Corn Business Development Opportunities Through an Agribusiness Approach

The purpose of this study is to (1) examine the application of the corn farming agribusiness system, (2) examine the production and income generated by corn farming, (3) examine the feasibility of corn farming, and (4) examine the prospects for corn farming development. Tanah Towa Village is located in Kajang District, Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi. Simple random sampling was used to select up to 59 respondents. The descriptive statistical analysis, farm income analysis, farming feasibility analysis, and time series analysis were all used to analyze the data. The results indicated that (1) the application of the agribusiness farming system with the production facilities subsystem met the correct criteria in 68% of cases and was incorrect in 32% of cases. (2) the average farm production of corn in Tanah Towa Village, Kajang District, Bulukumba Regency in the form of dry shells is still low at 2,204.4 kg/ha, compared to the subdistrict level of 3,733 kg/ha, with farmer income of Rp. 5,942,319/ha. (3) The feasibility of corn farming has increased (R/C = 3), indicating that it is feasible to develop; (4) The prospect of developing corn production in Kajang District has increased, indicating that it has favorable development prospects.significantly, to the point where it now has favorable development prospects.

Transforming Agricultural Extension Service Delivery through Innovative Bottom–Up Climate-Resilient Agribusiness Farmer Field Schools

Conventional approaches to agricultural extension based on top–down technology transfer and information dissemination models are inadequate to help smallholder farmers tackle increasingly complex agroclimatic adversities. Innovative service delivery alternatives, such as field schools, exist but are mostly implemented in isolationistic silos with little effort to integrate them for cost reduction and greater technical effectiveness. This article presents a proof-of-concept effort to develop an innovative, climate-resilient field school methodology, integrating the attributes of Farmers’ Field School, Climate Field School, Climate-Smart Agriculture and indigenous technical knowledge of weather indicators in one package to address the gaps, while sensitizing actors on implications for policy advocacy. Some 661 local facilitators, 32% of them women and 54% youth, were trained on the innovation across East Africa. The initiative has reached 36 agribusiness champions working with 237,250 smallholder farmers in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Initial results show that the innovation is strengthening adaptation behaviour of agribusiness champions, farmers and supply chain actors, and reducing training costs. Preliminary findings indicate that the process is rapidly shaping group adaptive thinking. The integrated approach offers lessons to transform extension and to improve food security and resilience. The approach bundles the costs of previously separate processes into the cost of one joint, simultaneous process, while also strengthening technical service delivery through bundled messaging. Experience from this initiative can be leveraged to develop scalable participatory extension and training models, especially scaling out through farmer-to-farmer replication and scaling up through farmer group networks.

The Role of Diffusion of Innovation in Agricultural to Compete in Asean Community

Diffusion of innovation is one of the most needed in agribusiness farming. Many farmers failed to increase their income. Besides, they lost their income and even their land because they couldn’t be able to solve their problems which the national development of agriculture business seemed impossible to overcome the problems and the obstacles to resolving thoroughly as the requirement needed more serious attention. The innovation was a key factor for agribusiness growth, development and the welfare of chili pepper farmer. Diffusion of chili pepper farming had given differences in innovativeness to determine the characteristic of the adopter categories. But the communication and adoption process could explain the need of diffusion of innovation. The important in diffusion was the time dimension in chronology and not as history. Innovation was treated as both products of contradiction and caused of new contradiction and the process of adoption as both being structured was changed after all. When a new idea adopted, the innovations required in the period of time to become available. A new technology as a smart technology adopted and transformed in a learning process. By having to identify and examining the WHY and HOWs of the interface the farmer and innovation systems would, therefore, create a very good intervention ground to make a rational use of resources and knowledge for the development of agribusiness farming systems.

Penggunaan Azotobacter dan Kompos Kulit Buah Kakao Terhadap Pertumbuhan dan Efisiensi Penggunaan Nitrogen Pada Pembibitan Utama Kelapa Sawit

<p>The expansion of oil palm plantations continues to increase so that it requires quality seed. Nurseries need to be done before moving to the field. The use of Azotobacter and cocoa fruit skin compost is one way to increase the growth and nitrogen use efficiency in oil palm in main nursery. This research was aimed to know the growth and nitrogen use efficiency of palm oil in main nursery. This research was conducted on the research area of the Agricultural Agribusiness College of Agriculture Practices (STIPAP) Medan and the Laboratory of Balai Pengkajian Teknologi Pertanian (BPTP) of North Sumatra and the Agricultural Laboratory of the University of North Sumatera from February until Juli 2013. The method used was Randomized Group Design factorial with 3 replications and followed by Duncan test at α=5%. The first factor is Azotobacter including without giving Azotobacter (A0), 20 ml/polybag (A1) and 40 ml/polybag (A2). The second factor is cocoa fruit skin compost, which consists of 3 of them, namely without compost (K0), 125 g/polybag (K1), and 250 g/polybag (K2). The research parameters were plant dry weight (g), nitrogen uptake (mg) and N use efficiency (EPN). The results showed that the use of Azotobacter and cocoa fruit skin compost were able to significantly increasing dry weight of plant and N uptake of oil palm seeds and gave the highest EPN value of 12.93. </p>

Digital and traditional media advertising and business performance of agribusiness firms - Empirical evidence in Japan

Can digital media advertising strategies benefit agribusiness farms? This study addresses this issue by investigating the extent to which digital and traditional media advertising strategies affect agribusiness performance and the underlying factors associated with agribusiness farms' adoption decisions. We estimate a non-linear simultaneous equation system and use a population-based survey data of agricultural processing farms in Japan. We find that female and younger farm operators', as well as incorporated agribusiness farms, are more likely to adopt digital media advertising. The sales value of digital media advertising users is higher by 51% than that of non-users. Moreover, the effect of digital advertising is not equally distributed among farms. Family farms and farms located in rural areas benefit more from the adoption of digital media advertising.

Brazil’s Humanitarian Food Cooperation: From an Innovative Policy to the Politics of Traditional Aid

Brazil had donated food abroad on previous occasions, but an institutionalized humanitarian food aid policy was something innovative in its history. The original goal was to connect the produce of the small family farmers to an international humanitarian policy. However, in practice, the donations privileged the commodities of the large agribusiness farms. This article explains the political economy that diverted the policy from its original social purpose and made Brazil one of the five biggest donors of food to the World Food Program for a short period of time.

Agroecology in North African irrigated plains? Mapping promising practices and characterizing farmers’ underlying logics

In the irrigated plains of North Africa, the sustainability of productive resources is subject to multiple threats linked to the prevailing productivist model of irrigated agriculture. These threats, such as soil degradation and unequal access to resources, markets, and information, prompt farmers to mobilize depleting natural resources, including soil and water, in an often environmentally unsustainable way. In order to sustain their farming systems and consequent incomes, farmers sometimes update their strategies by setting-up alternative farming practices. This study aims at mapping and analyzing such existing local farming practices with agroecological potentials. Our approach is based on direct observations combined with 150 interviews of farmers in three major irrigated plains in North Africa, namely, the Merguellil, Upper Cheliff, and Saiss plains, respectively, in Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. This study shows that a wide range of alternative practices with agroecological potential are emerging (or exist) locally, against the flow of the dominant agricultural model which is rather in favor of intensive practices. The most common practices are developed to improve soil fertility management (production of manure tea, integration of legumes in crop successions), increase per surface agricultural production (relay intercropping, intercropping, agroforestry), or provide multiple ecosystem services (diversification, livestock integration). These practices are jointly used, mostly to (i) increase land-use efficiency, and hence face land fragmentation; (ii) diversify their cropping strategy, and spread out market-related risks; and (iii) reduce expensive production costs related to irrigation and chemical fertilization. The gradient of adoption observed according to national contexts suggests a strong influence of contrasting socio-political and historical factors at the regional to national levels. The analysis of logics in implementing such practices by farmers indicates that economic reasons take precedence over environmental concerns. As such, these practices can be seen as (i) an access to low-cost strategies for small farmers or (ii) a pathway to international markets for agribusiness farmers. Taming the extensive local knowledge related to ecological intensification strategies, as identified in this study, can help to pave the way for a more sustainable agriculture, in this intensively cultivated region of the world.

The Struggle for Land and Territory between the Guarani Kaiowá Indigenous People and Agribusiness Farmers on the Brazilian Border with Paraguay: Decolonization, Transit Territory and Multi/Transterritoriality

ABSTRACT This article analyzes the struggle for land and territory of the Guarani and Kaiowá peoples and of agribusiness farmers on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. This process results from the territorialization of agribusiness through a privatist logic of spoliation and deterritorialization of which the main victims are the Guarani and Kaiowá peoples who occupied their traditional territories. In this struggle, agribusiness farmers build hegemonic multi/transterritoriality through the corporate use of articulated territories on both sides of the border. The Guarani and Kaiowá peoples elaborate a subaltern multi/transterritoriality as a geostrategy of struggle and resistance for the demarcation of traditional territories.

Pemberian Beberapa Jenis Biochar Terhadap C-Organik dan N-Total Pada Pertumbuhan Bibit Kelapa Sawit

<p>Vegetative growth response of palm oil DxP Dumpy variety using biochar rice husks, oil palm shells, corncobs and coconut shells in the Main Nursery, aims to determine the effect of the administration of several types of biochar on increasing C-organic and N-total in ultisol in the main nursery of oil palm plants. This research has been carried out at the Agricultural Agribusiness College of Agriculture Practices (STIPAP) Medan and soil analysis was carried out at the Asian Agri Laboratory, starting in March-August 2019. The method used was Randomized Group Design (RBD) non factorial with 3 replications, while the treatment factors used were B0 (NPK Compound), B1 Biochar Rice Husk (50 g/polybag), B2 Biochar Palm Oil Shell (50 g/polybag), B3 Biochar Corn Cobs (50 g/polybag), B4 Coconut Shell Biochar (50 g/polybag). The parameters observed were plant height (cm), girth (cm), number of leaves (strands), root wet weight (gr), root dry weight (gr) and pH, C-organik, and N-total soil. The results showed that the biochar treatment of rice husks, palm shells, corncobs and coconut shells had no significant effect on the observed parameters such as plant height, girth, number of leaves (strand, wet weight of roots and root dry weight, pH and N-total soil, but have a very significant effect on the increase in C-organic soil.</p>

KAJIAN BIOFISIK LAHAN DAN PERFORMANS BISNIS PERTANIAN DATARAN TINGGI DI KABUPATEN KONSERVASI TAMBRAUW PROVINSI PAPUA BARAT

Tambrauw Regency is obliged to safeguard the policies of the central government, especially in food self-sufficiency efforts. Determine locations that have land suitability specifications for soybeans and analyze farming agribusiness as an important factor in agricultural development. The research activity was carried out in Kebar District and Senopi District. Peanut farmers are the focus of research, with the consideration that peanuts and soybeans are a family (leguminoseae). At this stage, the study of the characteristics and specifications of the Kebar District and Senopi District areas as potential areas for the development of soybean commodities was carried out. The study of the shape, pattern, type and pattern of farming, as well as the use of agricultural production facilities by the farming community is carriedout. Data and information from various branches of farming were held with community discussions in the form of FGD. Data analyzed descriptively. The results showed low availability of potassium in flat areas and forests and acidic soil pH in flat-savanna regions. The hindering area is the slope, and flat areas only lack potassium. Potential food crops to be developed are upland rice plants and yams. The results of evaluation of land suitability for horticultural plants (Peanuts, Mustard, Tomatoes and Chillies) show "quite suitable" to "according to the margins". The farming production of Kebar was dominated by agricultural commodities and provides enough income for the household economy.

Agribusiness Behavior of Mango Farmers In The District of Panyingkiran Majalengka Regency Based On Mango Ownership

Mango varieties of Arumanis and Gedong Gincu is one of the horticultural commodities that are superior to Indonesian exports. The high local and international demand also makes the consumers preference of mango higher. Nevertheless, the development of mango agribusiness related to behavior of agribusiness farmers and the amount of mango trees is still not optimal. This study aims to determine the relationship between the agribusiness behavior of mango farmers and the number of mango trees. The method used in this study is a survey method with descriptive statistical and Chi-Square analysis tools. The results showed that the majority of mango farmers in Panyingkiran sub-district, Majalengka regency are farmers with narrow land (0.1-1 Ha) with the status of privately land. Farmers with privately status is command <50 mango trees on their land, while farmers who control > 200 mango trees are farmers with rental tree status. Farmers with little, medium, and large amounts of mango trees use private capital to cultivate mangoes and easily gain access to farm credit. The farmer makes the middleman as the final market destination and uses a cash payment system in buying and selling transactions. There are 6 variables of agribusiness behavior of mango farmers in Panyingkiran District, Majalengka Regency, which have a good and significant relationship with mastery of the number of mango trees, namely access to farm credit, application of off season technology, percent of good quality yields (grade A / B), determinants selling prices, payment systems and membership in farmer groups.

The Feasibility of Mango Farming Agribusiness in Oro Oro Ombo Wetan Village, Pasuruan Regency

Oro-Oro Ombo Wetan Village in Rembang District was an area that produce the highest mango commodity in Pasuruan Regency with a productivity level of 72.95 kg/tree in 2017. The high productivity level didn’t correlate positively with the income. This situation affected by the mango commodity price on the farmer level, investment cost, and production infrastructure cost. The mango production and price in this village relatively fluctuated. Therefore, it important to assess the feasibility and sensitivity of the mango farming agribusiness in this village. This study aimed to know the mango farming agribusiness feasibility in Oro Oro Ombo Wetan Village, Rembang District, Pasuruan Regency, and its sensitivity to the price and production volume change. The survey technique conducted to collect the data. The agribusiness farming feasibility analyzed in the interest level of 8% with the investment criteria of: gross B/C, net B/C, break-even point, payback period, NPV and IRR. The sensitivity analysis used to know the feasibility percentage when the price decrease as much as 10% and the mango production decrease as much as 20%. The result showed that the mango farming agribusiness in Oro-Oro Ombo Wetan village feasible to be conducted. This agribusiness was not sensitive to the decrease of the 10% price and 20% mango volume production.

Assistance for Business Feasibility of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) Respen Sakti Kulim Jaya Village Kempas District Indragiri Hilir

Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) is a company managed by the village community and its management is separate from the village government. Establishment of BUMDes aims to explore and optimize the potential of village entrepreneurs. As a business entity whose entire or most of its capital is owned by the village through direct participation from the village wealth which is separated to manage assets, services, and other businesses for the maximum welfare of the village community. Whereas BUMDes Respen Sakti which was established by the newly established Kulim Jaya village government has not been able to run a business properly and needed business feasibility assistance. Therefore, the agriculture faculty of the Agribusiness Study Program of the Islamic University of Indragiri conducts business feasibility assistance for BUMDes in the Kulim jaya Village, Kempas District . The method of carrying out community service activities is carried out with data collection techniques through lectures. Source of data obtained are secondary data with qualitative data analysis. Business feasibility assistance conducted by the Faculty of Agriculture Agribusiness Study Program of Indragiri Islamic University to the Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) of the Respen Sakti Kulim Jaya Village is going well. This can be seen from the ability of BUMDEs in managing and running 2 (two) types of businesses, namely LPG 3 Kg GAS and Electronic Goods Credit. In addition, BUMDEs Respen Sakti is able to obtain increased revenue and sales of 3 Kg LPG GAS and BUMDes Respen Sakti is able to provide services to the demand for electronic goods needed by the community

Rural modernisation through intensive vegetable farming agribusiness in Indonesia

ABSTRACT Traditional farming that changes to profitable agribusiness can serve a machine for rural modernisation. This article assesses factors that determined the decision of smallholder vegetable producers to participate in vegetable-based agribusiness and analyses the impact of agribusiness participation and other determinants on the economic returns. Structural equation modelling was employed to show a proposed model of cumulative causation theory. Data were compiled from a quantitative survey of 357 selected farm households located in major vegetable-producing areas of Bali and Java, Indonesia. Results show that human capital and household endowment motivated farmers to participate in vegetable-based agribusiness. Women's participation significantly contributed to agribusiness participation and agribusiness participation led to income generation. Opportunities exist to expand vegetable-based agribusiness and increase farmers’ income by providing adequate access to transportation infrastructure, an advantageous agribusiness environment, and investing in human capital through training and extension services.

Entrepreneurial Activities in Rural Forest Communities in Nigeria: Case Study of Onigambari Forest Area, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria

Entrepreneurship has been identified as a vehicle for rural development and overall economic growth in Nigeria. This paper examines the nature of entrepreneurial ventures in rural forest communities as well as the roles of forest resources in these ventures and the challenges they face. The study was based on a survey of 120 respondents from three communities in the Onigambari Forest Area in Oyo State using multistage sampling technique. Descriptive statistics as well as the Chi – square was used to analyse the results. The results showed that the farming (agribusiness) form the major entrepreneurial venture in these communities and these ventures are faced with a vicious cycle of low income and productivity. The results also show that these entrepreneurial ventures are faced with several challenges affecting their productivity. This study recommends that the government should encourage financial institutions to increase their presence in rural areas, that members in forest communities should be adequately trained on how to make proper use of forest resources and the overall standard of living in rural areas should be improved so that entrepreneurship can have the desired effect and forest resources can be a productive asset for development in these communities. PENERAPAN MEDIA PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS MACROMEDIA FLASH UNTUK MENINGKATKAN MOTIVASI DAN HASIL BELAJAR SISWA PADA MATA PELAJARAN ALAT DAN MESIN PERTANIAN KELAS X ATP DI SMK NEGERI 7 MAJENE

This study is a classroom action research that aims to improve students' motivation and learning outcomes on the subjects of agricultural tools and agricultural machines class X agricultural agribusiness skills program (ATP) SMK Negeri 7 Majene with the use of macromedia flash based learning media. The subjects of this study are the students of class X ATP 2 SMK Negeri 7 Majene in the odd semester of academic year 2017/2018 consisting of 33 students. This research was conducted in two cycles consisting of four activities, namely: planning, implementation, observation/observation, and reflection. Data collection of motivation and learning outcomes, as well as activities of student learning activities is done by using observation sheet and test result sheet in cycle I and cycle II. The collected data is analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Based on the results of research, it can be concluded that the use of media based learning macromedia flash can improve motivation and learning outcomes of students of class X ATP SMK Negeri 7 Majene.

Application of Liquid Organic Fertilizer from River Moss and Seaweed to Increase the Growth of Mustard Soft Stem Plants

The 21st century development of plants in the agribusiness and agro-industry sectors, one form of agricultural agribusiness is mustard cultivation. However, in general, this cultivation still uses artificial chemical plants which have a negative impact if used continuously for plants, soil, and consumers. Seaweed besides being able to be consumed by the body, it can also be used as a liquid organic base. The content of seaweed in the form of calcium, manganese and potassium can actually increase plant growth. This study aims to determine the effect of liquid fertilizer applied by researchers on the growth of mustard plants. The method used is to make fertilizer made from seaweed and river moss. Giving liquid fertilizer to mustard plants with various percentages and measuring the height of mustard plants every 5 days for 25 days. The results showed that the application of organic fertilizer with seaweed as the base material could increase the growth of mustard plants. Seaweed-based fertilizers contain K2O which can stimulate growth hormone growth. This is evidenced by the difference in plants given liquid fertilizer made from seaweed and river moss.

The Analysis Of The Development Strategy Of Chilli Pepper (Capsicum Frutescens L.) For The Improvement Of The Economy Of Farmers 'Society In Sub District Of Sungai Kakap Kubu Raya District

The condition of land in Kakap subdistrict of Kubu Raya District is swamp furthermore the land is affected by tidal area so that it becomes the limiting factor to get high production and productivity. This study aims to determine the condition of chili pepper business in the village of Kalimas in Sungai Kakap District of Kubu Raya. And also to formulate alternative strategy of development of chili pepper farming. In this study it is known that chili pepper farming in the village of Kalimas has internal factors that become the main strength of the ease of marketing factors of production. While the main weakness is the capital factor of farming. The external factor that becomes the main opportunity is the demand factor of chili pepper and the main threat is the attacking factor of plant disturbing organism. Through SWOT matrix analysis, it is known that internal factors that become strength and weakness are combined with external factors into opportunities and threats so that there are several alternative strategies for the development of chili pepper farming. SO strategies obtained are: Increased production through intensification and extensification, application of agribusiness farming system by partnering to subsystems of input providers and production facilities and marketing subsystems. For the WO strategy gained are: Strengthening of stakeholders through improvement of cooperation relationship with all related parties, improvement of training and socialization and optimization of production. While for strategy of ST and WT that is obtained is: efficiency of use of means of production and diversification of farming without leaving chili pepper farming.<strong></strong></em></p>

The Benefits of Mix Farming Agribusiness to Strengthen Food Sustainability of The Farmer Households at Agrotourism Areas

<p align="center"><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p>This research aims at examining the benefits of mix farming agribusiness to strengthen food sustainability of poor farmer households at agro-tourism areas. The research is designed using a case study method based on qualitative and quantitative approach. This research is intentionally conducted in Karangreja Sub-district, Purbalingga Regency of Central Java Province. Based on the research results, it shows that mix farming agribusiness may provide the practical and economic benefits to strengthen food sustainability of the 12 adopting farmer households as the research respondents. High practical benefits are directly shown on 83 percent of respondents who find it easy to provide food materials consisting of vegetable and side dish (cat fish). Furthermore, the development of mix farming agribusiness also directly provides practical benefits to 67 percent of respondents in obtaining several food types, including corn and chicken. The other research results show that all respondents who have been well implemented mix farming agribusiness management may indirectly obtain the economic benefits, especially to the staple food providers of rice since those respondents generally first sell their mix farming agribusiness yields in order to purchase rice. Thus, the farmers should improve their awareness on the functions of practical and economic benefits that food sustainability in agro-tourism village areas may be well implemented
