Sisi Terang dan Gelap: Digitalisasi pada Perkembangan Pendidikan Indonesia

As time goes by, humans continue to adapt to the environment of their era, developing innovations to make their lives more efficient and practical. In this effort to adapt and change, technology has become a tool that is greatly utilized by humans. In the current era of even development of information technology, education has a very important role because it is needed to provide meaning to every subject matter, which will help Indonesia move towards a more advanced civilization. For this reason, this article aims to examine two different sides to the digitalization of school education in facing the era of revolution 4.0 towards 5.0 in Indonesia today. This research uses descriptive qualitative research with a literature review method. The research results show that there are various applications of digitalization/technology in education that have both good and bad impacts. This impact occurs in aspects of learning and administrative services which will of course influence the development of education, therefore it is necessary to design appropriate strategies as preventive and overcoming measures, especially these negative impacts. So that education in Indonesia is expected to be able to rise amidst world civilization and demonstrate its existence by presenting creative solutions to various global challenges that arise in the current and future eras.

The Effects of Green Supply Chain Management Practices on The Performance Of The Turkish Iron and Steel Industry

Sustainability is fundamental to complete development since it minimizes the negative impacts of work that is beneficial to society. Some sectors, such as the Iron and Steel Industry (ISI), have served the development of humanity for centuries and have enabled humanity to create new tools and build solid structures. ISI is a main material provider for different industries such as household appliances, car production, building, and medical devices. The importance of iron and steel for humanity is obvious and the sector serves humanity for being an advanced civilization. On the other hand, iron and steel production requires complex production methods, high energy consumption, and toxic materials. An industry that is so important for the development of civilization harms the planet that we all live in and threatens all living creatures when it doesn’t have environmental consciousness. The iron and steel sector should make its production model more environmentally friendly. In this context, this study aims to explore the effects of Green Supply Chain Management practices on 3 performance aspects (environmental, operational, and economic) of Turkish ISI. Findings indicate that every single GSCM practices have a different level of positive impact on environmental and operational performance. However, the findings suggest that the effects of GSCM practices on economic performance are not enough to declare a positive relationship because it is not obvious and highly clear as environmental performance and operational performance.

Konsep dan Etos Ilmu dalam Ensiklopedi Al-Qur'an Karya Dawam Rahardjo

The fact of the decline of the Muslim world in terms of intellectual level has been discussed in many places. The response to these challenges is very diverse. One response that is considered relevant is to bring back the spirit of the Qur'an to revive the tradition of knowledge. This research aims to explore the concept and ethos of knowledge in the book Encyclopaedia Al-Qur'an by Dawan Rahardjo. This type of research is library research using descriptive-analytical method. The results of this study are, in his introduction, Dawam explains the ethos of science in the Islamic world, where the concept of knowledge sourced from the Qur'an and hadith became the driving force of Islamic society in the past in creating an advanced civilisation. Regarding the interpretation of the Qur'an, Dawam raises all vocabulary that contains elements of 'knowledge' which is not limited to the word 'ilm and its various derivations, but other vocabulary such as fahhama, 'aqala, bashir, faqiha, khabara, albab, and so on in revealing the meaning of 'knowledge' in the Qur'an. On the other hand, Dawam raises one sample surah, QS. al-An'am to show that the Qur'an encourages its people to act in a rational way and has functional value. Finally, Dawam concludes that although the Qur'an contains theological aspects as a religious teaching, as a teaching of life, the Qur'an also contains practical aspects of the spirit to be knowledgeable, act rationally, and also create a scientific civilisation.

Sufism morals are increasingly needed in the current era to minimize the evils and gaps in human attitudes towards themselves, fellow humans and also Allah SWT. The practice of Sufism exemplified by Sufis generally teaches religious values ​​that produce noble moral behavior. Noble morals provide hope for the formation of an advanced civilization and do not ignore the divine values ​​that are always present in human hearts and lives. The aim of this research is to form a scientific concept regarding Sufism morals that is sustainable in the Islamic education process. The method in this research uses library study methods, reading content analysis, and descriptive analysis from various related sources. The results of the research found a concept that Sufism's morals produce noble morals towards Allah SWT, oneself, fellow humans and other living creatures in the universe through a process of self-purification and also approaching oneself to Allah SWT.

AbstractIn the first part of this series, we delve into the foundational aspects of “Message in a Bottle (MIAB)” (henceforth referred to as MIAB). This study builds upon the legacy of the Voyager Golden Records, launched aboard Voyager 1 and 2 in 1977, which aimed to communicate with intelligent species beyond our world. These records not only offer a snapshot of Earth and human civilization but also represent our desire to establish contact with advanced alien civilizations. Given the absence of mutually understood signs, symbols, and semiotic conventions, MIAB, like its predecessor, uses scientific methods to design an innovative means of communication that encapsulates the story of humanity. Our goal is to share our collective knowledge, emotions, innovations, and aspirations in a way that provides a universal, yet contextually relevant, understanding of human society, the evolution of life on Earth, and our hopes and concerns for the future. Through this time and space traveling capsule, we also strive to inspire and unify current and future generations to celebrate and safeguard our shared human experience.

Transportation, Concept, and Its Impact on Economic Development: A Review from the Perspective of the Mountainous Region

Transportation, which originates from the Latin words trans, whose meaning is across," and portare, which means to carry, emphasizes prominently the occupations of men, advanced civilization, expansion of domestic and international trade, economic growth, etc. The countries whose geography is highly covered with mountains have been heavily affected by the transport network, and the same is true for northeastern mountainous India, where it is impossible to move goods through road transportation. These situations not only harshly affect the residents of such areas but also result in a lack of economic growth, the formation of spatial relationships, and revenue production. As a result of this, there is a need to keep these problematic things in the attention of country residents and their governments, for which a critical analysis is needed through a systematic review that can present a clear concept of transportation and their impact on the economic growth of the regions. Motivated by the same, the present work has been proposed to conduct a review article on transportation, its concept, and its impact on economic development from the perspective of the mountainous region. The work presented in the article will be of great interest to working professionals in this area.

Photocatalytic Applications of SnO2 and Ag2O-Decorated SnO2 Coatings on Cement Paste

Recently, the production of new photocatalytic materials has attracted considerable attention as a promising strategy to mitigate anthropogenic environmental degradation. In this study, cement paste composites (water/cement ratio = 0.5) were prepared using a coating based on nanoparticles of SnO2 (SnO2/cement paste) and SnO2 decorated with Ag2O (Ag2O-decorated SnO2/cement paste) for photocatalytic applications. These coatings were prepared in this study by using the hydrothermal method as the strategy. Thus, photocatalyst efficiency was evaluated through the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and methyl red (MR) as cationic and anionic dyes, respectively, and the simultaneous degradation of MB/MR (1:1 v/v) dyes. Moreover, the photocatalytic mechanism was investigated in the presence of scavengers. Notably, an increase in pH in the range of 2–6 resulted in selective degradation of the MB/MR dye mixtures. Overall, the photocatalytic performance of these materials provides a novel platform technology focused on advanced civil engineering applications, which consequently facilitates the mitigation of various environmental problems.

Abstract: Scientists have focused on solar flares because they are violent phenomena that take place on the Sun's surface and atmosphere and pose threats to the highly advanced civilization on Earth. Electromagnetic radiation from these eruptions primarily manifests as X-rays, UV light, and sporadically visible light. The energy released by these eruptions is equivalent to that of millions of atomic bombs. The beauty of auroras is enhanced but communication systems are disrupted by geomagnetic storms, which frequently accompany flares via coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Long-distance radio communication is hampered by ionospheric ionization caused by X-rays, and GPS navigation may become less precise, especially in high-latitude areas. Increased radiation levels during solar flares pose a concern to both astronaut safety and satellite operations. Geomagnetic disruptions pose a threat to electrical networks, which could result in widespread blackouts. Complex observatories like the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) are used to predict and reduce the effects of solar flares. Classifying and analyzing solar flares precisely can assist determine their possible effects, which can range from modest interruptions brought on by Class C flares to major disruptions brought on by X-class flares. This study advances our knowledge of solar-terrestrial interactions and helps with space weather forecasting, both of which are essential in today's highly developed society.

The March on Washington Movement, the Fair Employment Practices Committee, and the Long Quest for Racial Justice

Abstract In the summer of 1941, the March on Washington Movement (MOWM), led by the civil rights and labor leader A. Philip Randolph, planned to march tens of thousands of African Americans on Washington, DC, to pressure President Franklin Roosevelt to abolish discrimination in the federal government and defense industries. After intensive negotiations, Roosevelt issued Executive Order 8802, banning those forms of discrimination and creating a federal agency to oversee this work: the Fair Employment Practices Committee (FEPC). Randolph and his allies use of pioneering pressure tactics coincided with a critical period of institutionalization of the modern presidency, ultimately resulting in executive action that significantly advanced civil rights and economic opportunity for Black Americans. Many scholars, focusing only on civil rights activists’ fraught relationship with Roosevelt and the Southern Democrats’ stubborn defense of Jim Crow in Congress and the states, have seen the highly contentious battles over the authority and policies of the FEPC as constituting a major defeat for MOWM’s state-centered civil rights strategy. Yet Randolph and his allies continued to believe that the most practical path to reform ran through the executive branch. In this article, we draw a contrast between the actions first taken by President Roosevelt with his wavering commitment to the FEPC and the stronger and more definitive actions taken by President Truman to desegregate the military and civil service, which broke open public-sector employment for African Americans. Beyond strategic considerations, the New Deal expansion of jobs in the national service and military made the modern executive an essential target of Randolph’s campaign to join the battles for civil rights with economic freedoms. Randolph’s decision to focus on employment in the rapidly expanding defense industries, federal workforce, and military thus marked a critical episode in the fight for the economic rights of Black Americans.

Planetary biotechnospheres, biotechnosignatures and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence

AbstractThe concept of planetary intelligence as collective intelligence is used to consider possible evolutionary paths of biotechnospheres that emerge on the intersection of the technosphere with the biosphere and support coupling of the technosphere with the biosphere, thus affecting planetary evolution. In mature biotechnospheres, the intelligence of technologies and the intelligence of life forms, including engineered life forms, could act in concert to perform various tasks (e.g. monitoring planetary biospheres and environments; restoring planetary environments and biodiversity; steading planetary environments; providing support for space missions; terraforming cosmic objects). Space exploration can expand biotechnospheres beyond planets and create cosmic ecosystems encompassing planets and other cosmic objects; biotechnospheres, spacecraft and the environments of near-planetary, interplanetary space or interstellar space. Humankind, other civilizations or their intelligent machines may produce biotechnosignatures (i.e. observables and artefacts of biotechnospheres) in the Solar System and beyond. I propose ten possible biotechnosignatures and strategies for the search for these biotechnosignatures in situ and over interstellar distances. For example, if a non-human advanced civilization existed and built biotechnospheres on Earth in the past, its biotechnospheres could use engineered bacteria and the descendants of that bacteria could currently exist on Earth and have properties pertaining to the functions of the ancient bacteria in the biotechnospheres (such properties are proposed and discussed); intelligent technologies created by the ancient civilization could migrate to the Solar System's outer regions (possible scenarios of their migration and their technosignatures and biotechnosignatures are discussed); these two scenarios are described as the Cosmic Descendants hypothesis. Interstellar asteroids, free-floating planets, spacecraft and objects gravitationally bound to flyby stars might carry extraterrestrial biotechnospheres and pass through the Solar System. In connection to the fate of post-main-sequence stars and their Oort clouds, the probability for interstellar asteroids to carry biotechnospheres or to be interstellar spacecraft is estimated as very low.

Multicultural Islam in the Ottoman Turkish Civilization during the Medieval Era

The objective of this study is to explore the Ottoman Empire's management model in navigating a diverse, multiethnic, and multireligious society, thereby fostering an advanced and dynamic civilization. Employing a qualitative approach with a content analysis model during data interpretation, this research identifies a synergistic alignment between the open policy and the empire's response to ethnic, cultural, and religious differences. This alignment stems from the extensive conquest process and the organic awareness within the community, influencing social interactions. The open policy, characterized by the establishment of local entities such as readers, millets, reāyā, sipähis, and timars, facilitates the accommodation of diverse interests, worship practices, and cultural expressions. This policy is instrumental in supporting a society's multicultural awareness, fostering openness to cultural assimilation, and promoting respect for religious practices. Notably, Islam is positioned as a safeguard to ensure the enforcement of power supremacy as outlined in The Ottoman code, but the state largely refrains from intervening in religious activities and cultural expressions unless there is a clear threat to its authority. This awareness of distinct private and public spheres fosters a pluralistic and multicultural reality within Ottoman society, with the state adopting a relatively moderate position.

This study examines the exchange and influence of alcohol, often hailed as the greatest gift bestowed upon humanity, as it traversed the Eurasian continent from east to west and vice versa. Rather than being a mere beverage for enjoyment, alcohol should be regarded as a cultural heritage born from the fusion of local products and cultures. This paper gathers historical records on wine to explore how the people of the Mongol Empire enjoyed wine, and investigates the spread and diffusion of fermented beverages like Maotai and the distilled spirits derived from them, shedding light on the North-South cultural exchange of alcohol during the early 13th century in the steppe and the central plains.
 In particular, the invention of distillation apparatus and the activities of Islamic merchants contributed to the vast dissemination of distilled spirits throughout the vast regions of Eurasia, giving rise to various types of alcohol such as arrack and soju in the east, and whisky, brandy, vodka, and tequila in the west. This, too, can be seen as a result of extensive cultural exchange between the East and the West. The active exchange of alcohol during the era of the Mongol Empire was made possible by the empire's expansion of territories in all directions, establishing an empire that not only exerted political and military control over neighboring countries but also provided opportunities for subordinate ruling classes to participate in advanced civilization. Additionally, the empire secured hubs for exchanging goods between border regions and central cities, leading to the flourishing of economic exchanges, both public and private, between regions.
 This paper examines how the spread of alcohol in East Asia occurred in both the northern and southern directions, centered around the Mongol Empire, during different periods before and after the empire's existence. Contrary to our general assumption that alcohol spread unilaterally from China to Southeast Asian countries, it was confirmed that various types of fermented beverages produced in the region were introduced to China as trade developed. Likewise, distilled spirits were introduced to China through maritime and overland trade routes, and with the construction of a universal empire, the spread of these alcoholic beverages to other regions became more active, contributing to their popularization. This, too, can be seen as a cultural exchange phenomenon brought about by Pax Mongolica.

URGENSI PENDIDIKAN NILAI DI ERA DIGITALISASI

In the current era of global development of information technology, the position of valueseducation is very central because it is in a position that is needed to be able to give meaning to each material subject to deliver the Indonesian nation towards an advanced civilization. The purpose of this article is to develop the concept of the importance of value education in dealing with conditions of global technological progress. This study uses the concept of library research for the urgency of the importance of values education. The results of the conceptual arrangement show that the use of technology needs to be balanced with value education so that the values and personality of the Indonesian nation remain intact and maintained. If the inculcation of values in education at this time is not strengthened, it is not impossible that the Indonesian people will gradually lose their identity and will not be able to maintain their national identity because they are easily influenced by global foreign cultures. Advanced Hypersonic Transportation Perspectives

High-speed transportation design concepts are examined for advanced civil aviation and space transportation applications. The design concept of transatmospheric vehicles, flying directly from earth to orbit, will enable launching and recovery of small telecommunication and remote sensing satellites, harvesting solar energy from space, and space tourism.Commonality of flight regimes in atmospheric flight, the similarity of fuels, propulsion technology, aerodynamic configuration design, and airframe structure materials used in these high-speed flight regimes for air and space transportation are discussed in detail.A single, Integrated Hypersonic Transport Programme, is recommended, based on small size, low risk, and low cost vehicles. A dual fuel, kerosene-hydrogen system meets the needs of such an Integrated Hypersonic Transportation Programme, with kerosene for take-off, powered landing and low speed ascent/descent flight. Hydrogen is used for high-speed cruise flight. India would greatly benefit by an Integrated Hypersonics Transportation Programme, with leading institutions like ISRO, NAL and ADA working together to jointly study, design and build a strong technology base for small, unmanned hypersonic flight demonstrators. This project could then lead on, safely and economically, to hypersonic Executive Jet aircraft, and small fully Reusable Trans-Atmospheric Vehicles for direct ascent of the hypersonic aerospacecraft to earth orbit.

The disaster situations on Earth represented in sci-fi films since the 2000s are the result of the development of human scientific civilization, which is like the “law of causality” of physics. For example, putting aside climate change, viruses, resource depletion, energy shortages, and nuclear warfare, etc., the crisis situations that have occurred in space are also the result of human-related causes. Furthermore, contact with alien races is more for information exchange than for destructive purposes, as they are superior to humans. This is consistent with the idea that the exchange of information through contact with alien races is the only way to overcome the imminent and desperate crisis on Earth without the human race perishing. Humanity's advanced scientific and technological civilization is, after all, the underlying cause of the desperate crisis that has blown over all the earth, perhaps having now reached or already passed its critical point. After all, humanity has thus longed for an 'overman' beyond man as a solution to the extinction of species and the destruction of the Earth, and this has been represented in various ways in many sci-fi films since the 2000s. We call this 'overman' a 'new species' or 'new kind'. This paper attempts to clarify what is meant by this “new species”.

This paper examines History, the Disease of Temporary Amnesia (Loss of Memory) and National Development. It analyses the concept “History, the disease of Temporary Amnesia and its impact on History as a course of study came to focus. It discusses the undue emphasis on science and technology to the detriment of History. The significance of History to National Development was demonstrated. The data for the research was obtained from primary sources like oral interview and secondary sources, such as newspapers, books (published and unpublished), thesis, dissertation, journals etc. The study found that the relevance of History to National development cannot be over-emphasized. It demonstrated that the disease of ‘Temporary Amnesia’ has negative impact on the study of History. Again the study found that the sarcastic comments that Africa have no history, that African history is nothing more than European activities in Africa is not correct. The earlier statements by European visitors that Africa did not produce advanced civilization have been disproved by the discovering of fine works of art at such places as Nok, Ife, Benin and Igbo Ukwu in Nigeria (Alagoa, 1978:12). In conclusion, it is noted that nation without the knowledge of the past cannot project successfully into the present and future.
