Summary Introduction Development science doubtless serves to everyday life of peoples. We must however remember that of many inventions except one's own huge advantages possesses also activities undesirable. Aim The aim of this research was to estimate the effect of air on voice in people who professionally use it in air-conditioned spaces. Material and methods The research included 22 patients (16 women and 6 men) between the ages of 20–27. These people were selected during prophylactic examinations before they began working with their voice in air-conditioned spaces throughout the whole year. The control group, similar in quantity, comprised of teachers of the lecturing in humanities in schools lacking air-conditioned rooms. 18 women and 4 men between the ages 25–29 qualified for this research group. Estimations of voice one executed at help of phoniatrics examinations in frames of preventive examinations before with beginning to work and after 10 months. Complex analysis embraced subjective examinations: GRBAS, laryngostroboscopic and voice handicap index (VHI) and objective: maximum phonation time, intensity of voice, analysis with acoustic. Results The research results found in the tables clearly indicate that after 10 months of work in air-conditioned spaces, the voice of the observed individuals has worsened significantly. The particularly valuable summary of the voice quality evaluation, both subjective and objective performed by the authors of this work, is the outcome of the voice handicap index. The presented table documents that 77.3% of the examined group, after 10 months of work, felt actual influence of voice disorders on their functional, emotional and physical state. At the same time, only 18.2% teachers from the control group reported the presence of voice disorders having noticeable influence on their family, professional, and social life. Conclusions Work involving using the voice for many hours in airconditioned spaces inevitably leads to voice disorders in the majority of people staying there. Popularity and availability of air-conditioning devices brings about their installation not only in places of work, but also in spaces where we stay for the remaining part of the day (coffee shops, cinemas, shops etc.), that is why we ought to counteract the negative effects of this benefactor.
