Abstract

This study started with the aim of understanding Energy(氣) in taekwondo training based on the Sky Theory(渾天說) by an Eastern philosopher from Song Dynasty(宋代) named Zhang-Zai (張載). His book, “Correcting Youthful Ignorant(正蒙),” was reviewed in order to interpret the meaning of taekwondo, as Eastern martial arts, based on his philosophy. It is concluded as follows: The Sky Theory(渾天說) results that the interplay between two Energy(氣) forces (yin and yang) affect the “great harmony” and “major actions” in all things in nature. Two theories proved that the world is created from the effect of the relationship between the energy and forces. According to the Sky Theory(渾天說) by Zhang-Zai(張載), the “great harmony between yin and yang,” expresses matters with the mechanism in which superfluous forms are generated in the Great Void(太虛) full of Energy. The Energy(氣) Flow in Taekwondo Training through Zhang-Zai(張載)’s Sky Theory(渾天說) shows the desire of the unification on all creations and mankind’s homing instinct to the beginning. It appears through Taekwondo Training, the state of energy shall maintain similar to when the existence of indistinguishable enery or force from the beginning of things.
