Abstract

Cracking and microstructural segregation of alloying elements have made welding nickel-based super alloys as well as turbine blades, waste incinerator boilers, seals, turbocharger rotors, high-temperature fasteners, a challenging one. These super alloys find their use in extreme environments, and also in high-performance fasteners. A number of industry aspects are included in its major application. In this paper, an examination of the existing research on nickel-based super alloys welded by various methods is done. A review of the weld ability, microstructure, and mechanical properties during and after the welding process, is done. Nickel-based super alloys are the focus of this paper wherein many challenges are identified which are to be addressed and solved, through an operational system that is developed within an acceptable timeframe.
