Combustion characteristics analysis and performance evaluation of a hydrogen engine under direct injection plus lean burn mode

Direct injection plus lean burn technology can effectively control combustion processes and reduce carbon emissions of hydrogen engines. Hence, hydrogen direct injection strategy optimization is a key means to improve engine performance and achieve low emissions. Thus, a three-dimensional transient calculation model coupled chemical reaction mechanism is established, and its reliability and accuracy are systematically evaluated using experimental data. Then, the effects of hydrogen direct injection strategies on the hydrogen-air mixing and combustion process are investigated. The results indicate that the ideal mixture stratification law is that the gas fuel concentration is gradually stratified from the ignition center to the periphery region. The maximum indicated work is obtained for the B-60° scheme which its injection position is near the intake side and 7.5 mm from the cylinder center on the X-axis. The optimal hydrogen injection angles vary with different injection positions by evaluating engine performance, specifically, 60° is optimal for injection position B, while 30° is best for injection position C which is between intake and exhaust and 40 mm from the cylinder center on the Y-axis. Finally, the achieved maximum thermal efficiencies of 41% and indicated power of 4.29 kW for the B-60° scheme, and its nitric oxide can meet the Europe V emission standards (7.5 g/kWh). This research can offer theoretical guidance for designing and optimizing fuel injection strategies for hydrogen energy engines, and it is relevant for promoting carbon neutrality and cleaner production.

Analysis of combustion characteristics of ammonia/hydrogen mixed fuel in HCCI engine

Abstract A zero-dimensional HCCI combustion model for ammonia/hydrogen mixed gases was established to study the influence of hydrogen on the combustion characteristics of ammonia fuel. The effects of compression ratio, intake temperature, and hydrogen ratio on the combustion performance of ammonia were analyzed. The results suggest that due to the high ignition point of ammonia, the intake temperature must reach 523 K when the compression ratio is 18 for ammonia fuel to be compression ignited. At the same time, it was found that under this condition, ammonia fuel can burn under lean conditions (ϕ=0.2). The study also found that when the intake temperature is 523 K, the minimum-to-compression ratio during ammonia compression ignition decreases from 18 to 10 as the hydrogen doping ratio increases from 0 to 0.2.

Controllability of Pre-Chamber Induced Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition and Performance Comparison with Pre-Chamber Spark Ignition and Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition

This paper presents an experimental and numerical evaluation of the pre-chamber induced HCCI combustion concept (PC-HCCI) in terms of engine performance, emissions, and controllability. In this concept, a spark-initiated combustion in the pre-chamber is utilized to trigger the kinetically controlled combustion of an ultra-lean mixture in the main combustion chamber. The experimental measurements were performed on a single-cylinder engine with a custom-made active pre-chamber. A high compression ratio of 17.5 was used, which limits the maximum achievable engine load due to high knocking tendency but enables both standard PCSI combustion (flame propagation) at very high dilution levels and HCCI combustion at reasonable intake temperatures. The analysis of combustion characteristics and the resulting performance is performed at indicated mean effective pressures (IMEPs) of 3.5 and 3.0 bars, and three different intake temperatures of 80 °C, 90 °C, and 100 °C. The variation in engine load was achieved by adjusting the excess air ratio in the main chamber. On each combination of intake temperature and engine load, a spark sweep and an injected PC fuel mass sweep were performed to obtain the highest indicated efficiency while satisfying the restrictions in terms of combustion stability and knock intensity. It was shown that, unlike in a conventional HCCI engine, the combustion phasing can be directly and reliably controlled by adjusting either spark timing or the reactivity of the pre-chamber mixture, ensuring adequate combustion stability and eliminating potential misfires. A similar indicated efficiency as with conventional HCCI combustion was obtained, while the NOx emissions, although slightly elevated, are still insignificant. Compared to PCSI combustion at the same engine load, a 4-percentage-point increase in indicated efficiency and two times lower NOx emissions were achieved. Compared to the most efficient PCSI operating point, it was 1 percentage point lower, indicating that efficiency was achieved, but the specific NOx emissions are reduced by approximately 70%. Most importantly, very similar performance was obtained with significant variations in intake temperature, proving the reliability and adaptability of this combustion concept.

Validation of effect of composite additive on optimized combustion characteristics of CI engine using AHP and GRA method

The primary focus of this study is the validation of composite additives with the help of additional optimization methods and the analysis of its effect on the combustion characteristics of compression ignition (CI) engines. Previous work on the identification of the correct multi additive combination by Taguchi and the TOPSIS optimization method has shown substantial improvements in the performance and emission characteristics of CI engines. The same work was extended using the GRA Optimization method with the Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) optimization technique known as the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to validate the optimization results from the previous optimization work. Remarkably, all optimization methods yielded consistent results, pointing to the superiority of the composite additive sample ‘D8EH6E4 hence supporting the outcome of previous work. Subsequent testing and comparison of this novel composite additive with baseline diesel fuel for combustion characteristics analysis demonstrated notable improvements in combustion parameters, including a 25 % reduction in the rate of pressure rise, an 18 % decrease in net heat release rate, and a 6 % decrease in mean gas temperature.

Comparative analysis of combustion characteristics and economy between air assisted combustion and oxy-fuel combustion in glass furnaces

The oxy-fuel combustion is an effective means to improve the high energy consumption, pollution, and economic cost of glass furnaces. In this paper, the combustion characteristics in the flame spaces of traditional natural gas/air assisted combustion glass furnace (GF-NAC) and reformed natural gas/oxy-fuel combustion glass furnace (GF-NOC) are analyzed and compared by means of numerical calculation. More importantly, a systematic quantitative comparative analysis is conducted on the economic performance of the two glass furnaces from the perspectives of fixed and operating costs. The results show that enhanced combustion performance of GF-NOC over GF-NAC is found with flames being extended across the entire width of the furnace in GF-NOC. A more uniform temperature distribution within the furnace is consequently accomplished in GF-NOC. The flame center temperature, the average furnace temperature, and the average glass surface temperature in GF-NOC are increased by 7.42 %, 1.17 %, and 7.96 %, respectively, compared to GF-NAC. Furthermore, a reduction in gas velocity by 50 % at the arch in GF-NOC is observed to mitigate the erosive effects of high-temperature gas flows on the furnace crown. According to the service life of glass furnace of 15 years, the GF-NOC can save 420 M (million yuan) (12.8 %) compared to the GF-NAC. Although the fixed cost of GF-NOC is 9.82 M (5.43 %) higher than that of GF-NAC due to the expenditure on oxygen production equipment, the difference is offset by operating costs. Compared to GF-NAC, GF-NOC can save operating costs of 28.7 M (15.87 %) per year.

Optoacoustic interferometric characterization system (OPTICS) for the evaluation of fuel quality through speed of sound measurements

Ultrasonic techniques have been applied to assess crucial physical parameters in various types of fuels including the speed of sound (SoS), the bulk modulus and the acoustic attenuation coefficient. Such investigations may have important practical significance as the knowledge of fuel properties is directly related to the analysis of combustion characteristics, engine’s overall performance and exhaust emission in the environment. Nevertheless, typical pulse-echo acoustic methods, require the exact determination of both acoustic source – reflector distance and the time of flight of a finite temporal width ultrasonic pulse, setting thus an upper limit as regards the accuracy of the measurements. To encounter these challenges, we present a novel technology implemented through a low-cost and potentially portable optoacoustic interferometric characterization system (OPTICS) for the investigation of SoS variations in common fuels including automotive diesel, hydrous ethanol and gasoline. At 25 °C, diesel/kerosene blends demonstrated a SoS variation ranging from 1322.91 m/s (0.6 diesel volume fraction) to 1349.79 m/s (diesel fuel only), whereas hydrous ethanol samples varied between 1199.92 m/s (0.95 ethanol volume fraction) to 1149.39 m/s (pure ethanol only). Finally, assessments for 95 and 100 research octane number (RON) gasoline blends showed a SoS range from 1134.42 m/s (RON 95) to 1159.86 m/s (RON 100). The high precision and repeatability (relative uncertainty: ∼10-4) of the performed SoS measurements in controlled samples, has demonstrated the promising potential of OPTICS for the evaluation of fuel physical properties as well as the potential detection of contamination with adulterants.

Analysis of Combustion Characteristics in Boilers Using Comparison of Coal Fuel Mixtures and Bark Biomass To Determine Optimal Combustion Conditions in a Steam Power Plant

Currently, several material production industries have used self-sustaining power generation systems. Where the most common steam power plant system is found as an option to be used as a source of electricity. The use of biomass as an additional material for fuel in power plant has been widely carried out. This method is more commonly known as cofiring. Analysis of the cofiring combustion system of biomass in the boiler needs to be carried out in order to determine the characteristics of the combustion system that occurs. By varying the composition of the fuel, an analysis of the energy produced from the combustion reaction will be calculated. In this study, the comparison of the use of coal and wood bark was varied at conditions 80:20, 70:30, 60:40, 50:50, 40:60, 30:70, 20:80. Assuming that the steam rate and temperature conditions to be achieved from the combustion products are constant. From the results of the analysis it was found that an increase in the amount of cofiring bark resulted in a decrease in the heating value of the combustion reaction and an increase in fuel capacity. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of bark cofiring in boilers with a coal design is less effective because it will require additional energy to increase the fuel consumption rate and reduce combustion efficiency due to not achieving optimal combustion energy because the initial design combustion chamber capacity is fixed.

Analysis of combustion characteristics of wood stack and absolute ethanol in fire extinguishing experiment

For the purpose of researching the rules of combustion heat release, ammonium phosphate dry powder extinguishing agent and water-based fire extinguishing agent were utilized before and after the class A fire common wood stack ignition fuel and class B fire anhydrous ethanol ignition fuel fire extinguishing. For wood stack fire, 0.5A wood stack was used for blank combustion test, and the pan fire ignition method for the same type and scale of wood stack fire extinguishing experiment. For absolute ethanol fire, fire suppression was studied using a 13B scale. The change characteristics of the combustion field before and after action of the dry powder extinguishing agent and water system extinguishing agent were measured by thermocouple, heat flow meter and digital camera. The findings of the experiment demonstrated that in the combustion experiment of wood stack, the temperature of 0.5A wood stack of the blank group could reach 800 °C, and the temperature reduction rate of free combustion was 2.62 °C/s. It took an average of 36.5s and 2.25 kg of ammonium phosphate dry powder to put out the fire，and the temperature reduction rate was 4.18 °C/s. The average amount of water-based extinguishing agent used to extinguish a fire was 1.21 kg, yet the average time to do so was just 12.5 s, and the average rate of temperature drop was 10.14 °C/s. In the experiment where an ethanol pool fire was being burned, the typical amount of water-based fire extinguishing chemical used was 3.44 kg, and the typical extinguishing time was 18 s, the maximum temperature drop rate could reach 35.6 °C/s in the initial stage of fire extinguishing, despite the fact that the dry powder fire extinguisher containing ammonium phosphate was used, the fire was not properly controlled.

Wavelet analysis of combustion characteristics and numerical validation of CI engine with novel water emulsified fuels

This study examined the dependability of running a diesel engine on a novel water-emulsified diesel fuel with prolonged phase stability investigation. In order to develop a stable water emulsified fuel, experiments were conducted to standardize the composition ratios. The water-in-diesel emulsions were prepared using the surfactant named “Propylene Glycol Monostearate” along with Tween80 and Octanol was also chosen as co-emulsifier in order to enhance the phase stability. Using water-emulsified diesel fuel with the designations E0, E10, E20, E30, E40, and E50, the combustion stability using statistical and wavelet method were assessed on a 1-cylinder, 4-stroke CI engine. Even after being prepared for 100 days at room temperature, all water-in-diesel emulsions were discovered to be stable and homogenous. Moreover, to validate the combustion metrices such as in-cylinder pressure and HRR, a MATLAB-based single-zone thermodynamic model was developed. The combustion stability analyses using statistical method showed that the COV was found below 5 % at all loading conditions except E0 emulsion fuel whereas, the wavelet approach revealed that the E0 emulsion fuel's wavelet power spectrum (WPS) result showed a major intensity variance at high frequencies and lower frequencies for other emulsions and diesel 25 and 50 % loading condition. The analysis of the Global Wavelet Spectrum (GWS) results revealed that E0 exhibited higher peak power compared to diesel and other test fuels at 25 % and 50 % load conditions. The WPS and GWS results for E30 and E50 emulsion showed a similar trend as diesel fuel at all tested loading conditions implying a stable combustion with water-emulsified diesel. On the other hand, the prediction model anticipated the numerical values and was computed to be in strong conformity with the outcomes of the experiment. All numerical values lay within 95 % of the prediction band in regression analysis with an R2 value of 99.8 % and standard error (S = 0622) suggesting strong significant data and a better thermodynamic simulation model. In conclusion, PGM + Tween 80 could be used as a potential emulsifier to prepare stable water-in-diesel emulsion and Wavelet analysis proves to be a valuable tool for evaluating the cyclic variation observed in engine combustion. Additionally, the thermodynamic model is capable of providing accurate predictions of the engine combustion parameters.

Design and combustion characteristics analysis of a static shaft turbofan engine

Abstract A design scheme of a static shaft turbofan engine is proposed to meet the requirements of light weight and large thrust weight ratio of small aeroengine. As the core component of stable combustion, the thermal protection problem of the mid-mounted combustion chamber is particularly prominent. This paper designs a mid-mounted combustion chamber configuration that combines gas film cooling and central combustion. The influence of structural parameters on combustion characteristics is explored by numerical simulation, and the theoretical design and numerical simulation is verified based on combustion test results. The results show that the flame shape of the mid-mounted combustion chamber conforms to the characteristics of central combustion. The combustion effect of the nozzle with spray angle of 45° and flow rate of 1.87 kg/h meets the requirements of secondary combustion of the static shaft turbofan engine, and the air inlet of the combustion liner effectively increases the thickness of the cooling gas film. The experimental results are in good agreement with the numerical simulation results, and the temperature of the combustion liner wall can be reduced effectively. The above research provides a theoretical basis for the combustion chamber design of small static shaft turbofan engines and a reference for the thermal protection methods of small aeroengine combustion chambers.

Comparative Analysis of Combustion Characteristics of a CFB Boiler during the Changes Process between High-Rated Loads and Low-Rated Loads

In order to alleviate problems such as large fluctuations in grid load caused by the high proportion of renewable energy, circulating fluidized bed (CFB) power plants undertake the task of rated load regulation. This study discussed the combustion characteristics of a 100 KW CFB boiler during the operation process of varying loads and analyzes the combustion characteristics, load regulation rate and emissions variation law during the operation process of high- and low-rated load intervals. The experimental results showed that under the condition of a high-rated load, the average temperature of each area in the furnace was proportional to the size of the load. Under low-rated load conditions, the temperature change increased first and then decreased with the reduction in load. In the 30% load stage, the lowest temperature in the riser was 740 °C, while the temperature in the loop seal was even as low as 650 °C. The concentrations of O2, CO and unburned carbon mainly depended on the combustion reaction intensity under each load condition, which showed a higher trend at low load (30%). In terms of NOx emission, it was proportional to the load in the high-rated load range. However, the NOx generation at the 30% load was about 30 mg/Nm3(@6%O2) higher than the 50% load. In addition, the regulation load rate (2.5%/min) between high-load conditions exhibited significantly greater than that between low-load conditions (0.78%/min). Therefore, the low-load operation will face problems such as low furnace temperature, uneven gas–solid fluidization, and difficult control of pollutant generation, which need to be paid attention to during operation.

Mixing and combustion characteristics analysis for solid rocket ramjet

It is of great significance to study the mixing combustion characteristics of solid rocket ramjet for better organizing the secondary combustion of the air flowing into the inlet and the combustion-rich gas, enhancing the mixing degree of the supplementary combustion chamber, and improving the combustion efficiency. In this paper, the L-W model is used as the boron particles ignition combustion model. Combined with the UDF function of fluent, the boron particle ignition combustion program is self-programmed, the finite rate/eddy dissipation model is used as the gas combustion model, and the Realizable k-e turbulence model is used as the turbulence model. The numerical simulation was carried out under the cold flow state and the hot flow state, and the flow field distribution and parameters were obtained, and the mixing characteristics were analyzed. The error of simulation results and test results shows that that the numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results. By comparing the combustion efficiency and mixing degree, it is found that generally, When the mixing effect is not good, the combustion efficiency must be bad; When the mixing effect is good and the mixing degree is high, the combustion efficiency may be high.

Experimental investigation of combustion characteristics analysis and optimization during the turbocharging mode switching process of diesel engine with advanced turbocharging system

Multi-turbocharger system is one of the major enablers of modern diesel engine performance. To meet the boosting requirements under different operating conditions is the difficulty. The two-stage sequential turbocharging (TSST) system creates the flexibility to select the turbocharging mode so that the engine benefits from efficiency and power density. However, the critical issue at hand is the unstable running, or even worse, misfire, of the engine caused by the abrupt air path shifts during the turbocharging mode switching process. Therefore, the control of the switching process is an indispensable procedure to apply the TSST system. The previous studies mainly focused on turbocharging system parameters. The combustion characteristics during switching process have been underestimated. The combustion process is influenced by the fuel and charging variations during the transient process, and it is unique compared with the steady state. In this paper, the experiments of TSST system switching process were carried out to investigate the transient combustion characteristics, formation mechanism of its fluctuation, and optimal control. The experimental results indicate that the combustion present fluctuation during the direct switching process. The main features are the generation and extinction of premixed combustion, combining the degradation and recovery of mixing-controlled combustion. The cycle history of heat-release center (CA50) presents a 3-phase fluctuation of moving backward from 9.7°CA to11.2°CA, then forward to 6.2°CA, and finally backward to 10.7°CA. The boost pressure trough is the primary factor contributing to incomplete combustion. The lowest gross indicated efficiency of 33.9 % happened at the lowest air-fuel ratio cycle. Based on the corresponding results, the substantial improvement in combustion can be ensured by regulating the switch valves in air path. When the intake switch valve opens 0.9 s later than the exhaust switch valve, the system exhibits minimal parameter fluctuations and the quickest recovery capacity. The coefficients of variation for IMEPg and CA50 are 2.7 % and 4.6 %, respectively, guaranteeing at least 39.7 % fuel conversion efficiency and only 17 cycles to reach the steady state.

Enrichment of Residual Carbon in Coal Gasification Fine Slag via Wet Sieving Separation with Ultrasonic Pretreatment.

To overcome the environmental and economic challenges posed by the increasing amounts of the coal gasification slag, here, a simple and efficient method for enriching the residual carbon from the coal gasification fine slag was proposed. The residual carbon enrichment pattern in the particle size distribution of coal gasification fine slags after the ultrasonic pretreatment was mainly enriched toward the 500-250 μm and 250-125 μm particle size classes by analyzing the changes in the particle size distribution and apparent morphology. The pulp pretreatment at the ultrasonic output power of 270 W for 4 min was determined as the optimal experimental condition with respect to the yield, ash content, and ash rejection of the concentrates. Compared to the conventional wet sieving separation, the yield and ash content of the final concentrates were reduced by 7.99 and 14.96%, respectively. Moreover, the ash rejection of the final concentrates was as high as 88.51%, indicating an increment of 11.63% than the conventional wet sieving separation. Furthermore, thermogravimetric analysis confirmed that the final concentrates exhibited the lowest reactivity; however, these demonstrated had the highest carbon content (nearly 70%) with 27.27% ash content. The combustion characteristics analysis showed that the wet screening concentrate after ultrasonic pretreatment had the highest composite combustion characteristic index (S) of 3.17 × 10-8, as compared to the raw and conventional sieving concentrates.

Analysis of combustion characteristics under cooled EGR in the hydrogen-fueled Wankel rotary engine

Hydrogen-fueled Wankel rotary engine (HWRE), as a high power density and eco-friendly internal combustion engine, has the potential to become an alternative for gasoline-fueled piston engines. Cooled EGR, as an effective means of improving engine performance, is less studied based on HWRE. However, due to the different operating way and structure, the flame development and propagation of WRE are significantly different from those of the piston engine, so may the effect of cooled EGR. Hence, the goal of present work is to analyze the effect of cooled EGR on the combustion characteristics of HWRE. This work is conducted under 1500 r/min and wide-open throttle conditions. The results show that when the ignition timing and excess air ratio are fixed at 5°CA ATDC and 1, the cooled EGR level has a significant influence on the combustion process and operating stability. In addition, when maximum brake torque CA50 is employed, within test range, whether stoichiometric or lean combustion, both the brake torque and brake thermal efficiency are monotonous to the cooled EGR level. And cooled EGR can achieve high brake thermal efficiency compared with lean combustion at the same brake torque. Compared with the hydrogen-fueled piston engine, HWRE allows for a higher cooled EGR level whether in terms of efficiency or power output considerations. In general, the cooled EGR can be used as an excellent load control means to achieve high efficiency of HWRE.

Co-hydrothermal carbonization of corn stover and food waste: Characterization of hydrochar, synergistic effects, and combustion characteristic analysis

Hydrochar was prepared via the co-hydrothermal carbonization (Co-HTC) method using corn stover (CS) and food waste (FW) as materials, and the influences of the synergistic effect of Co-HTC on fuel performances and combustion behavior were analyzed. Characterization of hydrochar was conducted using elemental analysis, industrial analysis, SEM, BET, XRD, and FTIR. The outcomes indicated that the higher heating values (HHVs) of hydrochar increased, the atomic ratios of H/C and O/C decreased, the fuel ratios ranged from 0.33 to 0.57, and the average pore diameter decreased when the FW ratio was increased. The synergistic effect of Co-HTC of CS and FW improved hydrochar yield, energy yield, organics retention, and C capture efficiency. Thermogravimetric and kinetic analysis showed that Co-HTC improves the combustion characteristics of hydrochar. Thus, production of hydrochar via Co-HTC of CS and FW provides some guidance for the resourcing and reducing solid organic waste, and offers a promising direction for renewable energy production.

An attempt to implement partially premixed combustion strategy in a multi-cylinder CRDI engine: A detailed experimental and wavelet transform analysis

The main objective of this research was to effectively employ the n-butanol fuel in advanced combustion strategy ‘partially premixed combustion (PPC)’ and provide the maximum possible replacement of diesel fuel. An experimental study was conducted on a multi-cylinder turbocharged intercooler CRDI engine to optimize the injection timings and diesel/n-butanol blended fuels based on performance, emissions, and combustion characteristics, including cyclic variability, in order to achieve the PPC strategy without compromising thermal efficiency significantly. The combustion characteristics analysis indicate that adding n-butanol fuel into diesel fuel combined with advanced injection (16° CA BTDC) timing leads to a drastic decrease in smoke emission as well as increases in NOX emission than diesel fuel. However, DB20 fuel at 8° CA BTDC injection timing achieved low-temperature PPC mode and reduced NOX (8.08%↓) and smoke (48%↓) emissions simultaneously compared to diesel fuel at 2 bar BMEP engine load. In addition, wavelet power spectrum (WPS) and global wavelet spectrum (GWS) analysis were utilized to investigate the temporal and spectral fluctuations in the partially premixed combustion parameter (indicated mean effective pressure) at optimum injection timing (8° CA BTDC). Results reveal that DB20 possesses lesser cyclic variations with higher frequency (at period 2–6 cycles) intermittent fluctuation in partially premixed combustion at 2 bar BMEP engine load than other tested fuels. A statistical analysis of IMEP variations was also performed to validate the temporal variation in the IMEP time-series signals of the WPS results. The results of WPS could be used to establish an efficient engine control method based on in-cylinder pressure feedback.

Effect of induction on exhaust gas recirculation and hydrogen gas in compression ignition engine with simarouba oil in dual fuel mode

Biofuels extracted from non-edible oil is sustainable and can be used as an alternative fuel for internal combustion engines. This study presents the performance, emission and combustion characteristic analysis by using simarouba oil (obtained from Simarouba seed) as an alternative fuel along with hydrogen and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) in a compression ignition (CI) engine operating on dual fuel mode. Simarouba biofuel blend (B20) was prepared on volumetric basis by mixing simarouba oil and diesel in the proportion of 20% and 80% (v/v), respectively. Hydrogen gas was introduced at the flow rate of 2.67 kg/min, and EGR concentration was maintained at 30% of total air introduction. Performance, combustion and emission characteristics analysis were examined with biodiesel (B20), biodiesel with hydrogen substitution and biodiesel, hydrogen with EGR and were compared with neat diesel operation. Results indicate that BTE of the engine operating with biodiesel B20 was decreased when compared to neat diesel operation. However, introducing hydrogen along with B20 blend into the combustion chamber shows a slight increase in the BTE by 1%. NOx emission was increased to 18.13% with the introduction of hydrogen than that of base fuel (diesel) operation. With the introduction of EGR, there is a significant reduction in NOx emission due to decrease in in-cylinder temperature by 19.07%. A significant reduction in CO, CO2, and smoke emissions were also noted with the introduction of both hydrogen and EGR. The ignition delay and combustion duration were increased with the introduction of hydrogen, EGR with biodiesel than neat diesel operation. Hence, the proposed biodiesel B20 with H2 and EGR combination can be applied as an alternative fuel in CI engines.
