Abstract

The stopping power for diatomic molecular ions is investigated within the framework of the linear-response dielectric theory and the effective charge model of Brandt and Kitagawa for atomic ions is extended to molecular ions. In the limits of low and high velocity, some analytical formulae are obtained. The vicinage effects in the stopping power are discussed and a comparison with the experimental data is made.
