Abstract

In this paper we propose a power and area efficient VLSI implementation of Wave Digital Filters (WDFs) based on a digit serial approach. Employing a new digit serial 3-port adaptor, the filter requires 70% less area and is shown to consume 30% less power than the parallel design equivalent. The overall area-time-power performance is also shown to improve by a third, better than that achieved by the alternative block serial architecture. The speed penalty factor is 2.95.
