Effect of farmland cost on the scale efficiency of agricultural production based on farmland price deviation

The relationship between agricultural production factor prices and production performance has long been a topic of academic discussion. However, current research has paid relatively little attention to the problem of scale efficiency losses in agricultural production caused by deviations in farmland prices. In order to explore the development direction needed to improve China's agricultural competitiveness, we analyzed the deviation mechanism of farmland prices in China and the loss of scale efficiency of agricultural production due to high farmland prices, starting from the perspective of farmland price deviation. Accordingly, based on 1188 micro-farm household survey samples, a threshold regression model was used to provide empirical support for our theoretical analysis in two dimensions: full samples and differentiation of farmland use types. The empirical results show that the problem of high farmland prices prevails throughout China, with the mean farmland price deviation (abbreviated as DEV) in Chinese provinces reaching 1.42, and it is especially high in Shandong (1.88), Henan (1.67), and Heilongjiang (1.59). The deviation is mainly caused by China's special resource endowment and farming culture. At the same time, the current scale efficiency of agricultural production in Chinese provinces is inadequate, with a mean value of only 0.70, and approximately 65% of farmers' actual input size is significantly lower than the optimal input size. The threshold effect test shows that the effect of farmland cost increase on agricultural production scale efficiency exhibits a structural shift from promoting to inhibiting as the degree of farmland price changes from low to high. In particular, in the scenario of overpriced farmland (DEV ≥ 1.16), farmland cost increase inhibits the growth of China's agricultural production scale efficiency. In addition, there is heterogeneity across farmland uses, with grain crops being more likely to be scale-efficient (0.74) than nongrain crops (0.62). The threshold regression results between the grain and nongrain groups further reveal that in the high farmland price scenario, grain crops are more severely inhibited by the rising cost of farmland than nongrain crops. Ultimately, we propose an optimal solution to improve the performance of agricultural production in China in two dimensions: reducing farmland cost and promoting service scale operation.

Factors influencing the financing behavior of large professional households engaged in green agricultural production in China.

Green agriculture is the direction of sustainable development of China's modern agriculture and the inherent requirement of taking the road of characteristic new agricultural modernization. As one of the main bodies of new agricultural management, professional large households are of great significance to lead the development of efficient agriculture and accelerate the development of green agricultural economy in Heilongjiang. Therefore, based on the theory of planned behavior, this article includes 275 major professional households in Heilongjiang Province as a sample of demonstration counties (cities) for green, high-quality, and efficient creation, combined with field research data and structural equation model, and discusses the willingness of large professional households to participate in green agricultural production financing and behavioral factors and mechanisms of action. The perceived behavior control (PBC), attitude toward the behavior (AB), and subjective norms (SNs) of large professional households to engage in green agricultural production determine their financing intentions (FNs), which further determines their financing behavior (FB). The results show that PBC, AB, and SN have a significant positive impact on the FN of large professional households, and further indirectly affect the FB. It should be noted that SNs have the most significant impact on the FN of large professional households to participate in green agricultural production. Therefore, it is necessary to establish effective government propaganda measures and preferential policies, improve the awareness of the importance of green agricultural production financing, and create a good social atmosphere for agricultural sustainable development and active participation in financing. The purpose of this study is to provide a reference for policymakers to formulate relevant policies to cultivate major professional households and develop green agricultural economy in Heilongjiang Province.

Influencing Factors and Countermeasures of Cross-border E-commerce Export of Agricultural Products in China

Agricultural products have always been China's traditional trade products, but the export situation of agricultural products in China in recent years is not optimistic. With the rapid development of the Internet economy, cross-border e-commerce as a new trade model is rising rapidly, and China's agricultural exports are also affected. Due to the imperfection of the cross-border logistics system and logistics technology, the asymmetric information access of both parties, the inconsistent quality standards of agricultural products export, and the lack of relevant talent reserves in the cross-border e-commerce export of agricultural products, these problems hinder the further development of the cross-border e-commerce export of agricultural products. This paper puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions for these problems to promote the better development of cross-border e-commerce export of agricultural products.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE INNOVATIVE INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM OF CHINA AND UKRAINE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION

Agriculture is one of the key branches of the country's economy, as it provides the population with food, raw materials and other resources. Particularly important is the role of innovative information and communication technologies in the development of agricultural production, which allow optimizing production processes, increasing productivity and efficiency, as well as ensuring sustainability in the development of the agricultural sector. The research used general scientific (generalization, comparison, induction and deduction) and empirical-theoretical methods (analysis, synthesis). The use of system-structural and comparative analysis made it possible to distinguish the main features of the development of the innovative information and communication system of agricultural production in China and Ukraine. It was found that the use of Internet technologies in agriculture contributes to solving various problems in the field of food security. It has been established that China has a much more developed agricultural sector, modern infrastructure, large production capacity and actively uses innovations. It was determined that Ukraine faced a number of problems: outdated infrastructure, insufficient financial resources for the development of agriculture and insufficient state support, however, it has prospects for the development of organic production and the domestic market for the sale of agricultural products, which may become important factors for its development in the future . It has been established that the innovative information and communication system in China's agriculture is a key factor in achieving sustainable development, ensuring food security and growing the country's economy. Based on the analysis, conclusions and recommendations were formulated regarding the improvement of agricultural development and the introduction of an innovative information and communication system in Ukraine. It was found that borrowing the experience of China (from the use of modern ICS technologies, such as artificial intelligence, big data, the Internet of Things and cloud technologies; GPS navigation systems for more accurate sowing of seeds and application of fertilizers in accordance with the needs of the land; unmanned aerial vehicle systems in pre-sowing soil cultivation, fertilizer application, pest control and other aspects; soil testing systems; crop growth monitoring systems, etc.) taking into account its successes in the agricultural sector and the application of innovative approaches, will help to ensure a more successful development of agriculture in Ukraine, however, when implementing of China's experience, Ukraine must take into account its own conditions and peculiarities, since the cultural, economic and political contexts of both countries are different.

Exploring consumer attitudes and purchase intentions: Unraveling key influencers in China’s green agricultural products market

This study explores the factors influencing consumer attitudes and purchasing intentions towards green agricultural products in China, as consumers have shown increased awareness due to heightened health and wellness consciousness. A random sampling method generated a sample for a questionnaire survey, yielding a response rate of 88.7 percent. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data, including Pearson Correlation and regression analysis. The research found that Chinese consumers exhibit a weakly positive attitude and neutral purchasing intention for green agricultural products. Furthermore, it identified a strong correlation and significant relationships between factors such as awareness, consumption values, social influence, and health consciousness and both attitude and purchase intention. The study also confirmed that attitude positively and significantly impacts purchase intention. This research enriches the understanding of consumer behavior in the green agricultural product market and aids marketers in making informed decisions.

Development Strategy Analysis of Cold Chain Logistics of Fresh Agricultural Products under the Background of Low-carbon Economy

In the context of global warming, the "low-carbon economy" based on low energy consumption and low pollution has become a global issue. Cold chain logistics has entered a period of rapid development driven by fresh consumption demand, and low-carbon logistics has become one of the important measures for the whole industry to adapt to the development of low-carbon economy. This paper analyzes the connotation and characteristics of cold chain logistics of fresh agricultural products, and analyzes the characteristics of transport links. The present situation of cold chain logistics of fresh agricultural products is summarized, the current working mode and main problems of cold chain logistics of agricultural products in China are clarified, and the main countermeasures for the development of cold chain logistics of fresh agricultural products are put forward.

Quality Control of Agricultural Products Cold Chain Logistics under Internet of Things Technology

China's agricultural production has achieved fruitful results in recent years, but on the whole, problems such as scattered production, low degree of modernization and lack of integrated organization and operation of production, supply and marketing are still outstanding. However, the achievement of the synergy benefits of cold chain logistics systems cannot be achieved overnight. Relevant entities should consciously and gradually adopt organized strategies and means to promote the evolution of self-organized collaboration to a higher stage. It is of great practical significance to explore the collaborative path and realization mechanism of cold chain logistics of agricultural products in China under the technology of IOT (Internet of Things), to promote relevant enterprises to solve the "bottleneck" of industrial development in interactive coordination, and to realize seamless connection of cold chain logistics nodes and effective integration of resources. To a certain extent, the wholesale market can more accurately control the types and quantities of products demanded by the market, and also has the ability to schedule all links. Build a backbone network of agricultural products cold chain connecting the main producing areas and consumption areas of agricultural products, and improve the security level of large-scale agricultural products logistics.

Influencing Factors and Group Differences of Urban Consumers' Willingness to Pay for Low-Carbon Agricultural Products in China.

Developing low-carbon agriculture has become a development goal for low-carbon economies in various countries, and consumers' awareness and willingness to pay (WTP) for low-carbon agricultural products is an important link in achieving the sustainable development of low-carbon agriculture. The theory of planned behavior is a widely used framework to explain consumers' food choices. Considering the intrinsic norms of consumers, their perceptions of low-carbon agricultural products, and shifts in consumer behavior, our study adds the influence of environmental awareness and consumer preferences to the theoretical framework of analysis. We choose the contingent valuing method (CVM) and use 532 consumer questionnaires in Shanghai to validate Chinese urban consumers' WTP for low-carbon products and its influencing factors. The findings show that Chinese urban consumers have a high overall awareness of low-carbon agricultural products and, after strengthening the conceptual information of consumers, most consumers agree that low-carbon vegetables are more conducive to ecological environment protection, quality, and safety guarantees than conventional vegetables. The existing analysis showed that some variables such as bid price, behavioral attitudes, subjective norms, and consumption preferences significantly influenced consumers' willingness to pay for low-carbon leafy greens, while the effect of the environmental awareness variable was not significant. Further research found that consumers' WTP for low-carbon leafy greens showed significant group differences across income, gender, age, and education. Therefore, to promote the consumption of low-carbon agricultural products in China, we should attach importance to the publicity and guidance of low-carbon vegetables and strengthen the certification of low-carbon vegetable products. This study can provide policy reference for reasonably regulating and subdividing China's low-carbon agricultural products market.

Factors affecting the adoption of green prevention and control techniques by family farms: Evidence from Henan province of China.

Encouraging farmers to adopt green prevention and control techniques (GCTs) is conducive to ensuring the quality and safety of agricultural products, the ecological environment and agricultural production in China. To explore the factors influencing vegetable farmers' adoption of GCTs, this study utilized the "information-motivation-behavior" intervention (IMB) model and ordered logistic model to empirically study the adoption behavior of 653 vegetable farmers in Henan Province, China. Estimation results indicated that the IMB model significantly predicted farmers' adoption of GCTs: 1) From the perspective of adoption decisions, 88.82% of the farmers have adopted GCTs, but the degree of adoption is low. 2) the farmers' adoption of GCTs IMB model specifies that higher levels of GCTs information, motivation, and behavioral skills should result in a greater likelihood of engaging in GCTs adoption behavior. 3) Motivation and behavioral skills are activated through information. 4) Finally, motivation can indirectly affect farmers' GCTs adoption behavior through behavioral skills. The results of this study support the need for the government to promote the use of GCTs for vegetable pest control, as well as advance integrated prevention and control in the agricultural industry.

Food security in a food self-sufficient economy: A review of China's ongoing transition to a zero hunger state

In a contemporary globalised world, assuring food security in the conditions of developing a food self-sufficient economic structure represents not only a challenge in terms of the changing agricultural paradigm, but also an important instrument in assuring, in a long-term manner, societal resilience. However, while achieving self-sufficiency in food, China still faces challenges in terms of establishing sustainable food security and transitioning to a zero hunger state. Rapid economic growth and urbanisation have resulted in shifting food consumption patterns from crops towards more nutritious meat and dairy products and higher-qualitative imported foods. In this study, the current state of food security and production and trade in food and agricultural products in China during 2000–2020 have been analysed and an overview of the strategic directions of the domestic sustainable development, food security, and zero hunger policies are highlighted. The main aim of the study is dedicated to identifying the critical shortcomings and gaps in combating hunger and food insecurity in China and proposing policy recommendations regarding improving the stability of the food supply in the country and deigning new possible strategies to achieve it. The results highlight the major trends and shifts of the food security paradigm in the process of developing a food self-sufficient economy.

The Influence of Social Preference and Governments’ Strong Reciprocity on Agricultural Green Production Networks under Intensive Management in China

This paper focuses on the sustainable development path of agricultural production in China under the pattern of intensive management, which aims to promote the agricultural green production networks consisting of new agricultural operators and traditional farmers. Based on these, this paper explores the evolution of agricultural green production networks through analyzing three interactive relationships among new agricultural operators and traditional farmers and constructing evolutionary game models on complex networks considering social preference and governments’ strong reciprocity, respectively. Then, the evolutionary stability strategies of these six evolutionary game models are analyzed, and the simulation of the evolution process of agricultural green production networks in different scenarios by MATLAB are realized. The results show that: (1) The evolutionary results of agricultural green production networks are positively correlated with the extra net profit of agricultural production operators. (2) If the extra net profit is positive, traditional farmers are more likely to adopt stable strategy of agricultural green production than new agricultural operators, while a few new agricultural operators would like to adopt the strategy of agricultural green production even though the extra net profit is low or negative. (3) The effect of social preference and governments’ strong reciprocity shows heterogeneity on the emergence of agricultural green production networks. When the net profit is enhanced, agricultural production operators with competitive preference would adopt the strategy of agricultural green production more quickly, as well as those agricultural production operators with social preference as governments’ strong reciprocity strengthened. As such, this paper suggests that it should be necessary to improve the net profit of agricultural green production by reducing costs and increasing benefits, encouraging agricultural production operators to cooperate in the agricultural green production networks to learn and share their green production experience.

Five-year plan and agricultural productivity in China

PurposeChina's economy has transformed from a high-speed growth phase to a high-quality development phase. The agriculture sector has grown substantially since the economic reform in 1978. Considering the five-year plan (FYP) as a collection of policies, this study explores the relationship between the FYP and agricultural total factor productivity (TFP).Design/methodology/approachThis study uses 31 provincial-level panel data of the five FYPs from 1996 to 2020. The data envelopment analysis (DEA) is used to compute Malmquist productivity indexes. The authors analyze the temporal and spatial changes and convergences of China's agricultural TFP, and investigate the impact of economic planning on China's agricultural TFP and its regional difference.FindingsThere is a slow but upward growth trend in China's agricultural TFP. The technical change has played a leading role in the growth of China's agricultural TFP. The agricultural TFP of all provinces has shown a “catch-up” effect and is developing toward their respective steady-state levels. The regional difference in productivity growth among the eastern, central and western regions exists. Test results show that the FYP has a positive effect on the agricultural TFP, and the effect has obvious regional heterogeneity. The FYP also plays a positive role in the gross value of agricultural output, and the impact effect is greater than that on the improvement of agricultural productivity.Originality/valueThere are many forms of industrial policy in China, among which the FYP is the guiding document of industrial policy, which makes a systematic plan for industrial development in the subsequent five years. The development objectives, guidelines and overall deployment for agriculture in the FYP not only describe the general context of China's agricultural development but also show the key ideas of agricultural development. Therefore, this study explores its impact on agricultural quality development from the perspective of FYP. The results provide evidence for examining the governance performance of the government and the objective evaluation and restraint of the FYP. As agriculture moves toward the stage of high-quality development, the Chinese government should strengthen the critical guiding role of the FYP and pay attention to quality indicators such as technical progress, efficiency improvement and regional coordination in the formulation of the FYP.

Green production information transparency and online purchase behavior: Evidence from green agricultural products in China

The “lemon effect,” which is the result of information asymmetry and barriers to trust, poses serious challenges to the sustainable development of green agricultural products. Therefore, enhancing consumers’ trust is critical to maintain sustainable purchasing behavior. Information transparency has been widely attention as a marketing tool, and previous research related to agricultural products has focused on the visible information. Based on signaling theory, this study takes an invisible information perspective and empirically investigates how production information transparency of green agricultural products affects consumer trust and online purchasing behavior. The results of structural equation modeling analysis show that production technology information transparency and production means information transparency have different effects on the dimensions of consumer trust (in competence and benevolence). Moreover, trust in competence has a significant positive impact on trust in benevolence; they both have significant impacts on consumers’ online green purchase behavior. The results of this study contribute to signaling theory and the product transparency literature, and offer significant implications to practitioners of the green agricultural sectors.

Research Status and Development Trend of Intelligent Mechanized Pepper Harvesting

Since the reform and opening up, the mechanization level of China's agricultural production has been significantly improved. Intelligent mechanization of agricultural production is an inevitable trend for future social development. It is based on intelligent equipment, with data and knowledge as the core elements to enable the deep integration of modern science and technology with agriculture. This enables digital perception, intelligent decision making, and precise operation of the whole agricultural production process, further improving labor productivity, land output rate and resource utilization rate. This paper introduces the development status of agricultural production in China and abroad with pepper harvesting, analyzes the necessity of changing China's agricultural production to intelligent mechanized production, summarizes the opportunities and challenges in intelligent mechanization, and accordingly puts forward the development direction and development route of China's agricultural production. To promote the transformation of China's agricultural production mode from mechanization to wisdom, this paper puts forward countermeasure suggestions such as strengthening the construction of agricultural machinery equipment R&D and innovation system, strengthening the construction of agricultural machinery promotion system, strengthening the construction of agricultural machinery socialization service system, and accelerating the construction of wisdom agriculture demonstration area.

Three Rights Separation reform and its impact over farm’s productivity: A case study of China

In recent years, China introduced the new “Three Rights Separation” land reforms which has fostered the agricultural productivity in the country. Using data from China Labour Force Dynamics Survey (CLDS), the current study aims to examine the impact of the “Three Rights Separation” of contracted land on agricultural productivity in China. The PSM method is primarily used for impact evaluation. The estimated results show that the farms' management rights registration and certification, and the three rights significantly increased the agricultural productivity and income. However, the impact effect caused by uncoordinated policy mechanisms and relatively slow application of right recognition did not significantly increase farmers’ agricultural production income. Having access to formal financial institutions and specializing in the production of crops directly correlated with a positive marginal effect on agricultural production and household’s income.

Non-Destructive Detection of Moldy Walnuts Based on Hyperspectral Imaging Technology.

Walnuts with their shells are a popular agricultural product in China. However, mildew from growth can sometimes be processed into foods. It is difficult to visually determine which walnuts have mildew without breaking the shells. A non-destructive method for detecting walnuts with mildew was studied by combining spectral data with image information. A total of 120 “Lüling” walnuts with shells were used for the mildew experiment. The characteristics of the spectral data from six surfaces of all samples were collected in the range of 370–1042 nm on days 0, 15, and 30. The spectrum was pretreated using SNV, and the feature bands were extracted using PCA and modeled using a support vector machine (SVM). The results show that the overall classification accuracy was 93%, with an of accuracy of 100% for INEN walnuts (normal internally and externally). The accuracy for IMEM walnuts (mildew internally and externally) reached 87.29%. There was an accuracy of 78.6% for IMEN walnuts (mildew internally and normal externally). The non-destructive detection of mildewed walnuts can be undertaken using hyperspectral imaging technology, which provides a new technique for exploring the mechanisms of walnuts with mildew.

Viral Metagenomics Reveals Diverse Viruses in Tissue Samples of Diseased Pigs.

The swine industry plays an essential role in agricultural production in China. Diseases, especially viral diseases, affect the development of the pig industry and threaten human health. However, at present, the tissue virome of diseased pigs has rarely been studied. Using the unbiased viral metagenomic approach, we investigated the tissue virome in sick pigs (respiratory symptoms, reproductive disorders, high fever, diarrhea, weight loss, acute death and neurological symptoms) collected from farms of Anhui, Jiangsu and Sichuan Province, China. The eukaryotic viruses identified belonged to the families Anelloviridae, Arteriviridae, Astroviridae, Flaviviridae, Circoviridae and Parvoviridae; prokaryotic virus families including Siphoviridae, Myoviridae and Podoviridae occupied a large proportion in some samples. This study provides valuable information for understanding the tissue virome in sick pigs and for the monitoring, preventing, and treating of viral diseases in pigs.
