Abstract

Greening and hybrid propulsion are being more and more common on the market. Apparently, looking to propulsion machinery arrangement and recognizing electric motor and batteries reflects a green propulsion system for the first while. However, being green it doesn’t mean only the electric motor and batteries. The greening is mainly about energy utilization and optimization in sequence layers. This means greening concept as a start layer(s) has a direct connection to what is power configuration on board and what propulsion system available and how to utilize the available power to the specified propulsion. As a next layer(s), the optimization can be enhanced by utilizing digitalization possibilities to adopt system dynamically for the most optimum hybrid condition. The paper is going through this process where explaining optimization differences between different propulsion systems for being more and more green.
