Integration of BIM and Chinese Architectural Heritage: A Bibliometric Analysis Research

The research on the application of BIM technology in architectural heritage is increasing. Building information modeling (BIM) makes the realization of architectural heritage assessment, design, and management systematic and effective. However, little is known about the use of China-based BIM in conjunction with architectural heritage. Therefore, this study conducted a systematic literature analysis to determine the application fields and development trends of BIM and architectural heritage research in China. A total of 186 articles were retrieved from CNKI, of which 167 met the inclusion criteria and formed the basis of this systematic literature analysis. With the aid of the literature research visualization analysis software VOSviewer and SATI, a comprehensive literature visualization analysis was carried out. It was determined that the hot fields of BIM research in architectural heritage in China are mainly focused on (a) the perspective of data acquisition and measurement technology, (b) the perspective of model construction based on point cloud data acquisition, and (c) the perspective of BIM model application. Future research trends may focus on the information research of architectural heritage, combined with the application of BIM technology in the whole life cycle management of architectural heritage and other aspects.

Cracking The Dilemma of Network Service Providers' Duty of Care: Based on The Perspective of Direct Benefit Acquisition

With the increasing scale of the domestic network economy, legal issues in this field continue to appear in our field of vision, such as the endless infringement of network users, which has become an important issue in the governance of the current network economy. Although China has introduced the "notice-delete" rule in the legislative field for the indirect infringement of network service providers, with the passage of time, the "notice-delete" rule has shown many shortcomings in terms of response speed and efficiency in protecting the rights and interests of right holders. Although some scholars have proposed the duty of care for network service providers in response to this phenomenon, there are many controversies in the field of domestic and foreign legal science and judicial circles on the duty of care. From the perspective of direct benefit acquisition, this paper takes how network service provider shall bear the responsibility the duty of care as the research object, analyzes the problem by case analysis and comparative research methods, and draws the conclusion that the conditions for obtaining direct benefits should be reasonably and appropriately used, so that network service providers can bear the corresponding duty of care for the direct benefits they have obtained, in order to promote the continuous improvement of the network service provider responsibility system, and make corresponding contributions to completely clearing up the chaos of network infringement and purifying the network environment.

The Digital Transformation Effect in Trade Credit Uptake: The Buyer Perspective

ABSTRACT Combined with buyer market theory, we attempt to analyze the relationship between digital transformation and trade credit financing from an advantage acquisition perspective. Using financial and text data from the annual reports of Chinese listed companies from 2010–2020, we find that digital transformation has a significant promotion effect on firm trade credit financing. This result is robust after accounting for a series of endogeneity and other tests. A further examination reveals that operation efficiency, information transparency, and reputation are inducement mechanisms. We also find that the promotion effect is particularly more pronounced for state-owned firms in areas with sound product market development and supply chains with lower supplier concentration. These findings have implications for understanding the role played by digital transformation in trade credit financing.

The enterprise's external knowledge acquisition capability and technological diversification: From the perspective of intellectual property strategy.

Enterprises need intellectual property rights to protect their core knowledge, and technological diversification is an important strategic measure for enterprises to improve innovation performance. From the perspective of external resource acquisition, this study explores the mechanism of external knowledge acquisition capability (internal absorptive capability and external relational learning) on firm's technological diversification. It considers the impact of firm's innovation capability and external environmental uncertainty. The survey data of 258 Chinese pharmaceutical companies were obtained through questionnaire surveys, and various theoretical hypotheses were validated using regression analysis methods. The results show that internal absorptive capacity, external relational learning, and their interaction have a significant positive impact on technological diversification; the innovation capacity and the uncertainty of the external environment also affect enterprises' technological diversification.

How Does Philanthropy Influence Innovation Management Systems? A Moderated Mediation Model with a Social Exchange Perspective

Social philanthropy and innovation systems both require significant resource investment—how can organizations achieve both? This paper combines social exchange theory, signaling theory and imprinting theory to analyze the intrinsic dynamics mechanism from the perspective of government technology resource acquisition and to explore the influential role of generalist CEOs. Based on the hand-collected multidimensional career experience dataset of CEOs and the quantitative analysis of 3651 enterprises in China’s A-share listed manufacturing industry from 2010–2019, the results show that: philanthropic donation has a systematic contribution to corporate innovation investment, in which government science and technology (S&T) resource acquisition plays a partially mediating role; generalist CEOs significantly enhance the effect of philanthropic donations and government S&T resource acquisition on innovation investment. Finally, the statistical results remain stable in the lagged effects experiment and the IV-2SLS model analysis using exogenous variables. The contribution of this study lies in expanding the research on maximizing the combined benefits of economic value creation and social performance from a social exchange perspective, and helping us understand why the share of generalists in the global managerial market big data has been steadily increasing.

Dear Program Directors: There Are Numerous Entrustable Professional Activities on a Burns Rotation!

Background: Burn care has long been an integral part of the scope of plastic surgery, but the time allocated to exposure for plastic surgery residents is under threat due to the range of sub-specialities competing for their time. As part of the Competence by Design approach to plastic surgical training, residents are provided with a list of 52 "Entrustable professional activities' (EPA's) to ensure that core skills and knowledge are acquired. Methods: This survey, distributed via email using a link to Survey MonkeyTM, sought to determine which EPA's were available for completion by plastic surgeons in training during the burn rotation at a major academic burn centre in Canada. Via investigator consensus, 26 of the 52 EPA's were included for assessment; the remaining 26 were not regarded as relevant to the burn centre rotation and therefore better acquired elsewhere. Results: Thirty two residents who underwent a burn rotation between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2021 completed the anonymous survey. Seventeen of the 26 EPA's evaluated were judged by more than 75% of respondents as being readily amenable to completion during the burn rotation. Most of these EPA's relate to the comprehensive care of patients with acute burn injuries, the management of an in-patient plastic surgery service, and associated quality improvement processes. Residents who completed rotations less than three months in duration had less opportunity to complete a further 8 EPA's in comparison to those who had longer rotations, especially with respect to the care of patients undergoing complex wound care and burn reconstruction. Conclusions: In addition to threatening seamless service delivery at burn centres, reduced resident exposure to the burn rotation may compromise the delivery of burn care in the community. The results of this survey refute any argument that the burn service is a "low yield" rotation from an EPA acquisition perspective.

Fighting rumors to fight COVID-19: Investigating rumor belief and sharing on social media during the pandemic

The outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, a significant health threat, influenced information-related behaviors and induced increased rumor-sharing behaviors on social media. Fighting COVID-19 thus entails the need to fight the rumors as well, providing a strong motivation to explore rumor-related behavior during this extraordinary period. From the perspective of information acquisition, we predicted that information acquisition from social and traditional media would interactively influence rumor-related decisions (i.e., rumor belief and sharing) and that critical thinking would shape this relationship. Through a survey of 2424 individuals who used social media during the pandemic, we found that information acquisition from social media was negatively related to rumor sharing and that rumor belief mediated this relationship. Meanwhile, information acquisition from traditional media weakened the negative effect of information acquisition from social media on rumor belief, and critical thinking alleviated the positive effect of rumor belief on rumor sharing. This study contributes to the literature by explaining the diffusion of COVID-19 rumors on social media from an information perspective and revealing how different information sources and thinking styles come into conflict in rumor decisions.

The impact of business-to-business salespeople’s social media use on value co-creation and cross/up-selling: the role of social capital

PurposeThis study aims to develop and test a process model of the effect of social media use by business-to-business (B2B) salespeople on their value cocreation and cross/upselling performance. Adopting a research acquisition perspective, the authors claim that salesperson’s social media use is critical for generating social capital – an operant resource characterized by superior market knowledge, reputation and networking – which, in turn, directly and synergistically enhances value cocreation and cross/upselling outcomes.Design/methodology/approachA model is developed based on extant sales research on salesperson’s social media use and social capital theory. Data from B2B salespeople is analyzed using structural equation modeling to test the proposed hypotheses.FindingsThe results demonstrate that salespeople’s social media use enhances their social capital with support for direct effects on market knowledge and reputation, and indirect effect on networking. The results also show that the three aspects of social capital drive value cocreation, which enhances cross/upselling performance. Post hoc analysis shows the indirect effects of salesperson’s social media use as well as the interconnected effects of the aspects of social capital on value cocreation.Practical implicationsThe study indicates that salespeople should be encouraged to use social media as a means for enhancing market knowledge and reputation, which can then be leveraged to build networking skills. Providing training to salespeople and coaching them on how to build their social capital is essential if organizations need to capitalize on novel ways to improve the value cocreation performance of their sales teams.Originality/valueThis study demonstrates how salespeople’s social media use can enhance their social capital, which, in turn, is critical for value cocreation and cross/upselling performance. The proposed framework opens opportunities for future studies to examine the role of salesperson social capital and value cocreation in B2B exchanges.

Goodwill Impairment, Loss Avoidance Effects and Subsequent Corporate M&A Decisions

ABSTRACT Against the background of increasingly serious goodwill impairment, it is important to explore the comprehensive effects triggered by goodwill impairment. This paper explores the economic consequences of goodwill impairment from the perspective of subsequent merging and acquisition (M&A) decision, and attempts to interpret it from the psychological theory of loss aversion effects. The empirical results show that: (1) the firms with goodwill impairment experience decreasing significantly M&A scale and frequency in the future; (2) the results above are more pronounced for the corporates with those managers who are not over-confident, and have more defensive strategies, and higher financing constraints; (3) goodwill impairment improves firm’s investment efficiency by reducing over-investment, and improves subsequent M&A performance. Above results imply that goodwill impairment may prompt managers to be more cautious in M&A activities, and make more value-added subsequent acquisitions. Our findings have important implications for understanding the comprehensive impact of goodwill impairment on corporate M&A decision-making.

Radar Interferometry as a Monitoring Tool for an Active Mining Area Using Sentinel-1 C-Band Data, Case Study of Riotinto Mine

Soil instability is a major hazard facing the mining industry in its role of supplying the indispensable mineral resources that our societal challenges require. Aiming to demonstrate the monitoring potential of radar satellites in the mining sector, we analyze the deformation field in the Riotinto mine, Spain. We propose a new method for combining ascending and descending results into a common dataset that provides better resolution. We project the LOS measurements resulting from both geometries to a common reference system without applying any type of geometric restriction. As a projection system, we use the vertical direction in flat areas and the slope in steep topographies. We then identify and remove outliers and artifacts from the joint dataset to finally obtain a deformation map that combines the two acquisition perspectives. The results in the Atalaya pit are consistent with GNSS measurements. The movements observed in the rock dumps were unknown before this study. We demonstrate the great potential of the Sentinel-1 satellite as a complementary tool for monitoring systems in mining environments and we call for its use to be standardized to guarantee a safe and sustainable supply of mineral resources necessary for a just technological transition.

Functional adequacy, task-based language teaching and instructed second language acquisition

Abstract This commentary synthesizes the five articles in Kuiken and Vedder’s special issue on functional adequacy in linguistic performance. The commentary considers the different scales that were used to measure functional adequacy, as well as the relationship between functional adequacy and other measures of linguistic performance such as complexity, accuracy, and fluency. The commentary also considers how functional adequacy might be usefully incorporated more frequently into studies from a task-based language teaching or instructed second language acquisition perspective, both as pedagogical instruction and as a means of measuring linguistic development.

Analysis of the β-cyclodextrin enhancing Bio-denitrification from the Perspective of Substrate Metabolism, Electron Transfer, and Iron Acquisition

Denitrification is widely applied in wastewater treatment systems for nitrogen removal, but it is still disturbed by unsatisfactory efficiency, nitrite accumulation, and nitrous oxide emission. In this study, the presence of 0.5 mM β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), an oligosaccharide chemical compound, effectively promoted the nitrate reduction by Paracoccus denitrificans from 68.02% to 82.78% after 20 h of cultivation. Meanwhile, the exogenous addition of β-CD significantly up-regulated the expression of denitrification-related genes (narG, nirS, norB, and nosZ), and mitigated the accumulation of nitrite and nitrous oxide emission. Notably, different from traditional organic substances for enhancing denitrification, this study not only identified β-CD increased electron generation and ATP synthesis from glucose metabolism of P. denitrificans instead of being utilized as an external carbon source, but also observed the relative promotion of β-CD on electron transfer and denitrification were positively correlated with ambient iron concentration. The addition of β-CD stimulated bacterial EPS secretion and indirectly enriched peripheral iron, and simultaneously benefited the iron transmembrane transportation and intracellular iron concentration. Given the whole process of iron enrichment and transportation, β-CD was demonstrated to improve denitrification and electron transfer via promoting iron acquisition. This study first revealed the enhancement of β-CD on bio-denitrification via iron acquisition, which provided a novel basis for its application in nitrogen removal.

Culture and sustainable development: The role of merger and acquisition in Italian B Corps

AbstractThe aim of this study is to describe and analyse the relationship between the phenomenon of B Corp and M&A operations carried out by these companies. Italy is the second country at the international level and the first country at the European level to have been particularly active in this direction (Law n.208/2015). Therefore, a questionnaire was developed and sent to the certified Italian B Corps. The medium‐long‐term vision emerged in particular, and the values that guide these companies are ethics, sustainability and transparency. These are aspects that particularly characterise the ideals, identity and culture of B Corps, which are also involved in social and environmental issues. The research shows how corporate culture influences these companies from a merger and acquisition perspective. Cultural compatibility is important, as it allows the companies to operate according to common or similar visions regarding certain aspects that other companies probably find less important.

Learning of Wheelchair Racing Propulsion Skills Over Three Weeks of Wheeling Practice on an Instrumented Ergometer in Able-Bodied Novices.

The acquisition of daily handrim wheelchair propulsion skill as a multi-layered phenomenon has been studied in the past. Wheelchair racing, however, is considerably different from daily handrim wheelchair propulsion in terms of propulsion technique, as well as the underlying equipment and interface. Understanding wheelchair racing skill acquisition is important from a general motor learning and skill acquisition perspective, but also from a performance and injury prevention perspective. The aim of the current lab-based study was 2-fold: to investigate the evolution of racing wheelchair propulsion skill among a sample of novices and to compare them with an experienced wheelchair racer under similar conditions. A convenience sample of 15 able-bodied novices (8 male, 7 female) completed a standardized three-week submaximal uninstructed practice protocol (3 weeks, 3 sessions per week, 3x4 min per session) in a racing wheelchair on an ergometer. Required wheeling velocity was set at 2.78 m/s (10 km/h) and a rolling friction coefficient of 0.011 (resulting in a mean target load of 21W) was used. For comparison, an experienced T54 Paralympic athlete completed one block of the same protocol. Kinetics, kinematics, and physiological data were captured. A mixed effects regression analysis was used to examine the effect of practice for the novices, while controlling for speed. All participants finished the protocol successfully. However, not all participants were able to achieve the target speed during the first few sessions. Statistically significant improvements over time were found for all outcome measures (i.e., lower metabolic strain, longer push and cycle times) with the exception of mean power and torque per push. The athlete used a significantly greater contact angle and showed “better” outcomes on most metabolic and kinetic variables. While the athlete used a semi-circular propulsion technique, most participants used a double looping over technique. Three weeks of uninstructed wheelchair racing practice significantly improved efficiency and skill among a group of novices, in line with previous studies on daily handrim wheelchair propulsion. The comparison with an experienced athlete expectedly showed that there is still a large performance (and knowledge) gap to be conquered.

THE ANALYSIS OF CORPORATE PERFORMANCE AND GOVERNANCE ON INDUSTRY COMPETITION RATINGS IN CHINA

This paper studies the influence of corporate performance and governance on the rating of industry competition degrees from 2012 to 2016. This study uses the ordered logit model and focuses on the non-manufacturing and manufacturing industries from the acquisition perspective and evaluates the rating change of industry competition. The results found that Tobin Q, Earnings Per Share, Management Layer Total Annual Salary, and Number of Board Directors impact the rating changes for industry competition. The manufacturing enterprises can improve the value and income by increasing investment when the market is more concentrated. It can expand the size of the board of directors and reduce compensation to improve the governance ability of the management. The corporate performance and governance of manufacturing industries are more competitive than non-manufacturing industries in the monopolized market. The government offers an efficient manufacturing ecosystem, emphasizes governance policies, and reduces M&A taxes helping localization and industry competition.

The Double-Edged Sword Effect of Relational Crafting on Job Well-Being.

Is relational crafting always beneficial? Despite the increasing research on the positive outcomes of relational crafting, some evidence still indicates its dysfunctional consequences. The current study proposed a double-edged sword effect of relational crafting on job well-being, including work dynamics and emotional exhaustion, with an integrative perspective from the resource loss and resource acquisition perspectives based on the job demands-resources model and the conservation of resources theory. By conducting a two-stage questionnaire survey on 323 employees, the results demonstrate that: (1) On the one hand, relational crafting induces emotional exhaustion through increased work load; (2) On the other hand, relational crafting also displays positive effect on increasing work dynamics and decreasing emotional exhaustion by fostering supervisor-subordinate guanxi. By analyzing the double-edged sword effect of subordinates’ relational crafting on job well-being from the two processes of resource loss and resource acquisition effects, a more complete influencing mechanism between relational crafting and job well-being is constructed, which improves the understanding of relational crafting, enriches the literature on proactive behavior and provides a more integrated theoretical basis for researchers and managers.

Knowledge is power: toward a combined model of knowledge acquisition and knowledge application of enterprises

PurposeThis paper aims to theoretically investigate a knowledge management model from the combined perspective of knowledge acquisition and knowledge application and its effect on organizational performance.Design/methodology/approachThis study reviews prior research on knowledge acquisition and knowledge application, puts forward the concepts of “the extensiveness of knowledge acquisition” and “the concentration of knowledge application” and more importantly proposes an integrated model by combining these two dimensions. Four case examples of enterprises are subsequently described and analyzed to illustrate the sources of knowledge acquisition, the objects of knowledge application and their influences on organizational performance.FindingsFour knowledge management modes and their impacts are confirmed in this study. Specifically, the organization of the turbojet engine mode (high extensiveness of knowledge acquisition and high concentration of knowledge application) can achieve good performance. The pipeline mode (high extensiveness of knowledge acquisition and low concentration of knowledge application) is the second, which has limited influence on good organizational performance. Organizations with the flashlight mode (low extensiveness of knowledge acquisition and high concentration of knowledge application) can achieve limited performance under the appropriate environment. The candle mode (low extensiveness of knowledge acquisition and low concentration of knowledge application) is the worst, performance of which is poor due to the break of the knowledge chain.Practical implicationsThis paper holds that organizations should actively use the turbojet engine mode, adopt the pipeline mode and the flashlight mode cautiously, and avoid falling into the candle mode.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is among the first to propose the concepts of “the extensiveness of knowledge acquisition” and “the concentration of knowledge application,” and provides a combined model for analyzing differences in organizational performance from the perspective of knowledge.
