Abstract
The article deals with the study of verbal and non-verbal communication based on works by Allan Pease. The final aim of the work is to define types and interaction between verbal and non-verbal means of communication in “Body Language” and “Signals” by A. Pease, namely, distance between the speakers, their spacing (proxemics) as well as ways of touching (haptics). The polycode character of the given texts determines abundance of pictographic means – figures, schemes and tables. They only visualize the verbal information concerning description of a certain gesture or posture, the rest of the information – aim of the gesture, its function, examples of its usage in real life and practical advice – is presented with the help of verbal means of communication.
