Abstract

Poly(hydroxymethylene) and poly(hydroxymethylene-co-fluoroolefin) membranes were prepared utilizing highly purified vinylenecarbonate monomer. Molecular structure of these polymers was studied by NMR spectroscopy. Permeation characteristics of these membranes toward water/ethanol mixtures were investigated by pervaporation. The permeation rate of the polymer membrane (thickness:30–60μm) was in the range of Q=0.001–0.3 kg· −2·h −1, and it gave a separation factor greater than 1000.
