Abstract

Organizations increasingly rely on teams as the complexity of business problems and tasks increases and team coaching is a solution that is accessed more frequently every year as a result. Team coaching methodologies and practices differ greatly among coaches and between studies, so it is difficult to compare outcomes between studies. Effectiveness is the extent that team coaching produces beneficial results in everyday circumstances. Many team coaches have published their unique approaches to group and team coaching and they provide coaches and leaders with a practical guide for the team coach role, along with potential processes and activities for working with groups and/or teams. The chapter describes the outcomes of the studies according to the three measures that are important in assessing team effectiveness: improvements in results or outputs, such as customer satisfaction, financial results, or safety; improvements in team processes; and improvements in individual learning.
