Abstract

The wettability of Ti-Al alloys on TiN substrate at 1758K was studied by sessile drop method in Ar atmosphere. The wettability of TiN substrate by molten Ti–Al alloy drops is dependent on alloy composition. With increasing Al content in liquid alloy, the initial contact angle increase from 68°to 140°. The initial contact angle is affected not only by the surface tension, but also by the oxidization of Al on the liquid surface. The final equilibrium angle is less than 20°. The solid-liquid interface after wetting was enriched in high Ti and low Al, no reaction compound is formed. The adsorption of Ti on the interface between Ti-Al alloy and TiN substrate promote the wettability.
