Evaluation Of Instructional Materials Packets For Iowa Secondary School Agricultural Education Programs

Instructional materials for secondary programs in agricultural education have evolved in recent years to include computer and VCR player/recorder technology. At the same time, the more traditional instructional materials such as slide/tapes, filmstrips, transparencies, instructional units, skill sheets, books and booklets continue to be used in classrooms and laboratories. Varrella (1989) stated, ...there is a wealth of instructional material available to use that will serve many of our needs, if we can only access that material effectively and use it efficiently.”

Life Satisfaction Of Retired West Virginia Secondary School Agriculture Teachers

Retirement is for many a time of fulfillment and great personal satisfaction, while for others it is a time of frustration and isolation. An individual’s perception and satisfaction with life in retirement has been shown to be related to factors such as gender, age, religiosity, attitude toward work, retirement income, health, types of and time spent in activities, leisure satisfaction, mobility, marital status, housing, years in retirement, and retirement planning (Atchley, 1985, and Russell, 1984). Relationships between life satisfaction and situations, characteristics, and activities of the retired have been of great interest to social scientists for the past 40 years (Lohmann, 1980 and Russell, 1984).

Use of soil survey reports by secondary school educators in Indiana

Soil survey reports are readily available and an importnt source of soils information for each Indiana county. This information has great potential value to both rural and urban young men and women and could easily be taught in the secondary schools. Awareness, use, and attitude of Indiana secondary school agriculture and social science educators toward soil survey reports were determined using a mailed questionnaire. Results were analyzed based on teaching discipline and geographic location (urban and rural). In general, social science respondents were not aware of and did not use soil survey reports as a teaching aid, whereas agriculture respondents did. The majority of educators responded positively to statements regarding usefulness of soil surveys. No significant differences were found between urban and rural areas. Results indicated that teaching discipline was the critical factor determining educator use of soil surveys.

A Laboratory Manual of Agriculture for Secondary Schools

THIS book is issued to supply the demand that has arisen for laboratory exercises in the teaching of agriculture in the United States. Directly agriculture becomes a school subject (and it is for secondary schools that the book is intended), it becomes necessary that the teacher should be provided with a number of simple experiments within the capacity of the scholars and of the school equipment. Of course, the out-door observations must still remain the essential groundwork of the instruction, but a weil-chosen course of laboratory experiments can be arranged to bring out the main principles and illustrate the working of the individual factors involved.
