Improving the Competence of Pasraman Widya Dharma Management Through Website Training

Professional competency improvement for management at Pasraman Widya Dharma in Bandung is very important in this era of globalization. There is a need for partnership with a higher education institution to run an empowerment program in a form of training in using internet website. Website is an easily accessible information media which is suitable to publish information in informal education institutions such as Pasraman. The empowerment is intended to improve the professional competence of staffs and administrators who provide services at institutional facilities within the Bandung Hindu community. The empowerment was implemented using Service Learning method in order to optimize the potential of the community partnership with a focus on training and assistance related to improving the professional competency of the administrators and managers of the Widya Dharma Pasraman Bandung. The professional competency of the managers was observed to be improved significantly based on the result of the training program. This leads to a conclusion that the program is potential to be carried out in continual basis.

On-line solid-phase extraction of pharmaceutical compounds from wastewater treatment plant samples using restricted access media in column-switching liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

An on-line solid phase extraction using a lab-made restricted access media (RAM) was developed as sample preparation procedure for determination of the pharmaceutical compounds caffeine (CAF), carbamazepine (CBZ), norfloxacin (NOR), ciprofloxacin (CIP), fluoxetine (FLX) and venlafaxine in wastewater treatment plant samples by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). This method is suitable for use in routine of analysis, avoiding cross-contamination and requiring only a small sample volume (50 µL), with minimal handling.The method was validated according to international guidelines. The chromatographic efficiency was evaluated using peak resolution and asymmetry parameters. Carryover was also evaluated, in order to ensure reliability of the analysis and the ability to reuse the cartridge. Satisfactory linearity (r2 > 0.99) was obtained for all the compounds. The intra- and inter-day precision values were lower than 5.79 and 14.1%, respectively. The limits of detection ranged from 0.01 to 3 µg L−1 and the limits of quantification were from 0.1 to 5 µg L−1. The method was applied to 20 environmental wastewater samples, with caffeine being the most widely detected compound, at the highest concentration of 392 µg L−1, while other compounds were detected in fewer samples at lower concentrations (up to 9.60 µg L−1). The lab-made modification is a cheaper option for on-line sample preparation, compared to commercially available on-line SPE cartridges and RAM columns. Moreover, a high-throughput procedure was achieved, with an analysis time of 16 min including sample preparation and chromatographic separation. The same RAM column was applied over 200 injections including method optimization, validation and application in wastewater samples without loss of analytical response.

Community Media in a Pandemic: Facilitating Local Communication, Collective Resilience and Transitions to Virtual Public Life in the U.S.

This article examines how US community media organisations anchored to public, educational and government (PEG) cable channels facilitated community resilience during the 2020 pandemic. We find evidence that they served as active “meso-agents” (institutional actors) in local communication networks. Some 230 completed survey responses and 10 open-ended interviews with PEG staffers demonstrated that access media commonly performed essential functions including official and community communication and teacher training in new virtual platforms; providing news, especially coordinating official information; and providing “contactless community,” with virtual versions of ritual occasions. These creative responses also suggest new ways to address “news deserts” in the US, if chronic problems with spotty broadband, underfunding of PEG services and lack of federal incentives can be addressed.

O46 Social Media Use of West Virginia Community Programs Participants to Inform Online Health Educational Programming

<h3>Background</h3> Internet usage has increased dramatically over the past 15 years, with many health and nutrition education programming transitioning online or using social media, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs (SNAP). This creates potential barriers for rural and low-income populations who have limited access to internet coverage when compared to urban areas. Therefore, it is important to understand how low-income, rural SNAP participants use the internet, including social media, to best determine methods in delivering virtual health-education materials. <h3>Objective</h3> The objective of this study was to investigate the social media usage of low-income, rural SNAP participants to determine best methods to deliver health-education materials. <h3>Study Design, Setting, Participants</h3> Participants of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Program in serval counties of West Virginia completed a cross-sectional survey that collected data on their internet access and social media use. <h3>Measurable Outcomes/Analysis</h3> Frequency of responses and contingency analyses were conducted to determine social media use by various subgroups. <h3>Results</h3> Respondents (n = 158) were primarily female (68.1%), aged 25-34 (28.1%), did not receive SNAP, WIC, or TANF benefits (56.4%), and were not pregnant or with children in the home (60.6%). The majority had a smartphone (87.5%), reliable cell service at home (85.5%), reliable internet at home (80.9%), and used their smartphone to access the internet (78.1%). The most commonly used Facebook (82.5%) and YouTube (61.3%), in which participants sought videos for musical or educational purposes. Those who received SNAP benefits used Facebook (<i>P</i> = 0.013) and YouTube (<i>P</i> = 0.044) more often and Twitter (<i>P</i> = 0.0459) less often than those who did not receive SNAP benefits. <h3>Conclusion</h3> The use of social media platforms varied depending on age, gender, SNAP participation and having dependents. These results show the need to gear online health educational programs for SNAP recipients to certain media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube as modes of delivery.

Gamifying Audio Description Training

State-of-the-art training methods for audio description (AD) are essential in preparing future professionals to meet the demand for accessible media content. Gamification, the application of game elements in non-game contexts, has been gaining increasing scholarly attention in the field of teaching and learning over the past few years. It is considered an effective pedagogical approach and has been applied in diverse contexts but not yet in AD training. This paper first provides a brief review of current AD teaching practice before investigating the implementation of gamification strategies in the language industry and in translator and interpreter training. It then introduces a gamified in-class activity based on the framework of Werbach and Hunter (2012). The process of gamification, the design of the activity, and its reception by students are presented and discussed. As it seems to be the first attempt at applying gamification to the teaching of AD, there is plenty of space for improvement and further gamification. Reflection and suggestions on the activity design and gamification as a pedagogical approach are thus provided in the hope of exploring new methods in AD teaching as well as other topics in translator and interpreter training. This phenomenon is an opportunity for YouTube content creators to make self-disclosure or self-use which is often personal. Self-disclosure plays an important role in life and in the daily life of an individual does not escape the activity of self-disclosure. Researchers want to see the extent to which youtube users use social media as a means of self-disclosure. This research was conducted based on previous studies with similar cases.

Will Podcasting and Social Media Replace Journals and Traditional Science Communication? No, but...

The digital world in which we live is changing rapidly. The evolving media environment is having a direct impact on traditional forms of communication and knowledge translation in public health and epidemiology. Openly accessible digital media can be used to reach a broader and more diverse audience of trainees, scientists, and the lay public than can traditional forms of scientific communication. The new digital landscape for delivering content is vast, and new platforms are continuously being added. In this article, we focus on several, including Twitter and podcasting, and discuss their relevance to epidemiology and science communication. We highlight 3 key reasons why we think epidemiologists should be engaging with these mediums: 1) science communication, 2) career advancement, and 3) development of a community and public service. Other positive and negative consequences of engaging in these forms of new media are also discussed. The authors of this commentary are all engaged in social media and podcasting for scientific communication, and we reflect on our experiences with these mediums as tools to advance the field of epidemiology.

Suggesting text alternatives for images in social media

Image description has been a recurrent topic on web accessibility over the years. With the increased use of social networks, this discussion is even more relevant. Social networks are responsible for a considerable part of the images available on the web. In this context, users are not only consuming visual content but also creating it. Due to this shared responsibility of providing accessible content, major platforms must go beyond accessible interfaces. Additional resources must also be available to support users in creating accessible content. Although many of today's services already support accessible media content authoring, current efforts still fail to properly integrate and guide their users through the authoring process. One of the consequences is that many users are still unaware of what an image description is, how to provide it, and why it is necessary. We present SONAAR, a project that aims to improve the accessibility of user-generated content on social networks. Our approach is to support the authoring and consumption of accessible social media content. Our prototypes currently focus on Twitter and Facebook and are available as an Android application and as a Chrome extension.

An adaptive backoff and dynamic clear channel assessment mechanisms in IEEE 802.15.4 MAC for wireless body area networks

The low power connectivity and short distance communication qualities of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard suits its application in wireless body (personal) area networks (WBAN). IEEE 802.15.4 protocol use carrier sense multiple access and collision avoidance (CSMA-CA) medium access control (MAC) mechanism for aperiodic data communication; however, it faces performance degradation with a gradual increase in the number of network devices. Performance challenges arise due to; several heterogeneous and dynamic packet sources sharing limited resources during contention in a finite backoff period, association delay, and traffic channel access through clear channel assessment (CCA) algorithms. Due to such constraints, channel conditions increase packet collision and queuing delay, which raises power demand and impedes performance indicators, such as throughput, packet delivery ratio (PDR), and end to end (E2E) delay. This article proposes an alternative combination of the backoff and CCA adaptation mechanisms to improve WBAN performance characteristics in a highly dynamic environment considering network residue energy, PDR, throughput, and E2E delay. We use the Markov model to demonstrate a theoretical analysis of the proposed CSMA-CA MAC mechanism. A comparative study shows the proposed methods outperform conventional protocol in PDR, throughput, and reduced E2E delay by 13.1%, 21.44%, and 41.13%, respectively, where energy efficiency drops by 0.43%.

The role of pKa, log P of analytes, and protein matrix in solid-phase extraction using native and coated nanofibrous and microfibrous polymers prepared via meltblowing and combined meltblowing/electrospinning technologies

Effect of physicochemical properties including dissociation constant (pKa) and partition coefficient (log P) of the compounds on their extraction efficiency in sample preparation using fibrous polymer sorbents has been demonstrated. Poly-ε-caprolactone as meltblown/electrospun composite fibers, and polypropylene, polyethylene, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate), poly(lactic acid), and polyamide 6 in the meltblown fiber format were used as sorbents in solid-phase extraction. In addition, the polycaprolactone fibers were coated with dopamine, dopamine combined with heparin, and tannin, respectively, to modify their extraction properties. These fibers that were not yet used for extractions and the unique combination of sorbents and analytes significantly extends the scope of nanofibrous extraction. The extraction efficiency was determined using model pharmaceuticals including acetylsalicylic acid, moxonidine, metoprolol, propranolol, propafenone, diltiazem, atorvastatin, and amiodarone. These model compounds displayed the widest differences in both pKa and log P values. The extraction efficiency of some of the fibers reached 96.64%. Coating of polycaprolactone fibers with dopamine significantly improved extraction efficiency of slightly retained metoprolol while moxonidine was not retained on any sorbent. The fibrous sorbents were also tested for extraction of pharmaceuticals in bovine serum albumin and human serum, respectively, to demonstrate their capability to extract them from a complex protein-containing matrix. The clean-up efficiency of our fibers was compared with that of a commercial restricted access media (RAM) C-18 alkyl-diol silica column. Our technique is in accordance with the requirements of modern sample preparation techniques.

Chatbot Based Applications on Smart Home Use Natural Language Processing

Smart Home technology development is directly proportional to the emergence of various applications as access media. Currently, many Smart Home applications do not use the concept of human-machine interaction (HMI). The problem that often arises in the interaction between humans and machines is that humans must understand what the machine wants to have wrong perceptions about the system. In this study, the solution is proposed with the HMI concept, which uses natural language interaction through the chatbot application as an interactive medium to control and monitor Smart Home devices. In this study, the chatbot application implements the Natural Language Processing (NLP) text recognition process. User acceptance of the system is carried out using the evaluation stage. Thirty users participated in an in-depth usage study in which they tackled using the system. This research aims to create an application that can make it easier for users to control various devices on a Smart Home through natural language interaction and to analyze the performance of the NLP method. The results showed that most users (90%) believed that the application can help users control and monitor Smart Home devices. The NLP application on the chatbot application provides a success rate of 93.3% where the results obtained from the chatbot response depend on the completeness of the token.

Customer Relationship Management Menggunakan Metode Prototyping Untuk Produk Pembiayaan BPRS Al-Salam

BPRS Al Salam is a Sharia Micro Finance Institution (LKMS) that already has many customers, especially in financing products. However, in the manual funding application, the customer must come to BPRS Al Salaam, this is very troublesome for customers who want to apply for financing. Financing type marketing media still uses brochures, there is no easily accessible media to find out information on customer financing data such as financing status, payment maturity from financing transactions and the absence of a special forum for communication between BPRS and customers. To improve service to customers of BPRS is the application of the concept of customer relationship management (CRM). The purpose of this study is to design a CRM for financing products in order to improve service to customers. The system development method uses the Prototyping method. Tools in designing systems using UML include usecase diagrams, narrative usecase, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, and class diagrams. Whereas system programming uses PHP and MySQL database, system testing with user acceptance test (UAT) methods. The results of this study resulted in a CRMS (customer relationship management system) developed with the Kalakota and Robinson approach that would produce a system that was in accordance with the needs of the organization and concluded that 80% of users agreed that the BPRS interface and application features were made in accordance with desires.

Pembuatan dan Pengelolaan Website di MA Mathlabul Huda

MA Mathlabul Huda is one of the madrasas that still uses manual methods in disseminating information to the wider community. The school must inform this by distributing posters / banners in several areas close to the madrasah so that it requires fast, precise and accessible information media for the wider community. The purpose of this service is to create a website to help solve problems that exist in MA Mathlabul Huda. The method used in this case is the SDLC method by analyzing the data obtained from the madrasah. The design used to create a madrasah website uses the PHP programming language and the Codeigniter framework. The result of this dedication is a madrasah website that can be accessed by the wider community.

Class conditioning and class positioning in young people's everyday life with digital media: Exploring new forms of class-making in the Swedish media welfare state

Abstract In this article, I explore how social class shapes the conditions and configurations of digital media practice in the everyday life of young people in Sweden. Drawing on Bourdieusian theory and qualitative interview data from two research projects, I complicate the notion of Sweden as a universally wired media welfare state by showing how economic and cultural forces are structuring Internet access and digital media practice along the lines of preexisting social divisions. Invoking Bourdieu's conceptualisation of social classes as defined both intrinsically and relationally, I identify and exemplify two different but interrelated processes whereby class makes a difference in young people's everyday relationship to digital media: class conditioning and class positioning. I conclude the article by arguing that distinguishing between these processes might offer a better understanding of the relationship between class and everyday media practice. The complexities of advancing a welfare-oriented media policy in the age of digital media are also discussed.

Kuchu Counterpublic on Facebook: Gay Men’s Challenge to Heterosexist Policies in Uganda

SummaryHow do queer counterpublics online function as spaces where stigmatized individuals can gather to advocate for their interests and share their needs? Based on an online ethnography of gay cisgender men in Uganda, I offer three main conclusions. First, the popular and widely accessible social medium Facebook allows space for a visible queer opposition to the anti‐LGBTQ movement and for the realities of the Ugandan LGBTQ community—locally known as kuchu—to emerge through individuals’ sexual self‐expression and self‐knowledge. Second, to avoid identification, arrests, and punishments through state surveillance, kuchus use Facebook to create a list of safe virtual friends. Finally, the rise of a virtual queer counterpublic and its global discourse has deepened transnational stereotypes and encouraged vigorous attacks by the Ugandan government, including indiscriminate arrests. Despite these risks and challenges, kuchus’ use of Facebook demonstrates its value for creating a counterpublic.

Broadband Access during Crisis: Examining Bad Data in the Digital Divide

In February 2020, the United States began facing a disaster the likes of which it had never experienced. People were asked to shelter-in-place in their homes and rely on their network connection in order to go to school, continue working, participate in commerce, socialize with those outside their homes, and access media for news and entertainment. Broadband connections became people’s lifeline. Questions surrounding the digital divide and digital equity came to the forefront of public discourse. When broadband access stopped being arguably necessary and became truly necessary, a bright light suddenly exposed the way that broadband was deployed, the relationship between the regulatory agency and the organizations it oversees, and the limited aid that was available to those in need of access.This paper attempts to address a swiftly moving target, examining how the digital divide is being measured, the failure of the regulatory institution’s efforts to close the divide, the consequences resulting from a lack of access in during the crisis, subsidies available to aid those in need, and actions explored or taken to address digital equity across under or unserved communities to close the digital divide.

Role of an e-Health Intervention in Holistic Healthcare: A Quasiexperiment in Patients Undergoing Cardiac Catheterization in Taiwan.

Background The use of electronic health (e-health) resources is emerging as an alternative method to improve the secondary prevention of coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of this study was to describe the influence of an e-health application in holistic healthcare for patients with CAD. Methods A quasiexperiment with nonequivalent groups design recruited outpatients with a high risk of CAD admitted for cardiac catheterization. They were divided into two groups. Before the procedure, the control group received traditional patient education, and the intervention group watched videos on Internet-based social media. EQ-5D and FACIT–Sp-12 questionnaires were used as outcome measures of interest, and they were administered before and after the procedure and at the first return visit to the outpatient clinic after discharge. The effect of each intervention was tested using a linear mixed effects model. In addition, the 90-day readmission rate was also studied. Results A total of 300 patients were divided into intervention and control groups (150 patients in each group). The interaction effect of EQ-5D was not statistically significant; however, improvements in FACIT–Sp-12 were greater in the intervention group from baseline to before discharge (regression coefficient (B) = 1.70, p < 0.001) and from baseline to postdischarge first outpatient visit (B = 1.81, p < 0.001). Moreover, the 90-day readmission rate was significantly lower in the intervention group (14% vs. 18.7%; p=0.016, log-rank test). Conclusions e-health intervention with easily accessible Internet-based social media is a promising model to meet the holistic needs of patients with CAD in the modern era.

Infant and young child feeding practices in Ethiopia: analysis of socioeconomic disparities based on nationally representative data

BackgroundUndernutrition among children is a priority area of public health concern in Ethiopia. The purpose of this study was to examine disparities in Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices among children 6–23 months.MethodData were drawn from the 2016 Ethiopian Demographic and Health Surveys (EDHS). A total of 3240 children aged 6–23 months were used for the present analysis. The outcome variable was IYCF practice score (ranging 0–7) which was constructed based on the linear and combined effects of four sets of variables: breastfeeding, avoidance of bottle feeding, diet diversity score and minimum feeding frequency. IYCF practice score was further recoded into three categories. Proportional odds regression was used to assess the determinants of IYCF category.ResultsThe proportional odds regression analysis showed that IYCF scores significantly decreased by 5% (Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) = 0.95; 95% CI: 0.93–0.97) for every unit increase in the child’s age. Households with fathers of primary and secondary and above level education were 1.37 times (95% CI: 1.14–1.66) and 1.67 times (95% CI: 1.26–2.23) more likely to be in the high IYCF category than in the poor IYCF category. The likelihood of being in the high IYCF practice category decreased for non-working mothers by 30% (AOR = 0.70; 95% CI: 0.59–0.83) compared to those working in gainful employment. The chance of being in the high IYCF practice category decreased by 29% for households with no access to radio (AOR = 0.71; 95% CI: 0.59–0.85). Those with medium and rich/richer wealth category were 1.54 times (95% CI: 1.22–1.94) and 1.40 times (95% CI: 1.11–1.75) more likely to belong to high IYCF practice category than being in poor IYCF category. For every unit increase in health service utilization, the chance of falling in higher IYCF category increases by 1.15 times (95% CI: 1.08–1.23). The chance of falling in higher IYCF practice category decreases for rural residents by 37% (AOR = 0.63; 95% CI: 0.47–0.84) compared to those residing in urban areas.ConclusionFor a child, the first two years is the time span during which linear faltering of growth is most prevalent and the period when the process of becoming stunted is almost complete. This study recommends improving access to women for gainful employment, provision of economic support to poor rural women, education and promotion of nutrition messages using most accessible media and boosting the positive role of fathers in child feeding practices.

A Survey on Prevention Techniques for Camcorder Video Piracy in Movie Theaters

Movies, advertisements, and promotional videos are Intellectual Property (IP) and are often shared on open access medium as part of the business. Fueled by the advancements in technology, piracy has become more rampant and a widely spread crime in many countries. Movie piracy is more dangerous to mega-budget producers who struggle to receive the maximum profit of their films, making them compete with smaller films, results in the cheapest alternatives, jeopardizing the production of more films, artistic pool, shooting sites, camera equipment, special effects, quality and much more. Apart from the big shrinking of the job market for film jobs, sponsorship, unions, and merchandising get affected greatly. Many advanced technologies, apart from watermarking, such as Infrared based techniques, are used to estimate the position of the pirate and reduce piracy. This paper reviews the enabling technologies in the fight against video piracy, focusing mainly on methods for stopping these emerging methods of piracy in theatres.

Using Interactive Fiction to Teach Clinical Decision-Making in a PharmD Curriculum.

Teaching of clinical decision-making is an important component of health professions education. Patient case examples are widely used in didactic coursework to teach this material, but engaging all learners in large, lecture-based courses remains a challenge. Interactive fiction (IF), a digital choose-your-own-adventure media, provides an accessible way for students to individually explore the narrative of a patient-case in a safe environment. Here, we report the development of interactive, digital patient-cases (eCases) using Twine, a free IF development platform. Fourteen eCases were developed in collaboration with 11 faculty members and were used in seven different PharmD courses over three semesters. eCase content was developed by faculty members for their respective instructional topics and accessed via Web browsers on students’ personal electronic devices. eCases were received positively by students, with > 90% of students reporting that eCases were easy to use, helped them learn the material at their own pace, and gave them an opportunity to learn from mistakes. Student self-perceived confidence also increased significantly after eCase use. Faculty reported that eCases took more time to develop than conventional cases, but were easier to deliver and provided better student engagement. IF is an accessible media for creating and delivering low-fidelity interactive patient cases that can engage all students in a large class. eCases allow students to apply their knowledge, practice clinical decision-making, and safely learn from their mistakes. eCases are versatile and well suited for both in-person and virtual teaching across a variety of health professions programs to teach clinical decision-making.Supplementary InformationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s40670-021-01245-7.
