The acquisition of this treatise (with three other MSS) in a Codex forming one of those which had come from the Gnostic library at Chenoboskion was announced by Quispel 4 in 1953, and he identifies it with the Veritatis Evangelium mentioned by Irenaeus. It has been known as the 'Gospel of Truth' since them. This identification would immediately suggest itself to anyone from the first page. Here we have several Valentinian terms 5 and the opening words 'The Gospel of Truth ...' would remind the reader of the passage in Irenaeus.
