Abstract
The pages that Miguel Cardina devotes to his book O Atrito da Memória (The Friction of Memory), published in 2023 by Tinta-da-china, seem scant. The book is subtitled Colonialismo, Guerra e Descolonização no Portugal Contemporâneo (Colonialism, War and Decolonization in Contemporary Portugal) and sets out to analyze the characteristics of the construction of the country’s collective memory regarding the colonial experience, at a time when we are approaching, at high speed, the 50th anniversary of 25 April 1974 and the formal decolonization of the former Portuguese colonies.
