Abstract
According to educational researchers, effective learning is not only just sitting in classes spectating other activities, and memorizing available imparted knowledge, but learners also should participate in the discovery process of new knowledge guided by instructors. It is necessary to apply the discovery learning method to teaching the subjects in general and teaching Mathematics in particular in the direction of developing the competencies and qualities for students. This paper focuses on researching the concept of the discovery learning method and its characteristics. Based on researching the Mathematics curriculum and practical teaching in The Lao People's Democratic Republic, this paper proposes applying the discovery learning method to teaching trigonometric equations at high schools in the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
