Tailoring Bi2Se3 Topological Insulator for Visible-NIR Photodetectors with Schottky Contacts Using Liquid Phase Exfoliation.

Layered semiconductors of the V-VI group have attracted considerable attention in optoelectronic applications owing to their atomically thin structures. They offer thickness-dependent optical and electronic properties, promising ultrafast response time, and high sensitivity. Compared to the bulk, 2D bismuth selenide (Bi2Se3) is recently considered a highly promising material. In this study, 2D nanosheets are synthesized by prolonged sonication in two different solvents, such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and chitosan-acetic acid solution (CS-HAc), using the liquid-phase exfoliation (LPE) method. X-ray diffraction confirms the amorphous nature of exfoliated 2D nanosheets with maximum peak intensity at the same position (015) crystal plane as that obtained in its bulk counterpart. SEM confirms the thin 2D nanosheet-like morphology. Successful exfoliation of Bi2Se3 nanosheets up to five layers is achieved using CS-HAc solvent. The as-synthesized 2D nanosheets in different solvents are employed to fabricate the photodetector. At minimum selected power density, the photodetector fabricated using exfoliated ultrathin 2D nanosheets exhibits the highest range of responsivity, varying from 15 to 2.5 mA/W, and detectivity ranging from 2.83 × 109 to 6.37 × 107. Ultrathin 2D Bi2Se3 nanosheets have fast rise and fall times, ranging from 0.01 to 0.12 and 0.01 to 0.06 s, respectively, at different wavelengths. Ultrathin Bi2Se3 nanosheets have improved photodetection parameters as compared to multilayered nanosheets due to the high surface to volume ratio, reduced recombination and trapping of charge carrier, improved carrier confinement, and faster carrier transport due to the thin layer.

Novel nanoparticle CS-C60-Fe3O4 magnetically induces tissue-specific aggregation and enhances thermal ablation of hepatocellular carcinoma

Metallofullerenes are an important type of metallic nanomaterial with promising applications in several medical fields. Thermal ablation, including radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation (MWA), is an important treatment strategy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The thermal expansion of fullerenes makes them good adjuncts to thermal ablation treatment of HCC. In this study, we used an innovative method of emulsification and cross-linking to produce CS-C60-Fe3O4 (Chitosan-C60-Fe3O4) nanoparticles, which have the advantages of uniform particle size and high bioavailability, as a kind of novel nano-pharmaceutical. The CS-C60-Fe3O4 nanoparticles were prepared by the cross-linking reaction from chitosan–acetic acid solution, Fe3O4 nanoparticles by Fe2SO4·7H2O and FeCl3·6H2O, and C60. The average particle size of CS-C60-Fe3O4 was 194.3 nm. Because CS-C60-Fe3O4 is magnetic, it can achieve specific and tissue aggregation in HCC tumor tissues. Moreover, compared with normal soluble C60 (EL35-C60), CS-C60-Fe3O4 prolonged the retention time of C60 in the blood of mice. CS-C60-Fe3O4 alone is not cytotoxic to cultured cells or tumor tissues, but when combined with thermal ablation strategies (RFA and MWA), it significantly upregulates the antitumor effects of thermal ablation on HCC tissues, that is, it acts as a sensitiser to thermal ablation. In the presence of thermal ablation, CS-C60-Fe3O4 interfered with iron metabolism in HCC cells and induced ferroptosis of HCC cells in the tumor tissues. These results not only expand our understanding of metallofullerenes but also provide additional options for the treatment of advanced HCC.

Biosynthesis of ZnO Nano-particle and its quality evaluation on the shelf life extension of fruit

Consumers around the world want fruits with high quality, without chemical preservatives, and with an extended shelf life. Edible films and coating received a considerable amount of attention in recent years because they are useful and beneficial over synthetic packaging. Prolonging of shelf life of food is an important goal to be attained. Many storage techniques have been adapted to extend the marketing distance and holding periods for commodities after harvest. Edible coatings are thin layers of edible material applied to the product surface to provide a barrier to moisture, oxygen, and solute movement for food. The purpose of this study was to produce bio-synthesized ZnO Nano-particles from spinach. The coating solution is prepared by mixing Nano-particles with chitosan-acetic acid solution and evaluates the shelf-life after treatment as a coating. The study showed that coated fruit maintained its quality up to 28 days of the study period. Thus, it can be concluded that ZnO Nano-particles can be used as a coating for increasing shelf-life.

Preparation of modified zeolite/chitosan composites and study on the adsorption performance of Pb2+

AbstractAs one of the most common pollutants in wastewater, heavy metals seriously threaten human health and survival, and among the current removal methods, the adsorption method has attracted the most attention because of its simple and safe operation. Zeolite is a substance with a unique spatial structure, cheap cost, and environmental friendliness. Zeolite is a substance with a unique spatial structure, cheap cost, and environmental friendliness. Due to its size and high surface area‐to‐volume ratio, zeolite exhibits excellent adsorption and ion exchange properties and is a promising adsorbent. In this paper, the modified zeolite chitosan composite film was prepared by solution method by dissolving chitosan in acetic acid solution as the solvent, and the effects of zeolite content, modifier type, initial pH, pore‐making agent, adsorption time, adsorption temperature, initial concentration, and feeding amount were studied. The optimal conditions for Pb2+ adsorption were 40% modified zeolite content, 293 K in 100 mg/L solution, a feeding amount of 1 g/L, pH = 5.5, and a removal rate of 96.6% in 24 h. The isotherm is consistent with the Langmuir adsorption model, which is manifested as single‐molecule chemical adsorption, and the highest saturated adsorption capacity is 139.6 mg/g. After five cycles, it still has a greater than 90% initial adsorption effect.Highlights Chitosan‐modified zeolite composite membranes are inexpensive. After adsorption, the sorbent is easy to recover.

Investigating the Correlation Between Drug Physical Properties and Physical Characteristics and Drug Entrapment Efficiencies of Chitosan-TPP Nanoparticles

Chitosan nanoparticles (NPs) have been the subject of intensive research. This study aimed to determine how different drug characteristics such as molecular weights, drug solubility in the processing medium, and drug ionization/charge state affected chitosan NPs particularly their percentage entrapment efficiency (% EE) and mean hydrodynamic diameters (MHDs). Drugs with varying molecular weights but of similar aqueous solubilities were chosen and were dissolved in a 2% chitosan-acetic acid solution. Chitosan NPs were formed using by ionic gelation technique using sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) at specific concentration and volume ratios of chitosan to TPP. NPs containing Enalapril and Paracetamol displayed better short-term stability in terms of MHDs. A direct relationship between MHDs of NPs and chitosan concentrations was found. In comparison, at both low and high admixed drug concentrations and at high chitosan concentration, larger NPs sizes were associated with the lower molecular weight drug (Paracetamol). However, the study did not demonstrate a direct relationship between NPs characteristics such as MHDs and drugs molecular weights. The ZP of Paracetamol-loaded NPs was lowest at high drug concentrations at all chitosan concentrations compared to other drugs-loaded NPs. When compared to drugs with high and low molecular weights, medium molecular weight Atenolol showed the highest % EE. This clearly indicated that there was no direct correlation between drug molecular weight and % EE, but rather other factors influenced on % EE. Nevertheless, an inverse linear relationship with high correlation coefficients was only found when % EE was plotted against each drug molecular weight divided by the ratio of drugs solubilities in acetic acid to their employed concentrations, however the correlation was inconsistent between drugs of varying molecular weights.

Properties of Nanocomposites Based on Platinum Nanoparticles Stabilized by Chitosan

AbstractPlatinum nanoparticles were obtained chemically in acetic acid solutions of chitosan from the precursor H2PtCl6 using sodium borohydride as a reducing agent with simultaneous UV irradiation. The compositions were studied by SAXS, TEM, dynamic light scattering, FTIR‐spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis, and atomic force microscopy. Nanoparticles are characterized by a narrowly dispersed size distribution while the effect of the conformation of chitosan macromolecules on their characteristics is manifested. The SAXS method showed that in a chitosan solution with a semi‐flexible coil conformation of macromolecules, 96.8 % of the formed nanoparticles are characterized by an average radius of 1.4 nm. According to the TEM results, platinum nanoparticles are characterized by a crystal structure and a particle diameter of about 1.3–5.0 nm. A different picture is observed for platinum nanoparticles formed in chitosan with the rigid rod conformation of macromolecules – only 91 % of platinum nanoparticles had an average radius of 1.4 nm. The TEM method showed these nanoparticles turned out to be about 1 nm in size, and they did not crystallize, but remained amorphous. The introduction of platinum nanoparticles into the polysaccharide matrix significantly shifts the glass transition temperature of chitosan toward lower values by 20 and 10 °C respectively, and increases the tensile strength of the composites by 35 MPa.

Preparation and characterization of thermosensitive hydrogel system for dual sustained-release of chlorhexidine and bovine serum albumin

Chlorhexidine (CHX)/β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) inclusion and chitosan nanoparticles containing bovine serum albumin (CS/BSA) were blended into chitosan acetic acid solution respectively or simultaneously to prepare a novel thermosensitive hydrogel dual sustained-release system. Rheological properties, release, cytocompatibility, and antibacterial activity were investigated. The results confirmed that CHX/β-CD and CS/BSA were well dispersed in the solution, and the rheological property of hydrogel was not affected. The system exhibited promising dual sustained release and cytocompatibility. Antibacterial results showed that CHX-loaded hydrogel had a desirable therapeutic effect on Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli).

Silver-loaded microspheres reinforced chitosan scaffolds for skin tissue engineering

In order to improve the mechanical properties and antibacterial properties of skin tissue engineering scaffolds, a microspheres-reinforced composite construct with controlled release property was designed. The silver-loaded chitosan (CS) microspheres (Ag@CMs) were prepared by emulsified crosslinking method. Ag@CMs were introduced into CS acetic acid solution and then Ag@CMs embedded porous CS scaffolds were fabricated by lyophilization method. The results show that Ag@CMs are uniformly distributed inside porous CS scaffolds and there is no significant effect on the structure of the pores. The Ag@CMs/CS composite scaffolds possess high porosity (66.03 ± 0.15) %. The compressive strength and modulus of the composite scaffold reach up to 0.47 ± 0.03 MPa and 3.95 ± 0.06 MPa, respectively, significantly higher than pure CS scaffold. The in vitro drug delivery tests and antibacterial activity tests illustrate that composite scaffolds have efficient antibacterial properties and excellent drug sustained-release performance. MTT assay indicates that Ag@CMs/CS porous scaffold can provide an interconnected porous structure and large surface area for mouse fibroblast cell (L929) adhesion and proliferation. These results suggest that Ag@CMs/CS porous scaffold is a promising candidate for skin tissue engineering.

Flexible monolithic phase change material based on carbon nanotubes/chitosan/poly(vinyl alcohol)

Currently, most reported composite phase change materials (PCMs) are powdery shape, which require secondary processing for practical applications. Although some monolithic composite PCMs have been developed, their flexibility usually undergoes a remarkable reduction or even complete disappearance when supporting materials are infiltrated with PCMs. To solve this problem, we fabricated a flexible supporting material with a folded layer-bridge network structure by dispersing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in acetic acid solution of chitosan (CS) with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) using a directional freezing method. Then CS/PVA/CNTs (CPC) scaffold was infiltrated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to prepare PEG@CPC composite PCM. The resulting flexible composite PCM displays excellent mechanical properties, such as high tensile strength of 2.42 MPa and bending resistance of >100 cycles. Moreover, it displays outstanding thermal properties, such as high crystallinity of close to 100% and encapsulation ratio of 92.6 wt%. This work provides a simple method for preparation of flexible monolithic composite PCMs for many potential applications, such as wearable fitting-skin temperature-controlled materials.

Preparation of Coated Corrugated Box for Controlled-Release of Chlorine Dioxide and Its Application in Strawberry Preservation

Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) has received great attention as a nontoxic and efficient antimicrobial agent for the preservation of fresh fruits and vegetables. A novel two-layer coated corrugated box was developed to release gaseous ClO2 under the trigger of moisture in this study. The inner surface of the box was firstly coated with a mixture of polyvinyl alcohol-NaClO2-diatomite and then with chitosan acetic acid solution. Results showed that ClO2 was successfully released under high humidity due to the reaction of NaClO2, water vapor and acid. The concentration of released ClO2 increased with the increasing NaClO2 content in the coating, while the addition of diatomite stabilized and extended the release. To evaluate the preservation effect, strawberries were packed in the coated box and stored at room temperature. Compared with the control, the decay rate and weight loss of the strawberries packed in the coated box (9 g/L NaClO2) were reduced up to 21.88% and 6.84%, respectively. The surface color, firmness and nutrients content were also better maintained. Therefore, this coated corrugated box with the capability to release ClO2 under the trigger of moisture has great potential to be applied as an antimicrobial packaging for fresh fruits and vegetables.

Yb3+-containing chitosan hydrogels induce B-16 melanoma cell anoikis via a Fak-dependent pathway

AbstractMelanoma is the most lethal dermal tumor, and a high recurrence rate and skin defects are two main serious problems. An antimelanoma material,which effectively inhibits tumor recurrence and possesses excellent biocompatibility, is urgently needed to treat melanoma. In this study, we developed a novel antitumor Yb3+ [Yb(NO3)3]containing chitosan hydrogel (Yb-CS hydrogel) by dissolving Yb(NO3)3 and chitosan in acetic acid solution and forming composite hydrogels by a freeze-drying process after adding NaOH to the mixed solution. In vitro studies demonstrated that the Yb3+ produces effect of inducing cell death in Yb-CS hydrogel. Moreover, we found that the Yb-CS hydrogel inhibited a focal adhesion kinase (FAK)-dependent signaling pathway and induced B-16 cell anoikis. However, the Yb-CS hydrogel was less effective on L929 normal mouse dermal cells. In vivo studies showed that the Yb-CS hydrogel inhibited the recurrence of melanoma in a mouse bare xenograft tumor model. We concluded that the Yb-CS hydrogel could potentially be used in the antimelanoma field, especially in the inhibition of melanoma recurrence.

Study on the Effect of Prawn (Machrobrachuim rosenbergii) Chitosan Coating on Peeled Shallot (Allium ascalonicum)

Shallot (Allium ascalonicum) is the most important commercial vegetable crop grown in India. Shallot peeling is tough and consumes time. The availability of peeled shallots in markets will reduce the time consumed on peeling shallots for cooking. But peeled shallot does not have longer shelf life. Edible coating for peeled shallots can reduce spoilage and can inhibit microbial growth too. The Chitosan coating of shallots was based on the dipping method of coating fruits and vegetables. The study on coating chitosan in shallots and different parameters with varying composition were analyzed. The physio-chemical parameters like protein content, carbohydrate content, calcium content and total phenols content and weight loss shows that there is a significant difference with coated and uncoated Shallot stored at 4C for a period of 15 days. The microbial studies and physical characteristic studies show that number of microbes and decay is significantly less for coated onion samples compared with uncoated samples respectively. The inhibitory effect of chitosan produced from prawn shell against fungi was studied by adding 0.2% oregano oil, 0.4% of Tween 80 (polysorbate 80) and 0.7% of Glycerol. The Zone of inhibition was obtained has which were found to be 3.1cm, 1.5cm and 2.9cm for Oregano (Or), Thyme (Th) and Mint (M) leaves. Addition of 0.1% Tween 80 to 1.5 % chitosan in acetic acid solution improved the effectiveness of coating on the Shallot skin. The above study revealed that Chitosan coatings were in effect on successful quality improvement and extending shelf life of Shallot by delayed ripening, lowered respiration rate, regulated gas exchange, decrease in transpiration rate, retaining fruit firmness, reduction in weight loss etc.

Aggregation-Caused Quenching-Type Naphthalimide Fluorophores Grafted and Ionized in a 3D Polymeric Hydrogel Network for Highly Fluorescent and Locally Tunable Emission

Polymer hydrogels with intense yet tunable fluorescence are of great research interest due to their wide potential use in biological imaging, sensing, information storage, etc. However, the conventional fluorophores such as naphthalimide and its derivatives are usually not recommended to prepare highly fluorescent hydrogels because of their aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) nature and spontaneous tendency to undergo fluorescence self-quenching in quasi-solid-state hydrogel systems. Additionally, local regulation over fluorescent behavior of hydrogels, despite being important, still remains underdeveloped. Herein, we report highly fluorescent polymeric hydrogels based on conventional ACQ-type naphthalimide fluorophores, followed by spatial and temporal control of their fluorescent behavior. The hydrogels were prepared by one-pot radical copolymerization of naphthalimide-containing monomer and acrylamide in chitosan-acetic acid solution. Their intense emission comes from synergetic anchoring and diluting effect of the protonated naphthalimide moieties grafted on polymer chains, which result in the electrostatic repulsion among ACQ luminogens and reduced PET (photoinduced electron transfer) effect from adjacent dimethylamine groups to naphthalimide fluorophores. After being deprotonated in alkaline conditions, both PET and the ACQ effect work again to greatly quench fluorescence, endowing the hydrogels with pH-sensitive emission behavior. These properties encourage us to develop a diffusion-reaction (D-R) method to spatially and temporally control their fluorescent behavior. Based on these results, the ion-transfer-printing-assisted D-R method was further developed to fabricate many high-precision and meaningful fluorescent patterns on hydrogels. These fluorescent patterns are invisible under daylight but become vivid under specific UV light illumination, suggesting their wide potential applications in information security and transmission.

Study on the denitrification and dephosphorization of the aqueous solution by Chitosan/4A Zeolite/Zr based Zeolite

ABSTRACT The ternary hybrid material chitosan/4A Zeolite/Zr based Zeolite was synthesized by using 4A zeolite molecular sieve, Zr-zeolite and chitosan acetic acid solution as starting materials. The prepared composite were characterized by SEM, FT-IR and XRD. The experimental conditions such as the concentration of chitosan acetic acid solution, mass ratio of mass ratio of chitosan acetic acid solution, 4A zeolite molecular sieve and Zr-zeolite functional material, the optimum calcination temperature were optimized. Under this optimum conditions, the denitrification and dephosphorization effect can reach more than 70% when pH value was at 3–9. Dynamics research results showed that the ammonia nitrogen and phosphorus removal progress by chitosan/4A Zeolite/Zr based Zeolite was in accordance could be well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the adsorption rate is up to 6.439 g/min. The isothermal adsorption process was in accordance with Freundlich model.

Chitosan-Pectin-Stearic Acid Film for Controlled-Release of Curcumin

The release of curcumin from chitosan-pectin-stearic acid films was studied in the variation of the pH of the buffer solutions, the addition of ethanol in the buffer solution, the amount of loaded curcumin, the amount of stearic acids in the films. The chitosan-pectin films were prepared by addition of 1% acetic acid solution of chitosan into 1% aqueous pectin solution, followed by addition of isopropanol solution of stearic acid. The films were characterized using FT-IR spectrophotometer. The study of curcumin release was performed by soaking the film in buffer-ethanol solutions for 6hand measuring the released curcumin by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The kinetics of releasing curcumin was analyzed using Korsmeyer-Peppas equations. The result showed that the releasing of curcumin was influenced by the amount of loaded curcumin, the amount of stearic acid in the film and buffer pH of the solution. The optimum releasing rate at buffer pH 7 in 40% ethanol solution was obtained when the amount of curcumin loaded and stearic acid were c.a. 55.5 and 136.4 mg/g film, respectively, which the curcumin release achieved 66.04%. Releasing kinetics of the curcumin followed a Korsmeyer-Peppas model with a rate constant (k) of 7.5270 and n of 0.378. The curcumin release mechanism was mainly based on the diffusion mechanism.

Ratiometric fluorescence detection of Cu2+ based on carbon dots/bovine serum albumin-Au nanoclusters.

A ratiometric fluorescence sensor for Cu2+ detection was developed by employing carbon dots (CDs) as the reference fluorophore, and bovine serum albumin (BSA)-Au nanoclusters (AuNCs) both as specific recognition element and as response signal. The CDs were prepared by heating an acetic acid solution of chitosan at 180°C. The proposed nanoprobe was prepared by simply mixing the CDs and BSA-AuNCs. Here, the CDs were associated with BSA-AuNCs to form CDs/BSA-AuNCs nanoprobes based on electrostatic interaction and hydrogen bonds. In the hybrid fluorescent CDs/BSA-AuNCs nanoprobe, the emission of BSA-AuNCs at 640nm was quenched by Cu2+, whereas the emission of CDs at 424nm was maintained. The fluorescence changes of I640/I424 had good linearity with Cu2+ concentration in the range 1.5-600nM, and the detection limit of the nanoprobe was 0.5nM for Cu2+ detection, almost 4×104 times lower than the maximum allowable amount of Cu2+ in drinking water. The proposed method for detecting Cu2+ also had high selectivity and feasibility.

Integrating 3D-printed PHBV/Calcium sulfate hemihydrate scaffold and chitosan hydrogel for enhanced osteogenic property

We developed the 3D-printed poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)/calcium sulfate hemihydrate (PHBV/CaSH) scaffolds by using fused deposition modelling (FDM) technique and then coated the scaffolds with chitosan (CS) acetic acid solution. After drying and neutralization, CS hydrogel was formed on the surface of the scaffolds. The resultant PHBV/CaSH/CS scaffolds could promote the adhesion and proliferation of rat bone marrow stromal cells (rBMSCs) and enhance the osteogenesis of rBMSCs by up-regulating the expression level of osteogenic genes compared to the PHBV and PHBV/CaSH scaffolds. In vivo studies further demonstrated the PHBV/CaSH/CS scaffolds could effectively promote new bone formation. Therefore, integrating 3D-printed PHBV/CaSH scaffold and CS hrydogel represents a novel strategy to promote osteogensis property, showing full potential for bone defects repair.

Ionic Conductivity of Chitosan-based Polymer Electrolyte with Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) as Plasticizer and KCl as Alkaline Ion Transport Source

Polymer electrolyte films were fabricated utilizing chitosan biopolymer plasticized with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and KCl addition as ionic transport source. The precursor solution was prepared by mixing the chitosan in acetic acid solution and PEG that act as a plasticizer. Into the mixed solution was added KCl salt for as alkalin ion transport source in the polymer electrolyte. The polymer electrolyte films were fabricated by the casting method onto the petri glass. The influence of KCl content on ionic conductivity of the composite polymer electrolyte film was studied. The ionic conductivity of the composite polymer electrolyte film was characterized using LCR meter at a frequency of 1 kHz. The best ionic conductivity was found for the film containing 45 wt% of KCl salt. The activation energy was determined by using Arrhenius plot based on conductivity data at varied temperature. It has been found that the activation energy of the composite polymer electrolyte films varied to the KCL content in the composite polymer electrolyte films. The highest activation energy was found for the polymer electrolyte film with 45 wt% of KCl content.

Conversion of amine groups on chitosan-coated SPIONs into carbocyclic acid and investigation of its interaction with BSA in drug delivery systems

Recent studies have indicated that protein adsorption onto NPs affects strongly their functions in biological mediums. In this research, a quantitative modification of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs), which coated with chitosan (Ch-SPIONs), was applied to examine interactions of bovine serum albumin (BSA). SPIONs were at first synthesized via co-precipitation method in alkali medium and under sonication. They were coated with chitosan in acetic acid solution for 12 h and then, an abundance of primary amine was measured by Orange-II and UV-Vis spectroscopy. After that, they reacted with succinic anhydride in different concentrations to obtain NPs with different amounts of carboxylic acid groups. Investigation of NPs interaction with BSA showed that increment of the numbers of carboxylic acid functional groups reduced BSA adsorption on the NPs. In other words, increasing carboxylic acid groups caused to enhance negative zeta potential and therefore, caused to increase the repulsive interaction with BSA.

Synthesis and properties of platinum on multiwall carbon nanotube modified by chitosan

Platinum nanoparticles on multiwall carbon nanotubes (Pt/MWCNT) play an important role in fuel cell to convert the chemical energy from a fuel into electricity. In this study, Pt/MWCNT electrocatalysts were prepared by chemical reduction of the metal salts in chitosan as the support. Firstly, commercial MWCNTs were functionalized by oxidative process using a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid. Then, functionalized MWCNTs were mixed with chitosan-acetic acid solution to conduct grafting reaction with NH2 groups in chitosan by solution polymerization method. Platinum nanoparticles were loaded onto the surface of the MWCNTs after hexachloroplatinic acid was reduced by sodium hydroxide solution. The result showed that Pt was attached on MWCNT based on analysis from EDS, XRD, and UV Vis Spectroscopy. UV Vis analysis indicates the plasmon absorbance band of Pt nanoparticles in Pt/MWCNT, while XRD analysis confirmed the size of Pt particle in nanometer. This elucidates the potential procedure to synthesize Pt/MWCNT using chitosan.
