Modernising Supply Chain Analytics with Demand Forecasting Engine

In todays’ dynamic market landscape accurate demand forecasting plays a role, in optimizing supply chain operations reducing inventory expenses and improving customer satisfaction. The article is a case study of one of the leading automotive spare parts manufacturers with thousands of products. The main aim of the study is to forecast the demand of the factory on bi-weekly basis and monthly basis, compare the performance metrics with different forecast approaches and suggest suitable model.

Spatiotemporal and Multilayer Trade Network Patterns of the Global Cobalt Cycle.

Recent years have witnessed increasing attempts to track trade flows of critical materials across world regions and along the life cycle for renewable energy and the low carbon transition. Previous studies often had limited spatiotemporal coverage, excluded end-use products, and modeled different life cycle stages as single-layer networks. Here, we integrated material flow analysis and complex network analysis into a multilayer framework to characterize the spatiotemporal and multilayer trade network patterns of the global cobalt cycle from 1988 to 2020. We found substantial growth and notable structural changes in global cobalt trade over the past 30 years. China, Germany, and the United States play pivotal roles in different layers and stages of the global cobalt cycle. The interlayer relationships among alloys, batteries, and materials are robust and continually strengthening, indicating a trend toward synergistic trade. However, cobalt ore-exporting countries are highly concentrated and rarely involved in later life cycle stages, resulting in the weakest relationship between the ore layer and other layers. This causes fluctuations and uncertainty in the global cobalt trade. Our model, linking industrial ecology, supply chain analysis, and network analysis, can be extended to other materials that are critical for the future green transition.

Low-carbon strategy analysis in a construction supply chain considering government subsidies and contract design

This study establishes a low-carbon construction supply chain (CSC) composed of a developer and a contractor. The developer invests in low-carbon promotion (LCP) to give consumers more accurate information about the project's low-carbon aspects. The contractor invests in low-carbon construction technology (LCT) with the intention of reducing carbon emissions. This paper explores the investment strategies and cooperative behaviors of developers and contractors from the perspective of government subsidies and further studies the conditions that affect the successful implementation of cost-sharing contracts between the developer and contractor. This study considers four decision-making scenarios: decentralized decision-making without government subsidies, decentralized decision-making with government subsidies, unilateral cost-sharing contract (UCC) with government subsidies, and bilateral cost-sharing contract (BCC) with government subsidies. The findings indicate that: (1) The contractor's LCT investment has a better optimization effect on CSC than the developer's LCP investment. (2) When only government subsidies are implemented, subsidizing contractors is more conducive to the optimization of CSC. When UCC and BCC are further introduced, subsidizing developers becomes more beneficial. Moreover, excessively high subsidy standards are not conducive to the sustainable development of CSC. (3) UCC and BCC both hold the potential for Pareto improvements within CSC, with success contingent upon specific conditions, and BCC tends to achieve better optimization than UCC. (4) The marginal profits of developers and contractors primarily drive the effectiveness of contracts. CSC's sustainability is jeopardized by cost-sharing ratios that are either excessively high or too low. This study provides a robust theoretical foundation for promoting low-carbon cooperation among members of CSC and formulating government subsidy policies.

Analysis of the National Formulary Drug Supply Chain with Its Availability in the Pharmacy Installation of the Government General Hospital (RSUD) Dr. Sitanala Tangerang City

This study explores the pharmaceutical supply chain management of the National Formulary at RSUP Dr. Sitanala in Tangerang City, aiming to identify obstacles to drug availability and formulate effective and efficient solutions. Acknowledging quality healthcare as a fundamental human right and a critical investment for a nation's future, this research emphasizes the importance of high-quality healthcare services. These services encompass not only treatment but also health promotion and disease prevention through the adoption of clean and healthy living habits. Drug availability is a major pillar in the provision of quality healthcare services. Effective and efficient management of the pharmaceutical supply chain, particularly regarding National Formulary drugs, is crucial in ensuring the availability of medications at healthcare facilities. This research employs a comprehensive analysis of the supply chain processes at RSUP Dr. Sitanala, examining stages such as drug selection, demand planning, procurement, receipt, storage, distribution, drug control, therapy monitoring, prescription preparation, drug dispensation, and medication administration. The study's methodology involves a case study approach, integrating theoretical management principles and interdisciplinary pharmacy management with compliance to regulations, as outlined in Permenkes No. 76 of 2016. Findings from RSUP Dr. Sitanala indicate that the hospital's pharmaceutical management practices align with contemporary health and pharmacy management theories, emphasizing structured systems, stringent verification, and effective interprofessional communication to ensure medication safety and efficacy. The study identifies challenges in information technology and interdisciplinary coordination as areas needing improvement. Nonetheless, a commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to regulatory standards reflects RSUP Dr. Sitanala's dedication to enhancing the quality of pharmaceutical management and healthcare services. The implications of this research extend beyond RSUP Dr. Sitanala, offering valuable recommendations for improving drug supply chain management in other healthcare institutions in Indonesia. By enhancing access to and the quality of healthcare services, this study contributes to the broader goal of achieving the highest possible level of health for individuals, reflecting the perspective of human rights and investment in the nation's future health.

Supply Chain Analysis of Municipal Solid Waste Released in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City of Nepal

In Nepal, solid waste management is one of the major environmental issues, especially in the urban areas. While solid waste management (SWM) has become a major concern for municipalities and the country as a whole, the status of SWM is not fully understood due to the lack of SWM baseline data, which are also essential for effective planning. Such a back drop, this research attempts to assess the plastic waste released, management and recycling in supply chain in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City. This study revealed that about 83.8% households segregate their waste. None of the surveyed households have had public waste collection bin nearby their home whereas all households have had knowledge on solid waste management. About 63% HHs heard of importance of plastic waste recycling and all express their readiness to segregate the plastic solid waste if recycling program is set up in municipal area. Per capita waste generation per day is 141 gm out of which about 15% is plastic waste. On an average daily waste released at household level are 0.8 kg/HH which is 28.1 kg per institution. Total wastes release per day from Hetauda city is 27.4 MT and 10006.8 MT per year. About 931 MT plastic per year are gone in dumping sites in the Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City. This study suggests that municipal office needs to develop an appropriate policy and strategy framework together with technical guidelines on key issues such as organic composting, recycling and landfill operation from dumping sites. Digitisation of franchising supply chain impact on franchisor performance: a longitudinal case study of a coffee retail chain

PurposeFranchising contributes significantly to national economies but is overlooked in supply chain literature. This study aims to contribute to the franchising and supply chain literature by examining how the digitisation of the franchising supply chain improves firm performance.Design/methodology/approachA single longitudinal case study approach was selected to investigate how a leading coffee brand digitised its franchising supply chain. Resource constraints theory and agency theory provide the theoretical framework. Data collection included both qualitative and quantitative data. Over two years, chronological, supply chain and thematic analyses and interpretation uncovered important findings and developed four research propositions.FindingsFindings show that digitisation can impact performance in eight areas: Resource management, Resource constraints, Efficiency, Business-to-Business (B2B)/Business-To-Customer (B2C) links, Rapid expansion, Risk mitigation, Information asymmetries and Faster supply chain responses. Four digital technologies (advanced analytics, Internet of Things, Autonomous Mobile Robots and B2B e-shop) impacted three franchisor functions (Machine maintenance, Inventory management, Franchisee and end-customer relations). The study develops four research propositions on how digitisation impacts performance in terms of (1) resource monitoring and control, (2) learning and knowledge creation, (3) coordination and collaboration and (4) competition.Originality/valueFranchising supply chains have been overlooked in the literature; this study provides insights into using resource constraints theory and agency theory complementarily to explain supply chain digitisation and provides actionable practical implications for selecting, implementing and continuously improving Industry 4.0 technologies in franchising supply chains.

This study aims to 1) determine the flow of products, finance and information of orchid commodities and their impact on sales in Pasar Rawa Belong Jakarta and 2) determine marketing efficiency according to marketing margins and farmer's share. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative descriptive is used to determine the product flow, financial flow and information flow of vanda douglas orchid in Pamulang Sub-district while quantitative is used to determine the marketing efficiency of vanda douglas orchid in Pamulang based on marketing margin and farmer's share. The sampling technique was purposive sampling for farmers, village collectors, wholesalers and retailers. Data analysis techniques used are descriptive analysis and marketing margin analysis. The results showed that there were four marketing channels formed in the orchid supply chain in Pamulang District consisting of product flow, financial flow and information flow in each marketing channel. Marketing channel III is the most efficient channel with a marketing efficiency value of 3.36% and has entered the criteria <5%, the total marketing margin value of Rp 300 / stem and the farmer's share value of 85%.

Linking hypothetical extraction, the accumulation of production factors, and the addition of value

AbstractIn industrial ecology, approaches have been developed to analyze the contribution of specific sectors to environmental impacts within supply chains. In economics, a range of methods addresses the forward linkage (use of output) and backward linkage (dependency on inputs) of sectors, and the analysis of key sectors. This article offers a formal investigation of the relationship between these. It shows that both the analysis of supply chain impacts and of intersectoral linkages can be seen as special cases of a more general hypothetical extraction method (HEM). In HEM, sectors' role is assessed as the effect of their removal on the input–output model's solution. HEM also allows for the (partial) extraction of individual transactions. HEM thus offers a flexible approach to assessing the contribution of one or several sectors, or transactions, or parts thereof, to value added or footprint of any final demand. It can be applied to study the environmental footprints of companies or intermediate products, the contribution of certain inputs to sectors, or the potential impact of disruptions of supply chains on producers and consumers. In this article, the price model for HEM is introduced to identify the contribution of the extracted (target) sectors to the price or unit footprint of a commodity.

Planning natural gas supply chain pathways for energy system decarbonisation: An Australian case study

The future role of natural gas systems in a deeply decarbonised world is very uncertain. This work seeks to characterise the changes that the clean energy transition is likely to induce in the natural gas chain, across extraction and transmission, distribution networks and gas consumption/use trends, for various scenarios with different demand and supply drivers. First, the results of a least-cost macro-scale energy system planning optimisation are explored to identify future natural gas demand and supply requirements. Second, those findings are used as inputs to a detailed analysis of the full gas supply chain, from extraction to final use, to examine the evolution of i) stored resource levels; ii) transmission and distribution networks operation and financing; and iii) required capacity and siting of gas generation; all, with a realistic account of the related infrastructure. Australia is investigated as a case study that relies on natural gas for both domestic and export purposes. Results project a shift towards a more localised gas consumption to be largely supplied by fewer basins, with associated potential transmission and extraction bottlenecks. They anticipate an overall less utilised, ageing distribution network with potential challenges to asset reliability and financing. Finally, they demonstrate both the scheduled and early retirement of fossil generation assets can allow the siting of considerable amounts of new gas power firming capacity on brownfield sites, thus offering an opportunity to reduce total system costs.

Performance measurement of organic tea supply chain with supply chain operation references (Case study of active tegal subur farmer group, Kulon Progo)

Tegal Subur Aktif Farmer Group is one of the organic tea producers located in Menoreh Hills, precisely in Nglinggo, Pagerharjo, Samigaluh, Kulon Progo. The efforts carried out by this farmer group include the procurement of tea ingredients, the provision of production facilities, the cultivation and maintenance of tea plants, the processing of agricultural products and trade in general. Processed organic tea products, such as green, black, yellow, and roasted, are produced. Farmer groups have uncertain orders that can only be fulfilled partially, which can still affect customer satisfaction. In total, there are 95.39% of uncertain orders that can be fulfilled in the period August 2021 – March 2022. This is related to production planning with actual production caused by uncertain or regular supply of raw materials. If the collection of raw material supply is still carried out, it causes cost losses in collecting raw materials. The Tegal Subur Aktif Farmer Group has never measured its supply chain performance. If measurement is not carried out, supply chain performance may develop slowly. This study aims to measure the organic tea supply chain's performance and determine which indicators need improvement. This research uses the Supply Chain Operation References (SCOR) and Analysis Hierarchy Process (AHP) methods. Based on the data processing carried out, by measuring supply chain performance with Supply Chain Operation References (SCOR) and Analysis Hierarchy Process (AHP), the supply chain performance of the Active Tegal Subur Farmer Group can be improved.

A systematic analysis of digital supply chain, big data and manufacturing lean time in industrial companies

PurposeThis paper aims to systematically review the literature on digital supply chain (DSC), big data (BD) and manufacturing lead time (MLT) in industrial companies.Design/methodology/approachThis study provides a systematic review of the 99 research on this subject that was published between 2015 and 2022. Studies were found in the Scopus database. This review also identifies gaps in the literature, highlights conflicting results, examines prospective data sources for empirical researchers and offers suggestions for choosing promising research subjects in the future.FindingsThis study performed a thorough literature review to a developing field of inquiry in order to identify the impact of the digital supply chain, BD and manufacturing lean time, an area that has received little attention in the literature. Future pathways and ramifications are also offered based on the literature content search. The results showed that BD improves DSC performance through resilience and innovation of the DSC. MLT and DSC integration were found to be positively correlated, according to the results.Originality/valueAlthough the production lead time is preferable to boost customer value and supply reliability, the long lead time hurts the DSC’s ability to compete. DSC integration also improves coordination and streamlines processes. The researchers suggest fostering organizational flexibility, information exchange to accomplish DSC integration and adaptable behaviors including responsiveness and alertness.

Research on Supply Chain Development Trends of New Energy Vehicles --Taking BYD and Tesla as Examples

In the current global environment, supply chain uncertainty has increased, leading to a decline in supply chain stability, and even problems such as partial supply chain breaks, poor information, and rising comprehensive costs. This paper studies the current situation of the new energy vehicle market, selects two typical enterprises in this industry - BYD and Tesla for supply chain analysis, and finds that the supply chain of new energy vehicles faces many risks, such as unstable supply of raw materials and external environmental impacts. After further analysing the risks faced by the supply chain of new energy vehicles, the future development trend of the supply chain of new energy vehicles is proposed, as well as the conclusion that new energy vehicles will develop in the direction of sustainability, diversity and innovation.
