Abstract

The goal of the paper is to present issues concerning adjusting employees to the workplace and the employing organization within the library field. An overview of subject literature on adjusting employees and organizations has been carried out for the purpose of developing the paper, and survey research among university librarians in Poland has been conducted. The research indicated a good level of the employees' adjustment to the employing libraries. At the same time it has revealed problematic fields, which consist primarily in unfairness of remuneration and an insufficient impact the employees have on the development of the libraries. In conclusion, people who are dissatisfied and stressed out have lower work quality and more often take advantage of medical leaves. Therefore, unsatisfactory adjustment of employees to a company results in negative financial and organizational outcomes. Thus, such research would be useful in libraries because it broadens the knowledge concerning employees and offers new ideas on how to resolve conflicts successfully.
