Abstract

The incidence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) appears to have increased in recent years because high-risk infants who might have died some years ago continue to survive as a result of improved neonatal care (1). One of the most important factors for development of ROP is the alteration of intrauterine developmental events leading to prematurity (2) that cannot be controlled once a child is born.
