Abstract

The current Scenario of industrialization leads to the generation of the huge amount of industrial solid waste and the major problem faced by the current industries is the damping of such solid waste, which leads to the clean environmental issue. The aim of this paper is the utilization of industrial solid waste such as Granular blast furnace slag, Red mud and Ferro-Chrome slag in the foundry industries as a mold material. Silica sand is one of the major sources as a mold material in the foundry industries. The mold prepared with a combination of silica sand and solid waste (blast furnace slag, red mud, and ferro-chrome) separately. Physical and chemical characterization of solid waste has done through X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and also mold properties such as hardness, compressive strength, shear strength and permeability were investigated. It was observed that mold having a combination of silica sand and different solid waste shows significant mold properties to replace silica sand in the foundry industry.
