Abstract

The development of technology and social relations has changed the nature of police work over time. Although its basic mission, to maintain order and to ensure the security of individuals and groups, has remained the same, the emergence of digital environment has initiated new additional requirements for the police today. The need for implementation of digital innovation in police work is related to the changing behavior of modern man, strongly dependent on the technology. In this new, digital age, information is becoming the most important factor of success for organizations in different industries, whether they are in private or public sector. Therefore, the digitalization of police work aims to provide public services that are more proactive, predictive and more correlated with the citizens' needs. The paper explores the impact of digital technology on the nature of police work and indicates the most significant effects of its implementation. The aim of the study is to emphasize the main questions raised during the digitalization in police sector as well as to analyze the new opportunities brought by the limitless access to information. The paper also presents an empirical study of SAP software application in the human resource management sector of the Serbian Ministry of Interior. The survey, which included 164 respondents, showed that the implementation of this technological innovation provided new opportunities for managing human resources in the police, contributing to increased job efficiency.
