Abstract

This paper presents assessment of voltage stability of power systems with real and reactive power penetration from solar PV generation system. The impact on voltage stability in power systems has been investigated with solar PV generator integration at weak load buses. Continuation load flow analysis has been used to obtain critical loading limit, which is used as a parameter for assessment of voltage stability of the system. The analysis has been carried out for identification of weak load buses that may be suitable for solar PV placement. Effect of increasing penetration with real and reactive power injection through solar PV generator have been studied. IEEE 25 bus test system was used for simulation study. MATLAB based power system analysis toolbox (PSAT) has been used for voltage stability analysis. It has been shown that the critical loadability limit of the system is increased significantly when the solar PV generator is placed at suitable location with adequate real and/or reactive power penetration capability.
