Solvent-free synthesis of covalent-framework 2D crown ether and its application for polylactic acid nanocomposites having antibacterial property

This study showed the synthesis of a covalent-frameworked 2D crown ether, named C2O, consisting of carbon and oxygen in a 2:1 mol ratio, using solvent-free synthesis for the first time. The synthesized C2O is distinguished by its structure, which includes numerous phenol groups akin to phlorotannins, conferring high antibacterial property through contact-based mechanisms and biocompatibility. The inherent crown ether structure of C2O facilitates efficient metal adsorption, allowing for the easy facile preparation of C2O containing Cu atom (Cu@C2O). Cu@C2O exhibits enhanced antibacterial property at much lower concentrations compared to the native C2O. For practical application, polylactic acid (PLA) nanocomposite films were prepared using C2O as a filler, achieving 99.99 % of antibacterial property at just 0.1 wt% concentration. When the PLA nanocomposite films were prepared using Cu@C2O as the filler, the required concentration was further reduced to 0.03 wt%, while still demonstrating 99.99 % of antibacterial property. Additionally, the excellent copper ion adsorption capacity of Cu@C2O ensures minimal leaching, thus mitigating cytotoxicity concerns. Given their high and long-term antibacterial properties, biocompatibility, these materials represent promising candidates for various biomedical, packaging and antifouling paint applications, demonstrating significant potential across diverse domains.

Flexible cellulose nanofiber aerogel with enhanced porous structure and its applications in copper(II) removal

In order to achieve an aerogel with both rigid pore structures and desired flexibility, stiff carboxyl-functionalized cellulose nanofiber (CNFs) were introduced into a flexible polyvinyl alcohol-polyethyleneimine (PVA-PEI) crosslinking network, with 4-formylphenylboronic acid (4FPBA) bridging within the PVA-PEI network to enable dynamic boroxine and imine bond formation. The strong covalent bonds and hydrogen connections between CNF and the crosslinking network enhanced the wet stability of the aerogel while also contributed to its thermal stability. Importantly, the harmonious coordination between the stiff CNF and the flexible polymer chains not only facilitated aerogel flexibility but also enhanced its increased specific surface area by improving pore structure. Moreover, the inclusion of CNF enhanced the adsorption capacity of the aerogel, rendering it effective for removing heavy metal ions. The specific surface area and adsorption capacity for copper ions of the aerogel increased significantly with a 3 wt% addition CNF suspension, reaching 19.74 m2 g−1 and 60.28 mg g−1, respectively. These values represent a remarkable increase of 590.21 % and 213.96 %, respectively, compared to the blank aerogel. The CNF-enhanced aerogel in this study, characterized by its well-defined pore structures, and desired flexibility, demonstrates versatile applicability across multiple domains, including environmental protection, thermal insulation, electrode fabrication, and beyond.

Co-production of spirosiloxane and biochar adsorbent from wheat straw by a low-cost and environment-friendly method

To enhance the value of wheat straw derivatives, wheat straw ash (WSA) was used as a reactant for the first time to synthesize spirocyclic alkoxysilane, an important organosilicon raw material, using an energy-saving and environmentally friendly non-carbon thermal reduction method. After spirocyclic alkoxysilane extraction, the biochar in the wheat straw ash prepared an adsorbent for Cu2+. The maximum copper ion adsorption capacity (Qm) of silica-depleted wheat straw ash (SDWSA) was 31.431nullmg/g, far exceeding those of WSA and similar biomass adsorbents. The effects of the pH, adsorbent dose, and contact time on the adsorption behaviour of the SDWSA for Cu2+ adsorption were systematically investigated. The adsorption mechanism of Cu2+ by the SDWSA was investigated using the Langmuir, Freundlich, pseudo-first-order kinetic, pseudo-second-order kinetic, and Weber and Morris models by combining the preliminary experimental data and characterization results. The adsorption isotherm and Langmuir equation matched perfectly. The Weber and Morris model can describe the mass-transfer mechanism of Cu2+ adsorption by SDWSA. Both film and intraparticle diffusion are rapid control steps. Compared to WSA, SDWSA has a larger specific surface area and a higher content of oxygen-containing functional groups. A large specific surface area provides more adsorption sites. Oxygen-containing functional groups react with Cu2+ through electrostatic interactions, surface complexation, and ion exchange, which are the possible adsorption mechanisms for SDWSA. These methods improve the added value of wheat straw derivatives and promote wheat straw ash recovery and centralized treatment. This makes it possible to use the thermal energy of wheat straw and facilitates the treatment of exhaust gases and carbon capture.

Simple fabrication of carbon quantum dots and activated carbon from waste wolfberry stems for detection and adsorption of copper ion.

Removal of heavy metal pollution is an endless topic, because heavy metals can cause irreversible damage to the human body and environment. It is urgent to develop novel materials for detection and adsorption of heavy metal ions. In this paper, waste wolfberry straw was utilized as a carbon source, and two simple methods were developed to successfully prepare activated carbon (AC) and carbon quantum dots (CQDs). The fabrication conditions were optimized by adjusting the mass ratio of precursor to activator, type of activator and activation times. When sodium hydroxide (NaOH) was selected as an activator (6 : 1, mass ratio of NaOH to AC-precursor), and the activation was performed at 600 °C for 1 h, the highest specific surface area of the obtained AC-NaOH-3 reached 3016 m2 g-1. The adsorption capacity for copper ions (Cu2+) reached 68.06 mg g-1. The preparation conditions for CQDs were also optimized by adjusting the concentration of wolfberry stem, reaction time and temperature. When the wolfberry stem concentration was 7.5 g L-1, and the activation was performed at 200 °C for 24 h, the obtained CQDs exhibited strong fluorescence emission in the blank and 12 kinds of metal ion solutions, respectively, however, the fluorescence intensity was remarkably decreased after adding Cu2+. In the range of 10-80 nM, the linear correlation coefficient between the concentration of Cu2+ and fluorescence intensity of CQDs was 0.992, and the limit of detection was 2.83 nmol L-1. Thus, these two kinds of materials were prepared from wolfberry stem, which opened up a new way for the application in adsorption and detection of copper ions.

Structural Evolution of Polyimide-Derived Carbon during Phosphoric Acid Activation

Carbon adsorbents were obtained by carbonization of polyimide polymer with and without the presence of phosphoric acid at temperatures in the range of 400–1000 °C. Carbons produced in the presence of phosphoric acid have been demonstrated to contain up to 13.2% phosphorus. The structure of phosphorus-containing compounds was investigated by XPS and 31P MAS NMR methods. Deconvolution of the P 2p peak with variable binding energy showed the presence of only phosphates/polyphosphates. However, a low value of the O/P ratio is an indirect indication of the possible presence of phosphonates. A 31P MAS NMR study revealed the existence of several kinds of phosphates as well as a minor quantity (1–9%) of phosphonates. All discovered phosphorus-containing compounds are acidic and therefore give carbon the ability to absorb metal cations. The study of copper ion adsorption demonstrated that phosphorus-containing carbon shows a significant adsorption capability even in extremely acidic conditions. At pH 3–6, phosphorus-containing carbon may completely remove copper from the aqueous solution. Phosphorus-containing carbon has a higher adsorption capacity for copper ions than ion exchange resins with carboxyl or sulfo groups.

The structure of colloidal polyethylenimine–silica nanocomposite microparticles

Deposition of silica from an organosilane tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) onto parent polyethylenimine (PEI) microgel particles produces a novel PEI–silica nanocomposite, which possesses greater adsorption capacity for copper ions than either parent material. This study explores factors governing interactions of silica with the PEI matrix, along with structural features of resulting PEI–silica composite particles, to explain their properties and determine their application potential. The influence of initial TEOS/PEI mass ratio and the duration of silica deposition on the final silica content and distribution in the composite are studied. A comparative analysis of the structural architecture of chemically etched silica remnants, original PEI–silica composite particles and the parent PEI-microgel is carried out using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, small-angle X-ray scattering, and electron microscopy techniques. It is found that silica sol nanoparticles are evenly distributed throughout the PEI-microgel framework and interlinked with it via electrostatic interactions, enabling a structural model of the PEI–silica nanocomposite to be proposed. The chemical stability of resulting nanocomposite particles in parallel with the parent PEI-microgel is tested and shown to be robust for more than 100 days of storage in aqueous dispersions across a range of pH conditions, highlighting the application potential for these particles in copper capture.

Green synthesis of ceramsite from industrial wastes and its application in selective adsorption: Performance and mechanism

The increasing requirement and consumption of coal has resulted in a large accumulation of coal gangue. The reuse and recycling of coal gangue have become a high priority for sustainable development. A sustainable and efficient ceramsite adsorbent was prepared for copper ions adsorption by using coal gangue, coal fly ash, and copper slag as the main materials. The appropriate performance of the ceramsite could be obtained at a mixture of coal gangue, coal fly ash, and copper slag at a weight ratio of 3:4:1. The optimal sintering temperature and time were 1050 °C and 20 min, respectively. The main crystalline phases of ceramsite were quartz, mullite, and anorthite. Many micropores are connecting the interior on the surface of ceramsite under scanning electron microscope. The maximum copper ions adsorption capacity reached up to 20.6 mg/g at 303 K when pH and time were 5 and 1440 min, respectively. The adsorption kinetics and isotherm could be described by the pseudo-second-order model and Freundlich model, respectively. The adsorption mechanisms of Cu2+ with ceramsite were attributed to Cu(OH)2 precipitation formed on the alkaline surface of ceramsite and complexation reactions occurred between the O-containing groups (including C–O, Fe–O, and Si–O) from ceramsite and Cu2+. The prepared ceramsite may be also applied to other heavy metal wastewater treatments.

Flame retardant polyacrylonitrile fiber modified with hydrazine hydrate and copper ions

The limiting oxygen index (LOI) of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber is only around 18%, making it urgently needed to enhance flame retardancy. Treatment with hydrazine hydrate as cross-linking agents followed by adsorption of metal ions endows PAN fibers with excellent flame retardancy. The Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was employed to investigate the evolution of the chemical structure of the fibers. The atomic adsorption spectrometer (AAS) was carried out to study the adsorption capacity for copper ions. The wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to study the aggregate structure and morphology of the fibers. In addition, LOI, thermogravimetric analysis/infrared spectrometry (TG-FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were employed to clarify the flame-retardancy and the mechanisms. The mechanical property was studied via a single fiber tensile tester. The results showed that more chelating groups arose in macromolecular chains of PAN fibers after the reaction with hydrazine hydrate, with increased adsorption capacity for Cu2+. The LOI reached 24.0% after the treatment of hydrazine hydrate and the fiber was still flammable in the air. After the treatment with metal ions, the LOI of the fibers dramatically rose to 45.2%. The thermal decomposition process differed after the treatment of hydrazine hydrate, resulting in a more violent release of ammonia and a sharp reduction of flammable gases. The introduction of copper ions made fibers form dense carbon residue during thermal decomposition, which was beneficial for the improvement of flame retardancy.

Chitosan@TiO2 composites for the adsorption of copper(II) and antibacterial applications

Chitosan (CS) is a biopolymer that is well known for its ubiquity, biodegradability, lack of toxicity, low cost, antibacterial activity, and excellent heavy metal adsorption ability. We synthesized CS and CS@TiO2 composites (CST) with different concentrations of glutaraldehyde (crosslinking agent) solution by a simple method involving a crosslinking process (using glutaraldehyde as the crosslinking agent), a freeze-drying technique, and exchange with ammonia solution. The interaction mechanisms of the as-synthesized samples were systematically characterized by scanning electron microscopy, electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method. Among the as-synthesized samples, 3%CS-V (CS composites synthesized using 3% glutaraldehyde for crosslinking and exchanged with ammonia solution) at an initial concentration of 300 ppm exhibited a preferable adsorption capacity for copper ions (Cu2+), with a maximum adsorption capacity of 31 mg g− 1. Sorption equilibrium isotherms fit the Freundlich model. Compared to CS, 7%CST-V (CST composite synthesized using 7% glutaraldehyde for crosslinking and exchanged with ammonia solution) exhibited higher antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis due to a synergistic effect. The antimicrobial efficacy against Escherichia coli was more affected by copper ions than TiO2 addition and glutaraldehyde concentration, whereas the antimicrobial efficacy against S. epidermidis was more affected by TiO2 addition and exchange with ammonia solution.

Hydrodynamics and adsorption performance of liquid–solid fluidized bed with granular activated carbon for removal of copper ions from wastewater

The removal of copper ions from wastewater is of great significance for reducing pollution of surrounding environments and ensuring the quality of drinking water. In this study, a liquid–solid fluidized bed with nutshell activated carbon was used to adsorb copper ions from wastewater. The fluidization characteristics and adsorption performance of the liquid–solid fluidized bed were investigated through batch, cyclic, and continuous adsorption experiments. The results showed that nutshell activated carbon had a strong adsorption capacity for copper ions in wastewater by the electrostatic adsorption function of its oxygen-containing groups, and the adsorption isotherm was fitted by the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 reached 0.98), which indicated a positive single-layer adsorption. The pseudo-second-order model described the adsorption process well, and the adsorption process was controlled by a continuous migration step with internal and external diffusion. The high-frequency contact between adsorbent and adsorbate in the fluidized bed layer increased its external diffusion rate, thereby promoting improved adsorption efficiency of 96% compared with 76% of the packed bed. The weight of the particle bed was the factor influencing adsorption performance the most, followed by fluidization number, and then initial concentration, indicating that the fluidization characteristics determined the adsorption efficiency. The breakthrough curve showed that the adsorption saturations of the fluidized and packed bed were 0.694 and 0.660 g/g, respectively, which demonstrated the superiority of the fluidized bed in the adsorption process.

Amino acid-functionalized chitosan beads for in vitro copper ions uptake in the presence of histidine

One of the hallmarks of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is the anomalous binding involving amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide and metal ions, such as copper, formed through histidine (His) residues. Herein, adsorption experiments were performed to test the in vitro ability of chitosan to uptake copper ions in the presence of histidine. The characterization of the beads was assessed before and after the adsorption process by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Amino acid functionalization of chitosan-based beads promoted an increase in the copper ions adsorption capacity (2.47 mmol of Cu(II)/gram of adsorbent). Nevertheless, depending on the order of addition of histidine to the system, different adsorption behaviors were observed. The kinetics showed that, once the Cu(II)-His bond was established, functionalized beads were less efficient to capture Cu(II), which promoted a decrease in the overall adsorption capacity. However, when chitosan and histidine were simultaneously added to the Cu(II) solution, there was no decrease in adsorption capacity. To sum up, chitosan-based materials are an interesting model to provide a better understanding on the biomolecules‑copper interactions that occur in AD, as well as a possible chelating agent that can interfere in the bonds between Aβ residues and copper ions.

A porous material of cross-linked adenine-polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether for copper ion adsorption

A porous material (PEA) was prepared by the ring opening polymerization of polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether with adenine in a simple sol-gel method. The structure and composition of PEA were characterized by SEM, FT-IR, BET and XRD. The adsorption experiments of copper ion by PEA at different pH, temperature, contact time and initial concentration were studied. The results show that the PEA is macroporous, the optimum adsorption pH is 5 and the saturated adsorption time is 180 min. The maximum equilibrium adsorption capacity of copper ion is 80.1 mg g−1 at 40 °C according to the Langmuir model and the competitive adsorption test shows that PEA has good adsorption on copper ion, but low effect on cobalt, cadmium and nickel. The repeated adsorption experiments show that PEA could still adsorb 82% of the first adsorption capacity after 5 times elution. These results indicate that the PEA can be used as a practical adsorbent for copper ion adsorption in aqueous solution.

Adsorption Performance of Modified Fly Ash for Copper Ion Removal from Aqueous Solution

The initial characteristics of Romanian fly ash from the CET II Holboca power plant show the feasibility of its application for the production of a new material with applicability in environmental decontamination. The material obtained was characterized using standard techniques: scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area, and thermogravimetric differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The adsorption capacity of the obtained material was evaluated in batch systems with different values of the initial Cu(II) ion concentration, pH, adsorbent dose, and contact time in order to optimize the adsorption process. According to the experimental data presented in this study, the adsorbent synthesized has a high adsorption capacity for copper ions (qmax = 27.32–58.48 mg/g). The alkali treatment of fly ash with NaOH improved the adsorption capacity of the obtained material compared to that of the untreated fly ash. Based on the kinetics results, the adsorption of copper ions onto synthesized material indicated the chemisorption mechanism. Notably, fly ash can be considered an important beginning in obtaining new materials with applicability to wastewater treatment.

Effect of polyacrylonitrile hollow fiber modified membrane on heavy metal ion adsorption

In this paper, the adsorption of copper ions on the prepared multilayer diazo resin-graphene oxide/polyacrylonitrile composite membranes was studied, and the adsorption capacity of GO modified polyacrylonitrile membranes to copper ions under different conditions was explored. The concentration of copper ion solution before and after adsorption was measured by inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The results showed that the adsorption capacity of GO modified polyacrylonitrile membrane to copper ion increased first and then reached adsorption equilibrium with the increase of adsorption time of copper ion. With the increase of initial concentration of copper ion and external temperature, the adsorption capacity of GO modified polyacrylonitrile membrane to copper ion followed. With the increase of solution’s PH, the adsorption capacity of GO modified polyacrylonitrile membranes for copper ions first increased and then decreased. After several desorption/adsorption of the modified membranes which have reached the adsorption equilibrium, the membranes still have good adsorption capacity for copper ions, indicating that the membranes have excellent reuse performance.

Resource utilization and ionization modification of waste starch from the recycling process of old corrugated cardboard paper

Generally, the mechanical strength and stiffness of old corrugated cardboard (OCC) waste paper are decreased after multiple recycling procedures. Surface sizing starch, which is extensively used in the surface sizing of paper making, accumulates after dissolving from the fibers and is transformed into pollutant during the OCC re-pulping process. To overcome the pollution and reutilization problem of the waste starch during the recycling process of OCC paper, waste starch was ionized using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to improve the mechanical properties of OCC paper during the reutilization. The results showed that the carboxyl group of waste starch increased with an increasing degree of ionization, resulting in enhanced copper ion adsorption capacity. Furthermore, the retention rate of the modified starch in the wet-end increased from 18.0% to 48.2%. The OCC paper presented the highest burst index and tensile strength of 8.94 kPa m2/g and 112.5 N m/g, respectively, when MS-2 was added. This work has great significance for implementation of the cleaning production of OCC waste papers and the reutilization of the waste starch.

Adsorption of copper (II) cation on polysulfone/zeolite blend sheet membrane: Synthesis, characterization, experiments and adsorption modelling

Copper-polluted water has a significant impact on environment and cause human health risks. In the present study, a polysulfone/zeolite blend flat sheet membrane was prepared and tailored to adsorb copper ionsfrom aqueous solution. Physiochemical and morphological characteristics of polysulfone/zeolite membrane were analyzed by SEM, EDX and FTIR. Isotherms of the adsorption of copper ion on this membranewere experimentally quantified and analysedat temperatures from 303 to 343 K.Both batch and dynamic adsorption operating conditions were studied to determine themetal removal capability of the membranes. Adsorption study revealed that the metal removal of depended on pH solutionwhere the maximum pH value was 5.0. The highest experimental copper ion adsorption capacity was 101 mg/g. Besides, the dynamic adsorption experiment showed that the polysulfone/zeolite can be utilized to remove copper ions obtaininga high quality of permeate (i.e., <1 mg/L in the treated aqueous solution). This membrane can be used up to fifteen cycles of adsorption without a significant impact on its removal performance. Results obtained from EDX and FTIR studies were employed to describe the potential interaction mechanism between the polysulfone/zeolite membrane and copper ion. It was concluded that this membrane can perform a dual-function for the removal of this metal. To theoretically characterize the adsorption mechanism of this relevant pollutant, a physical model was utilized assuming that the adsorption can be occurred via the interaction with two types of functional groups. This theoretical model was successfully applied on the experimental adsorption data. The number of captured ions by two functional groups, adsorbent performance and adsorption energies were described in the paper to further interpret the adsorption mechanism.

Porous poly(L–lactic acid)/chitosan nanofibres for copper ion adsorption

Porous poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) nanofibrous membrane with the high surface area was developed by electrospinning and post acetone treatment and used as a substrate for deposition of chitosan. Chitosan was coated onto porous nanofibrous membrane via direct immersion coating method. The porous PLLA/chitosan structure provided chitosan a high surface framework to fully and effectively adsorb heavy metal ions from water and showed higher and faster ion adsorption. The composite membrane was used to eliminate copper ions from aqueous solutions. Chitosan acts as an adsorbent due to the presence of aminic and hydroxide groups which are operating sites for the capture of copper ions. The maximum adsorption capacity of copper ions reached 111.66 ± 3.22 mg/g at pH (7), interaction time (10 min) and temperature (25 °C). The adsorption kinetics of copper ions was established and was well agreed with the second-order model and Langmuir isotherm. Finally, the thermodynamic parameters were studied.

Preparation of PVDF-g-PAA-PAMAM membrane for efficient removal of copper ions

In this work, PVDF-g-PAA-PAMAM membranes were prepared by surface grafting different generation polyamide-amine (PAMAM) onto PVDF-g-PAA membranes. The structures of membranes were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). The adsorption properties of membranes to copper ions were studied, and the results found that PAMAM was successfully grafted onto the surface of PVDF-g-PAA membranes, and their hydrophilicity were significantly improved. The adsorption properties of PVDF-g-PAA-PAMAM membranes to copper ions were effectively improved. The PVDF-g-PAA-G3.0 PAMAM membrane has the best adsorption properties, and the adsorption capacity of copper ion can reach 100.98 mg/g, which was higher than that of pure membrane. At the same time, it can be found from the desorption experiments that the PVDF-g-PAA-PAMAM membrane can be recycled with high adsorption capacity, and the regeneration rate was higher than 90%.

Microstructural modification of organo‐montmorillonite with Gemini surfactant containing four ammonium cations: molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and adsorption capacity for copper ions

AbstractBACKGROUNDCopper is a heavy metal that is widely available in nature and has attracted people's attention because of its toxicity and difficult biodegradability. Using modified montmorillonite to adsorb copper ions (Cu2+) was widely adopted because of its simple operation, high efficiency, and easy availability.RESULTSNa‐montmorillonite (Na‐Mt) was modified through a Gemini surfactant (containing four ammonium cations) to explore the adsorption capacity for Cu2+ in aqueous media. The resulting product is called G‐Mt. FT‐IR XRDBET results indicated that Gemini surfactant has significantly intercalated into the montmorillonite interlayers. The results ofbatch adsorption experiments presented that the amount of adsorbed (qe) depend on pH value and qe (G‐Mt) can reach to 29.30 mg/g, which was greater than that of Na‐Mt (25.30 mg/g) when pH is 6.0 and initial Cu2+ concentration is 75 mg/L. The experimental data matched well with Langmuir isotherm. The thermodynamic analysis implied that adsorption of Cu2+ was endothermic and a spontaneous process. Molecular dynamics (MD) models were carried out to investigate the microstructure and kinetic information of Gemini cations in the interlayer of G‐Mt. The results elucidated that the distribution and interaction characteristic of ammonium cations of Gemini surfactant including four ammonium cations were completely different from that of the quaternary ammonium salts containing asingle ammonium cation.CONCLUSIONGenerally, considering the comprehensive performances, polyamine Gemini surfactant to modify montmorillonite can improve its ability to adsorb Cu2+. Research on the modification of PAN hollow fiber membrane with high heavy metal ions adsorption

PAN hollow fiber functional membrane with heavy metal ion adsorption capacity was prepared via layer-by-layer method using diazo-resin (DR). Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and graphene oxide (GO) with chelating function were used as modifier. Modification effect was studied by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR), contact angle test, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the copper ion adsorption capacity measurement. The result showed that EDTA and GO were successfully grafted on the surface of modified membrane and the hydrophilicity of the modified membrane increased. Roughness of membrane surface increased when the functional groups introduced on the surface. Adsorption for Cu2+ of modified membrane significantly improved.
