Abstract

This article investigates the contemporary challenges faced by urban Sufism in the millennial era, focusing on the Copler Community’s role in Surabaya. Urban Sufism encompasses the adaptation of mystical Islamic teachings to suit the dynamics and complexities of urban life. The study aims to grasp the intricacies surrounding urban Sufism today and shed light on the Copler Community’s significance in Surabaya. Employing a qualitative research approach, particularly within a phenomenological framework, this research seeks to explore the development of human consciousness and self-awareness. Qualitative methodology was chosen to uncover the underlying meanings guiding behaviours. The selection of participants followed a purposive technique, involving six individuals meeting specific criteria. Through data analysis, prevalent negative attitudes within the community emerged, emphasizing the necessity for further examination and potential interventions.
