves, characterization examination, phytochemical screening, and antioxidant activity test. The sample used was musk mango leaves. The ethanol extract of casturi mango leaves (Mangifera casturi Koesterm.) was extracted using maceration with 96% ethanol solvent. The antioxidant activity test was carried out using the DPPH (1-1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl) method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a maximum wavelength of 516 nm and vitamin C as a comparison. Based on the results of phytochemical screening tests, there are differences in secondary metabolites in the ethanol extract of kasturi mango leaves in Gampong Drien Bungong, Pidie Jaya, namely alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, and glycosides, and the results of antioxidant activity obtained an IC50 value of 9.06 ppm with the category very strong, equivalent to the antioxidant potential of vitamin C, having an IC50 value of 4.63 ppm in the robust category.

A New Edible Wild Mushroom Species, Panus sribuabanensis (Panaceae, Polyporales) from Northern Thailand and Its Nutritional Composition, Total Phenolic Content, and Antioxidant Activity

A new edible wild mushroom species, described herein as Panus sribuabanensis, was collected from local markets and natural forests located in northern Thailand. This species is characterized by its medium to large-sized basidiomata, broadly ellipsoid to ellipsoid-shaped basidiospores, dimitic hyphal system, and the absence of hyphal pegs. A molecular phylogenetic analysis of combined the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and large subunit (nrLSU) of nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences supported the monophyly of P. sribuabanensis as a distinct lineage within the genus Panus. Full description, illustrations, color photographs, and a phylogenetic tree to show the placement of P. sribuabanensis are provided. The dried mushroom showed a nutritional composition within the range of 2.58%–2.67% for fat content, 27.10%–27.98% for protein, and 43.97%–44.10% for carbohydrates. The ethanolic extracts from this mushroom exhibited a total phenolic content ranging from 0.66 to 0.74 mg GAE/g dry weight (dw). Moreover, the antioxidant activities of ethanolic extracts evaluated by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (0.90–1.08 mg TE/g dw) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (0.93–1.08 mg TE/g dw) assays demonstrate higher activity compared to the 2,2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) assay (0.44–0.51 mg TE/g dw). The outcomes of this study provide significant information on the nutritional value, phenolic content, and antioxidant activity potential of this new mushroom species discovered in northern Thailand.

Utilizing In-vitro Techniques to Evaluate the Antioxidant Potential of Vitex negundo Leaves Extract

In this study, Vitex negundo leaf extracts were screened for phytochemical composition and antioxidant activity. Antioxidants are essential for preventing and battling oxidative stress and, ultimately, ailments it leads to. The study that employed FRAP, nitric oxide scavenging, superoxide radical scavenging, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) to test the antioxidant activity of V. negundo leaves extract revealed antioxidant activity. The result of the phytochemical examination of the extract shows that entity of total phenolic content, reducing sugar, saponin. The findings suggest that this herb can be a very beneficial component for conditions that call for antioxidant therapy and are brought on by oxidative stress. The V. negundo shows the average TPC of 235.24 GAE/g weight of ethanolic extract. The TFC in the ethanolic extract was found to be 157.53 mg QE/g of extract. Outcomes demonstrated the significant antioxidant activity of ethanolic extracts of V. negundo leaves.
