KBR holds more than 8 million items including ancient and modern books, prints, manuscripts, newspapers, maps, music records, medals and coins. A fragile heritage that connects us to the past, present and future. Preservation and responsible use of these heritage collections is a never ending engagement to the threats facing them. By starting ReMap, a joint program of the Maps department and the Restoration workshop, we wanted to evaluate and improve the conditions of conservation of the Map department, using methods coming from the risk management. In doing so, we have visualized numerous potential risks that occur in many forms, ranging from the rare and catastrophic to daily and easily observable threats. Through this publication we seek to support collection managers, curators and conservators in their search for answers to questions that every collection manager faces regularly to reduce loss of value.
