Abstract

The author analyzes the socioeconomic and political consequences of urbanization in Africa. Similarities between selected African states and the homelands are investigated with respect to rate of urbanization, adequacy of housing and services, and unbalanced growth. The suitability of Western models and standards for application to Africa's urban development is examined
