Abstract

The lack of environmental awareness on the part of certain people and organizations in recent years has led us to think about the optimization of resources and the use of wastes that leave practices such as mining, since although mining can become one of the most affecting the ecosystem is a practice that is necessary since it provides us with the energy resources demanded by today’s society. The objective of this investigation is to show the possible capacities that could have the remainders that leave the exploitation of coal mines, this with the purpose of reducing the pressure exerted to the environment. In the specific case of this research, we want to use this waste for the production of asphalt and use it in certain areas of Colombia with difficult access due to the complexity of the land and construction costs. The studies carried out in a thermal power plant located in New Delhi, India, were analyzed. This plant produces some carbon wastes which are stored without any use and turning them into an environmental risk for the area. Among the tests carried out, flexible pavement layers were created giving favorable results under certain conditions.
